(A/N: I do not own Paw Patrol, enjoy! This chapter rated T)

"What do we have here…" Everest said, turning to a page with trees and a path.

"Nothing" Marshall said reflexively as he slammed both his paws down on the pictures and title. All Everest could see was an "Fo" and that the last digit of the rating was a "9."

"Fine, you'll just show me later" Everest said before flipping more pages until she found one that looked interesting.

Surfing Lessons - 66.6…

"Dude, you should teach Evewest how to suwf" Zuma told Marshall one day. "It is welaxing and vewy similar to snow boawding which she loves. You'll be able to just chill and cool off on this hot summer day."

"Not a bad idea Zuma," Marshall admitted, "except I'm terrible at surfing."

"Well, you at least have fun while you are at it" Zuma said before cocking his head. "You know, you could try Zuwfing."

"What is Zurfing?" Marshall asked.

Zuma wore a conspiratorial smirk as he leaned in, "it is where you use suwfing as an excuse to check out a hot pup, get her all wet, and give her compliments on her figuwe, especially her butt."

"What? I'm not doing that Zuma!" Marshall recoiled. "Has that ever worked for you?"

"All the time dude" Zuma said while waving his paw like he was riding the end of a wave. "Chicks dig those compliments; it is a toss up on whether that gets them going mowe or my speech impediment."

"You're kidding, right?" Marshall asked incredulously.

"Don't knock it till you twy it dude" Zuma said with a wave before he went to grab his surf board.

No way Marshall thought to himself as he watched Zuma toss his board into his hovercraft and head to the beach. There is no way I could say that to Everest, no matter how wonderful I think she looks. It just seems so crass and shallow and flirty and yucky and..wait, did I just think flirty? Flirty isn't bad, is it? Maybe she would like it… Marshall pondered that possibility as he wandered toward his pup house.

Everest was laying inside Jake's cabin in front of a fan, panting hard. It was an unseasonably hot day for so early in the spring and she hadn't really shed her winter undercoat yet. Everest felt like she would succumb to a heat injury at any moment when her pup tag rang.

"That better not be someone in distress" Everest mumbled before answering.

"Hey Everest" a bright and chipper voice said.

"Hey Marshall" Everest said with a smile, "got anything you could prescribe me to cool down before we go do whatever you need my help with?"

"Actually, I don't have a rescue or need your help" Marshall replied, "I was wondering if you wanted to come down to the beach to hang out, that is if nothing is going on up there."

"Cook myself on the beach, no thank you" Everest responded with a shake of her head. "That sounds sounds the opposite of what I need right now."

"I was actually thinking of playing in the cool water instead" Marshall said bashfully.

Everest smacked her paw on her forehead, "I guess the heat is getting to me, yes that sounds great, I'll be down in a jiffy."

"Ok, see you soon" Marshall said before hanging up.

"Jake" Everest called to her owner, "I'm going down to the beach to play in the water with Marshall."

"Not a bad idea dudette" Jake said as he walked in from his room, "all that cool water should really help you."

"I hope so, see you later Jake!" Everest said before bounding out the door. Despite the heat, she was still amped up to hangout with Marshall. Her snowcat started with a growl and she quickly drove down the mountain.

At the lookout, Marshall was getting things ready. He had liver treats, lots of drinking water, an umbrella, a beach volleyball, some other water toys, and surfboards for both of them. I guess we'll see what happens he thought to himself before driving to the beach.

Marshall parked his truck and setup the umbrella so that they would have shade. He had just finished laying out the towels when Everest pulled up.

"Hi Marshall" Everest said as she hopped down.

"Hi Everest" Marshall replied, giving her a high paw before she flopped down on the shaded towel.

"I take it you just got setup?" Everest panted.

"Yeah, sorry, it isn't cool just yet" Marshall apologized.

"I would be surprised if it was" Everest said kindly, "I figured you just got here which all the more reason to get into the water faster."

"Then let's go" Marshall said happily. Both pups jogged over to the water. Marshall bounded in, making a decent splash. Everest, on the other paw, dove in, making a mini wave.

"That feels sooo nice and cool" Everest moaned happily as the cool water soaked through all the layers of her fur. The water felt so wonderful that Everest just stayed there floating for a few minutes as her body cooled down.

Marshall waited patiently for her to get acclimated before offering up the first game. "So, how do you feel about a game of surf tag?"

"What is surf tag?" Everest asked.

"It is just like normal tag but you have to stay in the surf zone. You can't swim out and you can't get all the way out of the water, even if from the wave action" Marshall explained.

"Sounds fun, on one condition" Everest said.

