Hi, Lily here. I just wanted to say that I saw your comments and I'm willing to take any suggestions on how the story should go. I know the prank isn't really good, but it's the first thing I thought of, and I have no inspiration right now. The prank idea was from Dancer4813 in her Lily Luna Potter: Back to the Past fanfic, which is an AMAZING story, so you should definitely read it. If you have any ideas on how I could make my story better, please don't hesitate to criticize me. Also, I've decided to change what Amelia calls Remus Lupin. Instead of her calling him "Remus," she will call him "Uncle Moony." I just feel like that's what she would call him. Thank you for reading!
Finally, it was Saturday. A week had passed since my little chat with Professor Lupin. All my classes were fairly easy if I'm being completely honest; all of them except Potions, of course (thanks to Professor Snape!). It was extremely hot, today. Today would probably be the last hot day of the year, so everyone was outside enjoying their "last summer day." The Ravenclaw Quidditch team was practicing on the pitch, and quite a few students were swimming in the Black Lake. Leo, Harry, and Ron were sitting beneath the old beech tree on the water's edge.
Hermione and I decided to play a nice little prank on the boys. Well, just me, but I made Hermione join me. I asked Fred and George what prank I should pull on the boys, and they told me throwing snowballs at them would be a decent prank, easy and simple, yet damaging and hilarious. It was a brilliant idea. I'm not surprised though, as they have pulled countless pranks on their classmates throughout their four years at Hogwarts and will continue to do so for the next three years, I'm sure.
Fred and George had given me some magical snowballs. They were like regular snowballs, but they were enchanted to not melt in the summer heat. Each of us, Hermione and I, had two of the enchanted snowballs in our hands. We crept up behind the beech tree that Leo, Ron, and Harry were leaning against, making as little noise as possible.
On my signal, the two of us jumped out from behind the tree and launched our missiles. One of Hermione's hit Ron in the chest, while her other one hit Harry's chest, as well. Both of my snowballs hit Leo directly in the face. We stayed just long enough to see the looks of shock on their faces, and then we ran away.
We must have looked like complete idiots sprinting across the grounds in the hot weather, but I for one didn't care in the least. I felt the heat of a jinx fly past my shoulder and grinned like an idiot. Why I was so excited that they were giving chase, I'll never know.
Hermione and I started running down the hill leading to the Forbidden Forest. Hermione slowed down, eager to avoid face-planting into the sappy trees of the forest, but I didn't care; I kept on running.
I ran past trees, jumped over fallen branches, and nearly hit a mystical creature, a Bowtruckle, a small critter made of bark and twigs with two small brown eyes. Thankfully, it was fast enough to dodge me; I couldn't imagine what would have happened if I had run over it. The disappointed look on Hagrid's face flashed through my mind. As I ran, I heard twigs snapping and a panting sound behind me. It sounded like Leo, but Harry or Ron weren't there. Where did they go? At that moment, it wasn't important; all I could think about was running away from Leo. He's probably dying to get back at me, soaking in his freezing-cold clothing, thanks to the enchanted snowballs (I can't believe they actually worked!).
I stopped at a crossroads. I didn't want to go too far into the forest, for fear of encountering a centaur or unicorn or some other mystical creature who might harm me. I heard Leo's footsteps growing louder; should I simply give up? If I went any farther, I would surely be harmed, and Leo wouldn't do anything worse than what a creature from the Forbidden Forest could inflict on me.
"Amelia!" he managed to get out before he pushed me to the ground; he tripped over the root of a tree.
I face-planted into the mud, while Leo went flying to my left. "Come on!" I exclaimed, wiping dirt off my face.
"'Come on,' me?! You're the one who hit me in the face with two freezing snowballs!" Leo exclaimed in an annoyed tone.
We started laughing; I don't know why, it was just funny. We always laugh in terrible situations. It's a problem that we might need to work on, together.
After a minute or so, we stopped laughing, now gazing into each other's eyes. His chocolate-brown eyes hypnotizing me. I felt at ease with myself, nothing else in the world mattered anymore. Not school, not Uncle Moony's arrival, not even Harry not knowing I'm his sister. The only thing that mattered was that Leo was here with me, alone. Wait, no, I can't like him that way, he's my best friend, and it'll ruin our friendship, I can't...
He moved in, getting closer and closer. Three feet away, now two, not slowing down. I can't lie, it's not like I haven't dreamed of this moment before, I just never thought it would become reality. All of a sudden, I gave in; my body was no longer under my control. We were nose to nose, about to kiss, when I heard Harry, Ron, and Hermione calling our names.
"Amelia, Leo!" Hermione exclaimed relieved that we hadn't gotten lost in the Forbidden Forest. I was quickly pulled back to reality, and I turned my head to the right, away from Leo, who was stunned that I had denied his kiss. Leo was a good-looking man; most of the girls in our year probably had a crush on him, and they always showed affection to him, yet he never showed it back.
"Hey guys, sorry, we fell," I said. I'm not quite sure if Hermione saw me and Leo about to kiss. Honestly, I'm not sure I even want her to know; Hermione always has something to say about anything I even attempt to do. "Oh, you wanna sneak out past curfew tonight to hang out in the library? Why would you want to do that when we could hang out in our dorm room?" It's just more fun when you know you're not supposed to do it, okay, Hermione! Don't take it wrong though, I love you to death, and you're always right, too, so it's probably good I always listen to you (most of the time).
Harry, Hermione, and Ron helped Leo and me get up, and we went back to Gryffindor Tower. The boys went to their dorm to change out of their wet, freezing-cold clothing, while Hermione and I went to our dorm to clean up. I still had dirt all over myself, and Hermione did too. We took showers and put clean clothing on before going to bed. (I hadn't realized it, but it was 9:30 already. We missed dinner! How did time fly so fast?!) Out of the blue, Hermione asked me,
"So, what was all that between you and Leo, in the forest, today?" The question I'd been dreading, hoping she forgot about it, or just didn't see that moment at all. Hermione had always thought Leo and I were a perfect couple; she said that I always had this glimmer in my eyes whenever I talked to Leo, and vice versa. I always told her that she was seeing stuff, but I get it now, I saw that glimmer in his eyes today, and I'm afraid he saw it in mine, too. But to be completely honest with you, I think I do love him.
"You saw, didn't you?" I asked annoyed, putting my head in my hands from embarrassment.
Yes," she said in a proud tone, "I told you so."
"Do you have to say 'I told you so' every single time you're right?" I replied, exasperated.
"Only when you don't believe me at first."
"So that's all the time?"
"Yes," Hermione said with a smirk on her face, pulling her sheets over herself, signalling she was going to bed after a long day. I, for one, wanted to argue back at Hermione, but I didn't have the energy left to do so. I was so focused on the moment I had with Leo that I completely deflected any thoughts of being tired. My eyelids slowly sank, and I fell deeper and deeper asleep, slipping away from all my problems and falling into my only safe place, my dreams.
