Chapter 13: First Mission

Month 6

It has been 6 months since the war to take back the planet started. The Resistance and G.U.N have done as much as they could to put up a fight against the Eggman Empire. But Eggman has achieved his dream at long last. He has successfully conquered 99% of the world. With his new invention and his most powerful ally Infinite on his side, the doctor was just about unstoppable.

The civilians struggle to survive and begin to lose hope since Sonic has vanished, with everyone assuming him to be dead since Eggman showed footage of him being launched into space. But Knuckles and Towers were not going to back down. They both know well that they'll never give up. The two begin making plans on how they could turn the tides.

"Things are really getting out of hand, Commander Knuckles. This is everyone's nightmare come true." Towers spoke to Knuckles.

"You don't need to tell me twice. If Sonic was alive, he definitely would have agreed. What about outer space?" Knuckles asked.

"Rouge is on it already. Good thing the Chaotix found blueprints of Eggman's Base a few months ago."

The Death Egg. Eggman can't be any more unoriginal than that. Whatever he has planned aboard the Death Egg, it can't be good. He has two bases, in space and on earth."

"She'll report back soon. Whatever she tells me, I'll tell you. We'll get to the bottom of this. The bad news is he also has control over the Space Colony Ark and reprogrammed its defenses."

"But the good news is they only scan for ships. Not life forms."

"That is a big mistake. We just got word that a group of soldiers are being pinned down in Westopolis. Sorry to cut the call short. But we all have our duty."

Towers signs off while Knuckles sighs. He wishes they were winning right now. But Knuckles is still willing to bring people hope by any means.

In outer space, Eggman also has a fleet above, but not a whole lot. He has rebuilt the Death Egg behind everyone's backs and made it several times and all of those times it was destroyed by Sonic. And just what Towers said earlier, he also has control over the Space Colony Ark. The place where Shadow was created. Rouge is on the Death Egg spying.

Rouge sneaks past guards by climbing the ceilings in her stealth suit. She has brought plenty of equipment with her, including flash drives to steal data from Eggman. But destroying the Death Egg is nearly impossible, due to its high defenses. As soon as Rouge sees guards leave, she jumps down from the vent shafts and runs and inserts the drive.

"Jackpot. The bosses will be pleased about this. But I wish there were treasure chests full of jewels, though." Rouge whispered.

Rouge sighs as she unplugs the drive and starts hiding and making her way to the shuttle bay. As she is slowly making her way, she hears grunting and talking.

"Wait. What was that?"

Rouge turns to the other direction. She hides around every corner, and she sees a human being pulled away by some robots and tries to resist, but they continue to drag him away. Rouge rushes in and finds herself in a giant camera room. She looks and sees many prisoners on the Death Egg. Many mobians and humans alike who helped fight in the war thus far.

"Prisoners. Now that would be a bad life for them. But that voice. It's too familiar but who is it?" Rouge pushes a button and the screen changes to one singular room. Her eyes widened as she took a few steps back. "N-no! It… it can't be!"

Back on earth, the Resistance and G.U.N continue to fight against the Eggman Empire, but have lost most of their territories. Their hidden HQ in the city and parts of South Island are what is left. But soon, a new face will join the Resistance.

Vector comes in, tired and frustrated.

"Eggman's army is unstoppable. Without Sonic, people are losing hope and giving into despair." Vector groaned.

"Despair is the luxury we don't have." Silver said.

"I still dream that Sonic is with us. Every single day. I wish we could've done something to help him that day." Amy sighed with regret.

"I'm an optimist. But I'm also full of honesty. But today I hate to be honest with you, Amy. But Sonic is gone. And Tails…. he's barely talked to us for these past six months. He still blames himself for what happened to Sonic. If we're gonna win this war, we have to do this without them."

"I'm afraid Silver is right." Espio agreed. "We hoped for miracles for half a year now. Now we have to make our own miracles."

"Eggman has everyone terrified. We have to show these people that strength doesn't just come from numbers."

"Isn't a new recruit joining us today?" Charmy asked.

"Correct. You have met him before just as most of us have. Knuckles will come in and announce him any time now." Silver said.

Speaking of Knuckles, he walks in on their conversation.

H"ey, guys. Glad to see you all in one piece. Eggman's forces have chewed through our defenses in Green Hill. And I got reports saying they had help from that masked man who… well… you know." Knuckles said. It's not easy trying to forget what happened that day. "Whoever it is has got them running in fear. But meet our newest recruit. C'mon on in, rookie!"

The door opens and it is revealed to be Sam the Dog. He looks up, very shy about joining the Resistance. He walks in and finds the strength to greet himself.

"H-hi. Umm, I-I'm Sam. Sam the Dog. I helped the Chaotix guys shoot down an Eggman fleet. It's happy to see some cool faces." Sam sighly introduced himself.

"Nice to meet you, Sam. I'm Amy. Pleased to meet you." Amy shakes Sam's hand he giggles.

"Thanks. I heard about your heroics and such. Thought you were cool along with Tails and Sonic."

"The pleasure is ours. Welcome, new recruit Sam." Gemerl welcomed him.

"Yes. You were amazing during your training, Mr. Sam." Cream happily shook his hand.

Charmy flies in to inspect Sam.

"Months of training and doesn't look like much." Charmy examined.

"Hey, neither do you, Charmy. But I can still find some good use for your pointy butt." Knuckled quipped.

Charmy chuckles, finding it to be a complement. Knuckles turns to Sam.

"Anyway, okay, guys. Let's do it. The world is not gonna save itself."

The Resistance cheers with a yes! But then, Rouge and Towers contact the Resistance.

