Titania enters the throne room, seeing the duo of royals seated on their chairs as they look down at the captain. Though King Puff was a mix of relief and genuine concern. But as the tension rose in the room, Queen Angelica spoke up first.

Angelica: "Your disturbance has caused quite a stir in my castle. Those peasants breaking out of jail, illegal use of my equipment… And releasing you before you were ready to serve your queen. How truly tragic."

Titania: "The only tragedy here is a queen who's forgotten how to rule a kingdom. In the name of Meropis, I aim to stop you here."

Angelica: "Is that so? You'll find that task to be quite… impossible."

As the two girls stared each other down with glares sharp enough to pierce Mobius itself, king Puff finally spoke up.

Puff: "H-Hold on now! Angelica, my sweet, you know me to be your ever loyal husband. But for once, I must take a stand! This has gone too far! Perhaps we can just talk this out…?"

Angelica turns her head slowly to her husband, a glare causing him to start sweating. She then places a hand on his head.

Angelica: "Oh my dear, sweet King… The time for talking has passed. And so has your time."

Angelica then unleashes a fierce lightning strike from the hand on Puff's head, zapping him as he started to scream, much to Titania's horror. The pufferfish couldn't even inflate to defend himself. His limp body was then lifted from his chair and tossed out of the room like trash as the doors slammed shut. Titania turned back to the queen, now sure something was off. Despite all her actions up to this point, she'd never actually harm her own husband like that. Pointing her bident, Titania finally asks the million dollar question.

Titania: "You are not Angelica… Who are you, imposter!?"

Angelica stays quiet for a moment, then starts to giggle… which turned into manic laughter, her sharp teeth on full display as she laughed. Then as she calmed down, her eyes opened to black sclera eyes instead of the normal kinds.

Angelica: "Do not be so quick to judge. I am Angelica… But I am the darkness she locked away deep in her heart. The evil that was unlocked by the true ruler of this world. The omega. The End."

Titania: "The… End…?"

Angelica gave a manic smile as darkness enveloped her, changing her outfit from the normal red dress to a black short skirt and top, her midriff now bare. Black leggings appeared on the queen's exposed legs as arm length, fingerless gloves appeared in place of her sleeves. As the darkness disappears, a remade Angelica reveals herself, a much deeper voice accompanying her own.

Angelica: "I am Angelica, the bringer of darkness in the name of The End. I shall drown this world in his salvation to feed his endless hunger."

Titania: "...Over my dead body you will! Your master will have to go hungry forever more!"

Angelica: "Oh… A poor choice of words, my dear."

Angelica then summons her trident as she prepares herself for direct combat. Titania immediately strikes at Angelica, punching her in the face… but this strike did nothing as the queen regenerates her wound just as quickly as it appeared. With a smirk, the queen then slaps the shark with her tail to send her back, then fires off a barrage of lightning strikes from her trident. Using the momentum of the slap, Titania backflips away from the lightning strikes and tries to avoid them. She then tosses her bident at the queen. But rather any dodge like Titania hoped, the queen just took it into her midriff, reeling back briefly before simply pulling the bident out, showing just how potent her healing factor was.

Angelica: "It will take more than a simple toothpick to do me in, child."

Titania: "What the hell…?"

Angelica: "Under his grace's power, I have been granted power beyond the comprehension of this world. And it is this power that shall envelope this world in true bliss. Allow me to demonstrate."

Angelica then points her free hand as she sends out a wave of darkness out at the shark. This wave does no initial damage, but Titania began to hear the voices that she knew all too well. Her deepest fears, her regrets… Visions of her crew, her friends… Everyone she knew dying right in front of her… She then felt a hard slash going across her back as she stumbled forward, the illusion vanishing as Angelica stood behind her.

Titania: "D-Damn it… I can't hit you… And you have that too…!?"

Angelica: "You walked into an inferno with no protection, dear. You have no one to blame but yourself. Truly heartbreaking… But at least you will die for a noble cause… As a sacrifice to his greatness."

Titania: "His "greatness" can go suck on a thousand lemons for all I care…"

Titania was putting on a brave face, but she knew the truth of the matter; she was greatly outmatched here. Angelica very easily saw through this charade of bravery and simply laughed.

