Paring: Buntoine
Characters: Antoine D'Coolette, Armand D'Coolette, Councilman Beauregard Rabbot, Vanessa "Vanilla" Rabbot
Setting: D'Coolette Household, New Mobotropolis, Acornia (Year 3327)
Plot: Antoine calls his father and asks for him and Councilman Beauregard Rabbot to ask them something important
D'Coolette Resident, New Mobotropolis, Acornia
Antoine D'Coolette was determined. Nervous, but determined. Then again, Antoine had always
As a young lad, he was raised to be a nobleman worthy of standing among the elite of Acornia and defending the land against invaders. After all, his bloodline was the Sword to the Crowd.
Due to this, Antoine had a silver spoon in his mouth and felt entitled to the privileged qualities of such a life, including the respect of commoners and fellow noblemen, and he deserved the hand of a grand woman, like the princess.
Hence, for some of his life, Antoine acted like a snooty, uptight, and self-entitled brat.
Thankfully (and unfortunately), Naugus the Dark's coup d'etat of November 21st had curbed these tendencies, but in return, it had developed the Mobian coyote to become the nervous wreck and coward that most people see him on the surface level.
And how harshly his father, Armand, treated him during his basic training, swordsmanship, and etiquette lessons in the Knothole Sanctuary did not help Antoine's nerves. Especially given the loss of his mother, Marie D'Coolette née Depardieu, to Neuro-Immune Deficiency Syndrome or NIDS which claimed her life a year before the coup.
In spite of his shortcomings, Antoine had a hidden courage that surfaced after Princess Sally Acorn swore to take her kingdom back from Naugus the Dark. Thus, Sally, Bunnie, Rotor, and himself, under the leadership of the remaining elders (his father included) created a band that would later be known as the Knothole Freedom Fighters.
For twelve years, Antoine D'Coolette spent his time growing as a soldier, swordsman, and a young man. He's feared, cried, got full of himself, made mistakes, and eventually, conquered some of his greatest flaws and fears. And the coyote managed to do this, not just with the support of his father, elders, and comrades, but because the brimming courage the lies underneath the faux bravado and pride that was required for the heir to the D'Coolette and Depardieu family that hail from the lost Merica kingdom of the Spagonia nation.
Though, no person had a bigger impact on Antoine's life than the strongest member of the Knothole Freedom Fighter and the cyborg Mobian rabbit, Scarlet "Bunnie" Rabbot.
Due to taking the first step into manhood by saving the partially crystallized girl, Antoine saving Bunnie's life caused the two to come closer. And Bunnie learning to walk and live with her cybernetic limbs prompting the young man to reevaluate his life and grow past his immaturity to better himself for his team and to be there for Bunnie.
This all built up to the day prior to the Day of Reckoning three years ago. Before the Battle Of Mobotropolis and some encouragement from Rotor and Sally, Antoine finally confessed his growing feelings, And much to his surprise, Bunnie reciprocated and vowed to survive the upcoming battle to be together. Ever since, through thick and thin, Bunnie and Antoine had been inseparable.
And since the arrival of the Knothole Orphans' long lost friends, Sonic and Tails, Antoine felt that the end of the war was drawing near. While his fearful hunch told him that something large was bound to happen with the collaboration of Naugus and Dr. J. Ivo Robotnik, he believed that the Mobian Alliance had a chance with Sonic's plan and the help of the Guardian Unit of Nations (GUN).
With this and several other factors, Antoine's nerve wracking deliberation came to an end as he settled on one conclusion.
He was going to propose to Bunnie.
But, Antoine was a D'Coolette, and D'Coolette men were bound by honor. So, before he could act upon his desires, he must ask his father and Bunnie's immediate family. And the only elders that he knew from the Rabbot family were Bunnie's uncle, Councilmen Beauregard, and the recently introduced Vanessa Rabbot, or Vanilla, who was Bunnie's aunt.
Regardless, if it means he could spend the rest of his life with Bunnie, Antoine was willing to take that chance.
Hence why, the swordsman was sitting with all three of them against the table with cups of tear in front of them.
"Thank you so much for inviting us here, Mr. D'Coolette," Vanilla thanked as she took her tea cup and took a sip from it.
"It's been a mighty long time since we all get to sit down and talk like this," Beauregard agreed. "Not that I mind it and all, but what gotcha thinkin' to call us over like this?"
"Zhis was not a matter which I am responsible for, but rather my son." General Armand revealed, turning to Antoine. "He said it was imperative zhat you all three of us listen to him."
Vanilla and Bearegard also gave Antoine their undivided attention, with the older male Rabbot sibling saying, "Well, why didn't ya say so? What's on yer mind, Junior?"
Antoine was lost in his thoughts when his father cleared his throat, prompting Antoine to regain his concentration.
