Hi there!
Due to the frequent Devil attacks, there were plenty of neighbourhoods in Tokyo that were condemned over the years. As the city grew and expanded, it became much cheaper to just let the too damaged areas fall further into ruins appropriately called Haikyo.
That didn't mean, however, that these places were abandoned.
In fact, plenty of people came to live here. Criminals, addicts and all sorts of rejects that had no other place to go to found their new home in the ruins and slums. If there was anything that all the people here shared, it was their refusal to just let the society grind them to dust. Whatever they had to do, they would make a new life for themselves here.
Sadly, most of the abandoned neighbourhoods rarely ever grew into something more than the slums.
In the end, everyone living here was still a victim to their own vices. The drunks kept drinking and the junkies kept shooting up. The only ones who ever made any kind of life for themselves were the petty gangsters and wannabe Yakuzas who took advantage of everyone around them. They didn't care if their victims were women, elderly or sick. They even went after children if they could squeeze a few extra coins from them.
Denji knew that from experience.
Ever since his old man died, the bastards he owed money to came after him. His days were spent begging on the streets for money or looking for any work he could get. Being a kid who barely knew how to read or write, his options were nonexistant. If it weren't for Pochita, he would have killed himself already. Hunting Devils was dangerous but it paid a lot.
It was just too bad that the yakuza bastards took pretty much everything he made.
"Just a few jobs like this and I might buy some eggs."
Walking through the slums he grew up in, Denji carefully put the few coins he managed to earn into his pocket. He was about to enter the shack he called home when he noticed something amazing.
"Oh my God..."
A five-thousand yen bill.
He couldn't believe it. He had a whole fortune just lying at his feet!
"Got you!"
He pounced at the note, drooling at the idea of all the food that he could buy with this. The stupid gust of wind took it second before he could touch it. Pochita barked in excitement and Denji felt the same. He was not going to beat something as stupid as nature keep that money away from him!
And so the boy and his dog chased after the bill deep into the woods.
Until they stumbled upon the abandoned temple grounds. Nobody has visited this place in years and the plants have overtaken the temple completely. The columns were covered in ancient symbols that warned intruders of danger and evil that this place contained. Each carved kanji was a warning and a plea to leave this place immediately.
But Denji didn't care about the temple or anything here at all.
"Pochita, look!" Denji pointed at one of the statues. And, more importantly, the five-thousand yen bill that ended up stuck to it. "Our treasure!"
Any reasonable person would say that climbing on top of the statue of a God would bring bad karma. But Denji was not a reasonable person. And he never heard of the concept of karma. So all he saw in this statue was an obstacle to the money that would buy him and Pochita the biggest feast of their lives.
"Haha, got it! We are going to eat like kings, Pochita!"
In his excitement, Denji slipped. Instinctively, he latched at the closest object to him, which just happened to be the statue.
The statue of the Nine-Tailed Fox.
"Ah, fuck!"
Or what used to be the statue of the Nine-Tailed Fox.
"Shit, I hope this wasn't expensive."
Denji looked around, wondering if anyone saw him break the thing. Thankfully, it appeared that his crime would go unnoticed. Now then, it was time go back home and plan out their meals for the next month. With this huge windfall, he could definitely allow himself to splurge on something like eggs or even milk!
"Well, well, well, look at this guy here."
Denji turned to the sound of the voice, surprised by the sudden appearance of another guy. He was taller than Denji. His blonde hair and blue eyes made him look like a foreigner. His fox ears and whisker marks on his face made him look like a Fiend.
He instinctively started guarding the bill.
"So you break my statue and don't even apologize? The hell is your deal, asshole?"
"Who are you calling an asshole?" Denji sneered. "And I didn't break anything! That statue was just like that when I got here."
Ha, that was a perfect lie.
"I saw you break it, though."
"No, you didn't!"
Another perfect deception. Sometimes, Denji was impressed and terrified by how smart he was.
"And who are you. anyway?"
The blonde man smirked.
"I am Uzumaki Naruto," he spread his arms with a wide grin. "The God of Change!"
...
Yeah, that made sense.
"I am not joining your cult, dude. Whatever it is."
"A cult? I have thousands of followers, you brat. Why, you are standing in the middle of one of my biggest temples!"
Denji looked around, wondering if that temple was hidden somewhere in this dump. Naruto did, too.
"Okay, the hell happened to my temple?" Naruto yelled in Denji's face. "What happened to my temple?!"
"How should I know?!" Denji yelled back. "Maybe they moved?"
Naruto was a patient and whimsical God. As the God of Change, he didn't get angry or upset when something around him changed. Change was a part of life, after all. Change was what helped things grow and turn into something better.
He just never experienced a change he didn't know anything about.
He closed his eyes and tried to connect to the other Gods. But as he reached towards the Heavens, he found not a single of his kind answering his call. It wouldn't be the first time he was given a cold shoulder. The other Gods didn't love change for it questioned their might and standing. An invention of a new cure threatened the God of Diseases. A change in diplomacies could weaken the God of War.
Even back then, hated or ignored, Naruto could still feel the presence of the Gods in the skies above them.
But not anymore.
The Heavens were silent.
"What is your name, kid?"
"Denji. What is it to you?"
"Could you tell me more about this world of yours?"
"No."
Naruto looked at the brat, wondering just what his deal was. Very well, then. He wasn't as arrogant or entitled as to demand something from the boy without compensating him.
"You seem to value that piece of paper in your hands a lot," Naruto raised his hand, letting a few stray leaves fall into his hands. Waving them through the air, he turned them into copies of the paper in he saw in the boy's hand. "I will give you these in exchange for telling me everything you know."