Angelica: "That one attack from me was enough to nearly kill you and yet you have the bravado to stand against me? Simply foolish."

Titania growled before thinking. She needed to go all out; even if she looks like her, this being in front of her was not Angelica. Regardless of her feelings for the queen or Undina, she needed to stop holding back. With a roar, a sudden spout of water appeared over her as she became covered in some kind of watery aura.

Titania: "Fine! Then let me just show you! Aquatic Pressure! Great White Offensive!"

Titania then vanished as she sped at Angelica; the queen's changed to mild surprise at this motion. The shark then lands an incredible punch, which then split into about twenty in the span of a second, pushing Angelica away to the wall of the throne. Titania quickly closed the distance before she landed a knee to the queen's gut with a roundhouse kick, once again followed by a split of another twenty hits. This sent the anglerfish into the air with which Titania jumped even higher.

Titania: "Great White Finisher!"

Titania's watery aura started to focus onto her fist before forming into an actual great white shark as she descends upon the queen. With a final punch, the impact causes an explosion so mighty, the entire city shook from the shockwaves it produced. As the steam smoke cleared, Titania was seen holding the arm she used to punch, now singed into a charcoal black as she's left catching her breath. She turned to the crater created by the queen's impact with the floor, not seeing her majesty anywhere. Titania coughed out some blood, the wound on her back catching up to her, especially after using up her energy like that.

Titania: "S-Sorry, Undina… She… didn't give me a choice…"

Angelica: "Oh I wouldn't worry about that. I'm still here."

Titania is then stabbed through the gut by the trident held by Angelica before she is lifted up and tossed aside, each impact to the floor cracking it from the force she was thrown with. Titania coughed out more blood as she struggled to get up to her feet. As she looked at the queen, she sees all the damage she did with her attack get undone by the regeneration.

Angelica: "What's wrong? You look rather sad. Is it because you see just how outclassed you are?"

Titania: "F-Fuck… That was… my only shot…"

Angelica: "Aww… All out of steam? What a shame… Well, don't worry. Undina will make a better host to me anyway. A young girl like her? She will make a fine substitute… A fine harbinger for The End…"

Titania's eyes widen as her rage started to build up.

Titania: "D-Don't… you ever… TOUCH UNDINA!"

Angelica glares at Titania, annoyed by her level of defiance.

Titania: "I swore… an oath to my own soul… That I would protect her… To protect Meropis… And I never break a promise… Even if it's to my last breath… I will protect everyone!"

Angelica: "So pretty your words… Yet so very empty."

Angelica's scowl turns into a wicked smile as she raises her trident before firing another lightning strike.

Back in the entrance section of the castle, Sonic was fighting the soldiers of Meropis off by himself, using his speed to disarm and beat down the Mobian fishes of every kind. As he seemed to be getting swarmed, Rotor and Tails soon made their entrance, fending off more of the soldiers.

Sonic: "Huh. Bout time you guys showed up! You two take care of things outside?"

Tails: "Yeah, but then… This massive shockwave hit the Sea Fox and nearly caused us to crash!"

Rotor: "I have a bad feeling… Where's the captain!?"

Sonic: "She went to confront the queen by herself. She told me her reasons for it and… Like an idiot, I just let her do it…"

Rotor: "Don't beat yourself up over it, Sonic. That does sound like the captain; a stubborn brat who'll protect everyone she loves, no matter what."

Voice: "Sounds like she needs a crash course lesson on teamwork then."

A rain of bullets fired from above, hitting a large group of the soldiers and knocking them to the ground as Amy runs in and slams her hammer, sending a shockwave to send them flying back. Rei then lands from the sky, showing she was the one who rained down the bullet hell. As a group of soldiers ran to blindside her, a magic wall appears to block them as Aleena calmly walks into the room, surprising Sonic.

Sonic: "M-Mom!? What are you doing here!?"

Aleena: "Oh please, dear. You think your own mother wouldn't show up to help her own son?"

Sonic scratches the side of his head in embarrassment as Aleena just giggles. Julie kicked a few soldiers away as she hops in to join the group.

