Here's another chapter for Mysterious Magic, this chapter is one of the big turning points of the series itself, so hope you all like and enjoy it.
Chapter 11
Something Ventured, Someone Framed
As of right now Hexside comes into view primarily in one of the classrooms and something was going on. It was a club meeting was being held by the H.A.S, short for 'Human Appreciation Society'. There were at least only four members and as you'd expect Gus himself was the president.
" Behold. The wonders of the human realm. "
On the table were different objects and pieces of trash with names underneath each item.
There was a metal cheese grader labeled as a 'Nail Clipper'. A chip bag held closed by and old cellphone labeled as a "Whoopie Cushion. An old umbrella hat full of trash labeled as 'Food Bowl'. There was also a rubix cube which was considered a weapon, and then there was a paper clip. What they called it was 'pay-per-clorp'. One thing was for sure, while the club was very interested in the wonders of the human realm, they generally had no solid idea of what it was truly like. "
Gus proceeds to pick up the paper clip. " " This little fellow is one of their most valued objects. It aids in the compiling of printed wisdom, the scratching of gunk from under your nails, and my favorite...It even mimics the sounds of the human ocean. " He pulls it multiple times making it twang.
" Aah! The human realm. So beautiful. It's safe to say that the pay‐per‐clorp is a stunning testament to human ingenuity. Any questions? " Clearly the rest of his club members were board beyond hell. Some were fast asleep, and others were trying to stay awake. One of them raised there hand.
" Ah! Our newest member, Mattholomule."
" A‐Augustus, is this what the president of the Human Appreciation Society thinks passes as "Human Artifacts"? " He air quotes. Gus was clearly taken by surprise with the question as the warlock gets up from his seat with a smug expression. " Because at my old school... " He pushes the items on the table aside making Gus rush over to grab the 'treasures' narrowing his eyes at the new member. " We had real treasures. " From his bag, Mattholmule poured out some items of his own.
But a lot of them were clearly fake and crudely made, like a cellphone, which was actually a rock that had a key pad taped onto it. A human skull that was actually an egg with a sticker of a skull on it. Then there was a supposed 'sports foot' which was mostly crudely made.
" So real... "
" Wow! "
" I‐‐ I wanna touch them. "
" Go ahead. In my club, we didn't have any dumb rules. "
Gus gasped in shock before he gently carassed the paper as if it was alive. " Shh. He didn't mean that. " Gus then went over and took the fake items away from his club members much to their displeasure.
" Well, this isn't your club. " Gus remined his fellow warlock as he slammed down the fake boot. " Thankfully. "
" Exactly, who thinks I should be president? "
" I do! " The eyed head girl replied. " Mattholomule for prez. " The other female member replied. " I'm an undecided voter. " The one eyed male demon spoke up. " I wanna touch all the objects first. "
As they started talking Gus was starting to panic and then examined the so called 'celluar phone' and noticed something was off. " These are fakes! " The other club members gasped in shock making the owner of the items freak out.
" Y-Y-You can't prove that! " Mattholomule stuttered before making himself look presentable as he inhaled gaining a smirk. " You're just trying to distract these human appreciators. You're afraid of getting kicked out of office. It's your word versus mine. "
Despite having the smarts, having backbone was one thing Gus lacked. He was starting to grow nervous as he listened to his members talk among themselves slowly backing up into the chalkboard.
Looking over his shoulder he saw a picture of Luz, and instantly he gained an idea. " What if I brought in an expert? "
" Yeah, right. " Mattholomule wasn't buying any of it. " Who can you find that's a bigger human expert than any of us? "
Now it was Gus's turn to be confidant. " I know a warlock that has at least dozens of human treasures, and what if I told you that I know a real human? " Hearing this seemed to defiantly draw in the attention of the club members who sounded excited upon hearing this.
" Yeah. Uh‐huh. A‐And you've never brought your friends here. Why? "
Gus quickly thought up of an awnser. " Well, there both always busy. They got jobs. But I'll bring them both in tomorrow. They'll prove I'm right. "
Mattholomule scoffed as he sat down with his arms crossed. " Ah, sure you will, Augustus. " He challenged. " Sure you will. "
Meanwhile at the Owl House the gang was sorting out boxes that held all sorts of items from the human world. The reason why was because Eda figured it'd be best to get some more merchandise and with both Luz and Evan's opinion on human valuables she was willing to take every chance she could grab.
" Remind me again where all these boxes came from? " Luz questioned as she help sort out the items from the boxes earning a glance from Evan. " You already asking that? You already know who brought them here. " He said jabbing his thumb over to his mother.
" Hey, right now were low on money and we need to make more sales. " Eda countered. " Were running out of food. Otherwise, we'd stave. "
The one eyed warlock shrugged his shoulders. " Eh, if it comes down to it, I'll hunt or I'll eat King. " The said canine gasped in shock. " You monster! I thought you were friend! " Luz gave him a look but he only simply smirked and grinned meaning he was just messing around.
" Hoot-Hoot! " They're attention was brought over to Hooty. " Visitor! "
" It better not be any of my x boyfriends. I'm not in a good mood today. " Eda said as the door opened revealing it to be Gus.
