Here's the next chapter of Mysterious Magic and here we have another Oc chapter. I get that some of you wanted me to do more and stick to the cannon side of the show, but hey, I ain't really bothered by it. And neither should any of you.
Speaking of which, originally, I was gonna post this yesterday, but do to some stuff happening and me falling asleep, wasn't able too.
But yesterday officially marks this story second anniversary. On July 18th two years ago, I posted the very first chapter of Mysterious Magic which also marked the debut of Evan Clawthorne the son of Edalyn Clawthorne the Owl Lady herself that also marked the beginning of new adventures.
But enough of that, let's have the story continue on shall we?
Chapter 20
Surfs Up' Aqua Lagoona
As of right now another day of school had ended, Evan and Luz had only returned home half an hour ago and after doing their assigned homework, they were just hanging out doing there own thing.
currently we see Luz on the couch humming happily enjoying a good book that she found in Evans room. Then suddenly, while she was reading, she felt something plop down her lap. Moving the book over she figured it'd be King but instead it was Evan in his Carrin Terrier dog form.
She raised an eyebrow in confusion. " Evan? What are you doing? "
" I got an ich down my back, I can't get it. And it's annoying me. "
She gained one of her looks gushing over how cute it was. " Awww~ You want to me too? "
" Do so. " The one eyed dog answered before Luz started to do her work. He groaned a bit enjoying it very much. " Ah...right there...Oh thank you...Don't stop...Thank you~ "
She chuckled a bit at this before she stopped. " You're welcome. Was there anything else you needed? "
" Actually, yes. Quick question you have a swimsuit by any chance? "
This made her blink in confusion a bit taken by surprise with that question. " Uh, no. Why do you ask? Do you want to go swimming or something? "
" Nope even better. " Evan answered as he glanced up. " We're going to the major place of beaches, breath taking oceans that can sort of kill ya. Aqua Lagoona. "
" Cool! What's Aqua Lagoona? "
" I'm glad you asked. " Evan proceeded to jump off of Luz's lap and in the process within a puff of smoke he changed back into his normal look. " Remember that Warp Key Bat Queen gave me a while back? "
" Oh, right that yeah I remember. " She nervously rubbed the back of her head. " The same time we almost-You know. "
" Relax, we've moved on from that. " The one eyed warlock reassured her much to Luz's relief as he continued explaining. " Well, you see certain keys allow us to travel to certain places and after doing some digging. I learned that's where the key will take us. "
" What are you two talking about in here? " Eda questioned walking in wearing her house attire with King right beside her. " Well whatever it is spill. "
" Evan found out where that Warp Key will let us go. Aqua Lagoona was it? "
" Oooh, Aqua Lagoona? " The owl lady chuckled hearing this smirking a little bit in remembrance. " That's me and his dad spent our second honeymoon. And that, was a good one. Really good... "
" Ah, right. I do remember you saying that before. So mom will you be coming? "
" Nah sorry, as tempting as it would be, I got a couple errands to run. "
Hearing this took Evan by surprise a bit. " You sure? Because you usually never pass up an opportunity like this. "
" Yeah, I'm sure. Thanks for asking anyways, Evie. " She said passing by him and ruffled his hair.
He turned to the small residential canine. " What about you King? "
" Fat pass. No. " The canine replied back quickly walking into the kitchen confusing Luz.
Evan explained the reason. " He sort of got lost the last time we went there and by lost, I mean eaten. He almost got eaten by sea serpent. "
" Ah, ok. That makes more sense. So when are we going? "
" How's about Saturday? "
" That's the day after tomorrow...I'm in! " Luz replied instantly giving him a high five before their was a silent pause between them. " What do you want to do? "
Evan thought for a split second. " Wanna glance through the boardgames we got? "
" Yeah, I don't mind. "
The next day at Hexside we see Luz in the plant track class following Willow. Ever since she got Bump's special permission to learn through all nine tracks she had been living her top fantasy attending a school that taught magic and she was enjoying every second of it.
The two of them arrived at a large green house.
" And this is where we have more of rare types of plants. " Willow said opening the door to show off all sorts of plant life that were in there. A lot that ranged from those that resembled some she'd seen in the human world, some were also beautiful, and others looked deadly, the kind that'd eat you alive.
" Wow...And everyone in the plant track is able to just come in here? "
" Well, yeah, but only as long as were careful. But the bright side of it is we get to communicate and learn more about nature/ " Willow explained as they passed by a man eating fly trap that almost gobbled them up.
" Hey, how you doing? " A voice greeted them making Luz glance around in confusion while Willow was unfazed. " I'm right here toots. " She turned to see a tree with a face, that also included eyes and a mouth much to the human girls surprise.
" Wow...I'm actually talking to a tree..." The female human exclaimed still surprised by this since she's only seen this sort of thing on movies rather instead in real life up till now.
" Yeah, this one of the few rare tree's that grow in the underworld. The Grand Oaks. "
A question popped into her head. " Um excuse me? But I have a question. "
" Ok shoot. " The tree said.
" If one of you falls and there's no one else around, do you really make a noise? "
The tree gained a bored expression. " Are you kidding? Scott fell down last night and he hasn't shut up about it since. "
" Sure stand there and bitch! " They look a tree who broke off from the rest of it's body where a few students were trying to tend to it. " But would any you take the time to help meee!? " He screamed.
" Oooh-oh, I'm playing the worlds tiniest violin Scott. " Another tree nearby teased as he used one of his branches to imitate the said instrument earning a giggle from Luz.
" Wow, Willow you were right, communicating with nature is fun. "
" I told you. "
A little while later the bell had rang signaling it was the start of lunch time and everyone came out of there classes. As Luz and Willow emerged, they saw Evan rushing through the hall carrying a few books in his arms.
" Hey Evan, you wanna join us for lunch!?
