Quite the info dump last chapter huh? Hope you guys enjoyed it. We're slowly getting to a chapter I've been waiting to write. It's gonna be similarly written like the chapter "Remembering Yesterday" and I plan to fill it with a lot of good character moments. Just that writers block was hitting me heavy and I didn't want to deliver what I believed would have been a subpar chapter. So for now let's dive back into the wonderful world of kaiju shall we?
I do not own any of these characters in this fanfiction. All monsters are property of Toho and all Kim Possible characters are property of Disney. I do however own Destiny Go and Tiara Josephine Lockheart. Jacob Matthews belongs to Raptorhunter18.
Ch. 19 Making Due
August 8, 2017 7:30 a.m. Middleton, Colorado
Olive eyes opened slowly, immediately wincing from the light that had caused them to open. The light came from the window of the room illuminating the pink walls of the room. A form sat up revealing red hair that went down just past the shoulders. The hair fell forward covering the face of the woman as she sat up. Brushing her hair back she stretched with a yawn as she pushed back her stuffed animal and removed her covers.
She swung her legs over the edge as she prepared to get up and she ran her hand over her stomach feeling the scar of the injury. Though her injury had healed she felt as if she could still feel the energy from the attack. A possible side effect she was told about by the doctors. While they were sure no harm would come from it thanks to Destiny siphoning out the radioactive energy they still wanted to monitor her progress.
Kim sighed as she thought about her time at the self defense force. She was making such good progress and it one fell swoop it had all been taken from her. Ron and her friends called her often and tried their hardest to make it seem like she wasn't missing much, but she was missing her chance to make what she believed to be the greatest change in human history. The good she could achieve, the lives she could have saved. Her fists clenched the bed sheets as she tensed up but she calmed herself down, took a deep breath and exhaled. She heard a knock at her door causing her to look up.
"Kim honey, are you awake?" The voice of her mother said from the other side of the door.
"Mmhmm." Was the reply the redhead gave her mother.
For Anne that was better than when she came home over a week ago. She wouldn't even speak to her and started giving her audible responses two days ago. "I started breakfast early so it should be done soon." Anne told her daughter. She received an audible grunt through the closed door which let Anne know her daughter would probably be down for breakfast and with that Anne returned back to the kitchen after notifying her sons, Jim and Tim.
While Kim was still angry with her mother she knew it wasn't her mother's sole decision. Her father was the one calling the shots on this one. Her mother just so happened to be backing him on it even though she was the one that had convinced her father to let her enlist in the force. Kim looked at her phone to see she had several missed calls from her dad. She hadn't spoken a word to him since they came back to Middleton. He left back to the force the past Monday leaving her here with her mother and brothers. Maybe she should have stayed is what she began thinking.
However she remembered how Bonnie was there. Bonnie said nothing to her. Shego was there and she expressed how she wanted her to stay but Bonnie said nothing, just watched from wherever she stood since the redhead had her back to the brunette. Why did it matter if Bonnie said anything after all it was Kim's choice in the end. Kim then remembered what almost transpired between them. Kim could still feel the warmth of Bonnie's breath as they almost kissed. A kiss the brunette initiated. After all Kim wasn't anticipating anything to happen between them. It was Bonnie who came there dressed up showing off her figure and it was Bonnie who leaned in an attempt to kiss her. Yet she said nothing, she didn't tell Kim she could stay. Kim then remembered what happened after Bonnie hit her.
It was just a game to her! Kim's mind screamed as she grew upset. She fell for it again as the thought was going through her mind now and she suddenly grabbed a pillow and launched it. The pillow collided with the lamp sending it crashing to the floor loudly as it broke apart. Kim was panting heavily as a tear slid down her cheek. Anne came running to the room to see her daughter wasn't harmed and breathed a sigh of relief.
20 minutes later
Anne and Kim stood in the kitchen as Kim grabbed the plates and sat them on the table.
"Hey Tweebs! Breakfast is ready!" She called out to her brothers.
Anne watched as Kim took a seat facing the glass sliding doors that led to their backyard. She watched as her daughter gazed at the yard with a melancholy look on her face. "Do you want to talk about what that was upstairs?" Anne asked.
"Had a nightmare." Kim replied with a shrug of her shoulders
"That caused you to throw a pillow and break a lamp?" Anne said as she brought a pan of eggs over and began to serve helpings to her children.
