Kathleen Wells was caught up in her morning beauty routine at the moment. She wanted to ensure she looked extra nice for her coffee date with her new friends, Mag Masters and Leta Morgenstern.
Again, even with the multiverse under siege, all the Ancients agreed the only way to defeat the ex-Ancient was to forge strong bonds of friendship. So today, she'd be having coffee with Mag and Leta in their reality.
So naturally, she wanted to look her best. She finished taming her curly locks and applying a thin layer of makeup. Kathleen typically preferred her natural look over using makeup. However, this was a special occasion again. Therefore, she could stand wearing a little makeup this time.
She checked her outfit to make sure she looked presentable. Today, she'd chosen to wear a beige tunic shirt, denim jeggings, and a few pieces of jewelry her friends had given her on their previous visit. Which included a golden cross and a crystal bracelet to help balance her emotions and reduce stress.
Finally, she felt she looked perfect. So she headed off to her bewitched doorway and turned the dial to a new color added just for the day. She then entered the world of Mag and Leta.
She found herself standing outside a colossal castle doorway. It was like something out of a fairy tale! She noticed the groundskeepers working diligently to maintain the flowers and everything else on the grounds.
She knocked once and smiled when Mag opened the door. Again, Magdalene Masters had a most enviable figure and outstanding beauty in her own right. Just like her best friend, Leta was also quite beautiful.
Today, Mag was wearing a light yellow sweater and lavender slacks. She, too, wore her cross necklace and looked positively perfect. She smiled her angelic smile before embracing her new friend in a loving hug.
"Kathleen! So glad you could make it! I'm afraid my husband isn't here, and the children are at school in the Ghost Zone. So it's just the three of us," she explained.
"That's fine. After all, we all agreed today is about us having a girls' day. So shall we go to the coffee shop to have it?"
"I'd love to. We'll be taking Leta's car to avoid attracting too much attention," as she turned to her biracial Jewish friend. Leta looked like the character Leta Lestrange from the Fantastic Beast movies. She even sounded like the character.
Today, she wore a simple magenta long-sleeved shirt and faded jeans. Her smile was infectious. "I'm thrilled to see you again, Kathleen! So let's go to best coffee shop in the world! Brook Brew."
Leta's car turned out to be a fully restored vintage cherry red Camaro. She said her parents had given it to her for her 18th birthday, and she took excellent care of it.
They arrived by 7:45 a.m. at the coffee shop just as the morning was rushed. Leta went to the counter to order their drinks and bagel sandwiches. Twenty minutes later, they're enjoying their breakfast sandwiches.
"These are quite tasty, don't you agree? Even though I'm a great cook in my own right, I still think these are quite delicious," Kathleen informed her friends.
"Well, they sure know how to brew the perfect coffee, that is without a doubt," Mag replied. Then, after wiping the crumbs off her lips, she asked what everyone wished to talk about.
Mag was fair-minded and knew you should let people talk about what they wanted. It is important to listen even if you're not into the topic. Everyone has the right to speak about what they like occasionally.
Leta agreed that Kathleen should go first. The beautiful woman bit her lip before explaining what she wanted to discuss. She explained she'd been browsing on Reddit and came across the subreddit for the historical drama series "Downton Abby."
She admitted she'd gotten the complete series and movies a few months ago after one of her neighbors suggested it. She also had to acknowledge that some people took things too seriously or entirely ignored the time period and would use modern-day standards instead of the early 20th-century ones.
One thing people argued about all the time was the sisters Mary and Edith. Trying to argue with one was the bigger bitch or disliked more. So Kathleen expressed her thoughts on the matter.
She felt Mary's personality stemmed from the weight of exceptions put on her from being the eldest. That she acted cold and aloof to hide how much pressure she was under or her insecurities and doubts.
She also pointed out that Edith suffered from middle-child syndrome and didn't have the best judgment regarding love. It didn't help she had a thing for older guys—two of them who had been married.
But she didn't like people trying to compare either sister to who was the worst. For one, some siblings aren't close. Also, this rivalry had likely been going on from early childhood, and they didn't know how else to act with each other other then trying to one-up the other.
Also, given they're mostly raised by a nanny having little interaction with their parents growing up, its not like their parents had much influence in their formative years. So yes, both had done bad things.
But people should remember again that they are just characters at the end of the day. They're trying to write them as flawed characters, whether good, bad, or indifferent. Both made mistakes, and both had been involved in a scandal affair.
Being an aristocratic family where reputation is everything, plus how society was in the 1920s? There were just some unwritten rules they all had to follow, and either way? Again, it wasn't a competition of who was the worst sister, but accepting both were flawed.
"That is the first time I've heard anyone actually sum up the truth so well. Yes, it is true not all siblings get along. Also, plenty of siblings compete for attention and bragging rights. It's very normal," Mag agreed.
"Yes, why do people just hate fictional characters for being portrayed like actual human beings? But praise them when they don't act human? It makes no sense!" Leta added as she sipped her coffee.
Kathleen took a deep breath before asking carefully, "Leta, how do you feel about the growing conflict in Israel?"
"I don't like war in general. I greatly dislike how much hate and strife fills the hearts and souls of mankind these days. It's rather disgusting, to be honest. So yes, I wish there wasn't any war to begin with."
"I wish politician actually did their jobs instead of misusing the powers they're given to serve themselves. Our country is likely to fall into disarray soon due to the pride of individuals who only look out for themselves and not the country as a whole," Mag pointed out her fears for their future.
"Yes, the world is a messed up place. However, I think we can also agree that children should be allowed to be children. Even if some of our children are half-ghost, they shouldn't be forced to play hero," Kathleen pointed out.
Based on several movies and cartoons, they all knew that being the hero never worked out in the character's favor. Seeing how they missed out on having a normal life and enjoying themselves.
Relationships were nonexistent, kid heroes failed school work since they couldn't study, and the general just missed out on the small things that made childhood worthwhile. They discussed a few more things before agreeing to go shopping and get their nails done. All in all, the three friends' friendship was indeed getting stronger.