" Sorry but I can't talk right now! " The one eyed warlock said running by them. " Gotta finish these things so I don't have to do it at home! "
At the same time when he went past them Gus walked up next to them with an eyebrow raised in confusion. " Luz what's up with Evan? "
" Oh he's just making sure were prepared for a trip were taking during the weekend. "
" Cool. Where are you going? "
" According to him, someplace called Aqua Lagoona. "
" Aqua Lagoona!? " Both witch and warlock exclaimed at the same time
" You heard of it? "
" Heard of it? " Gus went up to her putting his hands on her arms. " That place is like a paradise! Getting to that place is almost impossible! "
" I also heard they have water that doesn't boil like here, with breath taking sceneries. " Willow added in. " I've wanted to go there for years, but usually winning tickets to go there only happens once a year. "
" Yeah, that's right. " Gus said as they turn their attention back to Luz. " How are you two able to go there? "
" Apparently through that warp key Bat Queen gave him. "
" That what it's for? "
" Ah man! You're so lucky! " Gus commented.
" Well...maybe you two could come? " Luz suggested instantly perking up her friend's attention.
" Really? " Willow questioned getting a nod from Luz.
" Whoo! Oh yeah! " Gus cried out in excitement running down the halls.
" Also Willow? I don't have a swimsuit. Do you know any place where I could find one? "
" Actually, I know a place. We could stop by after school if you want. " She suggested.
" Ok, perfect we'll do that. "
" When are we going? "
" Tomorrow? In that case I better let my parents know ahead of time. " She starts walking and notices Luz wasn't following. " You coming? "
" Yeah, I'll catch up you guys in a bit. "
" Ok. " She walks off
After Willow left Luz face palmed at herself realizing what had just happened. " Aw man...Luz what did you just do? "
At the Owl House in the kitchen, we see Evan finish up packing up a few bags for the trip, like extra food, water all the essentials needed. Poking her head nervously into the kitchen seeing the one-eyed warlock and was a nervous wreck considering what transpired at school.
But knowing this had to be addressed otherwise she'd suffer a very angry 'Evan's wrath'. So taking a deep breath she mustered up her bravery and walked inside calling out to him. " Hey Evan? "
" Yeah? " He replied back while continuing doing his work not looking away as she entered.
" Can I ask you something? "
" Sure. " He still continued working.
" Say, if we were to travel with more people do you think we could manage? "
" I think we could. But I mean it's not like were gonna have more company, right? "
Evan paused at what he was doing and looked over to Luz who nervously smiled. " No...No..No... " Evan shook his head realizing what was happening gripping the sides of his head ruffling up his hair in frustration. " No! Luz! "
" I'm sorry! " She cried out knowing she messed up while groaned ruffling up his hair at a fast rate.
" Why'd you do this again?! "
" Again? " She raised an eyebrow in confusion. " When? "
Evan gave her a flat look. " Really? You already forgot The Moon Light Conjuring? "
" Oh... " She chuckled nervously rubbing the back of her head in embarrassment. " That...But it all went good, and we only got into a little bit of trouble. "
He hummed narrowing his eyes a bit. " Here's a reminder. " He holds up his fist and brings up one finger. " We brought my home to life taking it on a joyride... " He raises a second finger. " We got caught by demon hunters who almost got Hooty into a bucther shop. " He holds up a third finger. " Oh, wait, and the best part you, Willow, Gus almost died and I nearly got captured! Did I leave anything else out!? "
" Okay, okay. " She put her hands up in defense. " You made your point. I'm sorry, but I can't help it there our friends. What's the harm in it? "
Evan gained an unsure face doing the gesture with his right hand. " Eh...yeah...About that, I don't really consider them my friends. Their more like, associates. "
" What!? " She was shocked to hear this. " Evan! "
" Well sheesh... " He shrugged his shoulders in response. " Just because you talk to them more while we're at school and on the crystal ball, don't mean I'm included in the group. "
" But...Evan...you already are. "
" No not really. " He shook his head. " I barely even talk to them as it is. You just now noticed. "
She gains a determined look. " Well in that case. Maybe it was a good thing they are coming. This'll be an opportunity for us to get closer.
" Oh no! " Evan fires back pointing a finger at her. " Don't try to be turning the tables on me! You invited them again, without even letting me have my say in it, just like before. "
" Again I'm sorry! " She apologized again. "But Evan this could be a nice bonding experience. Please? For me? "
He gave her another flat expression. " No. "
She gave him a puppy eye look. " Please!? "
He still refused to back down. " No! "
" PLEASE!? "
" NO! "
" Please!? Please!? Please!? Please!? "
" No! No! No! No! " Evan screamed back before they both screamed at once before covering themselves realizing how quickly their disagreement escalated and were embarrassed.
" Please? " She asked nervously before Evan got into her face.
" Fine...You happy? "
" Where are you going? "
" To the store. Because evidently, we don't have enough food, and if things weren't bad enough, I'm out of my damn cereal. " The one eyed warlock answered as he exited out of the room.
The next day earlier that morning we see Evan and Luz sitting by the edge of the Owl House's cliff. We see Luz happily humming away looking forward to the day ahead of them while Evan who was both angry and bored was for some reading a Goosebumps book.
" Luz! Evan! " Willow's voice was heard gaining Luz's attention while Evan sighed tossing the book aside.
" About damn time. " He muttered getting up
" You both ready for this? "
" Yes I am! " Gus said happily yelling out while Willow smiled over to the one eyed warlock.
" Evan I'm really glad that you let us come along on this trip with you two. "
" Oh yeah...sure...No problem. " Evan replied giving a sideway glare to Luz who looked away whistling pretending she didn't see it. Seeing that he might've well get it over with he slung his pack over and started walking. " Come on. "
Minutes later they stopped at a small beach the same one where Eda found the corpse of the Trash Slug.
" Why'd we stop? " Luz asked before Evan replied.
" This is how we'll get to Aqua Lagoona. " They all looked around in confusion.
" Where is it? " Gus questioned.
" It's coming. " Evan said before suddenly a brief flash in the distance appeared. The group watched as Evan raised up the warp key which began to glow brightly in a blue light. He then extended it out forward and twisted it into the air. A loud click was heard, and Evan took it out.
When it was done, a blue swirling portal appeared.
