This chapter right here will be another original chapter and let's just say tis thing is a gonna get a bit extreme, I'm not gonna say to much, but the only thing I can say is that you'll know it when you see it.
While it is true, I have slightly added a bit of dark elements to this story, but that's it's a horror comedy, and as of lately with things progressing steadily getting darker, I threw in my own sense of darkness into this as well.
But before I start, I just want to say, the Owl House episode, Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door". I lost a lot of respect for Owl House. Because of the way they did it. It just felt a bit to rushed and decided to do another thing like the body swap episode where it focuses on the three most noticeable residents. And no not because of the 'Lumity' thing, I can give less a crap about that.
Hell, I'm one the few that share that same sentiment.
But the fact that just because the second season was going to end pretty soon, and they could've have taken their time to plot it out a bit better, to me that's just lazy writing. Not for the character's developments, but for something that could've been something good.
Anyways, that's just my opinion, you all got yours and I got mine. So go ahead and get start reading, I don't mean to sour up the mood guys. Hope you enjoy this chapter.
Chapter 17
Fear
Right about now it was the middle of the night at the Boiling Isles roughly around 2:00 A:M and a few more hours the sun would rise, giving light to a brand-new day. While this was going on, the residents of the Owl House were still sleeping. Luz was holding King up against her like a teddy bear, and Hooty was snoring actual hoots. But actually, not everyone was asleep.
The sound of a flushing toilet was heard, and Eda came yawning exiting out of the bathroom groaning a bit a bit while rubbing her eyes. " I need to lay off apple blood before going to bed... " She said heading back to her room and nest. While on the way to her room to go back to her nest she passed by her sons door. While doing so she heard laughter making the owl lady pause. " Huh? " Out of curiosity she gently opened the door to peer inside.
Using a little bit of magic to make a small light orb to see what was going on. Eda saw that he was smiling, and laughing to, this clearly meant he was having a very good dream about something. She'd defiantly be asking him what it was about in the morning.
But as she was closing the door she heard Evan gasp making her spin her head around, noticing that his breathing was starting to get heavy. Concerned for her child Eda made her way inside, whatever nightmare he was having didn't sound good at all. So she did what most people would think be the right thing to do to wake him up. Gently putting a hand on her child, she shook him a bit. " Evan...Evan wake up...Evan your having a- " She got caught off guard because her son shot up screaming himself away panting heavily and he was white as a sheep. Rapidly he looked around his surroundings as if he was making sure everything around him was real.
" Evan...are you alright? "
He didn't answer and covered his mouth and made a mad dash for the door pushing Eda aside. Naturally she ran after him down the hallway where he made a turn running into the bathroom. From outside she heard him start to empty out the contents. Hearing this Eda stopped in her tracks and slowly walked over to the doorway putting her ear against the door to listen.
After a while she heard him stop emptying his stomach and heard the toilet flush. Figuring now was a good time she knocked on the door. " Evy?...You okay in there? " She didn't get a response when she was about to knock again, she stopped. Instead, she reached for the handle and slowly opened the door too pear inside.
In the corner Evan was sitting up against it holding the side of his head with his left hand and had the other just right near his jaw. The one-eyed warlock was trembling like crazy tears were trailing down from his good eye and leaking from underneath his eye patch. But it was the expression on his face that had Eda most concerned and worried for her child. It was an expression she'd never seen before.
An expression that showed showed fear and was horror. " Evan... " He turned over to Eda and without hesitation he went over to her while she in return embraced her son, allowing
The next morning
After finally calming Evan down enough to pass out Eda brought Evan back to his bed. But if the Owl Lady had to be honest she barely got any sleep at all, because she was confused and worried for her boy. He has never done anything like that before, and her motherly instincts were more heightened then they'd ever been in the last couple of years. She had to know what happened.
But like everyone else sleep took over and she was snoring away like a freight train. That was until, " HOOT! HOOT! GOOD MORNING! " Hooty yelled out extremely loud jolting Eda awake much to her annoyance.
" Damn it Hooty! What I'd say about doing that in the mornings!? "
" Because I enjoy it! Hoot! " The house guardian replied back making the owl lady groan.
" Note to self, 'attend to that issue' later. " She said before getting up and in the process crack her back making a snap be heard. While dong so, she pulled a small branch out from her left sleeve. Her first move was to go and check on Evan to see how he was doing. However, when she opened the door, she found that her son wasn't in bed. At first, she was concerned but upon hearing the sounds of bags hitting the floor coming from the lower floors that got her attention.
As Eda went down the stairs, she saw that Evan was in the kitchen dressed and packing up a hiker's backpack and on the counter, there were a few other supplies as well.
" What's all this for? " She asked grabbing his attention for a brief moment.
" Oh, I'm gonna be gone for a few days. " Seeing her expression becoming worried he quickly spoke up. " And no, its got nothing to do with what happened. I'm gonna be going with Wilhelm. Apparently, he needs a hand in something that Saul tasked him with. "
Hearing that name perked up Eda's interest. " Your doing a job for Saul? What does he want?
" I don't know. But I'm gonna find out. " Evan replied as he finished packing and slung a large travel pack over his shoulders.
" And your only gonna be gone for a few days, right? "
" Yes, yes, three at best, possibly four. Don't worry I'll be fine. " Evan said walking up to his mother giving her a hug before he made his way to the door.
" Aren't you going to say goodbye to Luz? " Evan paused for a moment. He wanted to say something, but instead he didn't and just continued walking much Eda's shock.
" Oh Evan! Good morning! " Silently under his breath he cursed. Why did it have to happen just when got to the door handle? Up at the stairs Luz looked at her friend and roommate at first with confusion that soon, turned to worry once Evan glanced over to her. For the first time she saw something that she'd never seen in him before, fear, and from the corners of his eye's tears were threatening to break from them.
" Evan? Evan where are you going!? " He turned opened the door and went out closing it behind him not even acknowledging her at all.
Startled by what just happened, Luz went down the stairs keeping her gaze focused on the door where he left before turning to her mentor. " Eda? What's going on? "
The owl lady sat down on the couch bearing a look of concern. " I don't know... "
" Did...Did I do something wrong? " Luz asked as she went over to sit down with him.
Eda shook her head. " No... Luz you didn't do anything. It's-It's complicated... "
Seeing that Eda was also concerned Luz decided to change the subject at least for now. " Then where's he going? "
" He's going to spend a few days with Wilhelm. "
" That's his cousin, right? "
The owl lady nodded her head as she poured her cup of apple blood. " Yeah, something about a job for an old friend of my friend. "
" A friend? " Luz raised an eyebrow not sure if she actually meant a real friend or one of her business rivals. Seeing her reaction Eda couldn't help but chuckle a bit, since she couldn't blame the girl for getting the wrong idea.
" No not that kind of friend. " She then smiled. " Yeah, a real good friend of mine. The one person my husband trusts enough to think of him like his brother. "
" Defiantly sounds important. What's his name? "
" His name is Saul Flurry. He's an orc. "
" An orc? Like the ones I read in books? "
" That's kind of half about right... "
" What's he like? "
" Well despite his appearance, he's a really nice guy. On the outside he may look like he could tear out your spine. Even though he could if he wanted to. He's gentler than you think. Plus, he heals more people then breaking skulls. "
" So, what he's a doctor? "
" Yeah, basically. "
" Where's my breakfast!? " King called out from the kitchen making Eda sigh. " The King of Demons demands his feast of the morning! "
" I'll take care of him. " Luz spoke up patting her mentor on the shoulder heading into the kitchen leaving the Owl Lady in her own thoughts.
