Here's the next chapter for Mysterious Magic. And in this chapter, you'll all get one big question answered regarding 'certain' family relations. The one some, scratch that. Most of you have been going on about a lot lately.

Chapter 5
Convention
Right about now a few days had passed since the incident at the Owl House during the Boiling Rain storm. Since then, nothing's really been going on, and thanks to Evan's restoration magic, the house was easily repaired from all the damage's from his mothers cursed form.
Since nothing was going, on, they setted up the human goods booth to try and made some money for the day. While they were waiting for potential customers, Eda was dusting stuff off while Evan was rearranging some of the merchandise they had.
As for Luz, she was reading King one of her Azura books: " Emboldened by the dishonor Hecate had shown, Azura lifted her staff to the cotton-candy skies and shouted, "I challenge you to a Witch's Duel!" And look! I drew a flip book. Pew, pew, pew! " In the corner she did just that.
" Show me the picture. " King requested wanting to look at it.
" What? "
" Show me the picture! " The canine repeated his request and Luz granted it showing him it. " Hah! I can draw better than that." He replied in a smug tone. " You know, they once called me the King of Artists. "
" Wait. " Luz raised an eyebrow. " I thought you were the King of Demons. Are you just making this up now? "
" Yes he is. " Evan chimed in.
" Doesn't matter. " King replied not caring a bit. " What's important is that my followers would leave me offerings in fear of me! "
" Well, I can offer you more of this tantalizing book. " Luz offered.
Both mother and son groaned out loud in annoyance. " Please stop reading that! It's flowery language is insult to witches, warlocks alike. And it's driving away all our serious customers! " She said swatting her lightly with the feather duster.
Evan chimed in. " As much as I agree with you on the book, mom. There's just one problem... " He gestured to the blank street that was bare with no life, not even the rodents were out and about. " What customers? There hasn't been a single person walking through here in hours! "
" And there aren't even any other stands around either. " Luz added. " What's going on? "
" This is a bad omen. There must be something horrible happening today. " Eda said in a fearful tone.
" Luz! Evan! " Right on que a familiar voice was heard making them turn to see Gus and Willow running up to them. " Something amazing is happening today! "
" Gus! Willow! Hey! " Luz greeted her friends.
" Oh really? And what would that be? " Evan questioned.
" It's the annual convention! " Willow held up a flier. " Student witches and warlocks get see all types of covens before they're placed in one. There's even a mystery guest this year! " She said excitedly pointing to the two words at the bottom of the flier.
" A job fair for magic users! " Luz exclaimed excitedly and leaned up against her mentor. " Eda can we go? "
" Absolutely not. " She anwsered making her groan sliding to the ground with a thud. " I never joined a coven for a reason. Sure it's like a fun club for witches, but your also giving up your magical independence to be part of a crooked system! "
" Mmm... " Willow hummed at that thought.
" Eh, but you know, no judgement. " The owl lady said.
Evan scoffed lightly. " Don't worry about it...It ain't their fault for blind to the truth... " Evan grumbled the last sentence. " Plus what reason do I wanna go? It's not like I wanna join any of them either... "
" See, even my boy gets it. " She then looked away pondering in thought. " In any case, I haven't been to one since we were girls... "
" We? " Luz said from the bottom making Eda realize what she did.
" I-The-I mean- " She stuttered only for her student to shot back up.
" Who's 'we'? " Luz pointed to Eda. " You have a mysterious past! Now we gotta go! "
" No. "
" Evan, can you back me up here? " She asked innocently with a puppy dog look.
" Nope. " He gave her response with a non interested look.
Luz gained a smirk. " Okay. Then you both leave me no choice. " With a motion, King started reading the book outloud.
" No... " Evan silently breathed out as the torturing began.
" 'You shall not shan't doeth no more harm,' Azera callethed out... " He began reading out loud much to their displeasure.
" So flowery, so awful... " Eda said as King continued reading while Evan pulled out a pair of ear mufflers smiling in content glad he didn't have to hear the canine.
As for Eda she was using the trans dimensional door as an escape. " 'Hecate could only screech, screech as did she...' " Luz picked him up and threw him into the door as it closed turning into a suitcase. Only moments later it reopened into a door with Eda coming out.
" Stop it! Stop it! " The owl lady yelled out as King continued reading on top of her head. " I will literally do anything, just to stop this! "
Minutes later they arrived at the convention center making Eda groan loudly pinching the bridge of her nose. The Owl Lady's son gave her a flat look.
" You did say anything. This is on you. "
" Don't remind me...Now help me out here. " Eda attempted to put her cowl on. But do to the amount of hair she had, it was difficult. Evan sighed as he helped her out. " Gotta keep a low profile. " Using his magic Evan got it over her head while Luz grunted pushing the rest of her hair into the cowl.
" Is this cowl really necessary? " The human teen asked helping them out.
" Uh, yes, it is. " Evan said as he put on himself and pulled out a random masquerade mask for extra measures.
" You think all our wanted posters are for petty theft? " Eda asked as multiple items fell out of her cowl onto the ground.
" Nope, just mainly you. " Evan said.
" Okay, so I do the thieving. " She started picking up the stuff stuffing them back into her cowl. " But, the big whammy is that me and my husband disobeyed the law and refused to join a coven. And for not taking my kid to school. If I'm seen, I could go to jail. Again. "
" And let's make sure this time, that don't happen. " Evan said with a hint of annoyance in her voice.
