Hello, everyone! My name is goldenbelle75 and this is my fourth fanfiction I have written on here! This is my first Demon Slayer fanfiction, so I hope you enjoy it! I don't own any characters from Demon Slayer or any references to movies or music. I only own my OC Laurel and her parents.

Chapter 1: First Impressions

The next morning, Laurel woke up to the sound of her alarm clock going off. She pushed the button and laid in her bed a few extra moments, staring at the clock. 6:00 a.m… the first day at her new school. It was probably going to be like every other school she went to. The students were going to be very judgmental and rude. It was a given, especially at a private school.

But Laurel had a plan, like she always did. Keep quiet and stay to yourself. She was going to remain a wallflower, and hope to stay as invisible as possible. She just wanted to finish her last 3 years of school. She sat up in the bed, and stretched. I need to remember to bring a book and my earbuds. She got up and left her room, heading towards the kitchen to make some breakfast. She got out the toaster to make some toast and a pan to make some eggs. Of course, her parents weren't awake yet, but she didn't expect them to be. If they had a chance to sleep in, they would take it, even if that meant not seeing their only daughter off on her first day of school.

As Laurel made her breakfast, she made a mental list of everything she would need for today: gym clothes, tennis shoes, her uniform and new shoes, a book to read if she got bored, notebooks, pencils, pens, her binders, and her phone and earbuds. She finished her breakfast and sat at the table to eat it. She spread some jam on her toast, and savored the taste of everything she put in her mouth. Something else that made her happy besides books, movies, and music, was food. She loved trying new food and she did enjoy eating. She didn't overeat though. She appreciated her body and wanted to make herself look nice for her sake.

She ate quickly, making sure she had plenty of time to get ready. Once she cleaned her dishes and put them in the dishwasher, she got dressed in her uniform. The uniform consisted of a white button-up blouse, a blue bow tied at the collar, a solid black vest, a blue and black plaid skirt that goes halfway down the legs, and a thin black suit jacket. A tan belt with a square gold buckle completed it the look. The jacket was part of the uniform, but it didn't have to be worn until the weather got colder.

Once she was dressed, Laurel went into the bathroom and put on a little makeup. Then, she fixed her hair. First, she straightened it and then she curled it a little at the bottom, making waves in her hair. She completed her look with some little pearl earrings and her dark brown, vintage, lace-up oxford pumps. She smiled, satisfied with her look. She put on a little perfume and went back downstairs to get her backpack. She hoisted it onto her back and grabbed her phone and earbuds. She also slipped a book inside. She put her earbuds in and started some music as she left the house. She patted her pocket where her classroom schedule and locker combination were typed up on a piece of paper. She started walking down the sidewalk, headed towards the Academy.

It was a beautiful late summer morning, and the sun was shining down from the treetops. At first, she noticed some other students walking towards the Academy in the same outfits, but eventually she zoned out and focused on the music she was listening to. By the time she arrived at school, she was bopping her head to Twenty One Pilots. She walked inside the school, completely oblivious to the other students around her. She grabbed her paper and looked at the locker number on the paper. She looked at the lockers near her and started looking for hers. She walked a little farther down the hall, and found it. She did the combination and opened it. She realized that her first class was biology. She took everything out and started organizing her locker. Thankfully, no one had talked to her yet.

She grabbed one of her binders, her notebook, and her pencil case. She took her earbuds out of her ears and put her phone inside her backpack. She held her schedule and looked for the room number. The biology classroom was further down the hall. As she walked in, she noticed that the room had long tables to sit at, instead of desks. She looked around for a place to sit down. There were about 4 other students there already. She walked towards a spot near the front of the room. She walked past a student that had his back to her and she sat down a few seats away from him. She set her stuff down at the table and opened her notebook. She wrote the date at the top of the page and started doodling. Little did she know, someone had their eyes on her.

That morning, Kyojuro and Senjuro got themselves up and ready for school before their father came home. Depending on how the night went at the Demon Slayer Corp., would determine their father's attitude. It was so unpredictable that neither of them wanted to risk finding out, so they got ready as quickly as they could before Shinjuro got home.

It's better for father to drink alone and in peace and quiet than lashing out at us, Kyojuro reassured himself. Because he and Senjuro were walking to school so early, they took their time and looked around at the beauty of the early morning.

"It's a beautiful morning, brother," smiled Senjuro.

"It really is," said Kyojuro in a content voice. He listened to the birds singing in the trees above them. He held onto the straps of his backpack and smiled up at the brightening sky. Then, he looked down at his little brother. "Don't forget that I'm going to be working out at the gym after school."

"Don't worry, I remembered. I'll be doing my homework while I wait for you." Kyojuro smiled lovingly at him. Once they arrived at the Academy, Senjuro hugged Kyojuro.

"I'll be waiting in front of the elementary school for you later ," said Kyojuro.

"Ok, see you after school," smiled Senjuro. They let go of each other and walked towards their respective buildings. Despite the rejection he faced on the phone yesterday, Kyojuro felt especially optimistic today. He felt deep down inside that something good was going to happen. He walked into the high school building. There were a few students scattered around the halls, but it was still fairly empty because of how early it still was. Kyojuro went to his locker and gathered his book and materials for biology class. He was the first one in class. He sat down at one of the stools at the table and opened his textbook. He decided to get a head start on his reading for the day.