Evan yawned while stretching his arms as he entered Bonesborrough early in that morning and as to be expected everyone who was working the early morning shifts were leaving their homes and those who worked the night shifts returned. And of course, there was always some sort of weird flying monster coming down to scoop up it's breakfast on whoever was unlucky enough to get caught.
" Ah, there you are cousin. I was thinking I'd have to come get you in case you forgot. " The red head greeted while his said relative yawned a bit. " You never really were much of a morning person much like Aunt Edalyn are you? "
" Yeah...sometimes... " He replied back in a groggy voice. " Do you have anything to eat? I'm starving right now. "
" Not to worry, I came prepared. " Wilhelm reached into his cloak and pulled out a sandwich passing it over to his cousin who quickly started scarfing it down.
" Let's go now, shall we?"
Evan nodded and followed his cousin who proceeded to whistle. Right on que little Nara came flying out of her hiding spot landing on the red heads shoulder. After a few brief turns through the alleys, they found Wilhelm's boat.
The one-eyed warlock hopped inside putting his bag down right beside him. Wilhelm followed in and used his magic to push them into the water and started paddling making their way to Gloomuck Swamp. Along the way the red head noticed something seemed to be off with Evan. Usually he'd be one to start off a conversation or make small talk, his attitude right now was odd, he'd hadn't seen him like this before.
" Evan, are you alright? "
" I'm fine Wilhelm...I just got a lot on my mind right now...Let me be. "
" Very well...If you want to talk, I'm willing to listen. "
" I appreciate that Wilhelm. "
" Anytime cousin. Anytime. " The red head replied back as he continued paddling and eventually, they entered the murky waters of the Boiling Isle's swamplands. Surely enough they arrived at Wilhelm's home. After securing the boat with the rope, Wilhelm disembarked and helped his cousin up.
When Evan did enter, he heard the sound of snoring. Turning around he smiled, sitting on a nest was Bomper fast asleep without a care in the world. While walking over to him the dragon stirred awake and upon seeing Evan it lightly wagged its tail showing how happy he was to see another familiar face.
" Hi Bomper... " Evan greeted petting the Ugly Freezer in the process. " How's my boy doing? Yeah, it's nice to see you too... "
" Hey Wilhelm, is that you!? " A voice called out grabbing their attention. " Are you here? "
" Yes, I just arrived back Viney! " The red head replied back. " Do you require any assistance? "
" Actually, yeah. I could use a little hand right here. "
" Certainly. " Wilhelm replied back and went out to the back door with Evan following behind. When he did go through the door he was greeted by Coal, the Flaming Scourge was rubbing its snout all over him in a very affectionate way.
" Hey Coal... " After giving him a few pets he spotted Wilhelm and as he was catching up to him he ducked down avoiding a small dragon that resembled that of a hummingbird.
Afterwards he spotted a dragon with a long serpentine body, covering in dark blue scales and what appeared to be barnacles growing on a few parts of it's body. Standing in front of it was Wilhelm and someone else he'd haven't met before.
It was a young witch around the age of most likely the age of 15. She had brown hair with four wefted bangs and a messy bun held together by a dark orange hair tie. She wears a fishhook earring on one ear and has pointed ears similar to the other inhabitants of the Boiling Isles. She has green eyes with one lash on the top and one lash on the bottom, her clothing consisted of a short sleeved grey shirt, black pants with slightly torn leggings and a pair of black shoes.
" What's seem to be the problem? "
" I have to clean Jude's teeth, but he won't open his mouth. "
" Ah, allow me. " Wilhelm picked up a very large brush holding it up and tapped the ground three times at a quick pace four times. Once he did, the dragon lowered down it's head and opened up it's jaw.
" Oh. Thank you. " Picking up a small set of pliers from her pockets she reached inside and carefully started to extract fish bones that were stuck in the beast's teeth. " Sorry about the hassle. "
" Not to worry. I can't thank you enough for looking after 'our friends' here Viney. I very much appreciate it. "
" Nah, forget about it. I'm more than happy to help. " Viney replied as she picked out the last fish skeleton from the dragon's mouth. " Also, just to let you know I've fed everyone, Darly has had her eyedrops, Eugene's been going to the bathroom just fine. "
" And what about Clyde? "
" His leg is doing much better. " Viney anwsered before Wilhelm grabbed her hand and noticed there was a couple of scratches on it.
" Viney, we've talked about this, I told you to leave the Sand Lasher to me. "
" I know, but the wound needs more ointment. "
" Well, I surely don't want you to lose any possible fingers over it. " Wilhelm said before he walked off to the right and approached a very large sand pit. Once he arrived, he picked up a large piece of wood and started rattling it.
As he did, a triangular shaped rattle popped out of the sand in the process and started to emit a noise that sounded like ten rattlesnakes in unison. Afterwards a head emerged from the sand, it's mouth filled with rows of sharp teeth with two noticeable long fangs dripping with venom. The dragon was very much reptilian that had a snake like vibe. It had intimidating orange eyes, it's body was mostly colored brown and a few different patches, different shades of brown. It had a single black horn on it's nostril, a maroon-colored crest on his forehead. There were also few small black spikes going down it's back. It had a set of wings with green webbings. This species of dragon was called a Sand Lasher
When it emerged, it lowered it's head down and locked eyes with Wilhelm. Once that happened, he shook his stick making it rattle which in return the sand ripper returned the gesture with it's rattle. This showed a form of communication, and after a bit more rattling, the dragon lowered down it's head.
" There we are. Ointment Viney. " The witch nodded and started to apply it on the side of it's head. And Wilhelm gently rubbing it's horn and the reptilian enjoyed it very much.
" You try to bite Viney again, and there'll be missy. " The red head scolded and with the ointment done the sand ripper quickly retracted it's head back and went back into the sand pit.
" Alright Viney, once you're done with what you need to do, you can go home. "
" You sure? "
" It'll be fine. Just be sure to arrive here early tomorrow. Take care now. " With a nod she walked off to continue the rest of whatever needed to be done. With the small assistance done Wilhelm walked back over to Evan who continued to follow him back to the house.
" You have an assistant? " Evan questioned as he followed him. " Color me surprised. "
" Well, even someone such as I requires help. Plus, on trips like the one were taking it's always good to have someone here holding down the fort. Plus, she wishes to open a clinic for magical creatures as well. So I figured I could at least lend her a bit of the knowledge Aunt Hilda showed me. Plus, she actually wants to help, so it's hard not to say no. " He said as they entered into a much larger room.
It was filled with various glass bottles, all corked with a few various herbs hanging all over. Not to mention it had a smell to it, as well, a bit musky but also refreshing to.
They turned to the sound of cutting.
The Orc was tall resembling one from WOW. He had thick long black hair running down his back, at the front there were two large strands that were braided being held together by blue metal hair bands. He also had a scruffy beard under his chin. His clothing consisted of dark tan colored tunic also wearing a pair of light gray pants wearing a set of gloves and boots matching in color.
Currently right now he was using a knife to cut a few herbs followed by grinding them up with a stone presser. Once he was done, he placed into the cauldron next to him. " That should do it. "
" Uncle Saul, were here. " Wilhelm spoke up grabbing the orcs attention and glanced over to the young warlocks smiling a bit.
" Hello Evan... "
" Hey Uncle Saul... "
" I take it you are for the job? "
" Yes sir. " Chuckling a bit in approval for the one-eyed warlocks anwser the orc reached underneath the table and unrolled out a map showing a much different island then the one they were used to.