" Maybe this informative event will inspire you both to join a Coven. " Willow said to her only for the owl lady to make a small spell circle pulling the hood over her face.
" Sorry Willow, but that ain't happening. " Evan said pulling it off of her.
" Let's just get this over with. " Eda said very much not thrilled with this whole ordeal going on. They then went inside, and Luz was amazed at what she was seeing.
Their were different booths all over the place with different drapes hanging from the ceiling their were even, Witch's and Warlocks flying through the air on broomsticks.
" Whoa...Was I even alive before now? "
" Those are the main nine covens. " Gus began to explain as they walked inside. " But there are hundreds of other ones you can join. "
Willow began to list off the ones she knew. " There's Flower Coven, Artist Coven, Big Dog Coven, Small Cat Coven, Tiniest Cat Coven- " She was interuppted by Eda's groan of annoyance.
" Also, the Grumpy Coven. " She whispered but Eda heard her.
" What was that!? " This made Willow yelp as she and the others ran forward.
Evan meanwhile stayed behind. " Mom, will you chill out? I ain't enjoying this either, but come on, were supposed to keep a low profile. "
" Uh, excuse me, ma'am. " They turn to a bald warlock. " But you look rather familiar. " He noticed one of Eda's wanted posters and his eyes widened a bit in realization.
" Uh...No I don't. " Eda quickly replied making Evan sigh in annoyance making a small spell circle putting his hand through it and grabbed the mans attention waving his hand out slowly. " The bathrooms that way. " He jabbed his finger in another direction.
" Thank you. "
Eda smirked at what his son just did. " Thanks kiddo. Where'd you learn that? "
" From dad. But the spell only works on those with weak minds. " Evan replied as they caught up with the others.
" Ooh, what's that? " Luz points over to a large grey bearded warlock wearing a hard hat and nearby the head from the conformatorium was watching him.
" That's the Construction coven. " Willow anwsered as they watched him take two pallets full of materials throwing them into the air. And just like that, a small house was built in just seconds. " One of the main nine. They use power glyph's to increase their strength. " They now watched as the warlock took off his hard hat revealing a small stack of stickers. After putting it on, he tore off the plastic and slapped it on the heads nose.
But that proved to be a mistake causing her to do something straight out of Dragon Ball. " Ha-a-a! " She threw the warlock into the air. " I'm destroyer of worlds! " She then began to go on a rampage.
" Hey that's the opposite of construction! " A worker protested as he and others tried to stop her.
" Yowza-wowza! " Luz exclaimed.
" You can say that again. " Evan agreed before a pale blue copy of her did.
" Yowza-wowza! " This took her by surprise.
" Yowza-whaa? " They all watched as the copy walked over to two students bearing the same color as Gus. Their insignia was a mirror, the copy waved before disapearing.
" Ah! You've been taken in by the allure of the Illusionist Coven. " Gus stepped forward making his own blue magic circle. " We like to magic with a hint... " He poofed into smoke before reppearing again. " Of showmanship. " He did a bow and his two fellow members appeared right behind him.
Evan gained an almost evil grin making a spell circle behind his back. " That's not all Illusions can it do... " Right on que a large hideous monster with lots of eyes and razor sharp teeth appeared behind them and roared scaring them before it poofed making Evan chuckle lightly. " It's also good for pranks. Zing! "
" Wow...acceptance? Comradery? Accentable belonging? " Luz listed off. " Covens sound incredible! " She turned to her mentor. " Eda, why haven't you ever joined one? "
" Watch closely Luz. " She made her apprentice look at the Illusionist's booth. " When you join a coven, all your other magic is sealed away. " One of the members put their hand on one of their newest members. It left the covens mark, causing blue markings to spread all over the kid leaving him kind of pale.
" From now on, that kid will only be able to make illusions. Since I never joined a coven I can do every kind of magic. " She showed off by making an orb of fire in one hand and an orb of water in the other before dispersing them. " That's why I'm the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles. " She said leaving the kids in awe while Evan chuckled in amusement as they continued to follow her.
All except for King who was stopped some random hand.
" Wha? " He turned to see it was witch wearing a hexside uniform, her long sleeved shirt and stockings were purple.
" The tea leaves foretell. That this will lead you to your destiny. " She twirls a pen in her fingers and places it in his paws. It was from the Fortune Tellers Coven.
" Destiny? Huh! I'm not paying for- "
" It's free-e-e... " She said eerily backing up doing pistol motions with her hands.
" Are you bestowing gifts upon me? " The canine got excited. " Yes! I accept your offering! The King of Demons is back! "
Meanwhile with the rest of the group they saw a whole bunch of people walking to a panel in particular. It's flag was a triangle covered with markings, a sword with wings and an orb in the middle. There were other drapes of birds all perched on branches facing the opposite direction of each other. And there were also six figures wearing white hoods and silver bird like masks.
" That panel looks popular. " Luz commented from the way it looked making Gus gasp in shock.
" It's the Emperor's Coven! " He turns to Willow. " You think they'll sign my forehead? "
" Only one way to find out! " They both ran forward and Luz joined them, but stopped seeing that her mentor and roommate weren't.
" Aren't you both coming? " Luz asked.