" Whoa... " Luz was surprised to see this.
" This is it. " He turns to the others. " Also whatever you do, don't scream and don't talk. Just leave the talking part to me. " He proceeded to enter while the rest of the group glanced at one another wondering what he was talking about before following him in there.
When they emerged out the portal, they found themselves on a large stone podium and all around them was a pitch-black void and up in front of them was a jade-colored gate covered in strange and unusual symbols. There were also two pillars in front of it with strands of energy swirling
" What is this place? " Willow asked as she, Gus and Luz glanced around the area in awe.
" The Chamber of The Pathfinder. " Evan answered. " Speaking of which, he should be coming...right about...now. "
A low groan was heard spooking the group minus Evan and looked up to the source of the noise.
What appeared before them was an odd-looking creature, it had a long blue head resembling something like a xenomorph from Alien. It had in total six arms, and six large gray feathered wings and on each wing were three small orange eyes, and with there being six wings the total amount of eyes it had totaled up to 18. It was wearing a dark green robe with red rings seen on its sleeves.
Nervously and holding back the urge to scream Luz slowly got behind Evan as did the rest of her friends. " . ? "
" The Pathfinder himself, this is his domain. " Evan explained before the being took notice of the group speaking but in a strange & unusual booming voice.
Luz tilted her head in confusion. " Huh? "
" Give me a minute. " Evan cleared his throat and started to speak in the same weird booming voice as the entity before them. But because the other three had no idea what they were saying they could only watch as the one-eyed warlock stopped talking.
From the looks of it, the Pathfinder looked pleased continuing to speak in his unusual language.
" I still got it, he remembers me. " He continued speaking in the strange language holding up the key. Upon seeing this the eyes on the Pathfinder's wings glowed as the key levitated to him. Now in it's grasp the strange being brought out it's long upper top arms and its lower arms holding out a finger tracing a circle allowing the key to envelope in energy before it vanished.
" What's he doing? "
" Relax, it's just part of the process. " Evan said before the Pathfinder turned it's attention over to Luz pointing it's middle right hand at her making Evan hum with interest. " Is that so? "
The human girl looked over to Evan. " What'd he say? "
" Nothing special, he thinks your cute. "
" Oh. " Naturally this caught her off guard and blushed in embarrassment. " Um, thank you? "
The Pathfinder proceeded to hover aside motioning them to the door still speaking in it's booming language. Evan spoke once more in a fashion that probably meant 'thank you' and jerked his head a few times telling the others to follow him.
" Alright guys, listen. This is a one-way trip. We all enter together, and no matter what, we all have to come out together, because once the door is closed it will only open until the same warp key for this dimension is found. Got it? Because I'm serious, and I need to hear you all say it. "
The three of them all quickly nodded their heads confirming they understood what he was saying. They proceeded to follow Evan who walked up to the jade doors as they opened the area around flashed very brightly causing them to close their eyes from the intensity.
After giving it a few seconds the group opened up their eyes. Now they were inside of a cave?
" Is this Aqua Lagoona? "
" No, not this spot. " Evan replied with a smirk as he walked forward to the opening of the cave itself. As they got closer to it, the group started to feel gentle breeze's, birds chirping and the sounds of wave crashing.
The moment they stepped out of the cave they were in awe of the sight before them. The area they were in wasn't on the Titan anymore, instead they were on a beach, a very tropical looking one, with palm tree's and everything, including an ocean one that wasn't boiling.
Even though there wasn't supposed to be company Evan couldn't but smirk crossing his arms with a pleased look. Happy to know he blew away their minds.
" Everyone, welcome to Aqua Lagoona. "
Meanwhile back on the Boiling Isle's we see Eda flying on her staff. Her destination was Gloommuck Swamp. Once she got above the tree line she spotted Saul's home.
As she landed, Eda spotted her husband's childhood friend out in the front sharpening what appeared to be a small ivy trimmer. Upon seeing who arrived Saul gained a smile placing down the tool he was sharpening walking up to the witch.
" Hey, Saul. How doing? "
" Alright, now give me a hug you little trouble maker. " Eda
Eda couldn't help but smile and chuckle at this and went over to give him what he wanted patting him on the back. " Good to see ya you big bastard. "
" Eh, don't cut yourself off to short. " Saul as they broke the hug. " If you were able to get taller, eventually you'd reach up to my chin. "
" And let you not be the big one in the group? Nah, I'm good. " Eda waved Saul off as he opened the door motioning her to come inside.
" You want to come in? "
" Sure. " She entered into the house and right behind the orc lowered down his head while closing the door.
" Want some refreshments? "
" No thanks. " She answered sitting down setting down her staff and when she did Owlbert came to life looking around and heard a croak turning around to see Saul's toad palisman Paul who hooted greeting his fellow palisman glad to see him again.
Saul proceeded to sit down. " It's been a while, Eda. "
She nodded confirming it. " Yes it has. Not since that one time me and Evan helped you sneak off supplies to the next island over. "
" Well, believe me, those people needed it. You and Evan did a good thing. "
" Yeah, we did. Plus we got paid your half of the job. "
" Hey, I maybe an orc, but I keep my word. "
Eda raised an eyebrow in curiosity. " You've been to the west isles lately? "
The orc paused going thinking on it. " Um...Not since I started setting up shop about 16 years ago. You were there. "
" I don't remember that. "
" I do. " The orc commented.
" Where Wilhelm? I should've bumped into him by now. "
" He went out to go fishing. " Saul replied back as he gobbled up an apple in a single bit. " So, what brings you here? "
Eda narrowed her eyes and brought out three vials with kork's on them. Upon seeing them the orc grabbed one of the empty vials making sure not to crush it with his strength.
"Oh...Ok. You here for a refill? "
She nodded getting a sigh from the orc as he stood up. " C'mon Eda, follow me. "
Back with the group nearby a changing shack we see Evan setting up an umbrella post
" Hey Evan? " Gus called out to him.
" Yeah? "
" Think you could make some ice? " He questioned gesturing to a big, large round bucket. In response Evan made a spell circle and from the spell circle a large chunk of ice landed inside the bucket.