" Since you're here now, I'll cut to the chase. Evan, I need you and Wilhelm to go the Dante's Cooler to gather ingredients for me. Normally I would be able to, however lately I have not been able to. "
" Why's that? "
" As of late the Emperor's Coven has been scouting out the area, looking for wild witch's and warlocks. " He said in a grim tone.
Evan was a bit surprised to hear this. " Sheesh, they even go out that far north?
" Unfortunately, yes. " The orc replied. " But where your going will be extremely dangerous. You will travel to not only to the wilds of Dante's Cooler, but you will also make your way to Dantala. "
" You mean that old fortress? " Hearing this made Evan raise an eyebrow in confusion. " Why there? "
" Because this where this will benefit you especially Evan. " Saul answered as he pulled out a book and slammed it onto the table making a bit of dust come flying off.
" I'm listening... " Evan said as he watched Saul gently flip through the pages.
" Tell me, are you aware of Eda's curse? " The orc inquired.
" I am, Wilhelm told me... " Evan said glancing over to his cousin. " And he told me you knew the whole time...Why didn't you tell me? "
" Your father asked me not to. But, even he knew eventually you'd find out. I personally disapproved, but I've known him long enough to know his reasons. " Saul proceeded to flip the pages until he found what he was looking for. Once he did so he turned it around to show Evan and Wilhelm what they'd be looking for.
" Your main objective to retrieve this Gabu planet that grows deep within Dante's Cooler. It's a very rare flower, and hard to find, but the only known place where it grow's lies in that fortress. "
Evan glanced over to Wilhelm with a look that said 'is he serious?' and the red head only nodded his head.
" Alright, I'm in. But are you really sure this plant is gonna help my mom? "
" Of course. Where do you think Morton gets his supplies from? " Saul retorted back with a flat look. " What I do ain't for free...If it was it'd be easier, we'd all be happy. "
" Okay, so when do we leave? "
" Right now...But be careful, the island has a blizzard that'll be coming shortly. Once you arrive, take shelter once things settle down. I know you two are more then capable enough, but even so, do heed caution. "
" Cool, all we gotta do is a hitch ride on your friends Wilhelm. " Evan commented but Wilhelm winched a bit. " What? "
" That won't work. "
" Why not? "
" I've tried to fly to that fortress, but each time I do, Coal keeps getting spooked. "
" Spooked? " Now Evan was confused. " No offense, but what the hell can spook a deadly flying, fire breathing reptile? "
" I don't know. I've never seen him act like that. "
" Well how else are we supposed to get there? "
Hours later we now see a large steamboat called the 'Rebute' making it's way through the waters. While there wasn't much advanced technology in the underworld, they still did manage even though a vessel such as this was sort of considered to be 'outdated' in the human world. Sure, flying on a staff or magical creature was optional, but not everyone has that luxury nor option so having these vessels always played a vital role in the everyday lives of witch's and warlocks alike.
" So, are you really, we couldn't have flown on one of your dragons instead? " Evan whispered leaning into his cousin's ear who leaned back to reply. " I already told you they won't go to that old fortress, plus some other species can smell an intruder on their territory from miles away. Also were supposed to not draw to much to ourselves. " The red head explained with Evan giving him the stink eye.
" Speak for yourself, you don't even have a wanted poster. "
" Ah, yes and there's that luxury. " Wilhelm said in amused tone. " But worry not, we'll be fine just as long as you follow my instructions. "
" And if it doesn't go as planned? "
" Simple, we improvise. " Evan only hummed in response seeming fine with his answer. Noticing this Wilhelm gazed over at his cousin. " What? "
" You seem to a chip on your shoulder. Is everything alright? "
" I already told you Wilhelm I'm fine...Speaking of which do you have list of what were supposed to find? "
" Yes, I do. " Wilhelm replied pulling out the said piece of paper from his pocket. " Does this answer your question? "
" I'll take it. " Evan replied as Wilhelm sat up.
" We should be arriving at the island pretty soon. I'm gonna go. "
" Go wher-Oh, never mind. " Evan realized what his cousin meant by that and dropped the subject.
" Is this seat taken? " A voice asked Evan turned over to see an elderly slightly chubby witch with pale skin, a violet-colored lower lip, olive green eyes, and rounded-out facial features such as pronounced dimples. Like all witches on the Isles, her ears were pointed and facing to her sides. Her hair is mostly light gray, with the exception of two patches of white on her sides. She wears her hair in a symmetrical neck-length style, standing upwards on the sides and on top, with two locks falling around her cheeks and her nails were painted violet. She was dressed in a dark violet, short-sleeved, ankle-length dress with white fur trims and a broad white fur collar. She wears crescent-shaped eyeglasses and a pair of rectangular dark golden earrings. She also had also worn a large, round brown necklace with a rune stamped on it.
" No, not at all. Help yourself. " Evan replied motioning to the open seat.
" Thank you. " She took the empty spot and sat down sighing in relief happy to be off of her feet.
Evan glanced up at the Palisman on her staff. It was a dark brown bird in an imposing hunched over pose much like one would on a branch looking for food. " That's a pretty interesting Palisman you got there. A hawk rights "
" Oh, yes. Good eye. " The old woman answered. " Hawksley is his name. "
" Hmm. "
" So, what brings someone like yourself to Dante's Freezer? "
" Eh, just a gathering trip. "
" For potions? "
" Yeah.
" Well, be careful. The island's terrain is rough and can be unforgiving at times. "
" I'll keep that mind. So, what about you? Got something to look for?
" Why do you ask that? " She questioned raising an eyebrow in curiosity.
" Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but that little tattoo you got right there tells me your part of the Beast Coven. " He said making the elderly witch smirk as holding out right wrist.
" Very observant. " She replied back. " Pardon me asking, but is the eye patch only for decoration? " Hearing this question made Evan turn over to her and raise up his eye patch revealing his left blind eye giving her his answer and putting it back in place. " Oh, I'm sorry... "
" That's ok. It's been like this since birth... " Evan reassured her. " I'm still here, I got one good eye, so I really got nothing to complain about. "
" That's a very a mature response. " The witch commented. " Not something I hear often. " As she said this the steamboat whistle went off meaning they arrived at they're stop. " Ah, looks like we arrived at our stop. I do wish you luck on your little 'quest'. "
" Thanks, it was nice talking to you! " Evan called out as she walked off. " You too! " She replied back just as Wilhelm came back looking over to the witch who was leaving.
" Who were you talking to? "
" Eh, just some lady. "
Wilhelm put a finger underneath his chin going into thought. " Either it's just me or does that lady have a resemblance to Aunt Edalyne? "
Evan shook his head. " Nah, I think your jumping the gun. " He picked up his bag as Wilhelm did the same as they two began to depart from the vessel they were on. " C'mon let's get going."
Meanwhile elsewhere at the emperor's castle we see Lilith in her office filling out paperwork. Being the head of the Emperor's Coven was defiantly not an easy job. Filling reports, examining new recruit background, examining which assignments to give to other members, the list just went on and on. Not to mention trying to locate rogue witch's and warlocks.
But right now, she'd just finished the remaining paperwork and leaned back her chair, sighing in relief. Before she could get to comfortable a knock was heard on the door.
" Who is it? "
" It's me Lilith... " The witch frowned a bit upon recognizing who the voice belonged to. As much as she wanted to, Lilith had to hold her tongue.
" Come in...Kikimora. " The door opened, and the small female demon entered. " If this is about me filling the reports I've already finished.