Among the Devil Hunters, Makima was considered a living legend. A brillian young woman who was already a head of her own Division and a real beauty, to boot. Those that had the chance to work with her even once all sang praises about her and expressed the desire to transfer to her Division the first chance they got.
Above all that, not a single soul in the entire group has ever seen the woman's perfect face twist or break in fear. In fact, no matter who Kobeni asked, nobody could recall ever seeing Miss Makima make any expression but the same serene smile she was wearing every day.
So why was today different? Why was Miss Makima scowling?
Shaking in her seat, Kobeni could only look at the redhead boss' expression in hopes of figuring out just what got her so mad. It was just so weird, too. They were just finished with their latest Devil and Miss Makima seemed just as calm and happy as usually was. They were riding back to the office in complete silence when her expression twisted in anger and fear.
Was her? Did she do something wrong? Oh God, she couldn't lose her job! If her parents found out, they would put her out on the streets. She couldn't go and work as some prostitute!
"M-Miss Makima?"
The woman turned towards her with a cold smile.
"I-Is everything alright? S-Should I jump out of the car for you?"
Stupid! Just what the hell was she saying?
As Kobeni mentally cursed herself out, Makima's eyes focused on the evening skies.
Nobody, not even her sisters, remembered the times before Chainsaw Devil. Not a single soul on Earth or in Hell could remember the world as it originally was. The world where Gods ruled above the men and protected them from the Devils.
She could faintly recall the days when she cowered at the mention of the Gods.
They were beings above Death Devil himself for they were never alive, to begin with. They slaughtered Devils by thousands and humanity moved according to their will. They weren't tied to the concepts like the Devils were. Instead, they ruled over the ideas and thoughts without any weakness or limit.
Then her hero, the Chainsaw Devil, came and fought them.
That brave and merciless Devil slaughtered his way through the skies until Gods' blood rained down on the Earth and made its oceans. The Gods' bodies fell from the skies and their bones became mountains. Their final dying breaths became the winds.
And when the Hero of Hell devoured the God of Gods, the very presence of them was erased from the very universe.
The Gods were dead.
Or so Makima believed.
I can feel one out there.
Ever since she came into existence, Makima knew no equal to her power. Without fault, everyone fell under her spell. It was one of the main reasons behind her drive to find Chainsaw Devil. She desired nothing more than to finally find an equal to herself.
But whoever this God was, they were not her equal.
They were a threat to both herself and her beloved Chainsaw.
She would find this God and strike him down herself.
Whatever it cost her.
She swore on her pride as the Control Devil.

"We are rich!" Denji cried out in the forest, literally rolling around in a pile of bills. "Pochita, we are rich!"
Seriously, if he knew that there was someone out there that could make money appear out of thin air, he would have broken a lot more statues. Oh Gods, there was so much money in his hands now! He could buy everything he ever wanted.
He could buy meat!
"Man, I am going to buy a whole cow with this!"
It was genius! He could buy a cow and then he would have both meat and milk!
While Denji was planning on how to spend all the money Naruto conjured up, the newly-awakened God could only look at his broken statue. He couldn't remember how he ended up in this seal or why.
Despite their frequent conflicts, the other Gods were still his friends and family. They wouldn't do this to him.
The Devils lacked the power to contain or seal any of the Gods, too. They were little more than the monsters born out of the humans' fears. They weren't strong or skilled enough to take him down.
And humans would never do this to him or other Gods. Despite their disagreements, all Gods still cherished and protected humanity. And in return, the humans worshipped and listened to their guidance.
So why...
Why were the Gods gone?
Why were the Devils running free in this world?
Why were Humans ignorant of the truth about the universe?
"Hey, Denji?"
"Yes, my God," Denji said with a deep bow. "Anything else you wish to hear, oh your richness?"
Naruto was never a big fan of the worship. Despite being a God, he felt much more comfortable being friends with humans rather than ruling over them. And if this world had lost its Gods, he could do things his own way.
"Just my name is fine," he chuckled. "Do you mind if I stay at your place for a while?"
He tossed up a few pebbles and turned them into jewels.
"Money is not the issue."
"Of course! I can even kiss your feet if you'd like!"
Ewww.
"No thanks," he gave the boy a smack to the back of his head. "Never suggest something like that again."
With that, the boy, his dog and the God went on to live together in a small and dirty shack.
Lying on the roof the shack, Naruto looked at the quiet skies. He was a God of Change. His mission was pushing things forward and helping the universe grow and transform. And yet, he could feel someone's chains shackling the life itself down.
The air was heavy with stagnation. The humanity's growth has grinded to a halt.
He was going to break the hold of this evil on the world.
As for the monster that took the Gods away from the humanity?
He would find them and take them down.
"Arf!"
Pochita looked at him cutely, wagging his tail in excitement.
What a cute little dog.
"Don't worry, Pochita," he rubbed the little pup's belly. "Whoever took the Gods away will pay."
Whatever it cost him.
He swore on his pride as the Last God.
Poor Naruto, the monster that killed your kind is right there! Kill it! And so here we are, a year from the canon events with Naruto the God of Change thrown into the mix.
Originally, I planned Naruto to be the God of Chaos but I wanted him to be more of a supportive and fatherly figure to Denji. No worries though, he is still a trickster at heart and will not be all too serious all the time.
Now then, romance~!
I am still working on what pairings I am going to make here so any suggestions are welcome!
Hope you enjoyed this prologue.
Don't forget to review and share your thoughts!
Till next time)