" Oh, it's just Gus. " Evan was surprised to him as was Luz. " Hey, c'mon in. "
" Hi, Gus. What brings you here? " Luz asked.
" I...need a favor guys. " The young warlock said nervously.
" Okay... " Evan put down his box. " Small favor or big favor? "
" Big favor. " Gus quickly replied. " Do you think you both could come to Hexside tomorrow? I kind of promised my club that I'd bring you along. "
" Sorry, dude. But no. " Evan replied and went back to his box making Gus panic. " C'mon please! I need your help! "
" Gus, I'd love to go to school with you, but I don't know how I can. " She jabbed her thumb over to her banned poster hanging on Eda's framed wanted poster while Evan's was hanging on the corner of his framed wanted poster. " Principal Bump banned both me and Evan from Hexside. "
" But nothing. " Eda interjected. " Bump did you a favor. There ain't nothing for you at that dweebus factory. " Eda said firmly as she looked over to Gus. " No offense, dweebus. "
" It's okay. I come from a long line of dweebuses. " Gus said taking it pretty while Luz was frustrated as she slammed the box down onto the floor.
" Well, I would love to go some day. Better than unpacking boxes in the Eda Coven. " She said motioning to all the junk they had.
" Oh, you think you're clever, huh? " Eda questioned standing up putting her hands on her hips taking her students words as a challenge.
Nearby King who was sitting on the arm of the couch jumped over to a nearby box. " Ooh! Fight, fight, fight! " He was excited mimicking some punches in the air.
" Shut up King/Shut up King. " Both witch and her son told the canine as Eda continued talking. " " First off, it's the "Bad Girl Coven" and second off, I guess you don't want in on the T‐shirt order, huh? " She asked holding a small piece of paper with a little drawing of her that had a rockers vibe.
" I get where your going with that, but honestly mom. No, and don't forget, I'm a guy so how would that work? " Evan questioned with a raised eyebrow.
" Eh, I'll think of something. " She replied putting the drawing away.
" I don't care about T‐shirts, Eda! " Luz said in a pleading tone and motioned over to Gus. " I want to learn magic, and they teach that at Hexside! "
" What about Evan? He's been helping you. "
" Which is something you haven't been doing. " Luz countered back.
" I mean, yeah, well- " The owl lady grunted in frustration and began to walk to the door. " I don't wanna hear another word about Hexside, unless it's "Hexside is on fire" and "let's grab front row seats"! " She said before closing it.
" Aw, look what you did. I'm gonna go rub it in. " King said as he jumped off laughing away as he went out after her while Luz sighed as plopped down onto the couch.
" Evan, what is your mom's deal with Hexside anyways? " Gus asked looking over to the one eyed warlock.
" I don't know. Guess she never liked it, or maybe bad memories. " Evan replied shrugging his shoulders. " Plus, when we did make our debut. I doubt they would let us in anyways. "
A-Actually, a‐about the ban... " Gus spoke up nervously. " I, uh, used my H. A. S. presidential authority to pull some strings. You've both been given a full pardon! "
Hearing this grabbed Luz's attention as she grew excited. " You mean... "
" I got the ban lifted! "
" Holy gosh. Yes, yes, yes! " Luz grabbed Gus by the collar shaking him like crazy. " Of course We'll be there tomorrow! Gus, this will be great! We'll get to see the school and save the president. " She said while jumping up and down on the couch.
" Nope, there's no we. Just you. " Evan spoke up in a bland tone as he walked out going into the kitchen while Gus and Luz followed him.
" Evan please, c'mon just come with us. " Luz pleaded as Evan was making himself a big sandwich using his magic as he gave her a look. " Read my lips. N.O. NO. I ain't gonna have a repeat of what happened last time. "
" Yeah, but we got something good out of it. " Luz said trying to have him look at the bright side. " We met Willow and Gus...And Amity...If that little fiasco counts. Plus Wilhelm's attending Hexside as well. "
" Nope. " Evan still wouldn't budge and took a bite of his large lunch.
" Okay, okay. " Luz put her hands in defense. " You win. "
" Your really trying to play that card on me? Cause it's not working. " Evan said in a flat tone continuing to eat his sandwich.
" Evan please~ "
" No... "
Thinking up another idea, Luz quickly gained a smirk matching that of the grinch. " Okay, that's fine. I guess when I do go, I'll tell everyone that the infamous Devil Eye is afraid of spiders. "
" You wouldn't dare... " Evan said glaring his single eye at her.
Luz still held onto her smirk knowing she won. " Try me... " Growling in anger Evan stepped outside opening the door. Looking for something nearby to hit, he found a patch of grass and started kicking it.
" Your! Making me! Beat! Up! Grass! " The warlock yelled out between each kick he did.
" Great! I'll see you tomorrow! "
" But! " Evan proceeded to pick up Gus by the collar making the small warlock flinch making him lock in his single eye. " If this whole thing is a trick, or something else...Your gonna pay up, big time...buddy. " He said in a threatening tone making Gus gulp nervously before Evan dropped him jabbing his thumb over to the doorway. " Now get. "
Quickly rushing out Gus closed the door sighing in relief. " Yes! You did it, Gus! " He started doing a victory dance. " You did it, Gus You're the smartest You're the best~ "
" Sweet moves, little dude. " Hooty said spooking Gus. " I always forget you're there! "
" I forget I'm here too...Boop. "
" This is gonna work out after all. " Gus smiled.