" No way! " Eda replied. " Out of all the covens, there the worst. We'll wait out here. "
" I get it. " Luz put up her hands showing she understood. " Covens: bad. Individualism: good. But I'm still figuring this world out, so I'm going in there to make up my own mind, okay? " She headed in.
Evan hummed at what she said, while Luz made a good point, she didn't fully understand at all. Only moments later he cursed and dragged his mother towards the entrance.
" What are you doing? "
" Just go in and suck it up...We got problems... " He he nodded his head to the side and she saw the same guy from earlier talking to a guard holding up her wanted poster.
" Oh... "
They were now in what appeared to be a large old fashioned theater, but for some reason it had the feeling of an arena as well.
" Alright let's see this mess. " Eda said as she and Evan took a seat next to Luz.
Luz leaned to his ear. " Why'd you change your mind? "
" Don't ask. " He replied as the lights started dimming down, meaning the show was about to begin.
Down at the arena, a green energy pillar emerged and from it came Principal Bump who gained a spot light. He then made a small magic circle making a mike with small bat wings appear.
" Hello, Bonesborough! Students ask me all the time, 'Principal Bump, what's the height of magical achievement?' "
Up at the stands on said student nearby spoke up. " Is it this? " He made his own spell circle and pretty soon his freakin head got so big it couldn't be held up and tilted over getting his fellow classmate.
Bump winced at this. " Wow. I failed you as a principal... " He grabbed the mic. " It's being selected to join the best of the best. And there are none better than the jewel of the coven system, and the enforcers of His will, the Emperors Coven! "
Three soldiers from earlier emerged making the crowd give a round of applause leaving Luz amazed by their entrance. She then waved over to her friends who were both pointing to the autograph Gus got on his forehead.
Bump continued speaking. " Feast your eyes on this elite force, each member hand picked to help usher in a new age of controlled magic. " Everyone watched as the three made their own spell circles shooting their own version of fire works that turned into confetti. While Luz was catching them, and Evan was swatting them out of his face, Eda leaned over to a random demon sitting next to her.
" When does that elite force get here? " She slapped her knee and laughed at her own joke, but the demon was clearly uncomfortable and scooted away from the witch.
The three soldiers then began to cast different spells between their palms. " Members of the Emperor's Coven have access to all-yes, all forms of magic. Oooh. Aah. " For some reason the crowd did just that. " But...Only the best can ascend these ranks. Some day that could be one of you! " He points to someone in the stands and that someone was none other then Amity who squealed in delight
Eda laughed at this statement while Luz wasn't expecting her to be there. As for Evan he clicked his tongue, shaking his head. The three soldier's then grabbed the corners of their capes and in unison raised them up before disappearing.
" And now, I'm pleased to introduce the esteemed leader of this coven, and this years mystery guest. You know her, you love her! Lilith! " Everyone gasped in shock and upon hearing that name Eda stopped laughing and Evan spit out whatever he was drinking.
From above, they all watched as branch made out of blue energy manifested. Perched on it, was a raven, it flew down and landed right near bump dispersing large amounts of it's energy. In the raven was a figure wearing a white raven mask, then this individual raised out her arms making the raven screech and turn into orbs and removing her mask in the process. She was revealed to be
a tall, slender woman with ivory skin, pointy ears, dark teal lips, long, indigo hair, and a big forehead. wears a long-sleeved two-tone dark gray dress and dark gray laced boots. She has dark gray claw-like nails and an inverted kite-shaped sky blue gem on her sternum.
Luz stopped her clapping and noticed the mother and son gained looks of surprise. " You two know her? "
Eda replied. " You could say that... "
" Yep...Unfortunately... " Evan said bitterly diverting his attention away making Luz all excited about their 'mysterious past'.
" Thank you, all. " Lilith made a magic circle sending her cape and mask flying towards Bump making him go away. " It wasn't easy for me to rise to the top. " She began to slowly pace. " I also started from humble beginnings. "
" Like me? " The kid with the big head asked but got no anwser.
" Now I have the highest honor of enforcing the Emperor's will. So be more! The Emperor's Coven awaits you! " With a twirl she made the raven from earlier reappear growing large and exploded into many orbs of light which the crowd loved.
All, but except for Eda and her son who glared at the leader of the coven.
Once it was over, Eda and Evan left with Luz right behind them.
" Eda, Evan! Where are you going? " Luz asked.
" I'm gonna head home and wash the con fog off my skin. " The owl lady replied clearly having enough of the convention.
" But we haven't even taken a quiz to determine our coven type! " Luz said raising up a book, only for Eda to create a small blast putting a hole in it. " Evan, are you interested? "
" No, I'm not interested. Not one bit. " He replied bitterly.
" I get that Eda, doesn't like Covens so why don't you like them? "
" First off, mom's has her reasons. As for me, I don't buy all of this. " He motioned to their surroundings. He then sighed shaking his head. " Luz, look this might all seem fun, but sometimes, there's a dark truth to everything... "
" What do you mean by that? " Luz was having a hard time understanding.
" It's just as I said...You haven't lived your whole life here... "
Luz thought about what he said but then her personality quickly changed that as her focus turned to the book. " Ooh, a punky potioness. " Not paying attention she bumped into someone and much to her luck it was Amity.
