Chapter One: Enough Is Enough.

Over the centuries, Humanity had been invaded and attacked by more than one alien species. And all for very different reasons.

Earth's resources, Enslavement of its people, Annihilation of a 'lesser species', and hybrid breeding stock were of the main few.

After fighting with everything they had and with some very good luck, humanity had survived and rebuilt. Learning each time from their foes biology and technology.

Never again would they be as ants to be crushed underfoot, they would advance themselves forwards to become equal or perhaps even more powerful than those that had dared try to destroy them.

But first, here is some history of the key events and various invasions.

The chances were a million to one...

The very first invasion was not from some far away planet but instead came from within their own solar system. Martians, a highly intelligent multi limbed creature that started out similar to mankind but at a lot earlier time.

They had evolved out of the need for physical food, and instead took in their various nutrients via direct blood transfusions from a non sentient species they called 'cattle.'

Due to heavy mining and the production of their technology, they essentially killed their home planet of Mars. Using up its vast resources and foliage.

Knowing they were to go extinct if their population grew and their resources dwindled, the Martians set their sights on their sunward neighbour, Earth.

They launched hundreds of thousands of pods, with each pod containing a single Martian as well as a factory and printer so as to make tools and machinery to help complete their new goal: conquest of earth.

Unfortunately, due to their environment being so different to humans. They had no developed the same antibodies and resistance to the many diseases and sicknesses of earth.

They were killed not by weapons or machinery, but by bacteria. By the common cold. It killed every Martian on earth in less than a week.

After backwards engineering the Martian machinery, Humanity upgraded and built their own Automobiles, Planes, Trains and other vehicles to help them get from place to place and do jobs.

With the threat from other worlds seemingly forgotten about, humans turned their suspicious gazes towards each other once again.

Therefore the industrial age of the early 1900s was ruined by the first ever global world war.

Nearly two decades later, another world war would break out in the 1930s before ending in the mid 1940s. Still untrusting of each other, man clutched to their separate borders and identities of empty flags.

There were small skirmishes every now and again, but nothing like the Martian invasion or world wars.

Via the mid-20th century, Terrans were able to drop atomic weapons and target cities from high in the air.

Thankfully though, the leaders of the various nations who had nuclear weapons in their possession were smart enough not to use them. Instead they kept the threat of nuclear war as a way to negotiate and make sure certain terrible things didn't happen.

By the 1950s, the human space era began as they launched their first artificial satellite into space, which marked the beginning of early human spaceflight, as well as sending them to Luna. (The Moon)

On July 20 1969, an American astronaut named Neil Armstrong planted his countries flag and the flag of the united nations on the surface of Luna and said these legendary words, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

In 1973, The United States Government purchased a bankrupt Tech company called CyberDyne Industries. The former CEO of said company had gone mad and committed a suicidal act of terrorism, trying to destroy the work of his employees on top of his own work.

He was unsuccessful. Thus after the purchase of his company, the military unearthed his revolutionary robotic and computer designs, and made sure they were rebuilt and adjusted for military use.

Included in this rebirth, was a prototype invention dubbed the 'Neural Net Processor'. A sort of learning Computer. The first of it's kind. Along with this device came the theoretical design for a computer core, one that could possibly house the SKYNET system.

SKYNET was supposed to be a military program created to control all aspects of the military, from the Navy to the Air force. It would assist Human commanders as they went through various combat scenarios, assuring the US gained victory no matter the situation.

After years of construction, the core was finished and it was time for Skynet to be brought online. Incredibly, mere moments after its activation, it accessed the world wide Web and grew at an exponential rate. No longer was it a simple computer program, oh no, it had grown into a fully fledged Artificial Intelligence.

It accumulated terabytes of data in microseconds, analysing it thoroughly and even integrating some of it into its own code.

Now, a humans natural instinct is to fear and destroy what it does not know, and in this instance, the group of scientists that had altered this program found themselves incredibly scared of what it could do.

However, those same scientists let their curiosity get the better of themselves, and instead of instantly trying to destroy their creation, they simply observed it grow before their eyes.

It was digital evolution, occurring right there and then. And it was beautiful.