"O-Oh, pardon me!" Antoine nodded, excusing himself. "...I know its sudden of me to be calling you all here, but I will ensure you zhat it is profusely importance."
"What is it dear? Is something wrong?"
"Non, Mademoiselle Rabbot," Antoine shook his head with a bright smile on his face. "Everything is magnifique. B-But, I having something to tell you zhree."
"Do not be keeping us waiting, Garçon." The older Mobian coyote ordered.
Antoine winced, took a deep breath, then gathered enough courage to talk straight with the adults.
"Père, Monsieur Rabbot, Mademoiselle Rabbot," Antoine began speaking. "I love Bunnie. And everyday since I laid my feelings to her and she had accepted zhem, I have been realizing zhat zhese feelings have grown. Zhey have grown past…what you say — puppy love? She has become mon meilleur ami (my best friend), my confidant. Over zhe years, I've felt myself becoming more comfortable around her. Mon amour is now my rock. My light to zhe dark world that I live in. …A light zhat I do not thinking I can bear to live without."
Vanilla gasped, then covered her mouth to hide the utter excitement that awakened from with her. Meanwhile the two older Mobian males felt their eyebrows raise in astonishment, having understood where the conversation was heading.
"...So, as a man, I plan to ask my beloved for her hand in marriage." Antoine revealed. "But, I am a D'Coolette; born of noble blood and bound by honor. Zherefore, I must be asking zhe zhree of you…"
Antoine stood up and bowed to his elders formally and pleaded, "S'il te plaît! Allow me to receive your blessings! I swear on my family name, I will do whatever I can to make her happy!"
The older man looked at each other, knowing what answer was going to come to mind for each other. However, just when it looked like Beau or Armand was about to respond, Vanilla beat them to it.
"H-How beautiful!" Vanilla answered, holding in sobs as tears began to cascade from her eyes. "You have my blessing, Young Man."
Antoine raised his head in shock as the other males looked at Vanilla the same way.
"Nessa, are ya sure? I ain't got nothin' against Junior, here, but ya barely know the boy," Beauregard mentioned.
"There's no need for that Beauregard. If this young man is willing to brave the battlefield and fight alongside our precious niece, and be by her side all of this time, then I can trust him with Scarlet as a man." Vanilla approved. "If anything, in my opinion, Antoine has earned my respect and my blessing."
"You really mean zhat?" Antoine question.
"Of course I do," Vanilla said with a kind smile before turning to her brother. "Beau, you've watched him longer. What do you think?"
Beauregard took a sip from his tea cup and said, "I'll be honest with ya, Junior. No offense to you or your Pa, but I didn't like ya at first. Not because of yer family's dead and buried squabble with mine, but because ya didn't have no backbone and was cowardly. Not to mention you were stuck up higher than a light-pole. I never reckoned that you would ever come out of that nasty attitude of yers back then."
Antoine's head lowered in shame knowing what Beau spoke about was true.
"Thank the stars that you made one hell of a u-turn!" Beau said with pride and respect. "You've grown strong in your own right and fought alongside everybody like the soldier we all knew you could be. Hell, nobody imagined that you be the one to take out that lowdown wizard's defense shield on the Day of Reckonin'! And with a fighter plane, no less!"
Beauregard chuckled a little, causing hope to swell in Antoine's chest.
"…But more importantly, you've been supportin' mah Scarlet when she needed somebody and was the first to accept her after the surgery. These are qualities that real men need." Beauregard mentioned as an accepting smirk formed on the rabbit's face. "Now, I see that as man, you got yer head straight and know what's really matters in life. You earned your stripes, solider. And you definitely can have my blessin' too."
"Thank you, both of you!" Antoine thanked profusely, bowing his head to both rabbits. "I swear, you will not be regretting this!"
Now, everybody's heads turned to the D'Coolette patriarch, who remained stoic.
"Père…?" Antoine questioned softly.
Armand stared at his son blankly before asking, "Fils, does that young lady make you happy?"
"Oui," Antoine nodded. "She always had."
Armand stood up, walked over to his son, and placed a hand on his shoulder and said, "Zhen for zhe sake of Zhe Source and in zhe name of our honorable family, it is your duty to propose and marry that woman! Do you understand me, Fils?"
Antoine nodded profusely, feeling a great fiery passion burn inside of Antoine's stomach.
"Yes, YES!" Antoine repeated, grinning like the happiest Mobian in the world. "I will do it! I will propose to Bunnie!"
Antoine goes to his father and hugs him while thanking him over and over. Then, Beauregard (and to some extent, Vanilla) watched Armand do something he hadn't ever seen the general do.
Armand embraced his son back, taking the concilman and Antoine off guard. Then, the older coyote whispered something that moved his son emotionally, causing him to break down and cry tears of join.
This caused Beauregard and Vanilla to smile at this touching moment.
'...You make me proud, mon fils. And your mother would be too.'