"It had a not so friendly face." Kim said as she began to think about Bonnie. Her brows furrowed a bit as she thought about how stupid she had allowed herself to be.
"Was it highschool related?" Anne asked cautiously, not wanting to bring up the worst moment in not just her daughter's life but hers as well.
Kim shook her head lightly and Anne breathed a sigh of relief. She never expected her daughter to fully get over what happened but she was proud of how far Kim had come since then and she didn't want her to start sliding backwards.
"Was it." Anne started as she watched her daughter. She had just finished placing the bacon on their plates. "Military related?"
Kim said nothing but Anne noticed a slight motion. She wasn't sure what to call it a twitch maybe but it let her know that was indeed the source. Anne took a guess since there had only been a few things there that bothered Kim.
"Bonnie related?" Anne guessed and again her daughter made an odd movement like she was trying not to react but her body was fighting her on it. Anne noticed that Kim had her hands clenched, Anne figured she had guessed correctly once more. "Want to get something off your chest?"
Kim just exhaled and looked at her mother to see that she was offering Kim a reassuring smile. She opened her mouth to say something but her brothers came running downstairs, loudly interrupting them.
"Too slow Tim!" One twin said as he jumped into his seat and began digging into breakfast. He was wearing a green jacket with a white undershirt and brown khaki pants. His hair was brown and he had blue eyes.
"No fair you cheated, again!" The other twin pointed out. He was wearing a red shirt with brown khaki pants and like his twin brother sported brown hair with bright blue eyes.
"Jim, Tim." Anne called out to her youngest children. "Settle down and eat your breakfast so you're not late for school."
"Yes ma'am." The boys said as they ate their breakfast.
Kim began to eat her food, her thoughts drifting back towards the force, a future that was no longer hers. Anne took notice when she saw that Kim was playing with the food more than she was eating.
"Kim, do you have any plans for today?" She asked her daughter. "You can't just sit around the house sulking all day."
Kim shrugged. "Why not, it's been working well so far." She responded without looking up from her plate.
"Well I figured you could see what's out there, here in Middleton." Anne suggested. "You could always apply at the animal clinic. I remember you wanting to be a veterinarian."
"I was seven when I said that." Kim answered. "Besides that's not what I majored in for college. I don't have a degree in animal welfare."
"Well you can come with me then. I'm not going into work today so I thought I'd get some grocery shopping done. You need to get out of the house." Anne told her, but Kim offered no reply.
Once breakfast was done, Anne loaded up the dishes used to make the food and placed them in the dishwasher. They all got dressed and left to drop Tim and Jim off at school before heading to the grocery store. Kim was silent as she gazed at the school, not noticing her twin brothers waving goodbye to her. Her thoughts went back to the misery she went through during her time at the school. It's why after graduation she often stayed away from Middleton High, as she could still hear the ridicule. A good number of the students that had once spat venom at her had approached her and reconciled with her, showing that they had matured and had been wrong to judge Kim on what was just a rumor.
However there were others that still believed Kim to be a fast good for nothing and had made sure to let her know they still felt that way. It was the main reason for her deleting her social media and creating a new email account. It was the only way she could keep their voices out of her head. However when she gazed at the school the voices came flooding back. Like demons that hovered just within earshot. Anne pulled off as soon as there was room to do so as a school bus had just finished unloading students and she made her way to the grocery store.
Anne pulled into the parking lot and the two women exited the vehicle and made their way inside. Anne didn't have much to get just some ingredients for dinner tonight. Kim figured she could help speed up the process and she went to get some of the seasonings needed for dinner. She rounded the corner down the aisle as she began gathering the seasonings like Garlic powder and Paprika. Kim was reaching for another seasoning on the shelf when she heard someone say her name.
"Kim Possible?" The voice asked. The voice was feminine and when Kim looked over in the direction it came from she saw the source of the voice.
The person before her had ebony skin and beautiful brown eyes. Her dark brown hair was tied into a ponytail. She was dressed in a light blue shirt with the number three on it. She wore a darker blue skirt, with violet earrings with blue and white shoes. Her figure was curvaceous and she placed her hands on her hips as she looked at the red head a devious smile forming on the ebony woman's face.
"Monique." Kim said, acknowledging the other woman's presence.
