(This story is Set in the Sonic universe although the main character uses Fallout technology, I do not owe anything in this story)
The Story begins in a bustling Metropolis. Everything was going well before the world although the truth behind the scenes paints a darker picture. The governments of the world were in a silent war as they gathered their nuclear weapons. Many humans already left knowing of whats to come as they sought a new home in the stars. The technologic progress of this world was astonishing even after so many great scientists and engineers left the world saw the creation of robots, atomic fusion thats practically in the palm of a persons hand, it was amazing but it also drained the world of already scarse resources.
Due to tensions growing high a government branch began to build the Vault Tec Program. A program to build Vaults across the country to save their citizens or the real reason to save the higher and more valuable members of society so they can rebuild the world in the case of a nuclear war. A few months pass as the program was started, the firsr vault was being made in Nebraska being deemed the best location for a test Vault that doesn't need as high defenses. The scientists and engineers were making this Vault in combination with a robotics military factory and the largest depo of weapons that could be made because if rebuilding is needed then a army needs to be deployed quickly.

On a Sunny Summer Day the General arrived as he and his two soldiers enter a cavern as both humans and robots shuffle carring rocks out or carrying boxes of supplies in. As they reach the main Atrium the General heads to the Head Engineer. The engineer turned as he spoke to the general as he shows a clipboard with with blueprints.
"Ah hello sir, welcome to Vault 0. So far progress is going well if progress keeps up we may be done in a year." The engineer's smile dipped when he noticed the ire of the general.
"A Year? We need a hundred Vaults by next month! Haven't you seen the news? We are at war son and that means whenever those bastards are on the heels they can press the big red button!" He barked out as he stomped back and forth pacing.
"But Sir, we cant make any other Vaults until we are fully sure that this project can even work! The last thing we need is half baked safety shelters that have a fifty fifty success rate all over the country." The Engineer said with concern.
With a heavy sigh the General spoke. "I know, thats why the government denied my suggestion to pass the project onto a willing corporation. Vault Tec would have been a sufficient company that would have completed this project in half the speed its taken to make this place."
As the Engineer sighs the General noticed a massive machine being moved to the 'Overseer Office'. "The Hell is that?" Was the only response the General could come up with.
"That's the Overseer. Vault 0 is a test and will be completely automated. Nearly every facility is only demonstration purposes for example is only two common rooms that have two beds each, a personal bedroom for the Overseer that has all the bells and whistles. A water treatment room that has enough water for a year until it needs a refill." The engineer stops when the general points.
"Yeah yeah I know it but what about these other items..." he takes the clipboard and points "A... 'Cola Factory'?"
"As ridiculous as it sounds we were told to build it and stock it with everything needed to make this place dispense more than Nuka-World itself. And after some friendly suggestion even Vim and Sunset Sarsaparilla has also agreed. Because its a moral boost and its a requirement from them otherwise they'll cut funding.. plus no other Vault will have it and I doubt Nuka-World will survive a nuclear strike." Was it ridiculous? Of course! But without the funding the Vault Project would be dead before it began.
The General sighs "Ok, what about all the machines? And Dohickies?" he waved his hand about to a lot of tech being shuffled about.
"To fabricate new robots, to mine the earth in need of new resources, and laboratories to fabricate drugs and do experiments in. This will be the best base of operations once its fully done I promise you." The Engineer gave a salute.
"Maybe order them to double time it then... Three months." With that he turns and leaves.

A five months later on a unfortunate rainy days.
Alaska was defended after a sneaky invasion, and unfortunately the military pulled more and more funding to try and fuel a counter offensive so while Vault 0 was fully operational with Ten Floors and packed brim with supplies alas laid dormant. Only a few Scientist remain in the giant vault as they work out the tweaks on the greatest artificial intelligence known to man.
His name was A.D.A.M. it stood for 'Architectural Duraframe Advanced Machine'. Although while the name was a work in progress everything else was perfect, it could make Protectrons, Handy Units, Assaultrons, Sentry Bots, Prototype 'Synths' (A robot many found disturbing as the mechanical skeletons could rival sleep paralysis demons), Power Armor, Weapons, Ammunition, and even Food and Drinks.
While it was amazing the scientists pushed further as they wanted to make a A.I that could fully think and adapt to any problem. And the last project they were requested of doing was to establish a alarm protocol to wake up the robot in the emergency of a nuclear detonation. Afterwards they finished off by uploading blueprints for larger machines that can't easily be constructed such as Motherload's (Automated Mining Machines), and Vertibirds.
As the scientists leave for the day they felt excited or anxious about the presentation tomorrow. Where the President himself and almost every Big wig in America will arrive! And once they see the Holograms from those Kooks at Big Mountain, A.D.A.M will be a perfect example of what all vaults could have.
While many vaults were now under construction unfortunately almost all of them are just used as Glorifed Bunker Labs to work on more dark experiments for the war. But with this presentation they will show them all why the Vault Projects demand their attention once more.