The next day
" This isn't gonna work out at all! " Willow disagreed with the whole entire plan Gus had made up. Both of them were at the entrance of Hexside.
He rubbed his head nervously realizing of course Willow would be like this. " Well, I feel like I took care of any potential problems. "
" You lied to our best friend and and told her you got the ban lifted. That seems like a potential problem to me. Not mention if Evan finds out, who knows what he's gonna do. "
" I know! I know! " Gus replied back nervously. " But, you don't understand. The members were going mad. They were bloodthirsty. They were touching objects. I had no choice! "
" Really? What about all the wanted posters around school? " She asked reminding him of what was going on.
With a smirk Gus reached into his bag pulling out a copy of Luz and Evan's wanted posters.
" What wanted posters? I also got these. " He pulls out two black cowls. " To keep them undercover. " However much to his surprise the human and her friend had already arrived.
" Undercover from what? " Luz asked as Guz slammed the cowl onto the human girl not even giving her a chance to react while Evan raised an eyebrow. " Behold your new cowl. "
" Whoa. I love it. " Luz bought into the act and then Gus made it turn around so her face could be seen allowing the hood to drop. She then took a sniff of the cowel for some odd reason. " On the Boiling Isles new things smell old. "
" Yep, here's yours Evan. " Gus was about to hand it to him until the one eyed warlock waved his hand telling him no.
" Nuh-uh. I can handle that. " Evan said before using his magic to make his purple cloak turn black.
" Okay, that works. Now keep those on. Luz be sure to hide your ears. " Gus instructed with a nervous chuckle. " Wanna keep you under wraps 'till the big reveal. " Seeing this Willow only frowned giving Gus a look of disproval.
" Oh, a showman. I totally get it. You bring the razzle, I'll bring the dazzle. " Luz exclaimed pulling the hood of the cowel over before some random confetti popped out of her hands much to the others confusion.
" Do you always have confetti on you or... " Willow's question was interupted by a low pitched scream was heard making Gus flinch slightly in pain. Pulling up one of his sleeves to show a small purple imp with a single clock eye. It's fangs pounding on the warlocks arm. He quickly poked the eye making it stop.
" That's my alarm. Uh, we better get going. " Grabbing Luz's hand they made their way off. " See you after school, Willow. "
" Bye, friend. Be safe. Make good choices. " Luz said as they ran.
" Oh, Gus. I hope you know what you're doing. "
" Defiantly not his brightest moment is it? " Wilhelm commented as he walked through the brush making the witch look around in confusion upon hearing the new voice she never heard before.
Back at the Owl House Eda sat down in front of the stone that was at the base of the door. With her knees up against her chest, the witch was in a deep thinking state. With Luz and Evan gone she had a little to think.
" I'm only trying to do what's best for them. " Eda told herself. " And I'm trying to protect Luz. " She picks up a blue rose. " Hexside chews up anything unique and spits out bland mush. " She tears off the rose and lets the pieces fall down onto the ground.
" While I get worried about Luz, about doing magic, Evan's done just fine. I hardly have to worry about him...half the time... " She said bitterly at the last part she said.
" I chew insects. I turn them into mush. " Hooty spoke up not entirely being part of her line of thought at all.
" But that's my beef. The only good thing about Hexside was meeting Phil, and that was only thing I gained out of it. Does Luz need to draw her own conclusions? "
" My beef is insects. They're what I eat. "
" You're just gonna be unhelpful, huh? " Eda questioned the house sentry with a raised eyebrow.
" All I know is, you taught me and I turned out just fine. " Hooty said as he tried to use his tongue to grab a fly that was a few inches away from him making Eda give off a serious blank look knowing what she had to do.
" I gotta get that girl into school. "
As the trio were making their way through they heard a commotion and saw two students getting dragged off by the campus security.
" No! Detention! "
" The only thing I'm guilty of is being too real! " They cried out as they were being dragged away.
" That's new... " Luz pointed out
" Well, they kinda showed up after your last visit. They smell trouble. Literally. " Gus explained as one of the guards looked over their way. " Trouble. "
" Well if they're gonna try anything at me, I won't play nice. " Evan said in flat tone cracking his knuckles while Gus grew more nervous as he grabbed Luz's hand not paying enough attention to see he ran into someone. As a result he fell down and the contents of his bag spilled. His president crown and all the wanted posters he had collected before quickly gathering them up.
" Augustus, you should really watch where you going. " Much to Gus's bad luck he ran into Mattholomule who picked up the hat dusting it off. " Don't want the president of the H. A. S. getting hurt on his last day in office. " He said in a taunting tone. His attention turns over to Luz. " This must be your human. " He walks up to get a better look at her. " Hmm. Looks like another witchling to me. " He turns over to Evan. " And I'm guessing your the expert he was talking about? "
" And you must be the douche bag I've been hearing so much about. " The one eyed warlock said bluntly in a tone telling the punk to back away from his space instantly taking the hint sort of freaked out by the vibe he was giving off.