Monique used to be one of Kim's best female friends. They met when Monique had transferred to Middleton High and Kim helped her adjust to the dynamics of the high school life there. They became friends quickly, and enjoyed a myriad of things from fashion to boys. Everything was going great and Kim was glad to have someone as supportive as Monique in her corner. That was until the rumors started floating around.
"I heard you tucked tail and left town?" Monique asked. "What happened you couldn't find someone else's boyfriend to take advantage of so you came running back home?"
Kim frowned at those choice of words. Monique's then boyfriend had told her how Kim had thrown herself at him. Her boyfriend happened to be friends with Eric and he too was part of his campaign to ruin her reputation. He succeeded in gaining Monique's support and she became one of the leading voices against Kim using the altercation with her boyfriend as proof.
"Monique, you know that isn't true. What do you even want anyway?" Kim asked, deciding it was better to just cut to the chase.
Monique just stared at Kim, her nostrils flared as Kim showed no signs of backing down. Both women tensed and Monique's grip on her cart tightened; she wanted to rush Kim and hurt her physically. However she knew she was no match for Kim as the redhead had taken martial arts classes. That's why she settled for hurting her emotionally. It was the only way she could make Kim feel how she felt and now she felt that same feeling come rising to the surface when she laid eyes on the redhead.
Kim loosened up and took a deep breath before exhaling. She looked at Monique before she spoke. "I know you think you know what I did but you have no idea the hell I was put through. Monique, you were my best friend. We told each other everything. I looked at you like a sister. We're adults now, can we just talk like adults too?" She asked the ebony woman.
Monique looked her up and down as if she was considering Kim's words. Kim gave Monique a small smile to show the sincerity in her words. Monique scoffed. "Clearly we didn't tell each other everything." She said before taking her cart and leaving the aisle.
Kim's expression saddened as she watched her former friend turn her back to her again. On the other side of the store Anne had gotten everything she needed when she saw Kim walking up with the last items on her list. The red head dropped the items into the cart. Anne was about to thank her when she saw the sour expression on Kim's face.
"Kim what's wrong?" Anne asked.
"I need some air." Kim replied as she hurriedly exited the store.
XX
Kim was walking through downtown Middleton. She just needed to get away from everything in her neighborhood. Someplace where no one knew who she was. She was really hoping she could talk to Monique, she wanted her best friend back. She felt alone with Ron and her other friends in the force. No one she could talk and laugh with. Kim stopped in front of a window to a store as something caught her eye. She looked to see an orange tabby cat staring at her. The cat tilted it's head to the side before placing a paw on the window. Kim smiled and she placed her hand on the glass next to the cat's paw. Kim's attention was taken away from the cat as she heard her phone ring, it was her mom.
"Hello." Kim said, answering the phone.
"Where are you?" Anne asked.
"Downtown Middleton in front of the PetSmart." Kim replied.
"Stay there, I'm on my way." Anne said as she hung up the phone.
It didn't take Anne long as it was just a fifteen minute drive from their house to the PetSmart. Anne pulled up and parked in front of the store. She saw Kim looking at the cat and how they interacted with each other. Kim hadn't even noticed her mom pull up in the car. Anne sat and watched Kim for a minute. She smiled, she loved seeing her daughter happy and she knew that Kim needed any happiness she could get. Anne got out of the car and approached Kim.
"Looks like you made a new friend."
Kim turned around to see her mother walk up beside her as she leaned closer to the cat in the window. Anne took her finger and wiggled it watching the cat paw at it from the other side of the glass.
"Looks like it." Kim said with a small smile.
"Well?" Anne said, getting Kim's attention once more. The red head staring at her mother as if she had grown a third eye.
"Well what?" Kim asked inquisitively.
"Are you just going to stand there or are you going to bring your new friend home?" Anne asked her.
Kim's face was puzzled at first as she had to register what her mom had just said to her. However that didn't take long and she soon smiled from ear to ear.
"Seriously!? I can take her home!?" Kim asked with pure joy.
Anne nodded. "As long as you can take care of her. Which means you're going to have to get a job."
