Greg crept through an abandoned housing area that was in ruins. The area reeked of death but he ignored it as he passed through. He hadn't ventured through this area very often but he could at least recognize it despite the carnage.

Explosions and screams echoed from the neighboring business district that housed a lot of office buildings and newer businesses. He remembered that the area was leveled during the first invasion.

He continued forward until he realized he was being followed. He had an idea who it was but didn't bother to turn around to confirm it. He sensed their eyes were trained on him.

"And what might you be doing headed toward the area that is currently under attack?" Adrienne said from Greg's right. Her voice startled him as he didn't realize anyone else was nearby. He never heard her approach him.

"I was hoping to see you guys in action since you said you're the Power Rangers."

"Kinda hard to do that since you stole my morpher," Kian said.

Adrienne heard Greg inhale to respond but jumped in front of him to cut him off. "Don't you dare say you don't know what we're talking about because we know you have it."

Greg suddenly sprinted off and Adrienne was in hot pursuit. She chased him to where the chaos sounded as though it was right around the corner. She dove and pulled him down. He dropped the pirate key but still kept hold of the morpher. She got on top of him and started punching him across the face.

"How can you be so stupid?" she asked. Kian ran up and wrapped his arms around her pulling her back. Greg sat up spitting out blood.

"You don't know what I went through," he said.

"The hell we don't," Adrienne spat as she retrieved the pirate key. "You're collaborating with them. Why?"

"I think that's my line," Kian said.

"I was abducted when they invaded the first time. I was one of the lucky ones to be a ship slave on the Giga Horse. They said if I help them, they'd release my family."

"Have you seen you're family at all?" Kian asked.

Greg shook his head.

"They're dead," Adrienne said. "They've been dead for a while. The Uzai had no intention of ever living up to their word."

"How did they even know you were familiar with me?"

"One of the generals asked if any of us had ties to any of the rangers. None of us knew there was even a new team until they showed pictures of you all. They said we'd be rewarded if we helped."

Kian held out his hand wanting Greg to return his morpher. "You have to realize they're just using you and we're the only chance the world has at stopping them."

"Are you crazy?" Greg asked. "There's no stopping them. All the past rangers weren't enough to stop them so what makes you think the five of you are enough?"

"The outcome isn't always the important thing," Kian said. "It's the effort in doing so. Don't you remember our history classes? Do you remember learning about the rebellions in Japan?"

"That was a lifetime ago."

"Do you remember the outcomes of the Saga Rebellion and Satsuma Rebellion?"

Greg nodded. "Yeah, they both lost."

"But they fought. That's the point. They fought for what they believed in and despite losing, the two leaders, Eto Shimpei and Takamori Saigo are now revered. As long as the chance of us winning isn't zero percent then we can continue. The world needs us now."

"I'd rather die fighting than live kneeling," Adrienne said.

"You used to get into so much trouble back in high school," Kian said. You got into so many fights and one of those fights was with the gym teacher. What happened to that Greg? You're nothing like him now. All I see now is some pathetic coward."

Seeing the look of defeat disappear from Greg's face, Kian closed his eyes and reached into his inside jacket pocket. He pulled out the red Samurai key and tossed it to Greg much to the surprise of both Greg and Adrienne.

Greg opened the morpher and slowly inserted the red Samurai key and turned it. The Japanese kanji for fire appeared in front of him. It spun around before it enveloped him turning him into the red Samurai ranger. He looked at the monster and flat heads as images of his family, who were most likely dead, flashed through his mind. Drawing his spin sword he sprinted into the fray.

Kian and Adrienne looked on as Greg ran his blade across the chests, faces, and necks of flathead soldiers. Cody, Shawn, and Tomomi finally joined them with confused looks.

"What's going on?" Tomomi asked.

"Is that your old friend?" Shawn asked.

"That's reckless as hell," Cody said.

Kian didn't respond to his team. He just watched Greg take down the group of flatheads. His eyes widened when Greg sprinted toward the latest field commander.

"I didn't expect him to take on the field commander too."

More flathead soldiers appeared that blocked their path to get to Greg as he swung at the field commander. His attack was blocked by the commander's arm.

"You forgot your place, slave." He knocked Greg back with a punch across the face and sent him rolling across the ground. He got back to his feet but his next attack was blocked and quickly followed by a kick and then an elbow to the back. Greg was on the ground again and received an onslaught of stomps to his back. The commander picked him up by the back of his neck and kneed him repeatedly in the stomach.

Greg tried to attack again but his attempt was once again thwarted. He was punched in the face and then kicked back. This kick was stronger as he lost his spin sword and landed hard on his back at the edge of the platform. He held his stomach as he stumbled backward not knowing what to do next.

The field commander backhanded him hard off the platform and into the wall of a nearby building, leaving an impact crater. Greg hit the ground hard and wasn't moving. The morpher and key bounced away causing him to morph back into his civilian form but the field commander wasn't finished with him.

Kian realizing what was about to happen sprinted toward the field commander. The others ran toward Greg hoping to save him in time. The field commander fired a volley of missiles that left nothing but a hole in the ground.

The rangers stopped in their tracks in horror as Kian dropped to his knees. The field commander muttered some insult before walking off to cause more destruction.

Kian finally stood up and picked up his morpher and key. His gaze shifted to the crater where nothing was left of Greg. The only solace Kian could find was that Greg went out a fighter rather than a slave. He thought about their time in high school together and always hearing about the trouble Greg had caused for the teachers.

Screams of terror brought Kian back to the present.

"Come on," Adrienne said.

Kian nodded as he led the team into battle.