" That answer your question? " Evan replied as he made another spell circle making a small hammer and picker appear and started using it to break up the ice.
" It does. " Gus said as he started to help distribute the ice once it was evened out he started putting in the beverages into the bucket so they can cool up. " So, Evan you've been here before? "
" Yeah, with my dad, my mom and King. "
" Did you guys make this thing? " Gus questioned glancing over to the changing shack.
" No, that's always been there. You see the only sort of people that get here are the rich and powerful, using their connections to get to this place. That was built for those who've managed to arrive here. But a word of warning Gus, be careful swimming here and don't go too far off away from shore. These waters aren't' always friendly.
A low growl was heard from the distance making Gus glance over to see a long scaly body slithering through the waters. " Good to know... "
" Sorry for the wait. " Luz said drawing in Evan and Gus's attention.
Both Luz and Willow emerged wearing swimsuits.
Luz was wearing a dark blue one-piece swimsuit with purple and white lines.
As for Willow she had a yellow top with a red flower with a matching skirt.
Once they stepped out Luz stretched out her arms taking in the feeling of the area she was in. When she done the human girl glanced over to Willow.
" I gotta say, that swimsuit you're wearing is pretty cute.
" Thanks. You'res turned out not to bad as well. "
As they were talking Gus glanced over to Evan and for a brief moment his face was extremly blushed and there was a small amount of drool coming from the edge of his mouth?
Gus tilted his head in confusion upon seeing this. " Evan? You ok? "
" Hm? Oh! " Seeing what was happening Evan slapped his cheeks to snap himself out of it. " Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. All good. "
Minutes later Luz sighed in content enjoying the feeling of the refreshing water she was in. Sitting on a round rube next to Willow and Gus.
" This is nice. "
" I know...aside from pools and the showers this is the first time I've been water that doesn't boil. " Willow agreed.
" It's almost like we're actually getting a break from all the crazy stuff that happens. " Gus commented as he drank from his soda bottle.
" Duh-duh-duh-duh " They all look over to see Evan swimming around wearing a shark fin on his head. " Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh. I'm half shark, half warlock. Don't come near me or I'll eat you. Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh. "
" What are you doing? " Gus questioned.
" Imitating Jaws. "
" It's a movie. " Luz explained
Willow and Gus: " Ooooh! "
" Evan there aren't any sharks here, right? " Luz asked nervously.
" Not that I know of. " The one-eyed warlock replied before we see two large sharks right below them.
" Hey you want to? "
" Nah, I need to lose some weight. " The other shark said replying to his friend.
Back on the Boiling Isles we see Eda watching Saul do his work which consisted of him crushing up berries and grinding up herbs.
" I gotta say Saul, your business is doing pretty well. " Eda commented.
" I manage, it somehow. I got connections all over the Isle's, a lot of them are good folk that know. "
" Good to hear. "
" So, you still running that stand that sells human goods right? "
" Uh-huh. "
" How's that treating you? "
" Sometimes shitty and other times ok. "
Saul hummed a little bit." So, you've had your occasional run ins with Lilith?
" Yeah, here and there.
" How about that one guy, Warden Wrath still stalking you? "
" Pff, no. " Eda replied waving it off. " I hardly hear anything about that guy anymore.
" How about that human girl? The one Wilhelms tells me about, from what Evan told him. What was her name? "
" Luz. "
" Ah, that was it. That was her name. " Saul said before moving the contents of his crushed herbs into a glass container. " Not to be to blunt Eda nor get into your business but did you really make a deal with her? "
" Yeah, I did. She wanted to learn magic, and seeing that I pretty much welled owed her. Thought it'd be the right thing to do. "
" You know others would disagree with that one. "
" Like I care what they say. Everyone wants to be in line and kiss Belos's ass all day good for them. I want no part of it. "
" Feeling's mutual there. " The orc agreed as he continued his work. " Tell me Eda, does...Evan know about your curse? "
" Yeah. "
" And have you told Evan the truth? "
Seeing this Saul couldn't but groan in frustration slamming his palm down on the table making it rock and shake like hell. " Eda what the hell is wrong with you? How long are you gonna keep this dragging on? "
" What the hell am I supposed to do then!? Huh Saul!? What!? "
" You already know the answer to that one. " Saul said shaking his head having a hard time believing what he was hearing. " I mean, Phit, Phil, Hilda even Lilith would agree. "
" Oh come on, really you're bringing my rule sucking sister into this? "
Saul pointed a finger at her. " You know I'm right. " He said before frowning a bit. " Also, please don't hate me. "
" Why would I hate you for? "
" Someone's here to pay you a visit. "
" Who? "
" That would be me. " A voice said making Eda gasp before her look of surprise morphed into a glare looking around the corner.
The one who entered in the room was a much older warlock smoking from a wooden pipe. His clothing consisted of dark grey robes with gold rings hanging around his arms. His eyes were solid dark red giving him a very intimidating appearance with long pure white hair with multiple long strands hanging down from his forehead area reaching down to his neck. Despite his seemingly old age, this warlock clearly wasn't someone you'd want to mess with at all. As for his staff, it was dark grey decorated in blue and red beads, and the palisman on the top was a small gargoyle perched onto of it.
Upon seeing her, the older warlock scowled at her while exhaling some smoke. " Hello Edalyn. "
Seeing this person, the owl lady returned the same scowl. " Alastair. "
Right now we see the group hanging underneath the umbrella waiting for lunch to served, the one who did the cooking was Evan, manning a grill.
" Evan we need more ice. " Gus called out.
Hearing this Evan paused at what he was doing and made another large ice chunk appear. " Here you go.
" Thank you. " Gus started chipping at the ice while nearby Luz and Willow nearby building a sandcastle.
" Hey Evan you almost done over there? I'm getting kind of hungry.