" Actually no, I'm here to give you these. " With a single motion of her finger a spell circle was made, and three large stacks of paper floated and slammed onto the desk and for a moment you see Lilith's right eye twitch a bit.
" I forgot to give you these. " She said in a very innocent tone making Lilith growl in anger knowing full well she did this on purpose. " Oh, and by the way, the emperor is wanting an update on your progress capturing the Owl Lady as well as the Devil Eye. "
" I assure you my sole focus is bringing them both in. "
" Honestly Lilith, the fact that even you have a hard time capturing that miscreant nephew of yours should be easy for you. You're the head of the Emperor's Coven for a reason, the task of capturing a young one shouldn't be so difficult. "
" You'd be wise not to underestimate him either. " Lilith replied back. " He's much more powerful than most realize, and at such a young age. I can attest to that. "
" Hmm, all the more reason we need to place him in a coven. Such potential at a young age would greatly help benefit the Isle's. " If you would be able to, you'd see Kikimora gaining a smirk. " Or perhaps your afraid to repeat another great failure like before? Our emperor is also beginning to wonder if you're purposely trying to hide it. "
Hearing this crossed the line, Lilith stood up from her seat glaring down at her superior. " Are you questioning my loyalty to our emperor? "
" At certain times yes. Must be hard knowing that you have to fight your own family, doesn't it? " She asked in a teasing tone enough to cross the line, but Lilith knew she had to hold it even as Kikimora left. All she could do was hold her anger in and once Kikimora left the room Lilith slammed her fist into the wall behind her to let out her frustrations.
Dante's Coole. Out of all the islands in the underworld this place is the coldest of them all, it snows here for at least two thirds of the year earning it's name. The island has a town much similar to that of Bonesborough including the land and terrain holding a vast amount of forests.
Currently we see the steamboat had just arrived at its dock from a long ramp we see passengers getting off. Most of them were rushing off because right now there was a blizzard roaring on. There were some who were frantic and trying to run off to get to someplace warm while the inhabitants were just walking around like it was no big deal.
Among them were Evan and Wilhelm both in their 'cold clothing'.
Evan's clothing for the cold consisted of a furry hooded cloak that draped over his shoulders
Wilhelm's most noticeable piece of gold gear was wearing a heavy jacket made out of fur which was no doubt from an extremely hairy animal that Wilhelm either trimmed or skinned. He also had on lumber jack style hat, underneath his jacket was a red shirt and finally he had thick black pants designed for the cold including a pair of boots to match.
" Well, big difference compared to home don't you think? " Wilhelm inquired.
" Yeah but, Were not gonna be able to get anything done with this blizzard blowing! "
" This is pretty bad... " Wilhelm noted and turned to his cousin. " Perhaps we ought to get indoors till this settle down? "
" I'm down for that. " Evan agreed as they started trekking through the thick snow to the nearest inn they could find. Upon getting inside Evan rushed over to the fireplace to get warmed up.
" *Shivering*...Damn! I forgot how cold this place is! " The one-eyed warlock exclaimed as he held out his hands sighing a bit feeling the warmth of the fire.
" Well, this island earned its name for a reason. " Wilhelm said as he went over to the desk and pressed onto the bell making it scream. Afterwards a middle-aged witch came out to greet them.
" Hello boys, are you looking for a room? "
" Yes, we are. " Wilhelm replied back as he put some snails on the counter and in return, they got a key for their room. " Thank you very much. "
" Your most certainly welcome. You both keep warm now, and bear with this. The blizzard should be done by tomorrow. "
" I like the sound of that! " Evan commented as he followed Wilhelm outside to get to their room for the time being. The moment they entered it was actually pretty clean and decent.
" Ok. This'll do. " Wilhelm nodded his head in approval while Evan slammed his backpack onto his bed and commented. " At least it's not a shit hole. "
A while later after getting settled down, we see the two warlocks wearing some white robes that were provided both were drinking from coffee mugs filled with hot chocolate. Despite the blizzard going on outside they were having a good time.
" You know this is really nice... " Wilhelm said with Evan humming in agreement. " Reminds me of those time when it snowed real heavily, and we ended up getting snowed in for two days. Remember that? "
" Oho, yeah. That was something, it was... " Evan confirmed. " If I didn't know any better, I'd say we're on vacation or something right now. "
" I wouldn't mind that all. Not one bit. " Wilhelm said as he drank from his mug sighing in content. " So, out of curiosity, how's Aunt Edalyn been? "
" Alright... "
" And the human girl? What was her name? "
" Luz. "
" Ah right...She's the same one who caused that abomination incident a while back right? "
" Yeah, I was. "
" I've been meaning to ask this for a while but why? "
" Why? Well, after a few days of staying with us, and no training with mom she was getting frustrated and one thing led to another where she got the idea of sneaking in there, and the rest you can figure out what happened. "
" Interesting...So I take it that the recent incident that caused the destruction of the detention room you're doing as well? "
" In my defense, we got tricked by Gus saying he got the ban lifted. But no, I wasn't even in there. I was busy fighting off the 'Monitors'. "
" Oh, I know who your talking about the former president of the Human Appreciation's club. That isn't around anymore now. And also, I heard something else interesting, that only is a human going to attend but a particular warlock as well. "
" And? "
" You're attending Hexside? "
Evan frowned hearing this. " Don't remind me, I'm not one bit thrilled about this... "
" No offense cousin but considering your vast knowledge on magic and experience you'd instantly be a star student. Minus my aunt and uncles rebellious side. "
" Just to be clear I'm only going because that's part of Bumpkins agreement if Luz was to attend. "
" You caught Bump's interest? " The red head questioned a bit surprised to hear this. " It's not every day that happens...Wait, so if I'm interpreting this right...Your only going because Luz will be there? "
" You interpret right. " Evan replied bitterly drinking his hot cup of joe.
" Hmmm... "
Evan raised an eye upon hearing that. " What? "
" Just surprised... "
" About what? "
" The only reason your going to school is because of some girl. If I'd known this, it's clear you l- "
" Drop the topic Wilhelm. " Evan said cutting him off.
" Fine, no need to bust out your boxing gloves. " Wilhelm said drinking from his own cup sighing in content from the taste and warmth it brought. " Let's just enjoy the peace. Want to see what's on the crystal ball? "
" Yes. " Evan grabbed the remote to turn it on and find something good.
The Next day after grabbing whatever else they needed the two trekked through thick snow for a good couple of hours. Along the way there was some tripping and nearly falling off a cliff but the two of them had each other's back and they finally arrived at their destination.
Standing before them was a massive old, abandoned fortress. One would say it was safe to agree that this place was much bigger than the emperor's own castle. It had clearly seen better days to, because the place was littered with holes and the grounds had old pieces of armor, shields covering the ground with a bunch of old weapons sticking out of the snow.
" Yeesh, this place looks welcoming. " Evan commented sarcastically as they made their way to it. " So, Wilhelm, what can you tell me about this place? "
" Dardla is all that remains of the ancient kingdom of Farlin. In its glory days Farlin was the pinnacle of this island. "
They were getting closer to the front gate with one massive door broken off laying on the side." What happened? "
" They say that their last ruler, King Farlin the 12th was a very kind ruler who gave his wealth to the sick and eventually even gave them his crown. But in the end, he was outraged by his own people's greed. A civil war soon began as a result. But now, this old relic is now frozen with the machinery of war...soldiers and weapons forever frozen in the posture of its own destruction. There's also rumors that the king's spirit haunts this place as well. "
" That sounds rough, but Wilhelm I hate to break it to ya, but I ain't afraid of no ghost. "
" Careful cousin... " The redhead advised. " You never know. "
" And I'll believe it when I see it. " Evan replied back as they entered and when they did there were a few tall pieces of ice and inside of them were the remains of warriors who once guarded this ancient place.