" Watch where your- " She stopped and glared at the teen. " Oh it's you...Willow's abomination thing. " She then looked to Evan giving him the same look. " And your that mutt. "
" Uh...Hey, Amity. " Luz greeted with a bit of embarrassment. " So, funny story. Not an abomination. Sorry for the confusion last week. "
" I'm not. " Evan commented getting an elbow from Luz.
" I-I'm Luz. The human. Hi! " She extended out for a handshake.
" Ugh. Put that away. " Amity declined the offer. " Because of you two I got into trouble with Principle Bump. And I never get in trouble. "
Evan chuckled in amusement as they followed her. " Well tough luck. You almost Luz dissected... "
" He is right, so- "
" You can't be here! " She turned to Luz. " This convention is for Witches only. "
" And warlocks. " Evan crossed his arms offended that they think everyone was just a witch in general. " Teachers pet. "
She turned to him. " What was that? "
" Aww, what's the matter, am I pushing to many buttons for your ego? " Evan was not intimidated and chuckled. " From the looks of things, you want to get into the 'amazing emperor's coven' right? News flash, it ain't all that good as ya think. "
She narrowed her eyes at him and quickly Luz chimed in. " Anyways! I'm learning how to be a witch. I'm receiving magic lessons from Evan and his mother who's a very powerful witch. Including a ferocious demon. "
Amity titled her head to the side. " Is that your ferocious demon there? " They both turned around to see the canine was wearing different clothes and holding a cupcake with two bakers behind him. " Cupcakes in my tummy-tum makes the King say yummy-yum! "
" Huh, so that's where he's been. " Evan commented.
" So will you join the bakers coven? " One of the said members asked as King chomped down on the desert.
" Hmmm...Nope! " He swipes a cupcake and runs up to his friends. " Oh, hey, Evan, Luz! Look at all of these offerings-Wah! " He ended up tripping on his long scarf, making him drop his cupcake. While both his friends went to check on him, they went out to grab his cupcake only for Amity to step on it.
" Oops. That was an accident. " She said with a smile not sorry for what she did.
" What hell is your problem!? " Evan snapped.
" Because the both of you and your pet are giving witches and warlocks in training a bad name. "
" I am not a pet! " King said as he scratched himself with one of his back legs with Luz putting him up against her chest.
" He's a very good boy. And the King of Demons! " Luz was now fired up. " I'll tell you what Amity... " She stands up to face her. " It's one thing to say I can't be a witch- "
" Cause you can't. " She bluntly said.
" But, it's another thing to bully my friends. Just like The Good Witch Azura said when facing down her rival Hecate at the Bog of Immediate Regret...I challenge you to a Witch's Duel! " Everyone gasped at that and Evan eyes widened in realization.
" Whoa-Whoa! Time out for a second! " He was ignored by the two and Amity walked up to Luz's face.
" I accept. Let's set the terms for this duel shall we? "
Luz spoke up her conditions. " One, if I win, you apologize to King for squashing his cupcake. "
" Good night, sweet child... " He said sadly picking up what remained of his treat.
" And two, you admit that humans can be witches and warlocks too. "
" Fine by me. " Amity said before setting in her terms. " But when I win, not only do you have to tell the whole convention you're not a witch, you have to stop training forever. "
" Do it Luz! "
" No! Don't be stupid! " Evan disagreed. " This ain't- "
" No! Do it for my honor! " King cut Evan off angering him and hit him on the head.
" Fine. Let's shake on it. " Hearing this made the warlock facepalm himself and hit the canine. Meanwhile Amity made a spell circle around Luz's hand and shook it.
" The ever lasting oath is sealed. " She informed her and letted go, the light went away.
" That's probably fine. " Luz said not fully aware of what it could do for her.
" Meet back inside the theater in one hour. " With that she walked off. " Let's see what kind of witch you really are. "
" Guy's...I-I can win this right? " She asked nervously.
King was munching on what he could eat and stopped. " Hmm? Oh, yeah. No. " He didn't have any sort of concern at all and continued to eat his cupcake and was once again hit by Evan hearing her whimper, very fearful of what was going to happen. As for the young warlock, all he could do was sigh in annoyance pinching the bridge of his nose.
" Give me a break... "
Meanwhile with Eda she was sneaking her way out. After a long day, she was now more then willing to get out of the Convention. Now that Eda knew 'she' was there, the Owl Lady had to make her escape. She trusted Evan enough not to get captured, and...
" Sister? "
Unfortunately luck wasn't on her side this time. The one who said that was Lilith doing some autographs for a few kids.
" It's been so long since I've seen you last! " She finished with another and walked up to her with the kids behind her. " What are you wearing? You look like some sort of trash collector. Oh, right you are. "
Eda was annoyed with that comment and decided to get even. " Oh, Lily. I just had to see the leader of the Emperor's Coven in action. " She kneeled down to the children's level. " You know, when we were kids, Lilith was so excited to see the Emperor's Coven, she peed a little. " This made the kids laugh while Lilith blushed in embarrassment.