" Oh yeah? How's this for an answer? "
Upon lifting up the cover
" Whoa! " Instantly the group gathered around to gaze at the food before them keep their hungry gazes focused on them. As for what was on the grill three large stacks of ribs drizzled in sauce." Evan you brought ribs? "
" Hmhm, yes I did. " Taking a knife he and a pair of tongs he cuts one off. " Now Luz, I'm gonna need your human taste buds to let know I did good. "
" Mmm~ Evan this good. "
" Really? Let me try. " Evan cut off three more pieces
" Give me that! " Willow snatched it out of Evan's hands and started devouring the meat off the bone within seconds moaning from the delicious taste. When she was done she noticed that the others had a look of surprise on their faces. She instantly blushed in embarrassment. " Sorry, my dads are sort of strict on me eating healthy at home and we rarely every have anything that's not... "
" Good for you? " Evan guessed trying to finish her sentence.
" Yeah. "
" Well, at least I'm pleased to know somebody's enjoying them. "
" I'll say, I might have another.
" Uh, Gus hold on you might not wanna do that... " Evan advised but it was to late and Gus already took a bite and was chewing it.
" What? " Gus's eyes suddenly went wide before screaming in agony as a column of fire erupted from his mouth. He started running around like crazy screaming. " Water! Water! Water! Oh Titan please help! "
Evan sighed at this as he grabbed Gus as he was running by made a spell circle making a spout of water shoot out right into his mouth which lasted roughly for about five seconds. For extra measure's Evan even shoved a big piece of ice into thier which melted upon contact.
But on the plus side, Gus sighed in relief. " Thank you... "
" Don't mention it. "
" What'd you put on those ribs? " Willow questioned.
" That's because I made three, two are normal while one is spicy hot. I made the seasoning myself. " Evan said in a very proud tone while Gus glanced over to him as if we were crazy and had a screw loose.
" Are you're tastebuds even still alive? " He asked while Evan smirked cutting off a piece of the said rib and bit down on it. When he did, Evan didn't get any sort of reaction that Gus got at all much to Gus and Willow's shock.
" Yeah, and I say mmhmhm~ " Evan said happily chowing down. " Ok, now that you guys know which ribs to avoid, you hungry? " He instantly got replies and neither of them were aware that some sort of strange creature popped its glowing orange eyes fixated on the said group before it sunk back into the water all while Evan rushed off due to nature calling his name.
Moments later after rinsing off his hands in the water Evan returned back to the camp and found that the vacant spot was empty. Seeing this confused Evan as he looked around calling out to those that came with him.
" Willow? Gus? Luz? Where are you guys? "
As Evan said this something was seen slithering through the sand. Nothing really distinct but it was making it's way towards him
" Ok, very funny, you all want to prank me. ". " What you gonna do spook me? Come on, you gotta better then that. " Then it all happened so quickly, before Evan could react, he got hit right behind the head knocking him unconscious.
" What the hell is he doing here Saul? Did you tell him? " Eda asked demanding an answer the tensions was very thick. Every word Eda used was coated in venom showing her displeasure of talking to the older warlock before her.
" No. I found out on my own. " The older warlock said in an amused tone putting out his pipe.
" Ok, I'm gonna go work in the other room now. " Saul said before he left to do just that.
" Oh yeah, how'd you find out where I'd be at? You send one of your little spies on me? "
" Is that anyway you talk to your in law? " Alastair questioned with a raised eyebrow before shrugging his shoulders. " Then again, I'm not surprised since your relationship with your mother is strained especially your father after that incident. "
" Piss off Alastair. I don't need to listen to your crap. Why do you think I live so far out to get away from your toxic personality. "
" Very original. " The older warlock said in a bland tone. " And evidently it hasn't done you much good either. "
" I'm very serious Eda, we need to talk. Right now.
" Well what do you want? "
" Tell me something, you've noticed the majority of us Wild Witch and Warlocks is diminishing? "
" Hard not too... "
" More wild witch's such as us are either getting captured forced into Coven's against there wills, and those that don't cooperate die.
" I know. You know, I remember Phil going to you before he disappeared. Is that right? "
" That he did. "
" What did you say to him? "
" I urged him to focus on the matter at hand, but instead he was more focused on finding a way to rid your curse. "
" Did he say where was going? "
" No. " Alastair answered much to Eda's annoyance because she was hoping he would. " But Edalyn, I must confess. Things are becoming very unsettling lately. Belos is more adamant then ever to track all who reject the Coven system in a long time. He's had that throne long enough. "
Eda scoffed. " There's at least one thing we can agree on. "
" When I was younger, magic was very potent on the Isle's itself. There was always witch's and warlocks trying to make a name for themselves. Then when he appeared, things changed. Our way of life was taken, our ancestral roots & heritage was desecrated. Our magic potential is fading out, and becoming limited, merely a shadow in what it once was. " Alastair scowl intensified more showing his anger. " He even had the nerve to clean out the Palistrom forest that the Soulbane bloodline has safe guarded for generations. " Reaching into his pocket with sad look Alastair holds out a small glass canister with many seeds inside of it.
" Now all we have left are many seeds waiting to be planted, and whatever is left Belos keeps to himself. If the isle's continue on this path, the very essence of our world would no more. A change on the Isle's must come soon.
" That's for sure. So where you are getting at with this? "
" Edalyn, in order for change to come, we must act and soon. For the sake of the next generation of Witch and Warlocks to come. " Alastair collects himself for a moment before he continued.
" Which is why, I believe it's best if Evan comes living with me and Mervilion. "
A set of eyes was seen opening up slowly and gradually opened. Showing that person was regaining consciousness. That person was none other then Evan who suddenly gasped shooting up awake but groan in pain feeling the throbbing sensation from the back of his head where the unknown assailant got him.
" Dammit... " Slowly Evan got back up onto his feet glancing around to see that he was in a cage surrounded by a bright green energy which were most likely barriers.
" The hell? " As he was glancing around him, he noticed two other cages were right next to him and inside was Willow and Gus! But to make matters worse he couldn't see nor find Luz. So, whatever was happening, Evan had to act fast because he didn't know what was going on.
" Quickly he ran up to the front making sure he didn't touch the barrier. " Guys! Guys get up! Come on wake up! Willow! Gus! Wake up already! "
He heard multiple groans and much to his relief he saw the witch and his fellow warlock waking up.