" Psst. Psst! " Gus gained Luz's attention tapping his ears. " Dazzle.
" Oh. " Luz mimicked a trumpet before throwing off her cowel. " Ta‐da! "
Upon seeing her ears Mattholomule freaked out gasping in shock. " A human! "
" Not just any human. An expert human. " Gus spoke up confidently and motioned over to Evan. " Not to mention, Evan here has all kinds of wonderful human treasures of his own.
" Yeah, I've been doing this for years. " She played along with where Gus was going with this while Evan rolled his eye.
" There here to authenticate your treasures. " He took the hat back from Mattholomule much to his displeasure as they walked off. " See you at the meeting. "
Mattholomule was now freaking out as he put his back against some lockers skimming down to the floor. " Oh, no, no, no, no! They can't know I lied. Then they'll never make me president. Huh? " He noticed one of Luz's wanted posters was on the floor. Picking it up the warlock laughed evily gaining an idea with an added grin " Ooh, Gus, I have you now. "
Outside the school, Eda groaned upon seeing the one place she hated growing up.
" Ugh. I had this nightmare before. " She looked up to the sky with a pleadful look. " Wish you were here with me Phil...I could really use ya right now. " But smiled lightly remembering some of the good time she, her husband and sister had along with their friends.
After a brief waiting period Eda was now in the principals office face to face with Bump himself. Taking out a pencil she started fooling around.
" Been quite a while since I've sat here, huh? " She asked jokingly placed the pencil on her top lip balancing the thing as she leaned back putting her heels on the desk. I gotta admit it's extra weird without you yelling at me for picking fights or stealing.
" I can easily change that. " Bump said in a flat tone using his magic to knock Eda to the floor while putting his name plate into place. " What are you doing here, Edalyn? "
Getting back up Ed straightened up her messy hair. " I want to‐‐ Prft! " She blew up a single strand into place. " I want to enroll my human, Luz, at Hexside. And before you get all judgy‐‐ "
" That's not a bad idea. " He said completely taking Eda by surprise as she was in the middle of speaking getting all serious. " You no-good‐‐ Wait, really?
Bump got up from his chair walking over to a file cabinet " I think the student body could learn a lot from having such an exchange student. " Hearing this made Eda smirk leaning back again while returning her feet on the desk. " But... " He used his magic to turn the Owl Lady upside down. " Before I even consider that, there's a lot to be answered for. " He walks back with a large stack of files.
" All right. Yeah. I heard all about that abomination incident. "
" Oh, I'm not talking about Luz. " Bump clarified. " I'm talking about the necrotic experiments, the graffiti, the scams, the cheating, Miss Jenkinmeyer's teeth. " Eda sunk down a bit knowing where this was going. " The trouble you caused when you were here, Eda. " He proceeded to slam the files down into the desk making a loud thud while the witch herself flinched. Raising her head back up, Eda looked to see it was her permanent record.
" Huh. I thought there'd be more. " Eda commented in surprise. " Oh this is all of it, and also, I have one more condition. "
" And what would that be? " Eda questioned in curiosity. " I'd like for that young warlock who was here last time to enroll as well. The one who's always seen with you and your human apprentice. "
" What? " Even the owl lady was surprised to hear this from Bump of all people. " You want to enroll Evan? "
" You know him? " Now it was his turned to be surprised. " How exactly? "
" That's easy, because Evan's my son. " This immediately hit a pause button on Bump who was absorbing this information. Then all the sudden he broke down into laughter while falling off his chair
" Y-Y-You, you have a son!? Oh my word, that is a good one Edalyne Clawthorne! " He continued laughing and while doing so she glared at him making the old warlock stop laughing at the serious look his old student was giving. " Oooooh, your serious. "
The owl lady scoffed at what he said. " Okay, so if's he your son, then that must mean, Philip's the father isn't he? "
Eda raised her left eyebrow in confusion while crossing her arms. " Why do you make it sound like it's hard to believe? "
" Edalyn, your were the biggest trouble maker Hexside has ever known. Philip, was the top student here, he had more magical potential then most of who have attended this school. Honestly, lot's of promise he had, but instead he gave it all up, just for you. You of all people, why even I don't understand why. "
" Don't act like you know Phil... " Eda said bitterly not liking the way her husband was being spoken. " Neither of you ever bothered to try and find out he felt at all. "
" Apparently not... " Bump said bitterly. " Speaking of which, how has he been these days? I haven't speaken to him in a while. "
" Phil disappeared...He's missing for over five years... " Eda anwsered sadly diverting her attention away letting Bump absorb this new information. Even though he didn't show it, Bump was really shocked. " What happened? "
" I don't know...He left one day and hasn't been seen since... "
" Are you sure...He hasn't you know? "
" No-no-no... " Eda shook her head at what he was suggesting. " No way in Titan...Phil would never do that...