" But on the other hand, though, this place does give me the chills. No pun intended. " Evan said as they walked past the frozen corpses and for a brief moment, he saw that a pair of eyes moved making him pause turning to it.
" Did that ice cube just blink at me? " Evan questioned in confusion.
" Just keep going... " Wilhelm said to his cousin as they entered and all the sudden the ice covering the bodies shattered revealing creatures with sickly green skin and glowing yellow eyes each of them wearing black and orange armor wielding either swords and shields, dual blades or any one-handed weapons.
" Looks like I wasn't trippin'. " Evan said as he made a spell circle and without a second to react multiple black tendrils sprouted out of the ground ensnaring the ghouls heaving them into the air. " And you were saying? "
" My apologies. " Wilhelm said as they heard more groans and saw that more ghouls were charging towards them. In response to this, Wilhelm made his own spell circle that created a large fireball that shot towards the incoming horde exploding on impact. " Good thing we didn't follow the same path as others our age did. Would you say? "
" Hm-hmm. " Evan nodded his head as they started running across the courtyard to make haste because more undead warriors were emerging from the snow like zombies.
" If theirs's ghouls here then that means there's more inside the deeper we go. " Wilhelm noted.
" Good, I haven't had any good action in a while! " Evan exclaimed as they made their own spell circles that made the two propel higher up into the air followed by Evan making two spell circles joining them together to shoot large amounts of electricity frying the ghouls in the process as they got to higher ground. From their view they saw all the living dead crumple down like domino's.
" A bit over doing it don't you think? "
" Coming from the guy who just blew some up? Yeah, I don't think so. "
" Are we going to just banter and not get down to business to make this task go by? "
Evan shrugged his shoulders. " I'm just following the mood. "
" Excellent! Shall we be off? " As Wilhelm walked forward Evan questioned him. " Do you even know where the flowers are? "
The red head stopped and sighed. " I'm afraid not. Acquiring knowledge on this old fortress was near impossible on me and Sauls part. "
" So were gonna have to explore this whole place? "
" Yes. "
" That's gonna take all day. "
" It will if we just continue to stand here. " Wilhelm pointed out as he walked forward with his cousin catching up. " " Who's knows? Maybe along the way we could find something worthwhile. "
" Or not. " Evan said in a flat tone as they proceeded inside.
Later that night at the Owl House everything was oddly and shockingly quiet. It wasn't a normal everyday occurrence, but the residents didn't mind it at all, especially since Hooty was fast asleep.
Sitting on the couch Luz was reading one of her Luzura books with King on her lap gently petting the small canine much to his delight. As much as she enjoyed the peace, she couldn't help but think about Evan and that look he gave her. She had never seen him that scared, aside from spiders but those were the only times. Compared to his fear of arachnids this was something much different.
" What's wrong with you? " King asked looking up to her. " Why'd you stop petting me? "
" I'm just worried about Evan... "
" He'll be fine. Plus, this is Evan were talking about...He'll be back here before you know it. "
" I know, but it's not that. Something's bothering him, he didn't even reply back to me as he left. He's never done that before and that look he gave me to... " She put her book down and started to go in thought. " King, has he ever acted like this? "
" Sometimes. But that's usually because he misses Phil. " King anwsered as he straightened himself up on her lap. " Other than that, nothing else. "
" But what's bothering him? "
" Honestly that's a good question... " Eda said as she walked into the room plopping down on the couch.
" Eda do you know? "
" Yes and no... "
" About what? Sure, bad dreams are scary- "
" Luz, you don't understand... " Eda cutted her off. " He screamed himself awake, bolted to the bathroom, emptied out his stomach and... when I came to check up on him, he was in the corner...crying... "
" What? " She was shocked to hear this. " Why? "
" I don't know...I've never seen him like this before. "
" Ever? "
" No... "
" Did you try to ask? "
" I did, but Evan wouldn't budge. Even when he calmed down, he just went straight to bed. " Eda proceeded to sigh.
" Why don't you try to talk to him? "
" That's hard to do. Evan rarely shares his problems. "
" Well, even so you have to try. "
" That's the thing... " Eda nervously rubbed her shoulder. " Luz...I don't know what to do. "
" What? "
" Luz, I am terrible with personal problems and issues...But even then, I had to suck it up and teach him things that Phil could've taught him before he disappeared. I taught him how to shave, how ride on Owlbert, I even taught him how to slow dance. " She cringes for a moment. " And teaching him about the 'thing'. Ugh, that was horrible. "
" What thing? " Luz asked and Eda turned to her apprentice giving the female teen a flat look. After a few seconds it came to her. " Ooooooh...That 'thing'. " She said blushing a bit in embarrassment.
" And you know, over the years Lilith has told me about me being terrible mother. Now, I don't really care about what she says, but sometimes, I hate to say it but she's right at times. "
" Like that time, you left me & Evan alone at the house so you can go too Boiling Winterfest. " King asked in a very unamused tone glaring at her.
" Yeah, that's one of them. " Eda admitted bitterly because she did. " Honestly, at times I was scared because I was by myself raising Evan alone for seven years. I couldn't afford to have my parents in on this nor Phil's and I'd be damned if I was to ask Lilith for help. Thank Titan for Hilda and Saul, they helped me pull through when the times were hard. "
Luz patted her on the shoulder. " I understand Eda. Raising me and watching me grow up wasn't a chore for my mom either. Working overtime, and at night shifts, sometimes I barely ever saw her. But she worked harder so she could support me and compared to back then I see her more. And I'm thankful she did. Eda, I know your worried about him and so I am I. "
" What do you think I should do then? "
" For right now, just wait and hopefully he'll come to you. If not then, you know what to do. Just follow your heart. "
" Blegh! " Eda said because of how corny and cheesy Luz said it but knew even though she wouldn't admit but Luz was right. And a now she was feeling a bit more at eased.
Meanwhile with Evan and Wilhelm the two warlocks had made their way deeper into the old fortress. Along the way they had to fight numerous ghouls, outsmart the old traps carefully explored keeping their eye out for the main prize. But after at least hours of searching, they weren't having much luck.
The only place left to look was at the heart of the fortress, the old throne room. Getting to there would be easy, if there wasn't a giant piece of ice blocking the way. Sure, they could've melted it, but the ice was the only support the ceiling had to keep it from collapsing on them.
So they had to do it the hard way, by crawling on all fours through a narrow passage underneath the ice.
" I swear that thing better be there... " Evan grunted as he followed behind Willam who was also having a hard time moving.
" It will be cousin have faith. "
" Hey, I'm trying but the last time I went on a wild goose chase with my mom for the Bloom of Eternal Youth it was big bust. " Evan informed.
" You really tried to find it? "
" Yeah along with Lilith. "
" Oh...is that so..." Wilhelm questioned his tone was changing a bit showing his hesitation. " How was she doing? "
" Alright, I guess. " Evan replied as Wilhelm finally got to the other side of the ice and helped his cousin get out. " After finding out the bloom was just a waste of time I bolted. "
" Asked about me I'm assuming? "
" What do you think? " Evan replied bitterly as they continued further into the fortress. " Can we please just focus on what were supposed to get? " Just as he said that Wilhelm stopped and lying before them was a tree with bright blue leaves with red tips and at the bottom of the tree were the very flowers they were looking for.