Kim nodded showing she understood. They entered the store and Kim signed the necessary paperwork to adopt her new cat to which she affectionately called Whiskers. They purchased the necessary items needed for cat care like litter, food, food and water dishes and a litter box. Kim still needed a few more things and she walked across the street to the corner store while her mom put the cat in the car. Kim entered the store and grabbed a few snacks and something to drink. She paid for her items and was exiting the store when something caught her eye. There was a flyer on the wall next to the door. She grabbed it to see it was an opening for a fitness instructor at the local fitness center in downtown Middleton. They needed someone that was able to run exercise routines with clients, and it ranged from holding classes to one on one sessions if needed. Kim smiled, she could do that. It didn't pay much; it was about three hundred dollars a week but it was enough to make sure she could take care of her new cat and anything else that may come up. Kim folded the piece of paper up and placed it in the bag and exited the store.
Hours later
Kim sat in her chair in front of her desk. She was finishing up her application and her hand went to pet Whiskers who was asleep in her lap. She smiled as she gently ran her hand across the cat's fur, the feline purring in contentment. Her laptop started ringing and she looked back up to see she had an incoming call through messenger. It was Ron's and Zita's idea to get a messenger profile. Kim didn't want to because it would open her up to those who still wished to harass her. However they reassured her that it would be just Kim and the others in their small group of first year soldiers. She smiled as she answered the call to see not only Ron's face in the screen, but Zita, Felix and Brick as well. All pushing to fit their face into the screen as they said their greetings.
"Hey guys!" Kim said with a smile. "How's training been going?"
"Oooh you know." Ron said dismissively.
"You're not missing much." Zita followed.
Kim smiled. She appreciated them trying to soften the blows of her no longer being there and yeah it did hurt that she couldn't be there to advance alongside her friends but it didn't stop her from wanting to know things.
"Did they find the new pilots for Kiryu?" Was Kim's next question.
Ron shook his head. "Nope and Jacob is still pushing to get Shego and Josh to be compatible pilots."
Kim's face grimaced with physical disgust. She still can't believe that they think he is good enough to work alongside Shego let alone pilot Kiryu. It should have been Your Kim thought, she's the closest to Shego in physical prowess and would have the dexterity needed to keep up with her while piloting alongside Shego. Even Bonnie would be a better candidate than Josh.
Bonnie, the name echoing through Kim's mind. She did wonder how the brunette was doing. She also knew that Ron and others or at least Zita and company thought that she and Bonnie hated each other. Ron has never pressed the issue of the day he saw Bonnie in Kim's room, and judging by the fact no one else has asked Kim guessed he didn't say anything to anyone else either. Then Kim got an idea.
"I bet Bonnie is overjoyed that I'm gone. Hopefully that doesn't mean she's turned her attention to you guys." Kim said.
Her words caused Ron to crane his eyebrow at his best friend. However before he could say anything Zita spoke up as she moved to be closer to the screen.
"Actually no, we haven't heard a word out of her." Zita said.
"Yeah she's been with Shego and Jacob helping oversee the training." Felix added. "She hasn't spoken a word to us."
"Or gloated about your departure." Brick added.
"Oh." Was Kim's reply. Her face expressed some dejection.
"What's up KP?" Ron asked picking up on her tone of voice.
"Nothing." Kim replied. " Just been a long day. I ran into Monique."
"Uh oh." Came Ron's reply.
"Did she do anything?" Zita asked concern in her voice as she was currently off screen.
Kim shook her head. "No, but she let me know what she thinks of me."
"Don't focus on it KP." Ron told her. "She's the one missing out on what a great person you are."
"We're all adults now she should be willing to at least converse like one." Felix added.
"Yeah we'll at least today wasn't all bad." Kim said.
"What else happened today?" Felix wondered.
Kim's face brightened as she smiled. Kim grabbed her laptop and gently raised it as she showed her friends the orange tabby cat.
"Awwww kitty!" Zita said as they all expressed their joy and excitement over the red head's new companion.
"Does your new little buddy have a name?" Zita asked.
"Whiskers, but Whisky for short." Kim answered as she pet the sleeping feline once more.
Kim let out a yawn which signaled to Ron and the others that it was time for the red head to rest. Her scars may have healed but it didn't mean she was physically back to one hundred percent. Kim tried protesting but they insisted especially since Betty had a training regimen for them all in the morning. They all said their farewells and the call ended. Kim got up, picking up Whiskers and placed the cat on the bed. The cat meowed as he got comfortable curling up on a pillow and laying back down.