" I'm...I'm very sorry to hear that, Edalyn. " The old warlock said feeling sympathy for the Owl Lady and despite how senstive the topic was he had to tred into another." Does your son know that your... "
" Cursed? " Eda filled in the last word of his question. " He does, so does Luz. "
" I see... " Bump now grew concerned something which Eda noticed. " What? "
" Edalyn, you of all people should know that giving birth to a child while your still cursed is dangerous and can have very serious repercussions. If your son is to attend here, then I need to know more... "
" No... "
" I only want to help Edayln. " Bump said his voice showing no signs of lying. " Philip was one of the best, there might hardly be another student like him attending my school as the years roll by. Despite how different he was, he was very respected among his peers, myself included. "
After a bit of thought Eda reluctantly sighed figuring sooner or later she'd had to tell someone else what was transpiring without her sons knowledge. " What's said here, is not to leave this room till I say it's fine. " Eda said firmly as Bump nodded showing her he had his full attention and listened in on some very important details.
After a quick tour of the campus to pass the time, Gus showed Luz and Evan Hexside's Grugby Stadium, which wasn't to half bad. They also got a brief glance at the Plant Home room, and the same track room where Gus studies illusions not to mention learning some more secrets from the small warlock.
And now, it was time for the main event. The H.A.S meeting was now beginning to start with the members excluding Mattholumule acting all excited to meet a real life human as they were chanting the word while pounding their fists on one of the tables. Gus himself entered the room making himself known.
Human Appreciation Society... " He pulled the paper click acting like it was a bell and stepped aside gesturing to the doorway. " It is my distinct pleasure to introduce to... " Right on Que Luz made her way to the doorway, stumbling a bit and removed her cowel where her ears were now visible. " Luz, the human! "
The other members were ecstatic to see Gus was true to his word and brought an actual human being The eye girl squealed in excitement.
" Such showmanship.
" She's horrifying. "
" She's horryfying? Do you even own a mirror? " Evan asked as he entered the room. " Oh yeah, and this fine gentleman right here is the human treasure owner I was talking about. "
" Luz, will you inspect the items? "
" Of course, Mr. President. Allow me to determine if they're truly of my realm's origin. "As she was reaching forward to one of the items Mattholomule spoke up. " Stop! " Much to everyone's surprise he smacked all his items away. " Don't make another move, human! I have something to say. I'm new here at Hexside. M‐Making friends has been hard so I lied. They're all fakes. " He paused letting what he said sink in.
" I thought if I was important enough people would like me. But I've caused enough drama. So, I'll go. I'm sorry. "
" Hey, man. It's okay. You're only human. " Luz paused realizing how she said it. " Well, you know what I mean. "
" Mattholomule, you aren't alone. You have a place here in the H. A. S. " Gus and the other members seemed to believe what he had just said.
" You're not alone. "
" We admire your honesty. "
" You're one of us. "
" Thanks, guys. I knew you'd understand. " While everyone was pulled in, Evan wasn't so convinced but for now he decided to play along for this little game. "
Meanwhile elsewhere at Hexside Bump was having Eda do a series of chores so that Luz could attend the school. While she was fine with what she had to do, or maybe not. She knew she'd have to have a talk with her boy once the day was over with.
The owl lady grunted in frustration. " I don't wanna do this! "
" There's the whiny rebel teen I remember. " Bump said patting her on the shoulder to pass her a mop. " You'll need this to clean up all the hexed graffiti you left us.
" Bump motioned to some lockers that were covered in grafifiti which was most likely left during her days of school. " Good luck~ "
" Meh! " She stuck her tongue out at him in spite and started to get to work, the only problem was the graffiti seemed to have a mind of it's own avoiding to get cleaned moving around even spelling out 'Mother Nooo! for some odd reason.
The owl lady grunted realizing it was going to be a long day for her.
" Thanks for coming. " One of the female members said as they left. " Come back soon. " The third male member said.
Last to talk to them was the eyeball girl who only mumbled. But Evan managed to translate the words she was saying. " Thank you. Hope to see you again! " She said before leaving.
" Eh, we'll see what happens. " Evan replied before stretching out a bit. " Well, this is almost over with. Gus mind telling me where the restrooms are? "
" Yeah, just go down the hall to the left and make another right. "
" Much appreciated. " The one eyed warlock said making his leave making Mattholomule scoff but no less spoke up. " Hey, Augustus, Luz, thank you for being so forgiving. "
" We've all been the new kid before. Right, Gus? " " Yeah. " Both teens said in understanding tones.
" Well, I just have one thing to say... " The door suddenly was burst open and two security guards entered the room. " There she is! She's the intruder! " He said holding up her wanted poster pointing at the human girl
They walked forward, with one of them sniffing the air. " Trouble...
" No, it's fine. The ban's been lifted. " Luz said trying to put things at ease not fully realizing what was happening. " Tell 'em, Gus. " She was suddenly hooked and was starting to get dragged away. " Gus! Tell them! "
Mattholomule turned over to Gus with a wicked grin. " Oh, who's the liar now, Augustus? "
At the same time Evan had just exited out of the bathroom, currently he was yanking off some tentacles that were wrapped around him. throwing them to the side grunting in annoyance.
" What the hell is it with places never having just regular toilets? " The one eyed warlock questioned before sighing and shivered once again feeling goosebumps run down his arms.
" What the heck is it with this place? I keep getting these weird vibes every time I come here...What's with that? "
" Help! " A familiar scream caught Evan's attention.
" Oh crap, Luz! " As Evan was gonna make a run for it, he had just one problem.