"What's that?" Marshall asked, cocking his head quizzically to the side even though he already knew.

"Tag! You're it!" Everest laughed as she booped Marshall on the nose before splashing off. Marshall laughed as he splashed after her.

The two had been playing surf tag for at least an hour when disaster struck. Everest was bounding away from Marshall when she felt something sharp pierce her paw. "Ouch!" She yelped as she pulled her right forepaw out of the water.

"You ok?" Marshall asked as he ran up to her.

"I think I stepped on something" Everest whimpered.

Marshall looked down and saw a fire urchin next to Everest's left forepaw. "I think you stepped on a fire urchin, Everest" Marshall said as he took her gently by the paw and led her out of the water.

"It really stings" Everest whimpered as she hobbled along.

Zuma was on lifeguard duty and half paying attention to the water crowd, half to a cute Corgi on the beach when he heard the yelp. Turning his head, he saw Marshall leading Everest out of the water. "Aww phooey" Zuma said as he jumped off his lifeguard tower and ran over

"Are you ok Evewest?" Zuma asked as he ran up.

"I don't know, I stepped on something sharp" Everest whimpered.

"Looked like a fire urchin" Marshall added as he helped Everest back under the umbrella before laying her down on her side on a towel.

"Oh, that pwobably huwts a lot" Zuma nodded, "but don't wowwy, I know a sure fire cure!"

"And what is that?" Marshall asked, rolling his eyes as he grabbed his medical kit out of his truck.

"Just wemove the spine and pee on it" Zuma replied matter of factly.

"What? Eww, no!" Everest replied, reflexively drawing her hurt forepaw in. "That is disgusting!"

"I learned it from an old medicine penguin, it works wonders" Zuma defended his plan.

"You are nuts if you think I'm going to let you pee on me" Everest growled.

"I don't think that will be necessary" Marshall laughed as he laid down in the sand by Everest's head. "Now give me your paw."

"What are you going to do?" Everest asked as she slowly extended her hurt forepaw.

"Remove the spine" Marshall said, "I'm sorry, this part will hurt but it has to come out."

Everest nodded as Marshall carefully took her paw on his own. His touch was expertly soft as he examined the Husky. Taking a pair of tweezers in his jaws, Marshall carefully grabbed the end of the spine and slowly started to pull it out. Everest whimpered and whined and grit her teeth because it hurt pretty badly. But soon it was out and Everest breathed a sigh of relief.

"Thanks Marshall" Everest said, giving him a gentle headbutt.

"Don't thank me yet" Marshall said, "we have more to do."

"Please tell me you aren't going to pee on it," Everest begged.

"Don't worry, I'm not going to do that" Marshall replied with a laugh, grabbing a gauze pad and dabbing it in a fluid.

Everest gagged at the smell. "Eww, what is that?"

"Vinegar" Marshall replied, "it will dissolve any remaining bits of spine. It will probably sting a little."

"I'd almost prefer you pee on it" Everest gagged again as Marshall took her paw again and pressed it against the wound. Zuma shot Marshall a look which he ignored. Everest hissed but the pain only lasted a moment, but she really hated the smell.

"Ok, all done" Marshall said as he removed the gauze pad.

"Finally" Everest said as she shook her paw before turning to look at the ocean. "I guess I should stay out of the water the rest of the day, huh?"

"Probably a good idea, you don't want to let it get infected" Zuma said.

Everest sighed sadly, she really wanted to keep playing in the water.

Marshall felt bad for her, "Don't give up Everest, I have an idea."

Everest cockered her head quizzically as Marshall took her paw again. Taking a roll of waterproof bandage tape, Marshall carefully wrapped her paws up.

"So this is what it takes for you to hold her paw" Zuma whispered in Marshall's ear.

"Stow it" Marshall hissed back.

"What was that?" Everest asked.

"Nothing!" Marshall and Zuma replied guiltily.

Everest mentally smirked, she had heard every word. He does have a nice touch she thought to herself.

"Now that your paw is wrapped up, how do you feel about learning how to surf?" Marshall asked.

"Ice or Snow I'm ready to go!" Everest replied happily.

"It's just like snowboarding" Marshall said as he laid a surfboard down on the sand and hopped on. "The only difference is how you watch the wave, you have to find the right groove."

"Cool, let's go!" Everest said as she grabbed the other surfboard.

"Have fun Zuwfing you two" Zuma said with a wink.

Marshall kicked some sand in Zuma's face before grabbing the surfboard and running after Everest. Zuma just laughed as he brushed the sand from his face and headed back to his lifeguard tower.