Kim walked into the bathroom to freshen up before bed. She opened the door to the bathroom when she suddenly grabbed her head. Kim groaned loudly as she felt an intense pain shoot through her skull and a high pitched sound soon accompanied her. Kim dropped to her knees with her hands over her temples as she hoped to ease the pain by rubbing her temples. When she felt the pain subside some she opened her eyes. Her vision cleared and she saw not the tile of the bathroom floor but a rocky floor with various plant life growing from the ground.
Kim was bewildered, she had to be hallucinating. The headache was so intense she was imagining being somewhere else to stop the pain. She reached out to watch the wall of rock before her and felt the smooth texture of it. She pulled her hand back quickly still wondering if it was indeed a dream. She looked around and to see she was inside a cave which was indicated by the stalactites hanging above her. Kim could see a glow from deeper in the cave and she hesitantly took a step. Her ears were still ringing a bit as she held her head with her left hand and used her right hand to keep herself up and braced against the cave walls. Her footsteps echoed as she reached the corner from where the light emanated from and she took a moment to consider going any further. Kim didn't know where she was or how she got here, she rules out it being Kaiju related. There would have been an alert on the news warning everyone. Maybe it was some other type of phenomenon like she heard on various YouTube channels.
Kim took a deep breath and peered around the corner wincing a bit as her eyes took in the light. When her eyes adjusted she could see the light was coming from plants she had never seen before. They were star-shaped and had three long bulb-like extensions coming from the middle of it. It was from this bulb like extensions is where the light came from which lit the cavern, giving it a warm feeling.
Kim looked around taking in the area when she noticed there was something on the cave walls. She walked over to get a closer look. Kim noticed it was a depiction of several people. Some were on their knees which Kim figured they were kneeling. The other figures were seen holding things that Kim couldn't make out or drawn in an expressive pose that Kim surmised was dancing; she wasn't exactly sure. She could see there was more to the cave art and she took her hand to brush the foliage aside on the cave wall so she could see the rest of it. Kim let out a gasp and her eyes widened in shock. She was staring an image of a moth. This was depicting people worshiping a moth, but that couldn't have been just any moth.
Is that Mothra? Kim wondered.
She looked around the cave to see other drawings and even writing on the cave walls. The writing she couldn't read it was in a language the redhead didn't recognize. Kim stopped when she noticed something further back in the cave. She walked forward pushing passed some foliage that draped down the passageway. She stopped when she saw an enormous object before her. It was yellow with sky blue stripes and it was weird but she could have sworn she could feel something inside it.
"It's an egg." Kim murmured to herself as she realized what was before her.
She wanted to take a step closer to it. There was an air of familiarity surrounding this egg. She felt calm and comfortable. The uneasy feeling she had earlier was gone.
"That's Mothra's egg!" A pair of voices rang out.
Kim looked around the cavern before her eyes settled on two twin women barely over a foot in height.
Kim was shocked. "You're the Elias. Moll and Lora." Kim said acknowledging the women from before.
The two twin women smiled as they looked up at Kim.
"Where am I?" Kim asked the women.
"Infant island, our home." They answered.
"Home." Kim repeated. "That's right I was home before I was brought here. I thought I was dreaming but this place feels too real. Did you bring me here?"
They nodded. "Yes." Lora answered.
"We used our telepathic abilities to bring your mind to this place. Physically however you are still safe in your home back in Middleton." Moll told her.
Kim just nodded. It was so much to take in but she needed to know why she was brought here.
"Could you tell me why you brought me here? Is it because Mothra is about to hatch?" Kim guessed. She wasn't sure if that was the case but judging by the warmth that exuded from the egg she guessed it would have been soon.
The twins nodded. "Mothra laid her egg long before she perished in her fight in Seattle. However there is a new threat coming and we fear that Mothra will not hatch in time to stop it."
"A new threat? What is it?" Kim asked.
The twins looked at each other, Moll's face full of concern but Lora gave her a reassuring nod. Moll then spoke.
"Our older sister Belvera. She's awoken a great darkness and she plans to use it to wipe out humanity." Moll explained.
"A great darkness?" Kim repeated.
The twins nodded once more. "She plans to unleash Battra against mankind."
That's where we're ending it for now. For those of you that couldn't pin the tail on the Kaiju in the last chapter it was indeed Battra. Some things to look forward to Battra is going to be around for a while and I will be giving him an interesting ability. You got a glimpse of it when he emerged in the valley from the previous chapter. Until then everyone take care, stay safe and I'll see you in the next one.
