Awhile later, the king returns to the castle by himself. Where could Link be? Princess Zelda is in her room clutching her wedding dress. She sighs and reaches for her diary as she always does.

Dear Diary,

Link has not returned. I am sitting here with my wedding dress and the hour for the ceremony to begin is quickly approaching. Surely my Link would tell my father that he needs to come home now so we can have our wedding? I can only hope that

Zelda's thoughts are interrupted as her bedroom door is thrown open. Her father stands there, his brow furrowed. Then, he notices the wedding dress. Zelda gasps and tries to hide the dress.

"Zelda," the king says, trying not to yell.

"Dad! I… Where's Link?!" Zelda asks.

"He's not coming back. He's gone for real this time," the king says.

"N-no! That's impossible! Link ALWAYS comes back!" Zelda says. "What did you do to my Link?!"

"I didn't do anything," the king lies. "He said he wanted to speak to me in private, so we left. Turns out, he didn't ACTUALLY want to marry you."

"No! Why?!" Zelda asks, her heart breaking.

"It never would have worked," the king says. "Why would a scrappy goatherd ever marry a princess? It makes no sense. I'm sorry that he lied to you."

"I can't believe this! He… I…" Zelda says, holding a hand to her heart. "I loved him… I… I'll never love anyone ever again!"

"No. I'm sure you will, one day. I've heard some of the neighboring princes have taken an interest in you," the king says, reaching to hug his daughter.

"Don't TOUCH me!" Zelda yells, spitting on her father.

"ZELDA! HOW DARE YOU SPIT ON YOUR FATHER THE KING?!" the king yells, enraged.

"I want to be alone! Go away!" Zelda yells. "You're always ruining EVERYTHING! I HATE YOU! I HATE EVERYONE!"

"Fine! Be like that!" the king yells and storms out of the room.

Zelda sobs heavily for a few minutes straight.

Dear diary,

This is the absolute worst day of my life. I'm not even being dramatic this time… Link hates me and is not coming back. My father hates me, as well. What even is left for me? Nothing. My heart is shattered into more pieces than a pot wrecked by Link. I will NEVER love again. I SWEAR! And you know what? You and I, my dearest diary, are going to run away. That'll teach my father not to mess with me ever again! Come on… Let's go.
