I was potentially going to write a sequel to this story, but I don't know if I will anymore.
But it's ok.
I hope you guys enjoy!

Chapter 16: Fatherhood
"Silk." Star Saber knocked on the door to the youngling's quarters.
She opened the door, allowing him to peak in and see the room filled with some plants and possibly some small stuffed animals since having real animals in her room was not happening.
"Hello, Saber. Can I help you?"
"Patty and Jan's schools have an event today. Would you like to join me in going?"
The youngling grinned. "Yeah! I'd love to."
"Alright, give me a moment." Going to his own quarters, he sat down, allowing himself to go into a meditative state as his holoform activated. He could focus on his holoform and what was going on around it.
Silk did something similar in her own quarters.
Both of their holoforms met in the hallway. "Ready to go?"
"Yeah! Patty told me that her school was doing something. There's some kind of fair."
"Yep. Their schools collectively hold a fair. Some classes bake goods and others make crafts. Jan's class is performing a song."
"Aw! Sounds fun."
He reached over, patting her head. "I know that tone. You want to go to school with them, don't you?"
"I mean, I probably would know a lot already, but yeah… I want to make more friends here and school seems like the best place to do it."
"Maybe one day that will be possible."
Silk sighed as their holoforms passed through the ground bridge, appearing in an alleyway near to Patty's school. "I never asked. How long have you been their dad?"
"Since Patty was seven and Jan was only a year old at the time. It's been 9 years since they lost their parents and then came to live with me." He smiled. "I didn't get to adopt them until almost a year later. Turns out adopting across species requires a LOT of paperwork."
"I can imagine."
As they walked into the fair. Saber smiled as Jan spotted them. "Dad!" He threw himself into his dad's arms. "I was hoping you'd get here in time! And you brought Silk! Silk, do you wanna meet my friends?"
"Sure!"
The little boy dragged her off toward a group of kids.
Saber watched, glancing over to see Patty and her friends, standing at a stand where they were selling hot dogs to raise money for their class.
As Patty waved at him, his spark soared.
How did he get so lucky?
Long Ago
As the war between Autobots and Decepticons began, some bots wanted nothing to do with the war.
Dai Atlas was one of these bots. He created a community for those who wanted nothing to do with the war.
Star Saber, while understanding why the war was happening and not necessarily disagreeing with the reasons behind it, did not want to fight. He did not believe in fighting in battle after battle.
Before the war, he worked on protecting others. His skills with a blade, and a name that reminds one of the famous weapon, made him known as the greatest swordsman in the universe.
But then, the Decepticons attacked a group of refugees that were staying outside the community he lived in.
Star Saber, now one of Dai Atlas's commanders, asked to go and defend those refugees.
He wouldn't fight in battle after battle, but he would fight to defend.
To defend his home.
To defend his friends.
To defend the innocent.
But Dai Atlas refused.
And Saber went against his order. Going outside of the walls of their compound to defend the refugees outside.
And he found himself joined by the Autobots, fighting side-by-side with Optimus Prime.
Someone he'd always respected.
And after the battle, he left Dai Atlas and joined up with Optimus.
The Autobot leader understood Star Saber's ideals and never forced him to do any assignments he didn't want to.
So, he defended the innocent.
Time passed, and eventually, Optimus made his way to a planet called earth.
And eventually, Optimus called him to this tiny world.
He came to this gem of a world.
By this point, a human that many of the bots considered family, Marissa Faireborn, had joined the military and didn't live on the base anymore, and the Autobots had contact with a group of humans called the United Nations.
…
And then came the battle that changed his life forever.
A group of human scientists set up near an energon mine. They did not know what the strange rocks were that were obviously mined out by someone.
Two of the scientists were Masato and Simone Minakaze(1). They drove out to the mine with their seven-year-old and one-year-old in their camper van.
They'd never before had an issue with their children at a site.
But this was not a normal site.
The human activity first set off the mine's alarm, so Star Saber went alone to check it out.
But by the time he'd arrived, so had Decepticons.
Star Saber landed, eyeing the burning human vehicles.
His spark sank.
The poor people of this planet, for the most part, knew not of the war that raged on their own soil. So, some unlucky few found themselves in the crossfire.