" Trouble... " There was a whole gang of guards moving towards him. " Uh-oh...Hey fella's sure I can't just leave and we'll be cool about it? " He asked with a nervous smile only for one of the guards to hold up there hook staffs. " Guess not... " As the guard tried to take him, Evan gripped the staff using his strength to snap it off.
" Okay, looks like I'm gonna be busy for a while... " The devil eye commented bluntly as he started to fight his way through.
Back at the H.A.S meeting room Gus was beyond furious for what Mattholomule had done. " I can't believe you two fell for that. Like I'd actually apologize. "
" What...did you...do? "
" Ah, boo‐hoo. I'm sorry. "I am the new kid". "I want friends". " The punk said making some faces. " Ha! No. I want power. And I want drama. And I got one of those right now. " He then got right up into Gus's face. " So, what are you gonna do, Mr. President? "
Gus pulled back his fist getting ready for a punch. " Executive action. " But instead he grabbed the tongue of a nearby bell giving it a yank. Afterwards it began to ring screaming away and sprayed both warlocks with a gush of water.
Whatever Gus had in mind he succeeded and both he and Mattholomule were being dragged away to detention. During the whole trip, the warlock responsible for the mess was protesting.
" But I didn't pull the alarm! It was Augustus! Are you even listening to me? I demand justice! " The guard wouldn't listen to him and nearby Willow poked her head out of hiding.
They had now arrived, and after a door with three eyes opened it's mouth the guard threw them both inside. " Wait! " Despite his position Mattholomule tried to make them stop, but Once were inside the room, the door closed it's mouth and eyes shut trapping them in. " Hey! Get me outta here! Open up!
On the bright side though, Gus found his friend hiding behind a rock. " Luz! "
" Gus, you said the ban was lifted! "
" Well, I‐‐ " As he was trying to tell the truth the floor started to shake much to Gus's surprise. Soon enough the floor started to open revealing a large mouth. Inside the mouth were walls of teeth, eyes and clear blue tentacles. There were also blue pods inside filled with students, and there were also a few skeletons lying around.
Now Luz had seen a lot of creepy and terrifying things during her stay on the island, but this, this detention room took the whole cake as she screamed in terror.
In the cafeteria a large cloud of dust came bursting out some doors. Stepping out of the room was Eda, covered in purple slime, and a few small ghosts stuck in her hair. She was carrying a large sack that had something moving inside of it. While exiting out a few ghosts groaned as they fell down on the floor.
The owl lady was clearly not having a good time as she walked over to Bump slamming the bag down on the floor. " There. The girls' changing room is ghost‐free. "
" Are you ready to give up? " Bump asked in an amused tone picking a ghost out of her hair. " You've barely scratched the surface. " The silver haired witch growled in annoyance and looked over to a few female students.
" No, like this. " One of the girls was a member of the H.A.S she made a spell circle that created a fireball that soon turned into a snowball falling down onto the table.
The other girl was Skara who proceeded to mimic what her classmate did. " Wow. Friendship is the real magic. "
" They're just as bad as Luz. " Eda noted seeing them hug up on each other. " She'd love it here. All right. What's next, Bumpikins? " With a smile of enjoyment Bump brought out a toilet plunger instantly giving the Owl Lady her anwser.
" How is this detention!? This is a death sentence! " Luz exclaimed still trying to absorb the fact that this was the isle's definition of detention. Because in her world, they'd just have to sit in a room not get ensnared by a horrifying monster.
" I don't know! " Gus said fearfully backing up into the wall. " I've never been in detention before! "
Mattholomule scooted up next to him. "Welcome to my world. Believe it or not, in my old school I was in detention plenty of times. "
" That isn't hard to believe! " Luz commented. " You're kind of a jerk! "
" Well, down in detention, this jerk is king. " The jerk warlock said plainly. " So, if you wanna get out, you better do exactly what I say. But first, before anything else, we gotta‐‐ " Much to their surprise as he walked to the mouth something shot up into the air. It resembled that of a large green snake with a human like face with glowing red eyes.
The snake hissed and shot out a blue tendril wrapping around Mattholomules ankle. " Already? " He asked fearfully before getting drugged down inside the mouth screaming away.
" Mattholomule! " Peering down inside Luz saw he was in one of the many blue pops. She looked over to Gus with a hurt look. " You lied to me Gus, and you lied to Evan! You lied about the ban! Why? "
" I was afraid...I acted stupid. " Gus anwsered shamefully.
" Yes, you did! " The human girl said firmly as she watched him scoot his way over to her keeping his back up against the wall while explaining his reason.
" Being younger than everyone is hard. You're overlooked. Ignored. But at the H. A. S. I mattered. I could make sure no one would ever get left behind. I didn't wanna lose that. I'm sorry. " Luz put a hand on his shoulder giving him a smile.
" I get it. I just wish you told us the truth. But for the record, whatever Evan is gonna do to you, I won't stop him. "
" Okay, that's fair. " Gus replied and down bellow a loud hiss was heard looking down there were dozens of snakes making there way up slithering they way towards to the duo meaning they had to act, right then and now. " Let me make it up to you, Luz. I've got a plan. "
One of the snakes shot up spooking Luz. " Ya! " She quickly kicked it in the face sending it down. " I'm in. Where do we start? "
Gus grabbed her hand. " By leaving no one behind. " With newfound braviary Gus jumped down and much to their relief they bounced off from an eye giving them a much softer landing. Once at the bottom, they scanned the area and found their objective.
