ONE YEAR LATER
The Giga Horse, flagship of the Uzai Empire, cruised through the Solar System with Earth dead ahead. The Giga Horse was encompassed by an armada much bigger than the previous one led by Vrak. Prince Evon silently watched Earth become larger with his hands behind his back.
"Is that it?" Evon asked.
"It is, my lord."
"It doesn't look like anything special. I don't understand how people on such a backward planet could take down Vrak's fleet. Of course, my brother was worthless."
"My lord," Cycor said. "All ships are in position to begin the invasion."
"Excellent. I want you to launch the most ruthless attack possible."
"And they've been outfitted with our more advanced weapons," Obreyan said. She placed a hand on Evon's chest. "They will do this all in your name."
Evon patted her on the arm as he continued to his command chair. "We will conquer this planet and its primitive people without issues."
A brown-clad warrior walked through the doors on Evon's left. "My lord, my advice is to wait for your father."
"What?" Evon said shooting to his feet. "My father will have nothing to do with this invasion. This is all me. I will show that I'm the strongest and most capable. Do you all understand that?"
Cycor bowed to the prince. "Of course, my lord."
"I am the commander of this fleet and every subject of the empire in this fleet will listen to me and me alone."
"But, my lord…," Dreadnaut said. Evon slowly turned his head toward Dreadnaut wondering if he would take that time to choose his words carefully. "This planet proved too much for our fleet once before. What makes you so sure we will win this time?"
Letting his frustration get the better of him, Evon lashed out at Dreadnaut, storming over to him. "Are you questioning my superior intellect, Dreadnaut? I am the eldest son of the Uzai Empire. No one is better than me, especially those insects on that planet."
"Of course not, my lord. What are your orders?"
Satisfied with his submission, Evon returned to his command chair. "We will begin our invasion at once."
Meanwhile, a red galleon-shaped ship neared Earth. The five occupants stood in the main room as the blue planet grew larger on their viewscreen.
"It'll be so good to be home," Tomomi Hoshino said.
"Which home?" Cody McCabe asked walking up the steps to the main deck.
"Both."
"I'd like to see your actual home," Adrienne said walking up to the other two. "I've never been to Japan."
The console in front of Tomomi started beeping. She jumped back with her arms up as if she had caused it.
"Watch yourself, T-mo," Shawn Hartley said running over to her thinking she may have pressed something. She stepped aside to give him access to the panel. He pressed several buttons on the console to silence the beeping coming from it. On the screen, countless indicators appeared.
"Kian," he said. "I'm picking up an Uzai armada in Earth's orbit."
Kian sighed as he stood up from his chair. "Can't ever be easy."
Flying to the far side of the planet and then to Angel Grove took a lot of time. The invasion had already begun by the time they landed. The scenery was reminiscent of the first invasion that had resulted in their abduction.
The five of them walked through the remains of a residential area that once housed families. Now it was just hollowed-out broken husks that barely resembled houses. Adrienne picked up a charred teddy bear almost letting tears slip through. Gently putting the bear back on the ground, the group continued their trek through the debris.
They hadn't encountered any survivors by the time they were entering the business district of Angel Grove. None of them said much as they carefully took in their surroundings. They fought off the haunting memories of a year ago.
Screams ripped through the air bringing them back to the present. They saw a group of young children and their teachers running from some flatheads and a field commander. The field commander fired a blue beam from his pistol, dropping one of the teachers. Two male teachers stopped to fight the soldiers and allowed the students and the remaining two teachers to get away. The fleeing students and teachers turned a corner just as an explosion threw one of the male teachers past them.
The soldiers turned their attention to the students and the remaining two teachers, tossing one to the ground. The commander charged his gun as he taunted the terrified students with it.
"Like hell," Kian said.
Suddenly, the field commander was hit by a blast that knocked him into the wall. Everyone looked to the source to see Kian leading the other four toward the invaders.
"Who do you think you are?" the field commander asked.
"Cast off," Kian said. The others revealed tiny color-coded figurines. The bottom flipped up revealing a key. Each one of the five pulled out a device that looked like a large cell phone. They inserted the key into the device turning them. The top slid open revealing a skull and crossing swords design. Thrusting them forward, the five of them transformed much to the shock of everyone who bore witness. Their designs resembled pirates.
"Swords and sail," Kian said.
"POWER RANGERS!" they all shouted in unison.
Kian opened fire, hitting several soldiers and the commander before all five rangers leaped into battle. They swung their swords and fired their guns as they pushed the invaders away from the children, who looked on.
"Are they the new ranger team?" one of the teachers asked.
"Looks like it," the other said. "I haven't seen any rangers for about a year now."
Adrienne the pink ranger, shot several soldiers before swinging away on her grappling hook to another platform to take down more soldiers.
Tomomi the yellow ranger, darted through another hollowed-out building shooting and slicing soldiers. The only one to make physical contact with her was the one she kicked off the edge of the building.
Cody the blue ranger, jumped and rolled avoiding attacks while unleashing his own. While he had no problem shooting the soldiers, he always preferred to use his sword.
Shawn the green ranger, jumped backward off of a catwalk and caught hold of a wire where he bounced in and out of the fray while shooting his opponents.
Kian the red ranger, casually jumped around blocking and striking soldiers. After slashing one and stabbing another he flipped off of the platform as two more soldiers tried flanking him. He blocked both of their attacks with his sword and then shot both of them. He turned and threw his sword at another flat-top soldier who was sneaking up behind Cody. Cody had to slightly maneuver to avoid the sword.
"Hey, Shawn," Kian said.
Shawn, who was avoiding more flat tops heard the call and knew what Kian wanted. He threw his sword to Kian while Cody threw his gun to him. Kian kicked the gun to Shawn while grabbing the sword out of the air. Cody pulled the sword from the soldier's body and proceeded to fight with two swords, slicing rockets out of the air while Shawn swung around like an acrobat blasting with two guns.
The girls exchanged their weapons, with Adrienne taking both guns and Tomomi using two swords. Adrienne spun and danced around shooting flat tops while Tomomi sliced through the ones attacking her. She flipped into a large group of them, surrounded. She smiled behind her helmet as she launched her swords into the air but controlled them with strings, guiding them like a puppeteer as they hit their marks. She grabbed them out of the air once all of the flat tops had fallen.
Briefly thinking the battle was won, she heard more soldiers behind her. She turned around and voiced her frustration in Japanese as Cody, Shawn, and Adrienne joined her. Kian came over taking point.
"We can play around with them some more," Kian said.
"You mean?" Cody asked.
"He does," Shawn said.
"I'm game," Tomomi said.
"Let's do it," Adrienne said.
Kian hit the top of his belt buckle causing it to flip open revealing another ranger key inside. He held it up as the others did the same. They all matched in color except for Shawn's as his key was black. They all lined up next to each other pulling out their pirate morphers.
"It's morphin' time!" they all said in unison as they did the same motions as before. They remained morphed but their suits changed from pirates to ancient long extinct animals.
They had transformed into the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.
