Zao is Bian's son and Toatie's grandson. He has beige fur, blonde hair and green eyes. He fights using two mechanical retractable swords attached to his arms.
Zao was born in the valley of peace to Bian Zao and his girlfriend. After his mother left them, Zao was raised by his father and grandfather. After the two were arrested for larceny to help pay for supplies for Zao, the latter was put into the prison's nursery. Zao was depressed because he believed he was the reason his father and grandfather were arrested. He was comforted by his new friends in the nursery. Zao helped his friends in escaping the prison and grew to learn mechanics and used this knowledge to impress his friends and villagers. He sometimes sold his inventions to make a profit. This wasn't for him or his friends, it was to buy his family out of prison. Later, he is accepted as a member of The Dragon Knights.
Zao is very friendly, good-natured, and helpful. He is highly intelligent and can easily solve problems or puzzles involving math.
Zao was much beloved by his father and grandfather, enough to steal for him.
Zao shares a close friendship with Arvon.