They dragged him down to the ground as a voice could be heard. " You will be a good student. "
" I will be a good student. " The warlock was in some sort of trance.
Luz then bit down onto the pod trying to use her teeth to rip it open and failed. " You know, it didn't taste as bad as I thought it would. " She admitted before realizing something and pointed at Gus. " Oh, you're a warlock. Do magic. "
" Oh, I'll use magic. " Her friend reached into his cowel pulling out his paper clip pulling at the edge straigtening it out. " Human magic! " Raising it up, he stabbed into the pod using the little piece of metal to cut Mattholomule free who was still under the trance.
" Am I a good student? "
Luz quickly hauled him up putting him over her shoulder surprised by how light he was. " Oh, gosh. He's so little. " As they were gonna leave, a whole horde of snakes came up on them hissing away.
" This is part of the plan, right? " Luz asked hoping he had another trick up his sleeve.
" Or the illusion of a plan. " Gus said as he made a spell circle putting his hand up against it, he motioned it away creating even more circles that exploded making more copies of himself and Luz spreading everywhere confusing the snakes who started striking the clones.
" A genius and a wordsmith. " Luz applauded as Gus grabbed a large piece of bone using the opportunity to start climbing with the snakes hot on their trail. As they reached the top, Luz set Mattholomule down and kicked a snake and then another while Gus bashed a third with the bone he had.
" We're gonna have to bust down the door! " Gus said as he ran forward. " Right behind you. " Luz complied picking up the jerklock running over to Gus as more snakes went after them.
With a firm grip, they both gave off war cry's while charging forward, the snakes right behind them hissing way.
Outside the door, Willow started to remove the bar on the door as she was on a mission to rescue Luz, not aware that Gus had already had it handled. While doing so she heard Eda's voice turning over surprised to see the owl lady here making her stop.
" I washed off all the graffiti. Apologized to Jenkinmeyer for stealing her teeth. Caught all the wild cerebi. " Eda listed all the tasks she had done for Bump as he followed very pleased to know that she was done with all the chores. " Ah, we should be good. "
" It will be very exciting to have a real human exchange student. Not to mention, another possible prodigy among us. " Bump said as he took her hand into a shake.
" And you won't tell the Emperor's Coven about this, will you? " Eda quickly asked as a precaution. " No. Hexside School is safe for all of you. I'm the principal, not a stooge. Consider your pupil and child, our pupils. "
A loud bang was heard startling them both turning over to the detention door. The eyes were flashing open making Willow flinch as she was closeby. Another bang was heard as the eyes showed pain before they closed shut open being busted into pieces.
Willow covered her sight as the dust cleared revealing Luz and Gus still holding onto the bone both were out of breath. " Eda? " Luz was surprised to see her mentor was there.
" Guess who got you into Hexside! " She said happily while Luz didn't realize the snakes were still after them screaming away. Before they could do anything, Bump despite being infurriatted snapped his fingers making the snakes stop, their eyes became normal looking and not red.
" Uh, sorry, Principal Bump... " One of the snakes apologized quickly slithering back into the room. " Sir. "
Bump approached Luz, who was very displeased with what he was seeing. " What did you do? "
" Ugh, kid. " Eda groaned putting a hand against her face and then paused in realization. " Wait, if your here then where's? "
The sound of painful screaming was heard and soon enough a school guard came flying right by them into a nearby wall. Then a few fireballs, and a minority of other things. Pretty soon a loud war cry was heard and Evan came running by gripping two guards in his grasp slamming them both into a nearby wall and proceeded to throw another into the ceiling.
Evan was literally drenched in sweat, and almost out of breath, meaning he had been fighting non stop. Even while Bump had to admit it was really impressive to see a young powerful magic user like him out lasting the school guards, he was now more furious putting Eda further into the gutter.
" What'd I miss!? " Evan asked in annoyance as he ran over to Luz making sure she was okay.
" To think that any student or child of yours would be capable of doing anything but create chaos... Eda, take them both and leave! You're all banned from this campus! "
Eda grunted in annoyance. All that work she had done, was all for nothing. " Come on you two. Let's go. "
" Wait, Principal Bump... " Gus spoke up as they were leaving grabbing his attention. " Don't blame them. I told Luz and Evan the ban was lifted. We were fighting over the Human Appreciation Society. I brought Luz in because I wanted to win. This is all my fault. "
Bump approached his student. " If that's so, Augustus, would you be willing to accept her punishment as your own? " The older warlock asked firmly hoping to get an anwsner which he did. " Yes, Principal Bump. I would. "
" Huh. Dang, dweebus. " Eda commented actually finding a new respect for Gus entirely.
" Very well. " He turned around to face both teens. " In light of that, barring any more trouble, you'll both officially be enrolled in Hexside School next semester. " He said much to Luz's happiness while Evan on the other hand.
" The hell I am... " He objected not pleased with hearing this information up till now. " I'm out! " He started walking away tucking his hands into his pockets.