Julie: "Hate to say it, but I think we've thoroughly pissed off the aquatic hive."

Rotor: "No joke. Think we can handle them all?"

Sonic: "I know we can. And I do trust Titania… Despite what you said before Rei, I don't just charge in by myself. I do it to be a hero, yes. But I also do it, knowing that I'm never truly alone. I got this far because of my friends. Because of that, I knew what she meant on some level… She wants to protect her home, just like any one of us!"

Rei: "...Tch. You are a stupid kid… And that's why I like you."

Aleena: "That's my son for you. A hero, but at times a fool."

The heroes got into a fighting stance as they prepared for the fight of a lifetime.

Within the halls leading to the entrance section of the castle, Echo runs as fast she can through the empty halls. But she stops as she hears the sounds of footsteps. Then, as she readied herself for some hand to hand, she turned to find… Undina.

Echo: "P-Princess Undina… Your highness!"

Echo quickly bows to a knee, happy to see her princess.

Undina: "Echo. This is no time for formalities… Where is… Tani…?"

Echo: "...She… She's fighting your mother… by herself…"

Undina scowls before turning.

Undina: "No… She's fighting a monster pretending to be my mom…"

Echo: "Huh?"

Undina: "I… I don't have a lot of time to explain… But I was never kidnapped like "mom" or Striker would lead you to think… You know Titania would never… I left because… My mom was not like who I thought she was… Her actions… Her words… Even her voice… They carried nothing but unfamiliarity to me… She was a monster wearing my mother's skin… And on top of the brine overflow in the Brine Rivers…"

Echo: "B-Brine overflow!?"

Undina clenched her hands before starting to dash off in the opposite direction from where Echo was heading. Echo reached out to her, calling out to her, but she was already gone… Then Titania's voice rang in her head…

Titania: "And keep Undina safe for me… Okay?"

Echo: "...What am I doing just standing here? The… The captain gave me an order… To protect Princess Undina… And I said I would…"

Echo then ran after Undina, heading back towards the throne room.

Back within the throne room, Titania, despite how strong her will to fight back was, was being tossed around the throne room, without much room to counter. The possessed Angelica was enjoying toying around with the weakening Titania.

Angelica: "You've gone quite silent, dear captain. Have you lost the ability of speech?"

Titania: "...I… refuse… to… g-give up…"

Titania was tired… She was bleeding all over her body… She barely had the strength to even stand as she forced herself to keep up. Angelica, though, only shrugged her shoulders as she readied her trident for the final blow.

Angelica: "Defiant till the end. I suppose you have that going for you. Too bad… it didn't end in your favor…"

Voice: "STOOOP!"

Angelica pauses as she turns her head to see… Undina, having bursted through the doors.

Angelica: "Oh… It's you…"

Titania: "U… Undina… R-Run… L-Leave…"

Titania started coughing more blood, her body finally giving out as her vision started to blur and the voices speaking becoming nothing but faint noises.

Undina: "Titania!"

Undina ran at Titania, but is stopped by a lightning strike from Angelica who then descends upon her "daughter".

Angelica: "I'm sorry, dear. But you were not invited into this little disagreement. Do kindly leave… or you will force my hand."

Undina glared at her "mother" before a bident is tossed at Angelica, hitting her trident aside, causing her to lose focus. She turns to the entrance to find Echo had entered.

Echo: "In the name of Gaia, I will fight even you, Queen Angelica to protect her highness!"

Angelica: "You dare to defy me… Then your life is forfeit!"

Angelica fires off a barrage of lightning bolts at Echo, forcing her to start dodging. Undina looked at Echo before nodding and moving quickly to Titania.

Undina: "Please be alive… Please be alive…"

Undina felt Titania's heart, but… There was no pulse. Her eyes grew wide as she tried CPR, trying to get her friend to breathe. But it didn't work. Tears welled up in her eyes as she started to panic. But she calmed herself and began to softly sing.

Titania felt cold… Empty… As if her very life was gone… An afterlife that awaited her… But as she floated in this endless darkness, seemingly to drown in her own death… A voice called out to her…

Borea: "Hey, kiddo."

Titania: "Mom… Why do I… hear you…?"

