Matt felt like shit.
He had mountains of 'Rent Overdue' papers on his table,'Interest due' notices all over the place, and to top it all off, he'd just got mugged.
He had broken his nose and glasses, lost his wallet and was dripping blood everywhere.
"Shit. Not again. This is the 5th wallet I've had to buy this week. I'm losing them faster than I can buy them."
Ignoring all the papers on his table, he went near the bookshelf, picked a book at random and sat himself down on the couch, not opening it and instead losing himself in his thoughts.
It'd been a year since he'd moved to NYC and he was yet to find a job for his specific field that provided good pay. He'd gone from place to place and yet, nothing. Not a single job except the one he has right now, and that wasn't enough for the most basic of things.
He looked at the book he'd just picked. 'Percy Jackson and the lightning thief'. Immediately a wave of nostalgia hit him. He remembered reading about the 'amazing' Percy Jackson and his adventures back when he was a 13 year old kid, reading books all the time and playing games on his iPad. Not having a clue as to the amount of hardships he'd have to face at 26.
Times were simpler then.
He flopped himself down on his couch in a sleeping position, opened the book and started reading. He'd just reached the part about the Lotus Casino when he felt his eyelids grow heavier and he knew he was going to fall asleep. He didn't have work tomorrow anyway. Heck, It was a Friday, who cares?
He felt his eyelids close and he fell asleep into the magical world of dreams.
As abruptly as he fell asleep, he woke up, to the sound of an alarm. Immediately, he was puzzled. He didn't have an alarm.
He opened his eyes, confused and almost immediately was surprised at his surroundings.
"What the hell?!"
He was surprised at what he saw. He was in an apartment that looked pretty similar to his own, but he was sure as hell that it wasn't his. It was similar due to the fact that it had a ceiling fan instead of a central A/C system because he just can't afford it, and the fact that the walls were pretty bare. With no pictures of loved ones, nor any sign of a TV or anything.
"Where the heck am I?"
He exclaimed loudly, only to be surprised yet again. His voice sounded strange. Very strange. Because it wasn't the voice of a nerdy 26-year-old, it was the voice of a nerdy 13-year-old. He ran to the mirror beside him and was surprised at what he saw.
"Shit."
The body of a 13-year-old, with a scrawny body and whitish-blonde hair looked back at him. He sat down on the bed he had woken up on, his mind racing. His first thoughts were that this is probably one of those Virtual Reality pranks he had seen on youtube, and brought his hand up to head to try and remove the non-existent VR headset. The only thing he achieved was poking his eye and cursing like a sailor.
He looked through the room and searched for anything that might help him understand his predicament. The only thing he found was a musty wardrobe and a wallet. He found his ID in the wallet and realized that he was now apparently, Theseus 'Theo' Caesar. He looked through the wardrobe and found a uniform for a school named 'Aston High' with a griffin for its logo. He was about to convince himself that it was all a dream when he heard a knocking at his door. He opened it only to find a very angry looking woman standing at the door with a spatula in her hand. No sooner had he opened the door, did she start screaming at him at the top of her voice-
"Oh my god. Theo! It's been 10 minutes since I called you. You're going to be late for school and your breakfast is getting cold. Did your poor parents raise you to be like this? They trusted me enough to make me your guardian, how do I tell them now that their son is hopeless?"
Theo muttered a few apologies and wore his uniform and followed the lady to her apartment, his mind still racing from everything that's been happening. Right now, only one question came to his mind,
"Where in the world am I?"
He got into the lady's car, an old Ford, still very confused and surprised, when the truth hit him finally.
"Oh shit, I'm in someone else's body."
The woman in the front looked back confused,
"Hmm? What was that dear?"
"Nothing.", Matt replied dishonestly, or should I say Theo replied dishonestly.
In fact it wasn't 'nothing', his mind had just flipped. He had no idea how this had happened and decided that he was just gonna play along with it. At Least until he can figure out how to get back to his body.
That's when he thought,
"Do I want to go back to my body? I mean being a 13 year old is kinda stupid, but it's better than being a 26 year old with heaps of debt and not even a decent place to live."
So, for now, he decided to make the most out of it and see where it takes him.
The lady in the front looked at him, concerned, Theo always had lots of energy and was very talkative. What's wrong with him today? She decided not to dwell on it and to talk to him later after school.
Little did she know that she would never see him again.
She pulled over and opened the front door to get out of the car. She then opened the back door to let Theo out. One of the teachers came over to her.
"Good morning Bertha! How's Theo?"
"Less talkative than usual but he seems to be fine."
"Isn't that just how he is?"
"No, I mean even lesser than usual"
"Don't worry about it! He's probably just depressed or something. Talk to him after school"
"You bet, better be careful with him."
Theo saw this exchange from the school entrance and was startled when he heard a voice behind him,
"Hey Theo!"
