They got back to Batman's lab at his penthouse in the city. Justice was left in the same room where she used to have trining when she got her White Shadow suit for the first time. Batman left fast and didn't say a word so Justice had some time to sleep and rest. All her mussels hurt but gladly she wasn't bleeding from her scars and was able to take a shower. She still didn't know who was Batman but she knew that he had people who helped him. She saw them in the surgery room but not clear and also she didn't know any names. When she got better in the surgery room she run away when there was a chance. Justice remembered herself walking through a big house and stumbled on her White Shadow suit in one of the rooms. When she thought about it now that room seemed to be a lab as this one but bigger and the ceiling was so high and beautiful like in a museum. After she put her suit on Justice knew she was unstoppable and went to find Batman. She escaped through the underground tunnel by foot but it took her long time to reach the end of it. When she was finally free from the tunnel and smelled familiar toxin fog Justice knew she was close to Gotham. She felt very tired but happy because she could be helpful instead of being in a surgery room.
After the shower she tried to put herself to sleep but she couldn't so she decided to think about Evan. Whatever it was he was dying from, it had something to do with chemicals but does it mean people of all Gotham sooner or later would have this unknown disease. Also how about people who are immune to it like her herself and Batman and some other people. Of course when they were very close to the source of chemicals they had cough and headache but being on the streets and inhaling this stuff didn't make them as sick as others.
-Does it have to do anything with strawberries? Because it smells everywhere like those berries maybe the chemicals consist something of that sort and those who have allergies on fruits or some certain component can get ill. - she was talking to herself sitting in a chair.
She had so many questions for Batman because she skipped many days while being in recovery but he wasn't here. He disappeared as usual unseen and invisible. Justice finally managed to fell asleep and her rest was dreamless.
She woke up from the sound of a turned on TV but the room was empty. She found a note on a desk "be ready in one hour". No need to repeat twice Justice got ready faster then one hour. She stretched her muscles and did some exercises then washed her face and put on suit but nobody came for her. She tried to open the door it was locked. She was waiting and thinking what could go wrong. TV channels were off and it seemed like Evan stoped broadcasting anything at all. Justice remembered that only yesterday there were some news about the city and he even broadcasted a weather report which wasn't very promising at all. The temperature was about to drop very low and literally zero wind moves. The rivers got almost frozen and only stayed open in the middle and still the water wasn't very safe to cross by ice. "If the river on the East freezes we could evacuate people on the main land on the ice but it's still very dangerous to do now. River on the West to the Zones is smaller and I believe it almost frozen by now. Anyway waters need couple more days of freezing temperatures" - thought Justice looking out of the window to the green thick fog.
He opened the door fast as wind.
-It is a disaster. - roared Batman.
-What happened! - White Shadow turned from the window to look at the visitor to find out the furious expression on Batman's face even a mask couldn't hide it.
-It didn't work! Everything we did yesterday was for nothing the meter of fact I made it worse.
-What are you talking about?
-I turned of pipes yesterday to stop the spread of the fog in two leaks and two were remain opened. I was planning to shut them down today but overnight the tension in pipes rose and it caused four explosions one by one. I made it worse!
White Shadow waited not knowing what to say. It was time to think fast but nothing came up. They were lost in evil plan of Evan.
-It was all part of his plan Batman! - she said carefully. - I knew it he wanted you to save Gotham and he knew you would try to stop those leaks from spreading the fog… He… planned it perfectly for the cold and calm weather. There is no TV broadcasting all morning almost like he gave up on people of Gotham.
-He did one broadcast in the morning and he put all weight of the responsibility on me. And the thing is he is right. - Batman was walking back and forth. - It's all my fault. It's impossible to go outside without a mask even for those who is immune. Fog is so thick in the street that you can actually grab it with your hand and I don't see any people outside at all. Last night he played that sleeping sound and it was longer than usual.
-What the police is doing? - asked White Shadow.
-After the explosion they got back to the headquarters. Gordon gave masks to everyone but they have no idea what come next.
-Batman. I think we have to wake the people up. People of Gotham have to be awake they can't stay sleeping and inhaling that chemicals.
-The weather is going to be calm next three days but cold. Do you think he wants people to die inside their homes?
-No but… I think if we won't wake them up now it's going to be late.
-What do you mean? What do you know! Answer! - Batman walked up to White Shadow squeeze her arms and held agains the wall. - People lives are in danger, there are over ten million people in Gotham and you want to play this hide and seek game!
-No! I just thought of it yesterday. There are only seven million people on the main land and the rest of them are in the Zones but it's not the point. I keep thinking about his sickness and that first note we put together remember?
-About animals, I remember, police was thinking about the zoo attack but it turned out even worse.
-Right! Evan doesn't do things just because there is an idea behind it. Also the last time you saw him did you notice anything?
-The last time I saw Evan was my first time seeing him. But he was looking different then his pictures I found from the orphanage.
-Yes. He is sick. He is dying but maybe he is not.
-What do you mean? - Batman let her go but was watching her closely.
-I think it's biological he is changing himself. I'm afraid it's sort of hibernation right now. He was waiting for it because he wants the blame falls on somebody else not him. Now he tells it was Batman's fault because before people were pretty much healthy and city looked more alive. Federal government will charge you of course they will charge him as well but he has a point now. He didn't do the explosions you did. But before all these charges I think it will lead to something horrible. He will make people animals before they will be relieved out of their misery.
-Chemicals? I was running tests in the lab but I didn't see any side effects for biomaterial.
-Depends on the dose and I guess also I am sure you never run tests on real human body. We don't know how they react on a severe dose of this chemicals especially now when almost all of them asleep in their homes.
-Even if we wake them all up… where they going to go. State land is closed because there are no bridges anymore.
-We will lead them to the zones. The fog there not so strong I would say there is none because that part has some winds and it runs deep into the island.
-All of them is a lot! They won't cross over one bridge even if I make sure Evan won't attack it.
-They will go on ice. One or two days and water freezes completely by that time we can wake them up and hope it won't be late. Does police force has enough masks and more important people to secure the bridge?
-Gordon will help. He has some good people with him.
Batman received a call from Alfred and he had to step away from White Shadow to talk to him.
-What is it Alfred?
-You have to see it, sir. There is a broadcast live but Evan doesn't do it in the city. The signal goes outside to the state and federal channels. I will send you an access to it! Watch it now!