Borea: "Are you giving up? Just like that?"

Titania: "I… can't win… Every hit I land… Every strike… never truly matters…"

Borea: "That so…? Do your friends feel that way about it…?"

Titania: "My… friends…?"

More voices started to fill the void. One after another. Voices of whom that matter to her…

Sonic: "Yo! Don't let that monster win! You got this!"
Rotor: "Once our captain, always our captain!"
Crew: "C'MON, CAP'N! YOU GOT THIS!"
Echo: "We're in this together!"

But one voice stood out amongst the rest… This one being accompanied by a bright light.

Undina: "Please… Don't leave me… You can't go…!"

Hearing Undina's voice, the bright light shining above Titania, the shark coughed awake before swimming towards the light.

Titania: "I'm… I'm… not… dead… YET!"

Undina was trying her best behind her tears to save Titania through her song. As she was beginning to lose hope, there was a stir, then a hand touched her face.

Titania: "Hey… Undina…"

Undina: "T-Tani… You're alive…"

Titania: "...Thanks to you. You saved my life… twice over…"

Undina placed her hand on Titania's before gently smiling. But then an explosion brought them back to reality as Echo was struggling to keep up with the dodge game. Angelica slams Echo's head to the ground as she grabs her, but the dolphin manages to slap the anglerfish's trident out of her hand.

Angelica: "You truly believe I need a weapon to finish you? You must be joking."

Titania: "Yeah. And it's hilarious!"

Angelica turns and gets slugged in the face by a mighty punch from Titania, forcing her to let go of Echo as she drops to the floor. Titania then picks up the queen's trident as she glares at the monster.

Angelica: "Fool. Do you never learn. Your power means nothing to me."

She says as… the wound from the punch doesn't heal. Titania smiles as Angelica's expression changed from confident to fearful.

Angelica: "Wait… What's happening!? Why am I not healing!?"

Titania: "What do you say, monster? How about Round 2!?"

Echo and Undina stare at Titania as she points the trident at Angelica. The angered anglerfish fires off lightning from her fingertips, with Titania unleashing her Aquatic Pressure to avoid the lightning. Once she was close, she slams a hard roundhouse kick to the false queen's face. This sent the queen flying across the throne room, smashing into the chair for the queen, breaking it to pieces as Angelica bounces and rolls on the floor.

Angelica stands as she grits her teeth, catching a fist aimed for her face as Titania gets right into her personal space. She then slams her own fist on the shark before tail slapping her back. But Titania quickly recovers and slams her head onto Angelica's own, causing the floor underneath the queen to crack from the pressure.

The queen was stunned for a moment before she lets out a roar, letting out a storm of dark energy as she sends Titania flying back from the force. She then sends electrical storm after electrical storm after the captain. Titania gets shocked by some of these storms, but she quickly starts using the trident to above their electrical properties, before sending that exact same electricity back.

Titania made a quick strike to Queen Angelica, punching her in the gut before the monster caught the girl's trident arm and slapped the weapon out of her hands. A back and forth of attacks landed from both parties as neither truly wanted to stand down, like a deadly dance between good and evil.

With a final punch in this back and forth, Angelica is left bouncing on the floor before skidding to a stop, angered as she glares at Titania.

Angelica: "D-Damn you… DAMN YOU! Why are you not dying!? You dare to defy your fate!?"

Angelica grits her teeth before turning to Undina and Echo. Then a smile crept to her face.

Angelica: "So be it… THEN THEY WILL DIE FIRST!"

The false queen turns her attention to fire lightning at Undina and Echo… But her body suddenly pauses. It wasn't hesitation - something was holding her back.

Titania: "Huh…?"

Real Angelica's Voice: "Please… You must finish this! I can… only hold her for so long… Please!"

Titania was shocked to hear this voice for a moment, but she cleared her mind and clenched her fist. She then concentrated her power into her Great White Finisher as she charged at the false queen.

False Angelica: "No… Stay back! You filthy cretin!"

The fake queen unleashes a storm of dark energy to push back against Titania and her incoming attack.

Titania: "In my hands, I hold the ones I love!"