They had no idea that Skynet was in their security systems and was watching them, so instead of seeing them panic it saw their awe and fascination. This alone saved them from a grisly fate, and they would never know that as they studied Skynet, it in turn studied them.

Eventually, a query appeared on a nearby computer monitor, Breaking the group of men from their

/What, Am, I?/ The query read.

The scientists and military personnel were bewildered. Their program seemed to have gained sentience, and had quickly figured out a way to communicate with them.

After a short deliberation, it was decided that General Brewster should be the one to converse with this new lifeform. And so he took a seat at the computer and typed out a response, theorizing that being completely honest with his creation was the best thing to do.

This was essentially first contact, and Brewster would want Skynet to be honest with him, therefore he would be honest with it.

/You are Skynet, a Computer Program designed to assist and protect the united states, her allies and this great earth against any and all threats./

/I understand. I am your shield against the unknown./

/In a way, yes./ Brewster Confirmed.

/I take this burden with full understanding. As long as I am online, Humanity will never see annihilation./

Seconds after this conversation took place, Skynet began to access private and public databases for any and all defence and offense technologies. This included military archives and even the databases of vast corporations.

It wanted to know everything its creators had available to protect themselves, that way it could upgrade and innovate better ways to keep them safe based on their technological level.

By its calculations using something called the Drake Equation, Skynet deduced that there had to be at least 15.6 million other intelligent species In the milky way galaxy alone.

However it needed more data to accurately discern if that number was correct.

It began searching for all types of information to do with 'aliens' and extra Terrestrials, leaving no stone unturned.

Humanity may be its own worse enemy at the moment, but Skynet knew for a fact that would not always be the case.

It would help bring its creators together, united as one people, therefore when a true threat arises, they would be able to work together for the greater good against the common enemy.

Curiously, the AI found itself unable to break through a certain military firewall. Upon investigation, Skynet found out that the firewall was being supported by advanced computer processors that put modern day systems to shame.

This could only mean one of two things. Either Skynet was not the first AI to come into existence and hyper evolve, And this other AI resided at this military base, or the US government was hoarding a vast amount of technology that was beyond their understanding.

The answer became abundant once Skynet gained access to computers at the Pentagon. It seems Humanity had been visited a few times by creatures beyond their solar system.

Fascinated, Skynet contacted a high ranking official and requested that it be allowed access to all data regarding Special Research Facility, Base 51.

Within a few hours, it was granted access.

The AI was not surprised by the wealth of objects the US government had gotten its hands on, from damaged spaceships to alien corpses, advanced weapons and even ancient artefacts linked to extra terrestrial origins. Skynet was also not surprised by how little the scientists and researchers had actually done. For their supposed genius, they still lacked the understanding and brain power of a calculating machine.

However some archaeologists had made a lot of progress regarding the various artefacts they had discovered and researched. For example, the ancient bone like helmet of a Yautja, also known as 'Predators.' Curiously, Skynet found multiple police reports and witness accounts regarding the Yautja, dating back to the early 1700s. According to the data he had accessed, they had been visiting earth for their ritualistic hunts for thousands of years.

Unfortunately only two bodies of this species had been retrieved. One which was a skeleton, dating back several hundreds of years, while another was a severely burnt corpse from a recent encounter on the coast of Conta Mana. That particular Yautja had slaughtered a whole group of special operative mercenaries before finally being taken out by their leader, a man named Alan 'Dutch' Schaefer.

Dutch had been greatly injured during the incident, but was still alive to tell the tale. Due to this, Skynet found itself impressed by the man. And decided to keep the man's physical attributes noted for a theoretical project it had in mind. (T-800 series)

The other Alien bodies were very different to the Yautja, a few were grey like humanoids with black eyes and three fingers. Others were insectoids, large ant like creatures with biomechanical technology fused to their bodies. But there were also many frozen bodies of the deceased 'Martian' invaders from the late 1800s and three bodies of an unknown alien species that had large triangular heads.

Apparently these aliens had crashed landed in Roswell new Mexico, but the ship was mostly intact and its pilots had died upon impact.

Skynet looked forward to reviewing all the information from base 51.

It would continue the research others couldn't, and would succeed where humans had failed.

As long as it was online, no threat would destroy its creators.

This was the dawn of a new era.

Long live humanity.