" Evan? " Willow was slowly staring to regain her senses around her. " Is that you? "
" Ok, guys listen. " Evan said continuing to talk to them. " Don't panic but were kind of in a sticky situation right now. "
" Evan what's going on!? " Gus was the one to panic making Evan facepalm. " Where are we!? "
" Gus, what did I just say!? Calm down man! "
Taking his advice Gus started to slowly take deep breaths trying to calm himself down while Willow was looking around frantically.
" Evan, where's Luz!? "
" I don't know. What happened to you guys? I got knocked out. "
" We don't know, something just came out of nowhere and did the same to us. "
" Why is this happening!? " Despite his best attempt Gus still wasn't calming down.
" I don't know. "
"What did we do wrong? "
" I don't know Gus. "
" Are we gonna die!? "
" No, no. No. Freaking titan calm down already! "
" Are you kidding me!? we're trapped! What the hell are we supposed to do!? "
After all that ranting and raving all of Evan's patience was gone as he snapped at Gus. " Ok you know what yes Gus! We're trapped! Trapped like freakin rats there you happy!? Now shut the fuck up! "
" Hey don't be like that! " Willow said defending her friend. " He's just scarred that's all! "
" And I think nobody asked for your input Willow, because if you are right now ain't a good time for it! "
" Well can't you just break down these barriers!? "
" I can't, this is high level barrier magic. Getting out of these things isn't gonna be easy you know! "
" So what are we supposed to do then!? Just wait!? " Gus asked frantically while Evan gave him a flat look.
" Yeah. That's all we can do. " He said before sitting down and crossed his legs.
" Are you serious!? We're supposed to just wait!? "
" Yes, unless you guys got any other better ideas. " Evan replied bitterly before rolling his eyes sighing a bit. " Not real much choice like today... " He muttered, and it was apparently heard by Willow who frowned at this.
" What's that supposed to mean? "
" Hmm? Oh I'm sorry did I speak that too loud for you to hear? "
" You didn't want to come with us? Why? "
" No you got that all wrong, this was just supposed to be just me and Luz. Not you too, who used a few words to get what they wanted. "
" What!? " Gus was shocked to hear this.
" Evan what are you talking about!? "
" This is just like before! The Moonlight conjuring! You guys kept saying words like, 'oh this only happens only once a year'. " Evan said mimicking what they said before. " And don't you think it's some weird coincidence that it happened again?
" Evan I can understand where you're going with that, but Luz is our friend too. " Willow said trying to point it out.
" I know that. "
" So what's so different about us?...Do you... hate us or something? "
Hearing this took Evan by surprise. " Hate you? No, I don't. "
" Well how come at school you barely hang out with us? "
" Are you kidding? You guys never talk to me, so I figured why bother?
" You, know the reason I planned this out was to make more good memories...You guys know that Luz won't be here on the isle's forever, right? "
Willow's expression softened up a bit hearing that question as did Gus. " Well, yeah, of course we know that. Evan, I know it'll be hard to accept that, but you'll have us. " Evan only shook his head confusing them even more.
" What? Evan why? "
" The only reason I enrolled into Hexside was because Luz was there. When she's gone, then I'm out of there. "
Hearing this made Gus and Willow exchange sad and worried looks.
" But...what about us? " Gus asked.
" I guess... honestly deep down...I really don't trust you guys enough. "
" Even after everything we've been through together? Why? " Willow asked feeling hurt to hear this.
" Guy's you gotta understand something...Even though I've said it many times. I grew up in a much more different life then two have. I was taught to be careful who to trust, and who you could rely on. It might've saved me a few times, but those lessons took away my chances of making friends too. "
" How come you trust Luz more than us? " Gus asked as he looked a bit hesitant to answer.
" It's...kind of hard to say. "
" Well, we'll listen anyways. " Willow said urging him to try and explain. " We won't judge either. "
Evan remained quiet for a bit thinking on what she just said. " Honestly...Ever I met Luz, things have changed so much. You guys ever had moments where you feel like I don't know like crap? And have doubts? "
" I have. " Willow answered
" Me too. " Gus admitted taking a glance over at his friend exchanging a smile with each other remembering something from their past.
" Well, to be honest in only a small course of nearly three months, it's like my world got a lot brighter, I feel more better than I usually do. "
Hearing this Willow's eyes widen in realization now understanding what was going on. " So wait...you like her? "
" Huh? " Gus was confused. " What? "
She gave him a dull expression. " You know, like-like? "
He caught on. " Oooooh, that like. Ok, that makes sense now. "
" When did this happen? " Willow asked out of curiosity.
He glanced up the ceiling nervously. " The moment she swung moms staff launching fireworks into the mouth of Warden Wrath. At first I thought it was nothing, but little by little... that damn human girl made me fall for her. " He then glared directly at them. " If you tell her this, I'll skin you both alive. "
" We promise. " Willow replied raising up a hand and crossed her heart while Gus was more scarred while he did it. " Also, Evan, I just want to let you know that, no matter what happens, when she goes, we'll be there for you. I promise. "
Evan couldn't help but smile upon hearing this. " You mean that? "
" Of course. " Willow smiled back while Gus gave him a double thumbs up. But suddenly the moment was broken after hearing a small round of applause which caught there attention.
Standing at the mouth of a cave we see another odd-looking creature. That one appeared to look reptilian with pale whitish scales, and yellow slit eyes, the upper part of his body was human like while the bottom there were no legs just a very long tail. He wears purple and gold garments with a plumed cowl and wears a Scarab shaped pendant.
" That was very touching. " The creature said in an amused tone crossing out his arms.
" You're out of your fucking mind, if you think I'm gonna do that. " Eda said in a very aggravated tone.
" You may not like it Edalyn, but it is for the best. " Alastair said keeping his tone the same.
" You're not taking my son. "
" I'm not trying too, but I'm well aware that Bellos is hunting him down the same as you. " He said in matter-of-fact tone. " Both of you would be much safer if you went to live with us.
