The teachers continued to watch with their students instead of getting them to safety. The students weren't scared anymore as they watched the rangers fight off the invaders.
"They changed into the first Power Ranger team," one teacher said. "But I don't remember yellow having a skirt."
The Rangers combined their power weapons in the same manner as the original team did many years ago. Once assembled, they fired at the large group of soldiers, vaporizing them.
"Is that all of them?" Shawn asked.
Before anyone could answer a blue brute attacked as did several more flat tops and brutes. Giving themselves some space, the rangers pulled out more keys. They regrouped and shoved the keys into their morphers.
"Go Go, Samurai!" Large kanji appeared in front of each ranger, blocking the attack of the soldiers as the rangers transformed again. This time they were the Samurai Rangers.
Using their spin swords, the rangers took down more soldiers. They lined up again with more keys in their hands and put them into their morphers.
"Magical Source, Mystic Force!"
They transformed into the Mystic Force Rangers. While red, green, and pink looked like their real counterparts, yellow was sporting a skirt and white pants while blue had pants. The key was responding to the gender of the ranger, automatically changing between pants and skirts when necessary.
The rangers spun around holding their Magi staffs as the tips glowed brightly. The rangers unleashed different elemental attacks, easily taking down the soldiers.
The field commander casually strolled in front of the rangers as if he wasn't taking them seriously.
"You may have taken down my battalion but you're nothing against me." He fired his pistol as well as every weapon that was built into his body at the rangers. Explosions rocked the Rangers as Kian lost his Magi Staff. It changed back into its original form that Kian snatched out of the air. Each ranger jumped into the air and attacked the commander. They hit him from all sides and he couldn't keep up with them. He blocked one of Kian's attacks but was then kicked in the chest.
The rangers pulled out their pirate keys after pressing a button on their swords that caused a cylinder to pop out. They inserted and turned their keys before locking the cylinder in place. The blades of their swords glowed their respective colors.
Each ranger swung their swords toward the field commander sending out an energy wave that slammed into him. The alien invader fell to the ground and exploded. Everyone who bore witness cheered.
"One down," Shawn said.
"Ready to go," Cody said.
"We be fast," they said in unison.
"And they be slow," Kian said chiming in with them.
"That is not going to be something we're saying every time we defeat one of their field commanders," Adrienne said.
"We're just messing around," Shawn said. "It just seemed appropriate."
"We could say something like 'that's a super mega furious win'," Kian said.
"Please no."
They noticed the group of students and teachers approaching them. They turned to them as they morphed back into their civilian forms.
"Thank you for saving us," one teacher said.
"It's our job," Kian said. "We have to carry on the Ranger legacy."
"Are you from Earth?"
"Yeah," Cody said. "We were abducted to be slaves during the first invasion. We escaped and found a way to fight back."
"Why are they back?"
"We're not sure yet?" Kian said. "It could be unfinished business for them or just revenge for destroying their original fleet."
"In any case," Adrienne said. "We're here to stop them. We will make them pay for what they've done."
Kian looked at her from the corner of their eye. Her voice was laced with so much venom that hearing it would put them all down permanently. It was true they all had suffered at the hands of the Uzai but Kian realized he didn't know the extent for the others.
A short while later, they walked through Kian's old neighborhood where he grew up. Houses were dark, and empty and were being reclaimed by nature. Those were the houses that were still standing. Other houses were leveled in the first invasion or were partially standing. No one had come back since the first wave a year ago.
Kian hoped his family would be here. He hadn't seen them since his abduction. His house was one of the less that fortunate ones that appeared to have been blown apart. There was no one around as if this place had been completely forgotten. Everything from his life was completely gone. He could show his emotions now. Not in front of his team.
"Any of you need to go any place to find anyone?" Kian asked. Adrienne was the only one who verbally answered no. "All right, let's get back to the ship."
Back on the ship, Kian silently sat in his chair while the other three did various tasks. Shawn stood at the console going over the historical data of Angel Grove.