"It's Rouge and Towers. What is it?" Amy asked.

"I have important news. Big important news for all of you. I found Sonic. And he's alive and breathing." Rouge told everyone.

"What?! He's alive?! Yes!" Knuckles raised his fist in the air.

"Well I'll be. Sonic has survived worse, but I'm glad he's still with us." Towers said.

"Oh thank goodness. I knew it. I KNEW IT!" Amy hopped in the air while clasping Cream's hands.

"He's been on board the Death Egg this entire time. Eggman did a good job keeping it hidden from us. He's been in his own private cell for months. Here." Rouge shows a picture of Sonic wide awake with his hands and feet trapped in energy binders as he was before. Amy covers her mouth.

"Oh my gosh. Is he okay? I hope they have been feeding him despite Eggman's bad cooking." Amy said.

"Eggman may be evil and loathes Sonic, but he's not that cruel. We've dealt with enemies worse than him." Knuckles reassured her.

"Shouldn't we rescue him? Who knows how much longer they're gonna keep him in there." Sam said.

"You're right, Sam. In fact, we're gonna launch a rescue mission immediately. I know just the place Eggman uses for his shuttle station. It's in the Launch Base zone."

"I will have my soldiers hold them off while you guys take a shuttle to get to Sonic." Towers stepped in to help.

"Time for an old-school jailbreak, guys. Let's do this. You're coming with us, Sam. Your first official mission." Knuckles said to the rookie.

"Yes. Hopefully I'll finally get to meet Sonic." Sam smiles as he charges out of their private HQ, very happy to hear that Sonic is alive all this time. He really hopes to meet his number one idol he has ever been hearing about.

The Launch Base. Where Eggman originally built to relaunch his Death Egg into space, which was thwarted by Sonic and Tails many years ago. Eggman has revived the place and it's covered in more snow.

Sam runs up and down some slopes without even slowing down and jumps over a huge ledge and uses his grapple wire to grab a target sphere to get to the other side.

"Commander Towers here. My robot soldiers are gonna hold them off for now….. Wait! Heads up! The masked one is here! The same one who took down Sonic!" Towers warned them.

"Stay focused, kid! We're off to find a shuttle. Meet us there!" Vector reminded the new guy.

"Yes, Vector sir!" Sam acknowledged.

Sam runs ahead, jumps over a smaller ledge and runs up a slope where an Orbitnaut robot with four small spike balls starts coming toward him as he uses his burst wispon to burn and destroy it. He runs up another slope and sees four Flybots that look like little falcons flying towards them. Sam uses his wire attack on all four of them like a homing attack to get to the other side and enters a capsule that spins into place for a few seconds and it goes down, right and up through a tube before it stops. Sam jumps out and sees more Orbitnauts coming toward him and he destroys them all with his burst wispon. He runs as fast as he possibly can and slides under a small gap with spikes in it and runs around a loop before going down a big slope and sees a big cup in the air, jumps in as it spins and goes up to higher ground. He jumps out, sees only one way up and wall jumps upward and sees many groups of shuttles ahead at a distance. But he reaches a dead end. A wall covered in spikes.

"Hey, don't forget to activate the special powers on your wispon, rookie." Knuckles said.

"Huh? Oh, right." Sam nodded.

Sam pushes a button on the side of it and he starts shooting the ground and begins boosting his way upwards, sending Sam flying. He manages to gain enough height to make it over the wall. But then he sees a train track and a cargo train with supplies. Sam aims his grapple wire on a target and zooms his way onto the train. He makes it, but nearly slides off and barely grabs on for dear life. As he crawls on, he sees a wall coming up and he had to escape. He looks up, wires an object and it pulls him up… only to see another train coming towards him.

"YIKES!"

Sam grapples more objects as he makes it to the other side. He continues running through egg pawns as he uses his flamethrower weapon to destroy three rows as he runs around another loop and wire attacks a pawn. Sam looks up and his eyes widen as he sees frog-like robots called Ribots with stretchy arms and hands that look like boxing gloves. They all start slamming their fists down on the rookie, who could only think of running away from them as fast as possible. Then he is being chased by more flybots who try to dive in on him to attack, but Sam sidesteps each of them as he sees another gap and slides under while avoid flamethrowers within the walls, causing the robots to crash. Sam jumps over more flamethrowers as he runs and grapples forward. Then he grinds on a rail and makes his way to the destination.

Everyone else has made it to the shuttle, but Knuckles is looking for Sam and contacts him.

"Hey, rookie. Where are you? Get out of there once we are aboard. Step on it." Knuckles said.

Sam nods and bounces off a spring and grapples around and forward, spins and lands close to Knuckles.

"Took you long enough, kid. That was good though."

"S-sorry, sir. I Had to deal with robots."

"There's a first time for everything. Let's go. Next stop: the Death Egg."

Sam nods as he and Knuckles run on board the shuttle. Espio and Vector are piloting the ship as it begins to fly off the ground. Towers looks on with a smile.

"All troops. Fall back. We've completed our objective. Let's wait and hope they'll do their job."

All robot soldiers fall back as instructed and Towers retreats as well. Infinite has been busy destroying more G.U.N robots that tried to approach him as he hears engine noises. He turns his head and sees a shuttle making it past the clouds.

"The doctor will not be pleased by this turn of events." Infinite siad.

Note: Finally continuing the story. Instead of going through Chemical Plant numerous times as well as other levels numerous times, I'm adding different levels to make the story more original and add more variety. For example, in this chapter, instead of going through Chemical Plant from Sonic 2 to get a space shuttle, they go to Launch Base from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles.