" I don't need too. " The owl lady spat back. " I appreciate what you and your wife have done for me and Phil in the past, but that, was the only help I needed. "
Seeing that this was going nowhere Alastair shook his head. " I've known you for a long time Edalyn Clawthorne. One thing I can never figure, is why my foolish boy decided saw in you. "
" You never bothered to ask him that yourself. So why should I tell you? "
Alastair scoffed at that remark. " Even after all these years you haven't changed at all. Still the same snobby little girl I saw when Phil brought you home.
" At least, I'm honest with who I am and I'm not afraid either.
" Really? You're not afraid of yourself after what happened to your father? "
" Don't toy with me Alastair. I'm not a little girl anymore, and you're just an old man.
" You know, I can very well, kill you without even trying if I wanted to. "
Eda scoffed shaking her head. " And you wondered why your kids hate your guts. They deserved better than you. "
" I did what I had too and I don't regret my choices. " Alastair said in a firm tone. " This world is unforgiving; you push on to survive our you die. That's the way it works. Plus, from what I hear my grandson has a made a name for himself., even after my son decided to take your family's last name, he's a fine example of the Soulbane bloodline. "
" Uh-huh, and where was that so called family bond when they needed it the most? Like forcing your ideals on Phil and not giving an ounce of shit about Hilda. "
Alastair slammed his fist against the wall glaring daggers at the owl lady who returned the look back. " Don't you mention my daughter again. I fucking loved Hilda, but just like you and your damn sister I lost both of my children. I might've been a bastard, but There's one distinct difference between me and you Eda and you wanna know what that is? "
" Oh yeah what? "
Alastair smirked. " I'm not a liar. I never lied in my life, never had too either. I say as it is. I may have been a hard ass on my children, but I never lied to them. Not like you. By the time, he finds out the truth, he'll hate your damn guts. " With that said Alastair walked out chuckling a bit and he went out Eda gave him the middle finger.
At the same time Saul came out holding a small paper bag. " Here Eda. "
" Thanks... " She yanked it out of his hands making the orc flinch.
" Eda, I'm s- "
" It's not your fault Saul... " Eda said in a bitter tone before she got onto her staff and flew off with a lot on her mind while Saul felt bad on what happened.
Upon seeing this creature, the group all stood up on their feet. " Who are you? "
" Just a humble merchant. " The entity answered. " Nothing special aside from traveling all around gathering all sorts of trinkets. "
" What do you want with us? And where's Luz!? "
The merchant smirked at that answer. " Right here. " He said moving his tail to reveal the human girl who was unconscious.
" You bastard let her go! "
Seeing the hostility, the merchant waved out his hands in defense. " Now, now. I don't mean any harm. I'd just like to play a game. "
" A game? " Evan repeated making sure he heard that right.
" What would that be?
" Simple you must beat me in... " The strange being got dramatic. " A staring Contest! "
Upon seeing this Evan gave out a blank look along with Willow and Gus who couldn't believe what they were seeing. " Are you...serious right now? "
" Dead serious. " The merchant said with a smile snapping his fingers making the barriers disappear allowing the three to exit out of their cages.
" What's the catch? "
" Easy, if you win, I let your friend go. But if I win, you'll stay here until you've beaten me. Sound fair? "
Evan wasn't so sure about this and so he motioned Willow and Gus over to him. " One moment please? "
The merchant merely slithered a few a feet away from them to give them some space as they all put their arms together huddling up.
" Evan, why can't you just beat this guy up? " Gus asked.
" Are you kidding? I might put a fight, but he's got the home field advantage. Plus we can't have the possibility of him doing anything to Luz. "
" He's right. " Willow said backing him up. " We can't risk that. "
" Fair point. But, you really think you could do this? "
Evan hummed for a bit. " Well, I've beaten just everyone in my household including Luz herself. So I think I can. "
" Have you reached a decision yet? " The merchant inquired, Evan glanced at his friends and they all nodded their heads in agreement.
" Ok... "
After getting into place, Evan stood on the right side while the merchant was on the left side. From the sidelines Gus and Willow were the audience to make sure who won along with the plant witch acting as referee.
" Ready! Set! Stare! "
And so the competition began, both competitors opened their eyes as wide as they could.
Time then flew on by as the staring contest continued on. Now things were getting to the breaking point, they were both shaking intensely trying not to blink. Evan grunted barring his teeth doing his best trying not to blink.
Meanwhile the merchant wasn't doing too good himself as he was on the urge of blinking himself.
" I...must...say...you're doing well... "
" Yeah... " Evan grunted keeping on the pressure. " You...too..."
" Sheesh, this is intense. I never knew staring contests got like this. " Willow commented as she watched the 'battle' go on.
" I know, I'm actually surprised Evan's still going. " Gus said which was apparently jinxing it as Evan was on the verge of blinking.
" Thanks a lot Gus! " The one eyed warlock cried out continuing to fight the urge despite running on fumes.
" My bad... " Gus said nervously giving a smile to Willow who gave him a look of disapproval.
" Hahaha! I win sucker! " The merchant cried out slowly beginning to blink.
Seeing this despite being on the edge Evan used his last weapon of resort.
" Hey...do...you...know...what...the...fish...s-said...when...he...swam...into...a...wall? "
" N-No...what? " The merchant asked in confusion before Evan smirked just as he feeling the urge.
" Damn! " Evan cried out just as he about too and just like that a miracle happened. The merchant broke down in laughter which resulted in him blinking making Willow and Gus cheer as they ran over to Evan who had his arms up in victory.
" Alright, Evan! Way to go! "
" Yeah, nice one! Also, is he ok? " Gus asked in confusion as they watched the merchant flail and roll around like crazy still laughing away. " Wow, he really got a kick out of that. Heh? How was that? "
Evan in response flicked his nose. " No, bad one liner. " The devil eye said in disproval while the merchant eventually calmed down.
" That was actually a good match. I must say, I'm impressed, all though that was a dirty trick, I approve because that was hillarous. "
" Well, glad that you liked it? So can we have her back? "
" Oh sure, sure. By all means. " The merchants tail unwrapped Luz and tossed her over to them. Instantly her two friends caught her.
