Chapter 12
The next morning an elleth helped Artemis into an elven gown which was much different than what she was used to. Silk and velvet cloth in burgundy with gold designs sewn into the fabric. The elleth tied some of her hair back into a braid and allowed the rest of her hair to lay freely against her back.
"There, fit to be a lady of Rivendell."
Artemis looked at herself in the mirror. Never once had she thought that she would be wearing an elven gown. She thought that she would be wearing the clothes that she had brought along with her. She looked different than what she thought she would be. "Thank you."
"I'm sure that your friends are waiting for you."
"Thank you again for helping me." She said softly.
"Think nothing of it. Your ribs still need time to heal and this is the only way that your ribs can heal to have help changing clothes."
"I am surprised though. I didn't think that you would have any gowns that would fit me because I'm so short."
"They were made for you. We guessed the measurements."
"Thank you again." Artemis began to walk the same hallways that she had walked before when she met the company the night before. Of course was not hungry. She never ate breakfast in the morning. The thought of breakfast even made her feel ill. She saw that the dwarves were talking and so was Bilbo.
"We can just leave her here when it is time to go. Didn't she prove it back at my home? Gandalf told me that she made my concussion go away by healing me. You all saw it." Bilbo said, defending his new friend. He wasn't going to leave her behind in Rivendell because Thorin had said so. He believed that she had more of a reason to be part of this company than he did. He was not a burglar. He was just a normal hobbit being dragged along on this adventure.
"She doesn't belong," Thorin told Bilbo. "She knows nothing of this world. Gandalf made the mistake of bringing her into this world from whatever world she came from. She doesn't know what she is getting into."
"Oh really?" Artemis stated crossing her arms. Her brow eyes were filled with anger. This was still how Thorin had seen her. A liability? Someone who would get killed easily? "I know nothing of your world Thorin Oakenshield?" She spat his name out like it was a sickness. "I know more about this world than you shall ever know. I was not brought here by mistake. Gandalf knew my gift. He thought that he was being helpful, but you are being an ungrateful bastard."
The dwarves and Bilbo gasped. Thorin did not. He was just getting more and more angry with her.
"You are the one that got in the way of the arrow. You were going to die." He growled out.
"So what? Did you care? Because the one elleth that was taking care of me said you all wanted to see me make sure that I was alive and well."
"You took an arrow knowing that you could not heal yourself from the poison or the wound!" His ire began to flare even more.
"It was better me than you. Don't you think that if I allowed you to take the arrow I would be able to heal you or Kili from the poison?"
"And could you? I think you could have!"
"Not a poisonous arrow you asshole. I can only heal nonpoisonous wounds. You would have died. I took it because I knew you would rather die than have Lord Elrond heal you."
The dwarves were not expecting Artemis to go toe to toe with Throin and be able to fight against him and get away with it.
"You are just too damn stubborn to think that I cannot handle myself out there. I saved your life and Kili's from a poisoned arrow. And this is how you thank me by saying that I need to stay behind in Rivendell because you think that by the stars I am a liability? Well, I am not. I trained with swords. That's not good enough to be part of your company. Tell me, what the hell are you going to do if one of your company falls to a wound that could kill them if I am not there to heal them? Face it Thorin Oakenshield you fucking need me to help you and your company to stay alive."
"You can't fight. I saw you against those wargs. You said you were rusty. Well, that tells me that you are no good in battle. You are weak."
She slapped him. "Go to hell Thorin Oakenshield."
"We don't need you." He seethed, holding onto his reddening cheek. "WE don't need someone as worthless as you."
Artemis's eyes welled up with tears. "Fine." She said softly. "Sorry that I was so much of a bother to the company." She said before limping away from them.
Kili and Fili looked sadly at one another. They did not know that Thorin could be that cruel after he had seen her healing abilities in action and how she saved him and Kili from that arrow risking her own life. They didn't see her as worthless.
Gandalf came out. "Good Morning." He said with a smile. "Now where is our young lady friend?"
"She just left a moment ago." Ori piped up.
"Oh, she did? She's not joining us for breakfast then?"
"She most likely won't show up for any of the meals," Bofur said sadly lowering his head knowing that was probably going to be the case.
Gandalf looked alarmed. "What happened?"
"She's worthless Gandalf. She is going to be left here in Rivendell when we leave." Thorin simply stated.
"Please tell me that you didn't call her worthless to her face."
"He did," Kili said softly, shifting uncomfortably.
Gandalf's eyes widened. "Thorin Oakenshield, you are truly the worst dwarf."
"Gandalf what is it?" Bilbo asked.
"We need to find her."
"What?" Fili asked, becoming concerned.
"She was always called worthless in her world. Now that Thorin has called her worthless she'll be in a downward spiral and a fast one at that. We need to find her quickly before it is too late."
Thorin felt guilty. What did he do? What did he cause he didn't know?
"Too late?" Bilbo asked softly.
"The thing with Artemis is that you can not say she is worthless to her or that she is never good enough. She is a suicide risk. She has been doing very well until now." Gandalf shook his head. "We will meet back here at lunchtime. Hopefully one of us will find her by then. Let's hope it's not the worst."

This is the end of Chapter 12. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I tried my best and we are now seeing the side of Artemis that she kept well hidden. We're going to be in Rivendell for quite a long time. I wrote long ass chapters for the time in Rivendell, but I have to split them up so they're not long and sprawling chapters. Even though those types of chapters are always good. Please leave a review and let me know what you think of this chapter. I'll try to update with the next chapter as soon as possible. Until next time.