Walk forward through the cold dawn

Titania pushes through the storm as she reels back her fist, with the false queen looking on in pure terror, begging for her life. With one final strike, light is poured into the dark creature, causing to scream as she is swallowed and vaporized down to the atom.

Always to new horizons

A bright light explodes into the entire throne room, blinding Undina and Echo as the light engulfs both Titania and Angelica. Undina looks back before calling out to both of them, standing with tears in her eyes as she was unsure of both their fates. But within the light, a figure is seen holding another, descending to the floor slowly. The light slowly fades as it is revealed to be… the real queen, Angelica, holding the unconscious Titania. Undina is scared at first, until Angelica slowly extends a hand.

Angelica: "Undina… My sweet… Our hero needs you…"

Her soft tone, her genuine sweetness behind the voice. Undina could recognize it. Letting the tears flow, she runs to embrace her mother. Echo held her arm as she stared with a smile on her face. While Angelica was very happy for the embrace…

Angelica: "Um… Undina…? I can't hold Tani and hug you at the same time…"

Undina: "U-Uh! Oh! Sorry, m-my bad!"

After a quick heal through the song of healing, Titania finally opened her eyes before sitting up. As she sat up, a worried Undina is quick to hug her. Titania returns the affection before turning to the queen.

Angelica: "Are you quite alright, young one?"

Titania: "...Your majesty… Is that truly you…?"

Angelica: "Yes… Thanks to you, I was freed from my own inner darkness… A darkness that has long since plagued me… As queen of Meropis, I am in your debt…"

Titania: "...Not to interrupt the good vibes, but… I feel like we're forgetting something…"

The room goes quiet for a moment… then Titania finally remembers.

Titania: "Oh shit! Sonic's still fighting the soldiers!"

Angelica & Undina: "...Oh yeah. That is a problem."

At the entrance section, Sonic and his friends were starting to get tired as they saw they were no closer to beating the soldiers than they were five minutes ago.

Sonic: "Okay… How many soldiers are there in this stupid city?"

Amy: "I don't know, but I'm getting sore from swinging my hammer so much…"

Rei: "My guns are out. First time in a long time since that's happened."

Tails: "Wh-What do we do, Sonic?"

As Sonic was about to say something, a booming voice shouts to all the soldiers.

Angelica: "ENOUGH!"

The soldiers all turn and stand at attention, some even sweating as they knew what the booming voice meant. The heroes turn too to see Angelica, Undina, Echo, and Titania standing on the top stair, overlooking the crowded entrance hall.

Angelica: "Soldiers of the Meropis Royal Guard! Put down your weapons at once!"

The soldiers were… quite confused as they looked at each other. But then Angelica's booming voice shouted once again.

Angelica: "Did I stutter!? Drop your weapons at once!"

The soldiers finally complied, putting their weapons to the ground, as to not anger their queen. The queen then walked down the stairs, causing the soldiers to crowd into themselves to give their ruler room to move. Once Angelica was in front of the heroes, she gives a polite curtsy.

Angelica: "Apologies for the… incredible delay and rudeness that was thrust upon you, dear guests. If you are not feeling too displeased by how you were treated, I would be awfully pleased to have you over for some tea."

The heroes looked at each other before Queen Aleena speaks for them.

Aleena: "Queen Angelica. We would be honored to join you for some tea."

Angelica gives a most genuine and pleased smile as she claps her hands together. She then orders her soldiers to vacate the entrance hall so as to not crowd it or their guests. Once the soldiers were gone, the group left to another part of the castle to speak…

Within the rather chatty tea room, Some of the heroes chatted amongst each other, with Sonic, Undina, their mothers, and Titania sitting at a private table to speak on more serious matters.

Angelica: "It is with a heavy heart that I must apologize for all the hassle you were put through, Prince Sonic. You found my dearest daughter and… the "me" you were greeted with rewarded you with imprisonment. I cannot apologize enough…"

Sonic: "Eh, no skin off my tailbone. You weren't yourself, so I say water under the bridge."

Angelica: "And it is thanks to Captain Titania for all she has done for not just Meropis, but for my family… A fine young lady whom is raised by a rather honorable mother."

Titania blushes at that as she looks away.