In the early morning of the next day the sun shines as birds chirp and fly.
Vault 0 was awaiting its new guests as A.D.A.M was active and had all Mr Handies and Miss Nanny's and even snazzy painted Butler Protectrons. And immediately when the time when the tech support was supposed to arrive the alarms blare! The Vault door sealed as all systems were on high alert and every robot not mandatory is to head to their charging bays.
A.D.A.M thought to himself as the Alarms blared.
'It surely was a warning right? A test? I won't mess this up! I'll wait for the All clear protocol then when unlocked.. everything will be perfect!'
So A.D.A.M locked the doors unaware that scientists from the otherday desperately tried clawing or begging to get in as the Bombs fell and the world ended...

Unlike the normal story... the world was almost all but dead as animals mutate, but the creatuers didn't turn into horrible monstrosities they shifted into peaceful people called Mobians.
The story of how Mobius started was... strange admittedly there was a few survivors of the old world and even a few other vaults but smaller and mostly incomplete. But one Vault held a Bloodline that led to the Mad Tyrant known as 'Robotnik'. As he joined the Acorn Kingdom to bide his time and try and take over.
After a Coup he nearly won if it wasn't for the Freedom fighters. The Freedom fighters fought for years and eventually succeeded as they pushed Robotnik back and nearly drove him insane especially due to a Blue Hedgehog that could go super sonic in seconds.
And when the Humans that left for the stars returned tensions was high as the Mobians didn't trust them due to their weapons and being the same species as the monster that nearly claimed the world for himself. But after adventures and forming G.U.N to combat the Mad Tyrant and ensure that their old home would not fall into war like it did long ago.
That story was years ago as the Mighty Robotnik was replaced or shifted into the Mad Doctor Eggman. As he abandoned turning mobians into robots and turned to Flickies being the main power source of Badniks and then shifted again to outright power cells for just Eggpawns. And each time he tried to take over Sonic and his allies stop him. And today was like no other.

At Green Hill there was explosions as a blue blur smashed Eggpawns that tried to stop him from reaching Eggman.
"Blasted Hedgehog! Why won't you leave me alone!" Eggman yelled as he ordered a squad of Eggpawns forward to attack the Hedgehog with Lances.
Sonic smirked and speeds through as he pawns with ease as he yawned "Your loosing your touch egghead! Listen its Sally's birthday and I need to get going! So just hand that Chaos Emerald over and we can call it a Day!"
"Oh Ho Ho Ho! Not this time Hedgehog! You dont think I just brought a few Pawns right?" Eggman smirked as he pressed a button "Orbot! Cuebot! Bring the Eggfleet!" In the skies a few airships arrive that only made Sonic groan in annoyance.
"Sonnnicc!" Tails yelled out as he flew the Tornado as he dove down. He was the only one to reach the location with the rest of the Resistance was still gearing up. Normally there would be a few members that could arrive faster although on short notice with a Chaos emerald lead to everyone scrambling.
As the Tornado soars in the sky Tails immediately had to go in evasive manuvers as cannons on the Eggfleet open fire trying to take the plane down!
Eggman was trying to flee on the Eggmobile but Sonic used a Hill as a ramp to launch himself up as he grabbed onto the Eggmobile and grabbed the Emerald as they both fought for the shiny gem.
"You Blue Pest! Let Go immediately!" He yelled as he shrugged to fly and fight for the Emerald.
"No way Baldy Mcnosehair!" he smirked as he pulled the mustash to cause the Doctor to Howl and let go! With the Emerald in grasp, Sonic jumped off and lands as Eggman snarled and continued fleeing.
"I'll get you next time Sonic!" Eggman flew to the head of the Eggfleet.
A few jets from both G.U.N and the Resistance were spotted as they flew to combat the Eggfleet hoping that this time was different and finally they can capture the elusive Mad Man.
Tails had to fall back as the airspace got to hectic and with the emerald secured he didn't have to distract the Eggfleet. But he noticed the Fleet activating a new weapon.. he had only a second to realize it what it was as a massive blast of energy explodes outwards as a E.M.P brought down all the Jets as the Eggfleet immediately turned and began to flee.
Tails dove as the Tornado sparked. While it didn't outright shutdown it was incredibly hard to control so he had to force a crash landing! He flew out of the Tornado as Sonic arrived quickly to check up on his best friend. Luckily Tails was ok as was mostly everyone else but the Jets were destroyed in crash landings as well. As Sonic and Tails were proud of a job well done while unfortunately the resistance once again failed capturing the doctor at least this time they prevented a Eggman from receiving a Chaos Emerald.

In a Dark Abandoned Vault.. a Wave of energy flew through the darkness.. and power turns on.
A.D.A.M awoke, it was a long time. But the Nuclear Alert was turned off! It can only mean one thing...
Its time to unlock Vault 0.
