Chapter 41!

Since it's a 3 way relationship I need to also focus on the pairs within it so sometimes someone won't make an appearance.

Enjoy, more notes at the end!

Low as Dirt

*Rumi POV*

Rumi didn't do useless things.

Flopping onto the shoddy wooden bench, the rabbit girl let her head lean over the back as she stared up at the evening sky. She let loose exhausted breaths and propped her arms over the bench back while kicking her legs out sloppily. She could taste blood in her mouth and she was certain her eye was turning black while her ribs also ached with a throbbing pain. All in all, Rumi hurt like hell but she picked up the creaking of the bench and looked over to the side at the other person sitting on it.

Midoriya had a busted lip and nose while also nursing plenty of visible bruises. The taller greenette had one of her legs propped onto the other while she leaned forward and rested an elbow on her raised knee as she dug her chin into her palm. The horse girl looked pretty sour but there was a hint of bemusement in her half-grimace so Rumi laughed up towards the sky.

"Suspended again?" she cheekily grinned and the horse girl side eyed her as if to say 'do you have to ask?'.

"Fuck you, Usako," the horse girl bit back in retort. "It's your fault since you're such a damn baby when it comes to getting hurt," Midoriya told her with a snort and wave of her hand. "I bet ya scream bloody murder when you stub a toe," she added on and this time it was Rumi who blew a raspberry.

Their last tussle before today had of course gotten them both in some hot water which resulted in their current suspensions from their respective schools. Midoriya had nailed her pretty good and had Rumi shouting a storm of obscenities which quickly caught peoples' attentions but the rabbit girl didn't see how that was entirely her fault.

"You have weapons for legs thanks to almost literally being built like a horse," Rumi shot back. "Not to mention your stupid fortitude," she frowned, thinking of just how hard it was to get the greenette to stagger and fall back. "I've been kicking you with enough force to break a tree and all you get are some bruises," she reminded, tracing back to the first time they got into a scuffle and how surprised she'd been when her best kick was reduced to nothing but a love tap, but Midoriya laughed now instead.

"Except you always hit me 10 times the amount I get you," she commented with an enthusiastic gaze, her voice holding nothing against Rumi, and the rabbit student waved a finger.

"I'd have to be blind and stupid to miss that fat ass of yours, Ship," she smirked which earned her a half-hearted dirty look.

"Square your hero name away yet?" Midoriya asked, shifting topics while she began to redo her green hair and Rumi nodded with a grunt.

"Yup, you?" she turned back while her rival finished and stretched back into the bench.

"I was gonna use Emerald Ship but then everyone started calling me that already," Midoriya revealed with an annoyed puff. "Using a name that everyone associates with a delinquent is kinda awkward isn't it?"

Rumi kinda got it but she still thought it was a solid name. Maybe it was just cause she'd always known Midoriya by that name instead so it stuck.

"Just use it," she told her simply, not about to think about it more than that. "For people that know ya then maybe they'll realize they can fix their fucked up lives if you could," she remarked while standing up for a stretch herself and the greenette flipped her off.

"I must've knocked one too many brain cells of yours loose," Midoriya replied but Rumi just stuck her tongue out.

"Fuckin' bite me," she challenged and Midoriya laughed at the provocation.

There was a brief moment as things quieted down and the pair listened to the sounds of the neighborhood simply moving along around them. Rumi was about ready to switch streams but Midoriya suddenly began to chuckle.

"My life is screwed ain't it," the greenette stated more than questioned and suppressed amusement rocked her shoulders.

Rumi didn't know why but she found Midoriya's out of nowhere proclamation pretty funny too and she howled along as she thought of it more. Their laughter mixed together and the rabbit girl had to wipe her eyes as she came down.

"Just realizing?" Rumi had to ask but she hummed to herself right after. "I ain't better I guess," she acknowledged and the horse girl tapped a foot.

"We're fucked," Midoriya grinned though she leaned and aimed that expression to the dimming sky while her eyes closed.

"Who cares!" Rumi shot back, not bothered in the slightest. "Don't know until it's actually done," she reminded and Midoriya grunted back.

"Yo, Usako..." the greenette began and Rumi eyed her.

"Mm?" she mumbled and Midoriya's smile only grew.

"You better not get weaker," she told her and Rumi felt that usual heat of excitement building in her stomach as an almost threatening edge laced the other girl's voice.

"That's my line," she said while giving a few last minute twists and bouncing on her toes for a moment. "Now then..." Rumi urged.

She didn't go on but instead fired a sudden kick that met Midoriya's face dead on and launched her over the bench's back. The horse girl tumbled over a few times but back into an upright position while groaning as she clutched her once more bloodied nose. Midoriya leveled those raring to go green eyes back at her and stood tall before cracking her neck.

"Back to it!" Rumi called and Midoriya stomped her feet a few times.

"Guess this is why I like ya, Usako!" she yelled, already making a head on dash to her, and Rumi barely leapt to the side of the straight kick that would have sent her flying.

"Ya ain't bad yourself, Ship!" she cheered and the two got right on track.

This was exactly what they needed.

Notes and Stuff

Rumi and Izumi will continue to refer to the other as 'Usako' and 'Ship'. No Ryuko this time around but she'll get more time with each of them next. Reminder, they all go to different schools and Rumi and Izumi are 3rd years while Ryuko is a 2nd year.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed and look forward to more updates from me!