As it got closer to 8:00, a few more students started coming in. As he was reading, he noticed someone walk past him and sit down at the same side of the table as him. Naturally, he looked up to see who it was, and he realized it was a new student. The first thing he noticed was her height. It might have been the pumps she was wearing, but she seemed taller than most of the girls he had met at the Academy. As she sat down on the stool, he noticed her hair. He saw the soft waves in her dark hair that cascaded down her shoulder and back. It looked so soft. When she turned towards the table to open her notebook, he saw her profile. She looked very pretty.

She will be part of the popular girls, for sure, he thought. Once more students started coming into the room, he had to turn back to his book. He didn't want to be caught staring at her. When class started, he turned towards his teacher as he took attendance. He snuck glances over at the new girl. She was sitting up straight and elegant. Even her posture is perfect, he thought. The teacher called all of the students in alphabetical order. When he said, "Laurel James," the new girl raised her hand slightly and said, "here".

"Welcome to our class, Ms. James," said the teacher, looking up briefly and smiling. He continued with roll call, and when he got to "Kyojuro Rengoku," a bright and cheery "Here!" could be heard. Kyojuro smiled brightly like normal, and he glanced over at the new girl. She continued to watch the teacher, completely unfazed by the names of the students he was calling out.

During class, the teacher wrote notes on the board and lectured about the topic they were discussing. Laurel took notes diligently, but remained quiet when it was time to answer questions. Kyojuro noticed that she really wanted to answer some of the questions, but was very hesitant to do so. She seems shy, he thought. Maybe she doesn't feel confident in answering questions in case she gets something wrong. He continued to sneak glances at her as he took his own notes. He couldn't help himself. When class was over, everyone collected their materials and left the room. Kyojuro wondered if Laurel would be in his next class, but to his disappointment, she wasn't in any more of his classes that morning. He did however, catch a glance of where her locker was. Number 219...I'll have to remember that, thought Kyojuro as he jotted the number down on a piece of notebook paper.

At lunch time, Kyojuro grabbed his packed lunch and headed towards the cafeteria. He spotted a few of his friends sitting at a table, waiting for him. His friend, Tengen Uzui was one of the popular kids, but he didn't hang out with the main clique. A lot of the girls thought that Tengen was hot. Kyojuro's two other friends, Mitsuri Kanroji and Obanai Iguaro, were sitting across from Tengen and Kyojuro. They were dating. As the four friends chatted about their day, Kyojuro looked around, wondering where Laurel was sitting and who she was sitting with. He finally found her amongst the room full of students. She was sitting by herself, not too far from their table. She was looking down at her food and eating. She had a turkey sandwich, apple slices, water and carrots. A perfectly balanced and healthy lunch, thought Kyojuro. She's practically perfect in every way. Her posture, her appearance, even her name suits her! But she's sitting alone. Maybe she really is shy, or...

"Hey, Kyojuro, who are you staring at?" asked Tengen with a smirk.

"Oh…uh… I was just looking around," said Kyojuro, turning back to his friends as casually as possible.

Tengen chuckled, not totally convinced by what Kyojuro was saying. Once lunch was over, Kyojuro headed to study hall. He sat near the back of the classroom, and pulled out some of his homework to work on. As more familiar students came into the room, one caught his eye. The new girl was in his study hall! He looked up as she walked in and sat down in the front row. She had some of her homework as well, and was working on it quietly.

Okay, Kyojuro, you need to focus on your schoolwork, he said to himself. He began working on his reading assignment and answering the questions about the chapter he was reading. About 20 minutes later, he snuck a glance at Laurel's back. She hadn't moved and she continued to have her head down as she worked. He smiled slightly and returned to his assignment.

When it was time for 7th period, Laurel headed towards the gym with her gym clothes. She followed a few more students who were also headed towards the gym. She walked into the locker room and started changing into her gym clothes. It was a white t-shirt with the words "Kimetsu Academy" written on it in big letters and a pair of dark blue shorts. She also changed out of her oxford pumps into some tennis shoes. Once she was dressed, she stepped into the gym with the other students.

So far, her day went very well. No one had talked to her and she kept herself very quiet. Being a wallflower was working very well for the time being and she hoped to keep it that way. Once attendance was called, everyone had to run laps around the gym. Laurel kept up a steady jog. She wasn't too fast or too slow. As she jogged, she looked at a few of the students ahead of her. One student in particular caught her eye. This student was male and he had red and yellow hair that looked like flames. Just this particular feature was enough to make Laurel curious. I've never seen anyone with hair like that. I wonder if he dyes it that color…or if it's natural. That was the only thought that traced her mind until she went back to focus on the task at hand.

Once the class was finished running laps, the teacher got out some mats and started teaching some yoga. Everyone sat on a mat and watched the teacher demonstrate the poses. Then, it was the student's turn. Laurel tried to match the poses as well as she could. Thankfully, with several years of ballet and dance under her belt, she had remained pretty flexible. As the teacher came around to check on everyone's poses, he walked towards Laurel. To her relief, he gave her a nod of approval, acknowledging that she was doing the poses correctly. She sighed in relief by not being called out. However, there was one person behind her that couldn't take his eyes off of her, unbeknownst to her. It was the young man with red and yellow hair….

I hope you liked the first chapter! The first few chapters will probably be a little short to start with, but I'm hoping it will pick up as the story goes along! Thanks for reading! ~goldenbelle75
