Roman and Divinity worked together to push the couch up against the wall, followed by the coffee table. The apartment she had signed a lease for was looking like a home. She had signed a week ago and they had spent the week driving around to find good deals to fill up the apartment and call it a home. Now all it needed was her personal things and of course her. She still hadn't told her husband she was going to leave him.
"All done," he said.
He sat down on the couch and patted the spot next to him. She smiled at him, sat down next to him, and let him pull her into his arms like many times before. She let out a little sigh but he heard her.
"What's going through your head right now?" He asked.
"I'm gonna lose everything," she said. "Not just the fancy house and everything inside it. I don't care about that. It's all dead stuff anyway. I mean, everyone I know. The people that I call my friends are really his friends. My parents will throw a fit and disown me. They fucking adore him."
"Do they know what he's really like?" He asked.
"I tried telling my mom once and she told me to suck it up and get over myself. That a man like him doesn't come around often and I better give him everything he demands of me," she said.
"No offence but your mother sounds like a cunt," he said.
"A big one," she laughed.
She turned around, pushed herself up on her knees, and gave him a smile. She leaned in for a kiss and felt his fingertips dance over her shoulders.
"Fuck them all," she said.
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"Yes, I'm sure," she smiled. "I hate that life. He can keep his friends and my parents. I don't care as long as I have you."
"You have me," he smiled back. "Come here, my beautiful goddess."
He pulled her in for a kiss and she giggled in joy.
"Can I borrow your car tomorrow?" She asked.
"Sure," he answered. "What do you need it for?"
"I wanna move my stuff here tomorrow morning. I can park somewhere close to the house. He won't suspect anything. It'll just be another random car parked on the street. The second he leaves the house, I'll pack fast and throw everything in the car. Then I'll go to work and speak to one of the lawyers about getting a divorce. They can't take my case but they know who to direct me to," she said.
He pulled his car keys up from his pocket and grinned at her. She grinned back and grabbed the keys.
"Tonight will be my last night in that house," she said.
"I'll stop by tomorrow with dinner," he said.
"Something with fries," she said. "I crave some greasy fries. I wanna stuff myself with all the food he doesn't allow me to eat. Burger and fries and a big ass soda."
"You got it," he said.
Roman walked up the stairs to the second floor and knocked on Divinity's apartment. He smiled when he heard the door unlock. She opened the door and almost jumped into his arms.
"Wow, easy!" He laughed. "Don't make me drop the food."
"It smells so good," she said.
She took the bag of food from him and carried it into the living room. He kicked off his shoes and followed her in there. She had already set the table before he arrived. They sat down and he watched her as she took the food out of the bag. She had the cutest facial expression.
"How did it go?" He asked.
"He came with some tears and then some threats, and then I told him I was cheating on him. I've never seen him speechless before," she said.
"You told him?" He asked.
"It's the quickest way to get a divorce. If one of the people cheated, there's nothing left to fight for and try to work out," she said.
"You know he's gonna tell everyone," he said.
"I don't care," she said. "I don't care about being the bad guy in his story. No matter how good we are, we're always the bad guy in someone else's story. He's the bad guy in mine, and now I'm the bad guy in his."
She took a bite of her burger and let out a sound of satisfaction.
"It's so good," she said.
"I asked for extra chili mayo," he chuckled.
"Thank you. I love you," she said.
He placed his burger down on his plate and just stared at her. She swallowed the bite in her mouth and furrowed her brows.
"What?" She asked.
"I love you too," he said.
"Wait, did I...?" She started.
"You did," he chuckled.
"It might have been an accident but I'm not taking it back," she smiled warmly. "I love you, Roman."
He leaned over the table and gave her a kiss.
"100% success rate," she said.
He snorted in laughter and picked up his burger while nodding.
"Will you stay the night?" She asked.
"I'd love to," he said.