" Yes! " Without hesitation Evan quickly rushed over to the tree and kneeled down ready to grab some. However, right before he could all the sudden something pushed him back sending the one-eyed warlock flying into Wilhelm who managed to catch him.
" Are you alright? "
" Yeah. What the heck was that!? "
" How dare you! " A voice said echoing through the empty throne room. " You covet the last Gabo flowers on this island and in my kingdom? You miserable thieves! "
Both Evan and Wilhelm looked around to see if they could find the source of the voice but to no avail. Evan called out to the stranger. " You got all wrong! I need these to help with my mother's curse! "
" You cannot disguise your greed. " The voice said. " You want everything, everything for yourselves! Yes! You desire everything as we do! " All the sudden with a sudden flash something phased through the tree.
It was an actual ghost pale blue as ice, wearing the usual red and gold crown. The rest of its body was just made up of its upper robes and lastly it was wielding a long scepter. " And for that, you must die! " Once it made itself known the king ghost swung its scepter forward which stretched outwards slamming down on the ground where Evan and Wilhelm jumped apart separating from one another.
As they landed both of them made their spell circles, Evan shooting off electricity while Wilhelm shot off a series of fireballs. In response to this, the king ghost spun around his scepter to send the attacks much to their surprise.
After that, the phantom raised it up making dozens of energy bolts lash out at the surrounding area around him.
While Wilhelm was running, and dodging Evan was jumping from spot to spot returning fire with his own magic sending ice spheres at the ghost who bolted down to the ground causing the ground to shoot up tearing up the ground making pillars of rocks rise up.
In response to this Evan used both hands to create a very large spell circle and swiped out both arms and in doing so a series of black tendrils went out cutting through the rocks like they were paper into thin pieces.
As they went over to the king ghost it vanished before reappearing behind Evan taking in a deep breath it spewed out some sort of purple mist and seeing this Evan covered his mouth.
Nearby Wilhelm made a spell circle that in turn created a powerful gust of wind that blew away the mist much to Evan's relief. " You oka-Ooof! " As he tried to go over to his cousin the scepter stretched out and the top part of it went into Wilhelms gut sending him crashing into a wall and Evan didn't even get a chance to react because the side of it was slammed into him.
Evan rolled across the ground multiple times before stopping himself by planting his right foot down until he stopped skidding. Once that was done Evan grunted a bit before rushing forward towards his opponent.
Naturally as he ran, he was frivolously creating spell circles sending out bolts of lightning that the king ghost blocked sending them back at him who jumped to avoid the blasts. As he got close to the ghost swung down it's scepter only for a hand made out of darkness to pop out grabbing it and used it to swing himself to land a punch coated in dark energy making it stumble back.
Not letting up two more larger arms grabbed onto its shoulder's and started swinging it around like a ragdoll. " Wilhelm! Now! " Evan yelled out and nearby Wilhelm created three spell circles alighting them together to create a massive surge of fire that the hands tossed the ghost into making it wail out in pain. Now normally despite not being alive spirit's and entities don't feel pain, but with enough magic power it was possible.
Suddenly the flames dispersed revealing the ghost king was still raring to go.
" Oh come on! " Evan groaned in annoyance. " We did all that and it's still
" I am surprised as well. I've heard of the stories of powerful spirits, but never thought I'd face one myself. " Wilhelm commented in a both intrigued and serious tone.
" I will not let you take the last of my treasure! "
" We didn't come to steal your treasure! " Evan replied back. " I need that Gabu plant! "
" Hmm? Is that so? "
" Yes, my mother is cursed and it's getting worse by the way day. And if there's a way to help cure it, then those plants alone can help her coupe with it while were searching. "
Hearing this caught the Ghost King's attention as he put his hand underneath his chin with a questioning look. " Are you sure it's for her and not possibly for you? "
" What? No, I'm not cursed she is.
" Not from where I'm floating. " He replied back making the two cousins exchange a glance and shrugged their shoulders. " I will admit, you both are strong for ones so young. So I'll give you once chance to leave. The choice is yours. "
"And as I said, I'm not leaving without a Gabu plant. Look can't we just work something out. "
" And what would you propose? " The phantom asked crossing his arms.
" How about a trade? "
" A trade you say? " This got the Ghost King thinking. " I suppose that could work. What do you have in your possession worth value for these gabu plants? "
" Uh... " Evan grabbed Wilhelm's shoulder. " Give us a minute. " They walked back a few feet so they could have some room to talk.
" Look through your pack and see what we got. "
A few minutes later they finished sorting through what they had, aside from trash they brought out a few things that could possibly worth trading but both were a bit unsure. The list consisted of an old manga that was stashed in Wilhelms cloak that he entirely forgot, and a fidget spinner.
" I don't even think he'll be into any these... " Wilhelm noted.
" Oh come on, this is like all we got to offer. " Evan said. " And I ain't leaving without one of those plants. "
" You could just offer me your souls when you die! " Ghost King suggested and both warlocks turned to him replying. " No thanks! "
" Ah hell with it. Let's just see where this goes. " Evan grabs the fidget spinner while Wilhelm picks up the manga and approaches the spirit.
" We offer these two items to you. "
" What are they? "
" We have this...manga. " Wilhelm presents the book over the spirit who takes it and looks at with it with curiosity.
" This a book? "
" Yes. It also has pictures showing what happens in the story to. " The red head said as he and his cousin watched the ghost king open a few pages and began to read.
" Hmm...Ooooh...Oh my word...Colossal giants feasting on the inhabitants of the land as if they were cattle and they rise to fight back these monsters...yes...Very interesting. " He closes the manga and glances at the two warlocks. " Are there any more of these? "
" Yeah, I have a bunch of them where I live. "
" Perhaps I would be able to drop by and read sometime? "
" I...guess so. " Evan replied shrugging his shoulders seeing no problem with that since he figured this was the opportunity to getting on the Ghost Kings good side. Wilehlm proceeded to elbow his cousin motioning him to give the spirit his second offering.
" Oh and also, we offer this fidget spinner. "
" A fid what? "
" A fidget spinner " He shows the ghost king the said toy that caught his attention.
" What do you do with it? "
" You just spin it. " Holding the center with two fingers he spun it and gave it to the ghost king who mimicked what Evan did.
" Ah...Very nice. " He started spinning it faster. " I like this... This is amazing... " He said tranced by the small toy.
" So, are we fine to- " The Ghost King cut Wilhelm off. " Yeah, yeah. Sure, go ahead. " The spirit said keeping his gaze focus on the fidget spinner. So ultimately, they went over to the tree and grabbed a few Gabu plants but made sure they didn't take all of them just to be fair.
" I don't know about you, but I'm ready to get the hell out of here. " Evan whispered to cousin who nodded in agreement. " As am I. " As they left leaving the ghost king with his new toy Evan noticed something out of the corner of his eye.
It was a small spark indicating this was on the sports where his electrical attacks had landed. But something was off and upon kneeling down he couldn't believe what he was seeing.
" No...way... " Instantly he took out a small piece of paper out from his pocket before calling out to his cousin. " Hey, Wilhelm!? Got anything to write with!? "
After waiting a whole day for the ferry Evan and Wilhelm returned home and their first stop was going over to Saul.
The orc was seen extracting the liquid's from the gabu plants literally squishing them into a large bowl that boiled from a flame underneath it. Once he was done, he grounded them up until they were like paste before pouring into the bowl and mixing it in. In the process he snapped his fingers and croak was heard.