" Uh, hold on. Hold on. " Eda spoke up getting in between Luz and Bump motioning him to scoot away so they could talk in private which he did. " I'm only doing this because I have faith in you. And I know you're too smart to fall for that One‐Witch, Warlock, One‐Coven nonsense. You can learn a lot from the witches and warlocks here. And maybe teach them some of that Bad Girl Coven magic too. "
" I didn't hear that." Bump said as he turned over to Gus. " As for you, I would be saying detention right now but that seems to be out of order. So, as of now, I'm removing you from the Human Appreciation Society. " He removes the hat.
Mattholomule asked his face flat on the ground. " Does that make me president? "
" Impressive. Still alive. Yes, I suppose you are. " He said tossing the hat over to the hurt warlock who was happy to win despite being in pain. " Yes! "
" Now, with that accomplished, Eda, once you've finished talking with we have some paperwork to fill out, right after you talk with your son. "
" Wait! I gotta do more stuff? " Eda asked in disbelief before groaning. " You better enjoy this place kid. " She said before running off to catch up with son.
With everyone gone, Luz turned over to her friends. " Wanna finish off that tour? " Gus asked.
" I can show you guys what plants not to touch in the greenhouse. " Willow chimmed in. " And then I can let you touch them. "
" Yeah! Let's go. " As they went leaving Mattholomule behind Gus spoke up. " Uh, I'm not trying to ruin the mood or anything, but will Evan be alright? "
" I'm sure he'll be fine. " Luz anwsered while at the same time having a bit of doubt considering how he was.
Outside Eda was doing her best to catch up with Evan who despite walking turned out to be faster then she was. " Evan hold on! "
" No! Go away! " The one eyed warlock replied back before she caught up to him grabbing his right arm. " Evan c'mon just listen to me for a minute! "
He jerked his arm out of her grasp. " I get the idea of enrolling Luz, here. I do, but that's what she wants, I don't. But why the heck did you do something like this behind my back without telling me about it first!? "
" Okay, fair point made. " Eda admitted raising her hands in defense. " You're absolutely right, I should've talked to you about this. "
" Then why didn't you? "
" Aside from doing 'heinous chores' for that old fart. He had another condition that had to met if she was going to attend. He wanted to enroll you. "
" He wants me? " Evan raised an eyebrow in confusion finding this hard to believe. " He said that. "
" I just was just as surprised as you were. Honest. "
" Well you can tell him, I'm not interested. I've been just fine with homeschooling, I have no desire to be here. "
" I know, I know. But there's a lot you could learn here... "
" Mom, I already know more about magic then most kids my age hardly know about! And that's because I didn't attend any normal school here on the isles' What the hell am I gonna gain from here? I've lived my entire life with the idea of being yourself being, your own witch and warlock, not what someone else wants you to be. "
Eda sighed shaking her head a bit kneeling down to get to his eye level. " Evan, I rarely have to worry about you. You got your smarts and will from me, while you got your dads good looks and his personality. "
" I see what your doing... " Evan crossed his arms with a flat expression. " Buttering me up with those words, I already know that. But still, my anwser is still there, no. " As he walked away Eda spoke up once again.
" Evan, please? If your not gonna do it for me, then could you at least do it for Luz? " Hearing this made him stop in his tracks. " Evan, there's only a few things that I regret, and one of them is not being able to let you live a normal life...If you did, then you'd have more friends I blame myself for that to. So did your dad... "
Eda glanced around the area around her smiling lightly as Evan looked over his shoulder. " While I might not like this place, it still holds a lot of memories for me...Good and bad...But I will admit, if it wasn't for Hexside, then I wouldn't have never had met Phil, which would end up with me having you... " Her son turned around facing her. " Don't let my past, affect your life Evan...I want you to have your own experiences and make yourself memories that'll last a life time...Look, I know it's gonna be hard to adjust, but please give yourself a chance...You won't be here by yourself, Wilhelm's here to, so is your other friends, Luz included. "
" Yeah but for how long? " He asked. Eda knew what he meant by that. If there was one thing she noticed, Evan had changed a lot since meeting her human apprentice. She already knew that Luz meant a lot to him, and now slowly he was dreading something that was bound to happen sooner or later. Despite how simple the question was, Eda was careful to pick the right words to anwser him with.
" We'll cross that bridge when we need to...I promise... "
The one eyed warlock scoffed before crossing his arms. " Fine...But if they try dragging me into that detention room, then you better be prepared to homeschool me more. "
Eda chuckled at his choice of words, he really rubbed off her which was something Eda was always glad to see. " Deal. " The Owl Lady went over to her son and embraced him in a hug. While doing so, many memories began to surface, some of them coming into the light, primarily the ones about Phil.
Well, that's a wrap! Hope you all enjoyed this chapter, sure it's pretty much the same like the episode with some different content, but hey, I just figured let Gus have his moment to shine, because next time, it's gonna be a real treat. Trust, me I guarantee you will like it.
As for updates this month, I'll try to aim for another one of my stories that hasn't been updated in a while. But the other updates to expect will be Chris and Kipo in The Age of Wonderbeasts along with Ultraman Kiba.