" That-That's all for today. " Lilith gently pushed them them forward and waved them goodbye. Before turning around giving Eda a disapproving look. " You shouldn't even be here. You're a wanted criminal! " Her eyes widened at a thought. " Unless.. " She gasped in excitement grasping her little sister's hands. " I don't believe it! You are here to join the Emperor's Coven! "
Eda meanwhile chortled at this statement and broke down in laughter. " In your dreams! "
Lilith narrowed her eyes at her sister's response. " You think being convenless makes you so much smarter than everyone else. But while you run from the law like degenerate. I'm mentoring the next generation of powerful students into the world. "
Eda countered back. " Well, I have a student. And I bet, she and my boy could wipe the floor with any of your prissy little blue bloods. "
" Is that a challenge? " Lilith got up to her face locking eyes.
" Oh, it's a promise. " Eda replied not intimidated one bit.
Lilith groaned in annoyance " Honestly, even now, I always have a hard time accepting the fact that your a mother. You of all people. "
Eda raised an eyebrow in amusement. " What you jealous or something? "
Lilith's cheeks blushed a bit once again. " Absolutely not! " It was clearly a lie and quickly changed the subject. " And why are you forsaking his own great potential future? Think of the what good that could be used for the island... "
As Eda was gonna respond she was cut off by another voice. " There you are! " They both turn to see Evan running up to them, but primarily to Eda. But he was clearly tired. " Just... " He said in between the panting. " Give me...A minute...Lot's of...running...Phew. " He finally caught his breath wiping his brow.
" Okay, mom, we got a problem on our...hands... " He pauses and turns around to face Lilith and gains a frown. " Oh great. Here we go. "
Lilith smiled upon seeing her nephew. " Hello, Evan. I see you've been doing well. "
" Lilith. " He replied bitterly not using the 'A word'.
She ignored the way he spoke to her. " You've grown so much the last time I saw you... "
" Cut the crap. If I'd known you'd be around, I wouldn't've come. " He replied bluntly crossing his arms.
Lilith forced a small smile. " And I see that you still have that attitude...How have you been? "
" I've been better. "
" Oh, I see, how is school going for you? "
" I wouldn't know, because I haven't gone to any yet. "
Lilith glanced over to her little sister in annoyance. " Sister, why haven't you placed him in school yet? "
" I gave him a choice, and he prefers home school. " Eda replied shrugging her shoulders.
" Home school? " She was confused by this.
" It's a thing that humans do... " Evan chimed. " And it's a plus for me. That way I don't listen to all that Coven crap... "
Lilith groaned in annoyance. " What have you been putting in his head? "
" Just only truth. That's it. " Eda replied.
" Nope none of that. Personally, I just find this whole thing as a big waste of time. " Evan commented and darted a look to his aunt. " And it's not like I need some chump to tell me how to live my life. Unlike you... "
" Excuse me? " Lilith was offended by what he said while Eda laughed a bit. Ignoring her, he turned back to his mother.
" Anyways, we got- " He was cut off by Luz popping her head right in between the three, all taken by surprise.
" Eda I need your help, I accidentally challenged Amity to a witch's duel and I think she's going to kill me all the way dead! " She said in a very fast and nervous tone slumping down on her knees.
" So I'm guessing that's the trouble? " Eda asked
" Yep... " Evan sadly confirmed.
Lilith hummed in amusement. " It seems your student has met my strongest protegee. " She kneels down noticing a certain feature. " And look at those ears. " Luz flinched covering them up making her laugh. " Where did you even find one of these? Okay, Edalyn. " Lilith made a light blue spell circle and once this happened, all the wanted posters of Eda and Evan all disappeared. " For one day, you won't have to hide from the law. Because I want to see, how good of a teacher you really are. " Lilith walked off.
As for Eda she kneeled down putting an arm over her students shoulders. " Come on kid, time to prepare for some bloodshed. "
" But, who's blood? " Luz asked nervously.
" Anyone's guess! " Eda replied patting her on the back getting a look from Evan. " What? "
We now see Eda putting on a work out headband fitting it around her head. Since they only had one hour till the duel began, they had to come up with a strategy.
" All right, Luz. Let's start your training. " Eda cracked her fingers while her student was sitting on a box. " Now, I'm coming at you with a blast of fire. What do you do? " Luz's response was putting on her hoody and tilting down on the floor. " Oh, that's right. I haven't taught you many spells, huh? "
" No kidding. " Evan exclaimed sarcastically.
" Boy, I hope you didn't make an everlasting oath or anything. You'd be toast. "
Luz grew more nervous. " I-Is there a glowy hand thing that happens, or, uh- "
" Abomination. Rise. " She turned to see Amity practicing her magic under Lilith's supervision. A small abomination emerged groaning. It grabbed it's head and threw it hitting some random guy for the bakers coven. And nearby, the head grabbed him and threw him to the side before screaming doing another dragon ball gag.
" Ooh, boy. " Eda realized that her apprentice did.
" I can't believe I'm gonna have to stop learning magic! " Luz cried out in disbelief.
" Hey, it wouldn't be like this if you'd just listened and calmed down. " Evan said in a scolding manner. " But no-no, you got way to ahead of yourself, again! "
" I know-I know! You were right! "
" Listen to me, Luz. " Eda gained her attention. " We are not gonna let those snobs win that easy! We are not gonna let them win at all. I've got an idea. " Eda's headband suddenly snapped off
By now the hour had passed and just as they agreed, everyone met up in the theater.