"It appears that Angel Grove was one of the harder-hit areas during the first invasion. Reefside was another badly hit area. Harwood County wasn't so badly hit but suffered damage. The invasion fleet was so focused on the rangers that they didn't do much while the Angel Grove and Reefside forces met with no real opposition." Kian shifted only his eyes to Shawn who had stopped talking and just stared at the console. That was a tough subject for Shawn as he was from Reefside.
"Any updates on the armada?"
Shawn shook his head as he entered more commands into the console. "They're still in orbit and it doesn't look like they're wanting to leave. In fact, I'm picking up another group of flatheads and brutes."
Kian stood up. "Well, let's go stretch our legs and get some fresh air."
Prince Evon paced around the bridge of the Giga Horse. He hadn't expected the new power ranger team to put down one of his field commanders so easily. Dreadnaut walked up to Evon.
"The Rangers just defeated another battalion."
"So what else is new? Just shut up when you talk to me unless it's good news," Evon said. "Have I come up with a new plan yet?"
"Yes, you have," Dreadnaut said. "The new field commander is ready as well as another part of the plan. I discovered the identities–"
"Send him in," Evon said not caring what Dreadnaut had to say. The door behind him opened revealing a grotesque green tentacled creature with some gray body armor and red tubes and bulbs attached. Most of his face was covered by a red visor.
"I'm ready to destroy those rangers," he said.
Cycorg stood in front of him as if he was representing the field commander. "He is powerful enough to take them down."
"Fine," Evon said. "Then do it already."
Dreadnaut turned away from the group. "I'll just carry out my plan on my own accord."
The rangers sat on some debris after defeating another group of flatheads and brutes. This battle was in the same general area where they fought their first battle.
"We're in for it now," Cody said. "I think we've made it pretty clear that the empire has a fight on its hands and that we're not just going to bow down."
"Kian?" a voice called out. Everyone looked up to see a guy standing there who looked to be around Kian's age.
Kian narrowed his eyes as he recognized the guy. "Greg? Glad to see you're still here." He jogged over and hugged his old friend.
"Yeah, I haven't seen you in a while."
"I was one of the ones taken."
"A lot of people were. You're the first I've seen since then, including your family."
"Yeah, I'm not optimistic about them being lucky enough to have escaped. The invaders hit our neighborhood hard, I'm surprised you weren't taken."
"Not many of us weren't." Kian studied his face, noticing some slight bruising. Greg picked up on it. "Don't worry about that. Just the result of trying to fight back against them."
"Be careful out there. We're doing what we can to drive them away."
"What do you mean? Wait, do you mean you're the new Power Ranger team?"
Kian let a small smile slip. "Yeah, we are."
"That's great. Listen, I'm late so I gotta run but it was great to see you."
"Yeah, you too." Kian watched his old friend depart before turning back to his team. Seeing him again did give him a sense of hope and that not all was lost, at least before becoming a Power Ranger.
"He escaped the capture squads?" Cody asked.
"Apparently," Kian said.
"That's surprising," Adrienne said.
"Yeah, but I'm glad to see not everyone was taken."
"That's the surprising part. Those squads are pretty thorough. They're not your run-of-the-mill soldiers nor are their field commanders. Those guys are no joke."
"What are you saying?"
"Something's off about him."
"Like what? He didn't even know we were power rangers."
"So he claims."
"Okay, say you're right. What would he gain?"
"Not him," Adrienne said. "He's a tool."
A group of flatheads and brutes rushed at them catching them all off guard. The rangers lined up to pull out their keys.
"Cast off," Kian said reaching into his pocket. The other four pulled out their keys and morphers but Kian had yet to pull either out.
"What the…?" The others looked at him. He motioned with his head toward the oncoming soldiers. "Go take care of them."
Cody, Shawn, and Tomomi morphed and engaged the soldiers. Adrienne didn't bother to morph as she approached Kian.
"Your morpher and key are missing?"
Kian looked in the direction he last saw his old friend. "That son of a..."