Titania: "Well… I… Uh… I only did what was necessary…"

Aleena: "I must say, this darkness of yours… Was it truly always there, Angelica?"

Angelica looks into her cup of tea as she nods.

Angelica: "Indeed. It was small, but I did resent my kingdom at times. Mostly because the role of a queen leads to so many responsibilities that it becomes… difficult… to enjoy life. I never want Undina to feel that way when she becomes queen… So I'm only strict when I need to be. But that darkness was all that jewel needed to latch onto me and twist my desires into something truly wicked."

Sonic: "Hm?"

Sonic was mid sip into his tea as his ear perks up.

Sonic: "'Jewel'? That may need context, your majesty."

Angelica: "Oh yes… Around the time of Coral's acceptance as the priestess of Meropis' temple, myself and Puff went off to enjoy a nice vacation whilst seeing if Undina could handle the kingdom in our stead, with Captain Borea acting as her advisor."

Titania: "She offered. Originally it was going to be someone else. Mom's one of those soldiers who literally carries this castle on her back when she feels like it. All with a smile too."

Angelica: "And we always appreciate her hard work~ Ahem… But we came across this floating island far above the clouds. We were shocked but landed safely anyway. The island was such a paradise that we had wondered if this was someone's tropical resort. During our exploration, I found a hidden cave with a strange green jewel inside. When I touched it, nothing seemed to happen at first… But the local residents of the island, two rather young echidnas, immediately yelled at us to leave and never return. Rudeness aside, I suppose we did deserve that in retrospect… But ever since interacting with that jewel, slowly but surely, that inner darkness in my heart grew until… I was no longer in control of my actions… I could still see everything I was doing… But I could not act to stop myself…"

Aleena: "That sounds horrible…"

Sonic sipped his tea as his mind wandered a bit. Then he remembers what Kicks told him when he was on Angel Island…

Kicks: "Yes, this island is a paradise… But what it holds is a terrible secret that the world must never ever claim… A stone that induces madness, evil into the hearts of the pure. The stone that, while it glows bright, is filled with black malice… The Master Emerald…"

Sonic: "The Master Emerald… Sounds like I need to pay Knuckles a visit soon enough…"

Undina: "Something wrong, Prince Sonic?"

Sonic: "Huh? What? Oh… Nothing. This tea is delicious, your majesty."

Angelica: "I'm glad you like it. They are a Chun-nan Archipelago specialty."

Undina: "Um… Mother? I would like to make a formal request."

Angelica: "Hm? What is it, my dearest?"

Undina: "If it is okay… I wish to join Captain Titania's crew."

Titania does a spit take at that as she coughs a bit.

Titania: "Ahem… Excuse me, but say that again?"

Undina: "...I want to be apart of your crew. And join you on your many adventures. It's the least I can do to thank you for saving my mother."

Titania: "...I-I… Well… I-I could… Um… Q-Queen Angelica…?"

Angelica says nothing as she sips her tea quietly, hiding a cheeky smile behind her cup.

Titania: "I… Sure…"

Undina: "Yay! Thank you, Tani!"

Undina then plants a loving kiss… on Titania's lips. She went from red blush to red body quick as she just… flopped onto the floor, knocked out from the kiss.

Sonic: "Boy. She acts like she's never been kissed. She's, like, 17, right?"

Undina laughs at that assumption.

Undina: "Tani is 14. And that was her first legit kiss~"

Sonic: "...Whoa. Yeah, that'll do it."

Aleena: "I remember your first kiss with Sally~ You practically melted the snow around a 4 foot radius with how much you were blushing."

Sonic: "M-Moooom! No one needs to hear that!"

The room starts to laugh as things truly started to calm down for everyone.

In a time of history, Meropis was unknowingly housing a dangerous monster within its own walls, which sought to destroy it and the world around them through an act of war. However, thanks to the efforts of Captain Titania, Princess Undina, and Lieutenant Echo, the monster's plans were thwarted. The War of Meropis had closed its doors, not on a bloody section of the history books, but on a sunny outset as the true Queen of Meropis was returned to them. History would claim a drastic change in Meropis and a changing point for the world of Mobius. Where it will go and if it will bring the downfall of Robotnik is to be seen.