" Beloved citizens, " Lilith did the introductions. " The Emperor's Coven proudly presents an impromptu demonstration of the sort of witch we seek every year. Introducing Amity Blight. " The crowd cheered away with a random fan holding up a big finger. " Versus... some human girl. "
Eda moved out of the way presenting her student who was still nervous making everyone gasp in shock and talk amongst themselves.
" Okay, go figure it'd go like this... " Evan hummed.
" Eda? What am I going to do? " Luz asked her mentor.
" Yeah, I was wondering about that too. The only thing she can do is use the light glyph.
" Calm down. You see those mounds? " Eda points to the said mounds that were scattered across the area.
" Get Amity to land on one of those and she'll set off my magic traps. "
" That's cheating! "
" Nobody will know. " Eda waved off what she said. " To all eyes up there it'll look like you're performing magic. Just trust me. "
" But I will know in my heart! Even if I win now, I lose. " Hearing this, Evan grabbed Luz by the shoulders and got awfully close making her blush a bit.
" Luz, do you want to either give up becoming a witch to fulfill your dream? Or do you want to feel guilt? " He asked a serious question.
" See, even Evan see's the point. " Eda said and just like that the bell started, screaming. The audience applauded and cheered as the two witches in training stepped forward to begin their duel.
Amity cracked her knuckles while Luz gave a nervous wave back.
Amity then made her spell circle. " Abomination. Rise. "
" Emerging from the circle was her slime like golem, but compared to last time, it was much more bigger then they saw before.
" Hmmm... " Evan hummed in thought already knowing something was off.
" Whoa... " Amity was clearly surprised by this to and smirked. " Show me what you got, human! "
" I'm not good under pressure! " Luz screamed as she ran avoiding getting flattened into pancake. The abomination groaned twisted off it's head and threw it nearly hitting Luz. " Whoa! "
Luz began to whimper as she had nowhere else to run, and the golem regained a new head walking right towards her. She then noticed one of the mounds Eda made, was right in front of her, and much to the teens luck, the abomination stepped on it, triggering one of the traps which erupted into a pillar of fire shocking Amity.
" How did you do that? "
" I, uh- Magic? " She replied back nervously.
Back in the upper stands King was scatting wearing a whole bunch of more clothing and hats. " Things that are free People are giving offerings to me! I love offerings! " He walked up to Willow and Gus. " What did I miss? "
" Luz is in a witch's duel! " Willow informed sounding very worried.
" Yeah! And she can win it all! " Gus thought differently. " Yeah-yeah! "
" Wha...? "
Back down, the fires were just put out and the abomination stepped on another mound sending it and it's master up into the air. While the golem fell, Amity quickly landed on her feet. " I-I saw you that time! You didn't use your hands! What are you getting at? "
" Not dying! " Luz replied back and ran away screaming as the abomination continued after her. While this happened, Evan motioned for his mother to come over. He covered his mouth whispering something into her ear.
" This I gotta see! " King was now trying to get a much closer look and slowly climbed down the seats.
" Go Amity! " Her fan cheered.
" Hey, you root for Luz or nobody! " The canine exclaimed before slipping on one of his scarfs and started tumbling down.
Back down, the abomination just stepped on a mound causing it to explode.
" How are you doing that? " Amity now wanted answers and slowly made her way to her opponent.
" No, Amity, don't step any closer! " Luz stopped her from approaching another mound.
" Why, Luz? " She raised an eyebrow. " What happens if I step closer? " She eventually got her answer because King landed on it. And from the mound a whole bunch of spikes erupted from the ground. Luckily for the canine, his clothing took the hit.
" Mmm? I'm okay! "
Both Luz and Evan looked back to Eda. " Spikes? "
" Seriously!? " Instead of looking ashamed she gave them two thumbs up.
" I knew it! " They turned back to Amity jabbing a finger at Luz. " You were cheating! "
" Amity- No! " Meanwhile Lilith kneeled down touching a spike that crumbled to dust. " Oh, Eda. I do believe this means you lose! " Her little sister groaned.
Luz tried to be explain. " It wasn't my idea to cheat. And when I found out, I tried to stop it, but- "
" Who could believe anything you say? " Amity snarled back before walking off. While doing so, both Eda and Evan spotted something on the back of her neck.
" Wait just a sec, Miss Protégé. " Eda said walking up to Amity stopping her and lifted up the back of her hair.
" Hey! What are you- " She felt something getting taken off her neck, and this happened, her abomination drastically decreased in size and was squashed by it's own head.
" A power glyph from the Construction Coven! " Eda identified what gave Luz's opponent such an edge while Lilith was looking in another direction.
Everyone gasped at the this new revelation. Amity to, had cheated, Lilith's best protége had also cheated in the witch's duel.
" Ah-ha! " Eda started to do a series of victory dances. " Yes, yes, yes-yes-yes! " She turned to her sister. " You cheated. Perfect, prissy Lilith cheated. Hot dang, I love coventions! La-la-la-"
" I only did that because I knew you would cheat! " She clearly had no shame at all
" Still cheated! " Eda was enjoying the moment. " Welcome down to my level! "
Amity herself was shocked by this revelation as well. " But... I didn't know! " She then ran seeing Luz walk up to her.
" Amity, wait! " She was ignored and so she and Evan gave chase only to get called out.
" Luz, Evan! " They turn back to King who was still stuck on the spikes. " Help me! " They both obliged and grabbed the canine's arms pulling him free but ripped his new clothes in the process. " My offerings! "
" You'll get more offerings, King. " Luz said patting his head like a mother would for her child before she ran off to go after Amity.