"Well, if it isn't the famous Star Saber." He whirled around, finding Megatron himself standing behind him.
"What have you done!?"
"Nothing more than squashed some insects."
Saber drew his blade, charging at Megatron. Their blades clashing.
He would not allow this to happen anymore!
Megatron's attacks hit with fury. Saber now understood why he was as feared as he was.
But he was not a professional swordsman.
Their battle raged on, Star Saber taking the edge in the battle.
But Megatron merely smiled.
His blaster fired, the blast going past Saber-
Only for screams to sound behind him.
A smoking crater scarred the ground, and two human figures lay on the ground, curled up, their bodies smoking.
"No!"
Only for Megatron to turn his blaster on Saber the moment his attention wavered.
He counted himself fortunate that backup arrived for him not moments later.
He crawled, his wings blackened from Megatron's blaster to the humans, calling out. "Ratchet! Ratchet!"
The medic ran over. "Saber, your wings."
"Forget about me! Save them!"
Ratchet turned his optics to the humans.
Thankfully, with Marissa living with them for so long, he had a decent understanding of human medicine.
But nothing could save these two.
The man, his dark hair and beard singed, coughed. "T-take care of your brother…"
Saber gasped as his body unfurled, the man gasping in pain. The man held a female youngling in his arms. He'd wrapped himself around her.
And the youngling barely had a scratch.
"Daddy!" The girl cried, looking over at him.
The woman looked up at Saber and Ratchet, her blonde hair covering the burns across her face. "Please… keep them save…"
She too uncurled to reveal another youngling, far younger.
Practically an infant.
And Saber watched the life go out of their eyes.
The older youngling began to wail, her younger brother following suit.
Saber clenched his fist as Ratchet sighed. "There was nothing we could do."
"There's something now." Saber scooted closer, the little girl glancing up at him. "Hey, it's alright. I won't hurt you." Behind him, an explosion sounded from the mines. "Quickly, we need to get out of here. Grab your brother." He held out a hand for the girl to climb into.
The girl, shuddering and still crying, grabbed her screaming brother and ran into Saber's open hand. Gently, he cupped his hand around them as Ratchet helped him stand up.
"Let's go." A ground bridge opened, and they moved through and into their base.
Ratchet helped him to a medical berth. "Now, don't move. I'll patch up your wings."
"I won't move." Saber unfurled his hand, looking down at the crying humans in his hand.
The girl looked up at him, her auburn hair sticking to her tear-stained face. "Where are my mommy and daddy?"
"I'm sorry, little one. They're gone."
The girl, holding her younger brother to her, began to cry again.
Saber could hear Ratchet sighing in annoyance behind him, but he understood.
They were only younglings.
"Saber, you ok?" Jazz asked as the rest of the bots came back to the base.
"I'm alright. Are there any other survivors?"
"You mean the humans?"
"Yeah."
Optimus shook his head. "Only the two you hold. We brought the deceased humans with us. It's only right we turn them over to the government to receive a proper burial."
"I agree." Looking down, Saber saw the older child looking wide-eyed at the group.
With her grief, she probably hadn't fully comprehended what was happening to her.
But now she did.
"It's alright." He soothed. "No one will hurt you here. You're both safe. My name is Star Saber. What's yours?"
"P-Patty…"
"And what's your brother's name?"
"Jan."
"Those are nice names."
Ratchet sighed. "I got your wings fixed up, but don't strain yourself."
"Got it." Standing up, he carefully walked over to a quiet area of base to set the younglings down at. "There you go." He sat down as Patty hopped off his hand, setting her brother down.
Jan began crawling around, looking somewhat confused.
But not afraid.
His big eyes looked up at Saber, and he smiled.
"Why did you save us?"
"I couldn't let you die." Saber said sadly. "I couldn't… save your parents, but I could save you."
Patty didn't answer.
She sat on the floor, her brother going to her, still smiling.
They sat there for a few hours, the toddler crawling between his sister and Saber. Ever so often, one of the other bots would come over, looking down at the little children.
But only for a short time, as Patty seemed very nervous.
"Where have you guys been!?"