Something hopped right over to the orc, was something that resembled a brown African bullfrog with green spots, a set of small horns and a couple of small spikes on its back. It was holding a plant in its mouth croaking once again signaling it was there. " Thank you, Harold. " Saul said taking the plant and made a blue spell circle that made a series of glass vials float over to him.
Turning off the flame Saul extracted the contents of the bowl and pour them into the vials putting a corck on each one. " There we are... " He turned over to Evan. " As promised, your payment for helping Wilhelm gather ingredients. " These should work much better then what she usually takes. But use them wisely. "
" Will do. " Evan said taking the freshly made elixirs and stuffing them into his backpack. " Thanks again Saul. "
" No worries. Just tell your mom I said hi and it'd be nice if she could come over sometime. "
" I'll make sure of that. " Evan said walking out of the door when he did the orc sighed sitting on his chair. When he did the frog palisman hopped on his shoulder croaking. Saul smiled a bit gently petting the amphibian.
A while later after a long walk the sun was now setting and not to long after his mother and roommate returned home from ' a recent adventure' as his mother's student dubbed it as.
Right now, we see Evan outside sitting on a bench made out of wood overlooking a nice view of the underworlds ocean with the stars glimmering in the night sky and the moon light reflecting from the water. Evan sighed in content enjoying the peace.
" It is a nice night. " Evan didn't need to turn to know it was Luz walking up from behind him. " Mind if I join you? "
" I didn't say no. Did I? " She giggled at his response sitting beside him.
" So/So... " They both paused seeing they spoke at the same time much to their surprise.
Evan cleared his throat a bit clearing the air a bit. " You first. "
Luz took his offer. " So how did the trip with Wilhelm go? "
" Not to bad. " Evan replied. " Went to another island, gathered potion ingredients went to raid an old fortress infested with ghouls. Fought against a Ghost King who most likely will be coming around her from time to time for fun but ultimately, I got what I needed. "
" What did you get? "
" You remember how mom said she had the curse under manageable control? " She nodded her head. " Honestly...I think she's lying. So I took this opportunity to have stronger elixirs made. So Luz, would you mind not telling her? "
" Normally...I don't like doing that... " She admitted with a bit of hesitance. " But I understand. You're just worried and scarred for your mom. I know would be if I were in your shoes. Also Evan? "
" Yeah? "
" I'm not gonna try and pry into your business and just wanted to let you know that whenever you feel the need to get something off your shoulders. Were here for you. "
Evan smiled hearing those word greatly appreciating what she said and patted her on the shoulder. " Thank you...So? How'd the last three days treat you?
" Well, actually not to bad. It was kind of relaxing to have a break, but it was kind of boring without you around. "
" And then what? "
" You remembered when I let Amity borrow my Luzura book? "
" Briefly. " Evan answered. " Go on. "
She started explaining. " Well after we met up I found out that apparently if I didn't know more than spell, I'd be put in the baby class. "
" Uh-huh, Uh-huh. " Evan nodded showing he was listening.
" I went back to Eda begging her to teach me a second spell. I did that, we went to the knee. "
" Ah, the knee. Yep I know what you're talking about I've been there. "
" When we got there it all sounded so cool at first but then things just got...eh... " She rubbed her arm nervously. " Weird. "
" Define weird. " Evan said practically testing her to blow him away. " Eda wanted me to follow the old ways by eating snow... "
"Hm-hm. And? "
" Amity was there and I started to freak out from embarrassment. "
" Over what? "
" I might've panicked after learning about the hexside entrance exam. "
" Ah, okay. So you had one of your 'episodes'. " Evan air quoted with his fingers making Luz smile nervously because what he said was true. " Continue. "
" Eda said I had to learn from the island. I didn't know what she meant by that, but after a while I had doubts and did something stupid. "
Evan gave her a flat look. " What'd you do? "
" I...snuck off stealing Amity's training wand, got scolded by Eda made the Slitherbeast mad at me for blasting at it. Eda, Edric and Emira were kidnapped while Amity was mad and locked me in some kind of prison while she went after them. "
" But on the bright side, I found this. " Taking a long piece of wood nearby her she started to draw in the dirt.
It was a circle with a large diamond with a line down the center, sat on another line across the bottom of the circle. Across the diamond is a curved line and sometimes a smaller diamond is included at the bottom.
" Is that a new glyph? "
" Yep. Check it out. " Tapping the center of it with the stick a small pillar of ice emerged from it.
" So it's ice? "
" Yeah. When I used my light glyph, it went up into the sky and it formed in the stars and then this just appeared on a snowflake on my glove. And thanks to this one, I was able to help save your mom and Amity's siblings in the process. Heck, I even used this to bring use home the whole way. "
" That's cool. " Evan proceeds to gently take the stick out from her grasp. " Because I apparently found something myself. " He said before he started tracing in the dirt. For a moment Luz watched with interest and confusion but soon she gasped in excitement.
What Evan had drawn was glyph of his own. The center of it had lightning bolt and on each side of the bolts corners were two smaller circles.
" Evan you found a glyph too!? "
" Yeah, I found as I was leaving the fortress...it was where one of my spells hit the ground. " As he explained it Evan proceeded to tap the center of it the same way he'd always see her do it. Upon doing so a volt of electricity surged from the ground.
She couldn't help but squeal in excitement. " That's so cool! "
" I know! " Evan replied back feeling the same way she did before she paused slowly turning to him.
" You know what this means? " She asked in a whisper.
" No? " Evan shrugged his shoulders before he was caught in a bone crushing hug. " Now I have three spells! Yes! Yes! Thank you! Thank you! "
" Okay, okay! You're welcome now let me go! " Evan said feeling the air squeezing out of him rapidly tapping her shoulder which didn't seem to do to much.
A little while later after everything settled down we now see Eda reading a book in her nest with a mug filled with late apple blood nearby on a the nightstand.
Nearby Evan knocked on the door getting her attention. " Hey mom? You got a sec? "
" Everything okay? "
" Oh yeah, I just got something on my mind. "
For a moment she was surprised but cut the thought after she knew this was the chance she was waiting for. " Well, c'mon hop in the nest. " She said patting on a spot scotching over a little bit. " Tell mama what the problem is. "
He explains as he got into the next. " I just-ow! " He paused lifting up and pulled an old rat skeleton. " Mom when the heck are you ever gonna get a real bed? "
" What's with this? It's a lot more comfortable than you think. " Eda replied back. " But anyways, you were saying? "
He sits down now. " I just keeping going over what happened three days ago. "
" You mean with the nightmare? " He nodded.
" Yeah, I've been really thinking hard on what the heck it's supposed to mean. "
" Well Evan sometimes dreams are just dreams. They don't always mean anything. "
" I know but mom, I think it does have a meaning... " Evan gripped his right shoulder showing how uneased he was. " And that's what I'm so scared about... "
" What happened in the dream? "
" It's hard to explain... "
" Evan... "
" Mom I'm serious... " He turned to Eda looking directly into her eyes. " I don't know how...Which is why. I...I think it's better if you see it yourself. "
" What? " She was shocked to hear this. " You want me to browse at your memories? Evan that's just... " But as she was going to continue Evan grabbed her hand with a pleading look in his eye.
" Please...It's already going to be hard enough have to see all that again. " With a sigh Eda gave in. " Alright..." She proceeded to make a spell circle. " Okay, Evan just lean your head towards me, close your eyes and just calm yourself, okay? " He nodded and closed his eyes. Eda did the same and leaned to another connecting their foreheads. When they did a bright flash of light enveloped the room.
The spell Eda used was one that was recommended never to be used. One where the caster can see the targets memories in their mind. As much as she didn't want to, the owl lady had to find out what was troubling her son especially if he was pleading to her out of fear.