" Hey, wait for me! " King cried out and as Evan was gonna leave he turned to his mother who was still dancing in victory.
He shrugged his shoulders nodding his head. " Yeah, she's got this " He went off to catch up leaving his mother and aunt for most likely a big fight.
" Knock it off. " Lilith demanded growing annoyed with her antics. " You're making a scene! "
" You cheated! " Eda wasn't gonna let this go and stuck out her ear. " Hey, where's the Rhyming Coven? What rhymes with "cheated"?
" Stop acting like a child! " Lilith was continuing to get more annoyed with her little sister.
" You were defeated, don't get heated, get your stank face treated. " She rhymed putting Lilith near melt down level.
" Rhyme one more thing. " She growled in a very threatening tone. " I dare you!
" Oh, it's okay, I'm done. " Eda waved but she lied. " Because my rhymes are depleted! "
" That's it! " Lilith screamed summoning fourth her own white staff spinning it around producing blue energy and blasted Eda right into the theater's podium.
The audience gasped at this sudden turn of events. As for Eda, despite the hit she took, the owl lady grinned. " There she is! "
Outside Luz had just emerged with Evan right behind her. Both looked around for the witch before spotting her in a dark space right near the bathrooms, squatting down on the ground.
Luz slowly walked up to her. " Amity... I'm sorry. "
" As am I... " Even Evan felt like he needed to apologize, even though she was a bit of a bitch.
" Ugh, seriously? " She looked over to them both. " Just leave me alone. "
" We didn't mean to embarrass you. "
" That's all you ever do! " She was furious. " First at school, and now this! "
" Yeah, but- " Luz didn't get to finish cause Amity had stood back up glaring daggers at her.
" You made me look like a fool in front of the Emperor's Coven. My future! You think it's so easy to be a witch. I have been working my whole life to get to the top! " She stopped and flinched seeing Evan was going to slap her but instead she opened her eyes and he flicked her hard right in the forehead. " Ow! What are- "
" Will you just shut up for a minute!? " He snapped making her shush up and surprising Luz since she'd never seen him like that. He then calmed down. " It is true, Luz did cheat, and so did you...not intentionally. Once again, I'm sorry, and I mean it, even you didn't need to get caught up between my mother and aunt's rivalry with one another. "
Amity's eye's widened in surprise upon hearing this. He then continue speaking. " And yeah, I get it, you were humiliated. But you should also look at the facts, your supposed mentor, my sorry excuse for an aunt, used you for her own gain. There's also the fact, that you knew something was off with your abomination from the start... "
" Don't lecture me like I'm some little kid! " Amity snapped back. " I'll never get into the Emperor's Coven because of you two! Ever since you both showed up, it's been one thing after another... "
Evan shrugged his shoulders. " So what? "
" Huh? "
" Are you just going to throw in the towel just like that because it ain't going the way you want it to? Well, here's a reminder, it don't work like that. " He said bluntly letting the words sink in before continuing. " Life doesn't throw you a silver tray for an easy route to do it. And when it comes to magic, there is no short cut, it's obvious you've been training your whole life to become a witch, and you have a goal for it. But you don't need it to become a witch, you'll only get that reward through efforts. And so will she... " He motioned to Luz. " She might not be like the rest of us, but doesn't stop her, even though she's not a witch. "
Luz lowered down her gaze. " He's right, I'm not a witch. " She knelt down confusing Amity and watched as she brought out a small piece of paper and drew her light glyph. In curiosity she also got on her kness and watched as Luz tapped the symbol, crumbling up the piece of paper turning it into a light spear. She smiled picking it up. " But I'm training hard to be one. "
Despite being surprised by what she saw, Amity turned away. " That's nothing. A child could do a light spell. " Hearing this made Luz feel more down and made the orb disappear. " But... I've never seen it cast like that. " She admitted.
" It doesn't come naturally to me like it does for you and Evan, so I've had to improvise. " Luz explained the reason why making Amity sigh, making a spell circle and gently grabbed Luz's hand putting it through. A light was emitted for a second.
" The oath is unbound. " She got up and began to walk away.
" Did it work? " Luz questioned. " Can I still learn magic? "
" Humans have no magical ability. But I doubt that'll stop you. " She said looking over her shoulder and then gazed over to Evan. " And...Evan, was it? I'll think about you said... "
" Well...That happened... " Evan commented.
" Luz! Evan! " They both turn to see King running up to them, Luz knelt down to him. " You both left me! "
" Yeah, sorry. " Luz apologized. " Your legs are just so tiny. Should we get you more offerings? "
" Nah. That stuff just weighed me down. " King replied not caring. " But I have something for you, Luz. And it's the best thing, because it's free, comes from my heart, and I always have more than I need. "
Luz gasped at this. " Is it love? "
King made a look of disgust. " Ugh! No! " He pulled out a convention bag. " Tote bags! And they have so many uses! " He slumped over her arm and got inside like a chihuahua being carried in a purse. "Away, fair chariot! Away! " He commanded making Evan chuckle while Luz patted his head.
" We gotta go. " Eda said now joining them.
" So who won? " Evan asked
" Let's just say she had a real "snack attack." She laughed and snorted at her joke. " Wait, I got a better one. "
" Eda... Do you think I'll ever be a true witch? " Luz questioned.