"Sorry, we had stuff to do."
Saber looked over as their human team came into the room. Thank Primus. "Can one of you come over here real quick?"
"What's up?" Ayal walked over, pausing as he spotted the children. "Oh- what happened?"
"There were some humans at the site. These two are the only survivors."
Patty looked up, surprised to see another human.
But she didn't show much emotion.
Mostly likely in shock from the day's events.
"Hey, M. This is probably your department."
"Why?"
"You went through something similar."
Marissa sighed and walked over, looking at the children. "Oh boy. Ayal, why don't you let the bosses know about this, so we can find a place for them to stay."
"But," Saber looked down at them, "why can't they stay here?"
"Do you want them to stay here?"
"If it's alright with Optimus."
Ironhide shook his head. "Listen, some adult humans or a teenager is one thing, but these two are very young. Even when Marissa came here, she could mostly take care of herself. We have no idea how to take care of younglings this small."
"There IS the internet." Ayal shrugged.
"I'll take care of them." Saber huffed. "I can figure it out. And I do have a holoform."
Optimus held up a hand. "We need to consider the children's opinions." He walked over, kneeling down to look at Patty. "We can send you back to other humans, but you can never talk about us again. Or you can stay here. It's your decision."
Patty looked down at her brother, who laughed as he stared at his reflection in Star Saber's knee. "I… I guess… we can stay."
"Still gotta let the council know." Ayal headed for the computer.
Saber smiled down at the girl before he finally decided to activate his holoform.
The girl jumped as he appeared in the space before her.
"It's just me, Saber. Though I guess people call me Mr. Conrad Saber when I'm in my human form."
Little Jan blinked, staring at this strange person who just appeared. He crawled over, grabbing at the holoform.
Reaching down, Saber picked up the boy who laughed.
And even Patty smiled a little.
And after a few weeks, the little ones found themselves right at home in the base. The security council sent a therapist to meet with Patty every week, and it seemed to be helping her cope more.
And Saber had an idea-
"But, how would you return to Cybertron? They can't come with you."
"Then I'll stay here." Saber shrugged. "I don't mind."
Optimus smiled. "If that is what you want."
"It is."
Marissa smiled warmly from her spot on Hound's shoulder. "You'll do great. Though, I can't imagine the paperwork."
"No kidding."
"First cross-species adoption." Titilayo laughed. "I can't wait to see the look on the council's face when you tell them."
"It'll be great."
And it has been great.
"Dad!" Patty waved as he came over.
The boy next to her, a young man with brown hair, grinned. "Hey, Mr. Saber."
"Nice to see you Shuta."
The young man with dark skin and long dark hair next to him waved. "Hi there."
"Cab, how are you doing?"
"Pretty well."
"Hi, Mr. Saber." Said a girl with blonde hair.
"Minerva."
Patty smiled. "Want to buy something, Dad?"
"I would love to." He handed them some cash he'd borrowed from Dante and Shuta handed him a hot dog.
Patty looked past him. "Looks like Silk is having fun."
"Oh yeah, she's thrilled."
Cab glanced past Saber as well. "Oh! Is that the girl Kelly was talking about?"
"That's her."
"She's kinda cute."
Shuta elbowed his classmate. "Then go ask her out."
"Shut up!"
Glancing at her dad, Patty snickered a little.
Saber shook his head as he glanced back, seeing Silk laughing with Jan and his friends.
Yeah, things would be alright.
Blackarachnia gasped as another oracle ended.
"Oh no…"
She ran to her computer, hoping, praying that someone would answer the call she sent out.
And thankfully, someone did.
"Blackarachnia? What's going on?"
"Listen Windblade. I need to be patched through to wherever Silk Spinner is! It's an emergency!"
Footnotes:
(1) The names of Jan and Patty's parents are never named. It is stated that their father is Japanese, so I used the name of the Japanese actor for his character in the anime. Their mother is French and so I found a French variant of the name "Simon" which was the name of the English actor for Doctor Minakaze as the English actor of her character was not listed on the wiki.
VAs:
Dr. Masato Minakaze- Trevor DeVall (Scourge, Rocket Raccoon, Leslie 'Mac' Macallister)