With a flash of light, we see Eda with her eyes closed all around her was solid white and for a moment the white was replaced with a much more different environment
When Eda opened her eyes, she gazed around at her surroundings which appeared to be some sort of gloomy dark forest. She glanced around her new surroundings a bit. " Huh, okay. This is the start, now where is-Oh there he is. " She noticed her son walking down a stone pathway making going towards an opening in the forest and there was one thing she noticed he seemed kind of depressed because the whole time he had his head down even after they exited the forest to a light in the distance.
She proceeded to follow him through and pretty soon everything became bright and sunny, the area had now become a field of beautiful flowers and grass with a gentle breeze blowing through.
" Whoa...This is nice...Really nice... " Even Eda had to admit the very area she was in actually reminded her of a spot Phil used to take him years ago to have picnics including a few when Evan was born. Her attention turned to her son seeing him walking down a slope she made haste to follow him.
While watching him continue to walk he stopped walking keeping his head down. Eda then turns to the right upon hearing the sound of footsteps. And there was Luz? She was wearing a white sun dress with light blue ruffles in the middle, short leaves that reached to her elbows and lastly, she was wearing a sun hat with a large brim.
" Wha? " The Owl lady watched as she watched the human make her way over to Evan taking her hand, putting underneath his chin to make him look at her. Luz didn't say anything but only smiled which in turn made Evan widen his eye in surprise before he smiled as well. She held out her hand and Evan hesitantly accepted it, when he did Luz started dragging him away running through the flowers.
Eda made quick work to follow them and stopped. The reason why was because now the two of them were at a large crystal blue lake and they were dancing. Holding her hand, he was twirling her around a few times making her laugh as he did both were dancing away to their hearts content.
The Owl Lady just watched on disbelief. And seeing this reminded her of the times when she and her husband started first dating. And then it hit her, ever since Luz started living with them after choosing to stay at the Boiling Isle's he'd been acting more different. After Phil disappeared Evan had been depressed, and Eda managed to help her son coupe with that fact, because it was hurting her. But when Luz came in everything just changed, he was more open, way more confident than ever, hell he was going to Hexside for crying out loud, and it was all because of her...She'd never seen him as happy as he was in a long time.
Eda smiled watching the scene continue unfold right as both teens slipped and fell on their ends. Despite that they both laughed. The Owl Lady realized, that her owlet was in love and there was no mistaking it. So it was there she grew confused, why would Evan be afraid of this dream? Soon she found out the reason why.
Things soon took a drastic turn as the sky suddenly turned black with the sun being replaced with crimson red moon. She gasped in shock, her pupils dialed back in what she was seeing, the sight was so ungodly horrible.
There was a large red pool on the ground and there was a loud crunching noise and the very same creature Eda saw in her dreams whenever she'd have those episodes on trying to know who cursed her. It was hunched over eating something before it stopped and slowly turned and much to Eda's shock Luz was in it's hands, she already knew where the red pool was coming from, it was her students blood.
And the very same creature turned to her emitting a very intimidating growl that sent shivers down her spine but made it more horrifying was that it had Evan's face the same state like she was in her owl beast form. All she could do was stand and watch as it leaned back it's head and a roar that' shake the entire earth.
As the spell ended Eda recoiled back a bit a look of shock and horror was plastered on her face while Evan was on the verge of tears and all Eda could do was hug and comfort son once again doin her best to try and erase what she just saw.
But she couldn't, that image was forever stained in her memory. And her concern for her only child only grew.
Somewhere else deep within the emperors castle we see Lilith walking alongside Kikimora and next to them was a guard wearing a golden mask.
They stopped in front of a large wooden gate that soon opened and inside was a cell, both sides of the wall had a torch lit and you couldn't see what was being held inside either. But you could hear the sounds of chains rattling indicating their was movement.
" Attention. Prisoner 0108. "
The chains rattled again a bit. " Huh, and I was just starting to enjoy the silence to. " A voice responded back.
" You know why were here. " Kikimora said threateningly. " Did my last visit loosen your tongue? "
" And did you enjoy that little gift I left you? " The figure asked making Kikimora growl as she clenched her right fist, indicating where 'the gift' was left.
" I also see you brought company with you this time. Must be important if the Head of the Emperor's Coven and all mighty Golden Guard deign to grace with their presence. "
From the shadows point of view, the figure focuses his attention on the Golden Guard. " Tell me...You still tripping over tryin' to impress our so called beloved emperor? Like a good little lapdog? "
" At least I'm not the one who's chained up. "
" Uh-huh. Well, why don't you take these chains off of me? " The stranger challenged. " You ought to see me when I get angry. Cause if I did, then you would get an ass whoopin'. "
If you could see behind the mask, the guard would be rolling his eyes. Despite being agitated Kikimora calmed herself down and continued to speak.
" One of our scouts had unknowingly spotted the Devil Eye traveling with a human to one of the forbidden ruins. Why were they there? "
The figure scoffed a little. " Why would I know that? "
" You know a lot of the islands ancient history, don't you? " The Golden Guard questioned.
" A lot more then most of the smucks today. " The figure replied back. " And I wonder why? " He asked sarcastically.
" Look... " Lilith finally spoke up. " If you help us, we'll help you. Tell us where they'll go next and I'll talk to our emperor- "
" Bellos won't let me go Lilith and he won't let you kill me either. " The figure said cutting her off. " You've got nothing to offer me. So take your question's, take your threats, take that midget, the gold brat and piss off! " Kikimora growled in irritation stomping away.
" I'd probably suggest you watch yourself sleeping tonight. " The Golden Guard advised as he walked away.
" Good, I'll be waiting then. " The figure retorted back and soon enough it was Lilith who remained. " Shouldn't you be joining them? "
" Why do you have to make this so hard? "
The figure inside the prison scoffed. " Oh please, coming from the one who screwed up. That's rich. "
" I'm only trying to correct what I've done. "
" Trying to own up to what you did and making things worse are two different things. " The figure said in a scolding tone. " I'm honestly still surprised you actually still believe him. "
" No he will honor his deal. "
" Ha! You know at one time you were the smartest out of all of us but now look how low you've fallen...Get the hell out of here. " The figure said making Lilith sigh as she walked off and for a moment she stopped in her steps without turning back.
" I'm sorry...You know that don't you? "
" I do...But it ain't me who you should be saying that to. " The figure said watching as Lilith closed the door behind her.
To be continued
As for Saul his voice actor is none other then Andrew Morgado.
Yep you read right, that's his voice actor and I think it down right fits what I have in mind. Not to mention if you couldn't obviously tell Saul is based off WOW Orc because let's face it those guys are badass. Plus the voice actor I've chosen for him he plays the voice for one Orc in particular.
As for Ghost King he's voice actor is none other Kevin Michael Richardson. Yep, that guy and I'm sure some of you know some famous character's he voices for.
I also do apologize for not being able to update yesterday because my power went out.
Also I got a question for you all,
Would you like me to perhaps do a side/prequel to Mysterious Magic? Focusing on Phil and Eda in the old days?
While I'm at it, I'm thinking of adding another possible story after my kipo story is done.
I'm thinking of another Oc Ultra story.

Heheh. Yeah I enjoyed doing those shorts and don't worry there'll be some interesting stuff. And the reason why both detest Lilith, especially Wilhelm it'll be explained. As for my Kipo story, yeah, I'll be trying to update that one sometime this month.
Also thanks but no thanks on the oc character for this story, nice idea. but not really interested.