" What? I don't know." She replied. " And who's a true witch and warlock? These suckers? According to them, that means being in a coven, but I never joined one and I'm better than all of them combined, including my husband. You gotta be your own witch Luz. "
"My own witch. " She repeated what her mentor said.
" Now, let's go before my sister realizes I tied her pointy shoes together. " They all heard Lilith scream in the background. " And that's our cue! " Evan laughed at what he heard as they all made their way to the entrance to leave.
" Sister? Now that's a mysterious past payoff! " Luz exclaimed as they got out.
" Oh, you think that's all the mystery I got? " Eda asked amusingly. " Wait until you hear about my parents. "
Luz was surprised to hear this. " What!? You've got parents? I need to know more! "
" You very much don't! " King chimed in.
" What he said... " Evan backed him up.
In the convention center Lilith opened the door leading to the dressing room. She tripped do to her shoes being tied together.
She grunted standing back up. " You make it so hard to want to help you, Edalyn. Even my own nephew is giving me trouble... "
On the desk was some sort of pendent with the Emperor Coven's symbol. It popped open making her gasp in surprise. The pendent was almost like a small communication screen.
On the screen was a female demon of diminutive stature. Her full-body frame is quite petite, having the size and appearance of a small child, although her hands and feet are shaped like bird talons, with red skin, large pointy ears, and dark red claws. Instead of hair, a large dark turquoise hand covers her head with light turquoise talons acting as bangs that cover her right eye. Her remaining left eye is round, with a dark-brown iris and a yellow sclera. This hand-hair ends in a hand-like bun tied at the back of her head with a black scrunchy, giving her hair the appearance of conjoined hands. Her attire consisted of a white robe with grayish-yellow highlights, a collar that obstructs her mouth with a yellow band going around her neck, and a triangular-shaped shoulder area. Beneath this robe is a dark gray tunic fastened with black wrist bands. Her name was Kikimora, the messenger for the Emperor's Coven.
" Lilith, I see you let The Owl Lady get the best of your temper. " She noted. " Just remember what Emperor Belos has promised to you. "
Lilith made a small gesture bowing her head. " I will capture her, ma'am. You have my word. "
" And the Devil Eye. " Kikimora reminded. " He is to be captured as well. You haven't forgotten yet have you? "
" No...I haven't. "
" Very good. " The demon did an eye smile as the screen turned black.
" Your days are numbered, Edalyn. " Lilith then gained a troubled look diverting her gaze away. " As for you Evan...I'm not so certain... "
Back at the Owl House the sun was almost out of sight and after a long day, it was time for everyone to relax.
Evan sighed in content slumping down onto his bed just getting out of the shower wearing his pj's. " This been a long day... " He heard a knock on his door. " Come in. " It opened, revealing Luz in her night wear, holding a towel to dry off her hair. " Oh, hi Luz. Do you need something? "
" No...Luz diverted her attention away for a moment and turned back to him. " Evan, I-I just wanted to say I'm sorry. "
" What? " He raised an eyebrow in confusion.
" I owe you an apology..." She sat down at the edge of his bed. " For making you worried, doing that stupid witch's duel in first place and I shouldn't have. "
" Well, apology accepted. But Luz, come on, it's done and over with, you don't got to keep hanging onto that guilt. "
" I know, but it still doesn't feel right to me for putting that pressure on you and Eda. "
Evan exhaled straitening himself up putting a hand on her shoulder with a smile. " And that's a good thing. "
" What do you mean? "
" Accepting your mistakes and not denying it. " He replied. " Were all not so perfect, and that's all right, as long as we learn from our mistakes. Know what I mean? "
" Yeah...That does make some sense. " Luz admitted understanding what he was saying. " Evan can I ask you something? "
" Sure... "
" What was your dad like? "
" My pops? " He chuckled lightly. " He was not only a powerful warlock, but he was the best dad I could ask for. While Mom, taught me some magic, he taught me everything I know. And he showed me his definition to being strong. "
" What's that? "
" He always said :There's no such thing as simple or normal. That's just the way life rolls, and through your own hard work, you can accomplish so much. But most importantly, have heart."
Luz smiled at what she was told finding the words of the warlocks father both wise and touching while at the same time being a bit realistic. " I defiantly would've loved to meet him. "
" Oho, yeah. He'd like you for sure. " After that was said a random cricket chirp was heard because things just got real quiet, very fast. Both were unsure of what to say next.
Luz broke the silence. " So... "
" So... " They were both trying to say something until Evan finally broke the cycle. " You want to watch a movie? "
She put a finger underneath her cheek and thought about it. " Only if you got popcorn. " Evan gave his response by pulling out a very large bag of it. Seeing this made her smile. " Also, I get to the pick the movie. " She said very quickly.
" What? Nuh-uh! I get a saying in this! " Evan objected as they began to have a big debate on what was the film of choice they would view. Unknown to them both, Eda just passed by the door with a smile, she heard the whole thing.

For the record, I'm not sorry for skipping Eda and Lilith's fight. We all know what happens. And yeah, some of you were hoping Evan would fight, sadly not this time.
But! That don't mean, you'll never get to see him fully in action during the last few episodes of the season. Not to mention, I'll be adding in some more additional content.