" Now, I'm
" Also, one more thing. " Using his long tail the merchant snagged something
Evan immediately stopped in his tracks and rushed up to the item that was presented to him. It was a staff, colored pitch black made out of smooth wood, and on top of it was a winged wolf made out of some kind of stone.
Evan's whole world seemed to slow down as he gently rubbed his thumb on top of the wolfs head. Upon doing so the palisman's eyes opened showing it came to life. When it did, the canine spreader out it's wings giving off a yawn. Upon seeing Evan the wolf got excited wagging it's tail flying around Evan before rubbing up against his cheek. In turn Evan continued rubbing his thumb on the palisman.
" Hey Lobo...I missed you too boy... " He then returned his attention to the merchant. " Where'd...Why do you have this? "
" A few years ago a stranger approached me, and beated me in another game. Instead of taking gold he left me instructions. The one who finds the warp key to Aqua Lagoona and arrives here is the one I'm meant to give this too, should that individual beat me in any game. " The strange creature reached into his robes pulling out a small ugly book with a dark blue cover on it.
" He also gave me this. "
Evan took a bit confused" A journal? Did that person give this to you as well? " The merchant nodded his head. " Could you possibly remember anything else? Like did he say where he was going? Anything at all? "
" No, I'm sorry, he wouldn't say. Did you know this person? "
Evan smiled as he hugged the palisman to his chest feeling tears threatening to escape. " Of course, he's my dad. "
" Ah, I see now. " The merchant said nodding his head now understanding why. " Well, I believe you four should return home. "
" You know what, I'm with him on this one. How about you guys? "
They all nodded in agreement and walked to the portal right before they left Evan stopped and turned to the merchant. " Thank you. " The being only nodded his head as he walked through the portal closing right behind him.
" Well, that was fun...now who to play with next? "
Back at the Boiling Isle's we see Eda who had just arrived back home. She only wanted to grab what she needed, not make it a big deal. But in the end, it did and to make matters worse she had to listen to her father-in-law. He was a lot of things, a not so happy individual, grumpy and an asshole. However, it was the last few words that stung her the most. Eda had to do a lot of things in the many years. Leaving school, moving out of her parents' home, the only ones that supported her was Owlbert and of course Phil. Even after her first transformation, Phil still loved her. He was with her every step of the way, they even managed to have a child together even when they were told those were cursed couldn't have kids. But yet they did, and Evan has brought so much joy into her life, but then when Phil disappeared it felt like her whole world was crumbling. Yet despite that Eda knew she had to continue on, plus she still had to take care of Evan.
Deep down, Eda knew she's made a lot of mistakes, but having her son, wasn't one of them. But keeping so many secrets from him, it wasn't right. She knew that, yet she didn't want him to worry so much, because it was parents' duty to put their children at ease. And sometimes, even they did stupid things, as a way to protect them.
" Hoot-hoot. You ok? " Hooty asked Eda.
" Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for asking Hooty. "
" By the way, Evan and Luz came back home a little while ago, and Evan is a bit excited about something. "
" About what? "
" He didn't want me to say anything. " The house guardian said before opening the door letting Eda enter her home and closing it behind her.
Once inside she stuffed the bag into her hair and called out to her son. " Evan? "
" Mom, that you? "
" Yeah, you wanted to show me something? "
" Uh, yeah, yeah. I'm in the kitchen right now. " Evan replied as Eda walked into the kitchen and saw something in her sons hands. Immediately, Eda gasped in shock running over to her son and kneeling down to the palisman before her. " Lobo? Is that you? " The wolf merely barked confirming Eda's answer.
" Evan...how? Where did you? "
" I'll tell you the details later. " Evan said before placing the staff onto the counter including the journal. A big smile plastered onto Evan's face grasping his mothers hands.
" Mom you know what this means? Dad is out there, somewhere I just know it. Because he would never leave his staff or Lobo. Would he? "
" Not unless had a good reason. " Eda said as Owlbert flew up over to his fellow palisman hooting happily flying around the wolf who was barking seemingly very happy as well to see it's old friend once again. Not wasting much time, they both began to fly around playing a game of tag. Seeing this made the owl lady smile for a minute before returning her focus over to her son again glancing over at the journal.
" What is that? "
" The same one who had Lobo also gave this too me. Do you recognize it? "
Eda started to examine it and proceeded to open it flipping through some pages. " Oh yeah, this is your dads journal alright. Been a long time since I seen it to. When he vanished, I tried looking for it. But wasn't so successful either. "
" Do you think it could give us any clues? "
" Maybe...I don't for certain. "
" Evan? " They both heard Luz's voice coming from upstairs. " What happened!? Why are am I back here at the Owl House!? Where's Willow and Gus!? "
" I better go check up on her. " Evan said rubbing the back of his head as he left the kitchen leaving Eda in her thoughts. Seeing Lobo and her husbands journal made a tear escape.
" Is it possible? " She asked in a hopefull tone glancing over to a photo hanging in the kitchen showing her and Phil with Evan as a baby sitting in a clearing enjoying a picnic. Now knowing he wasn't around Eda took the bag out of her hair and sighed sadly staring down at it.
" Phil? If you were here right now? Would you say I was doing the right thing for our son? "

Ok, so I admit, not exactly the best chapter, I've made and even I can admit that much, but it was how I planned out. In every chapter and episode there's always one we don't like, and that's ok. We out our opinions.
And now, for those that have been reading this thing from the start, thank you all so much for loving this story for the past two years. It means a lot to me and I'm glad to know that you all enjoy reading as much as I enjoy working on it.
I already have the next chapter planned out as well.
By the way the voice actor for Alastair Soulbane is none other then Corey Burton the same guy who does the voice of Cad Bane, yep same from the Star Wars franchise. Don't know why but that voice was the one I was looking for that fitted the profile and personality.
But, for the moment I'll try and update my Kipo story. I haven't started it yet, however I got a pretty solid idea of what I'm gonna be doing with it.