Everest splashed into the surf and jumped on the board. Marshall splashed into the surf beside her and jumped on the board and started paddling out. Everest copied what Marshall was doing and followed him.

As a wave started to come in, Marshall turned to Everest to show her how to go through the wave. "Put your paws on the nose of your board, hold your breath and push down." Marshall then demonstrated as the wave came up to them. Everest copied him perfectly and came up beside him on the back side of the wave.

"That was fun" Everest said, shaking the water from her fur.

"We are just getting started" Marshall said as they paddled out to where the other surfers were congregating. Marshall showed Everest how to watch the waves to find the right one to ride. Then, he showed her how to dig in and start riding the wave.

Everest wiped out a few times before she got the hang of it and was able to start riding the waves. A few more wipeouts later, she was able to reliably ride a wave of her choosing.

"This is so much fun!" Everest yipped as they waited for another wave.

"Yeah it is" Marshall replied. He was having a ton of fun with Everest and didn't want it to end anytime soon.

The two pups surfed for hours, only taking a short break to scarf down some lunch and for Marshall to check Everest's wound. The bandage was doing a great job of keeping the water out and it was already starting to heal nicely.

They spent the rest of the afternoon surfing together. Other surfers came and went but the two pups stayed out. As the afternoon wore on, there were fewer and fewer surfers out as the temperature dropped. As the sun dipped down, maybe 30 minutes or so before sunset, Marshall and Everest were the only surfers remaining.

"This has been a great day hanging out with you" Everest said as she laid back on her surfboard, watching the sun slowly sink towards the horizon.

"I've enjoyed it a lot too" Marshall said. He could feel that this was a good moment, maybe even the right moment.

"You are so wonderfully attractive, Everest, I could watch you forever, you are the definition of irresistible, your tail is so hot it could start a fire and your butt is so perfectly fluffy."

"That's what you are going with?" Everest asked incredulously.

"I admit, that is the weakest part of the plan" Marshall said hesitantly. He had barely managed to get the words out now and he was actively dating Everest. It just wasn't his style and trying to make it work made it sound even worse.

Everest just shook her head sadly.

*SLAP!*

Everest slapped him so fast that he never saw it coming. The slap sent Marshall flying off his surf board and into the water with a extra large splash.

Marshall kicked to the surface and threw his forepaws over his surfboard, gasping for air. As he looked up, he regretted not drowning.

Everest was standing on her surfboard, towering over him like she was about to devour him, every muscle quivering in anger.

"HAVE YOU BEEN STARING AT MY BEHIND ALL DAY?! IS THAT WHAT THIS IS ALL ABOUT; A CHANCE FOR YOU TO OGGLE ME LIKE SOME PLAYTHING FOR YOUR FREE TIME?! IS THAT ALL YOU FREAKING CARE ABOUT?!" Everest screamed at him.

Marshall was cowering as Everest continued, "I DONT NEED YOU TO TELL ME HOW AMAZING I LOOK, I KNOW IM A HOT PUP! NOT ONLY THAT, I AM INCREDIBLY ACCOMPLISHED AS A MEMBER OF THIS TEAM! HOW DARE YOU PRESUME TO SAY SOMETHING SO DEGRADING TO ME THAT IGNORES EVERYTHING ABOUT ME EXCEPT HOW SEXY MY TAIL LOOKS?!" Everest raised her paw again, ready to bring a crushing blow down on Marshall's skull.

"After you kill me" Marshall whimpered, "make sure you swim away fast so the sharks just eat my remains and leave you alone…" Marshall shut his eyes as he waited for the inevitable.

Nothing happened.

Marshall cautiously cracked one eye open. Staring back at him was a molten blue eye. "Oh I'm not going to kill you…" Everest whispered in a voice that made Marshall's blood freeze solid. "I have something far worse planned for you…"

Oh no, she is going to tell everyone! Ryder will kick me off the team for sure! I'll be the laughingstock of pups everywhere, everyone in the world will know what happened and I'll die cold and starving and alone in a ditch somewhere, I'll… Marshall's panicked thoughts were suddenly silenced.

Silenced by Everest pressing her lips against his. Totally confused, Marshall closed his eyes and enjoyed what he expected to be his last seconds of life before she turned him into shark bait.

"I'm going to show you exactly what you've been missing while I've been waiting for you hot stuff…" Everest whispered seductively…

"Wait, what just happened?" a very confused Marshall asked.

"You are too pure for your own good Marshy my love" Everest giggled. "Zuma was actually right about a few things. Girls do love compliments and especially comments about how nice we look. That being said, there is a right way and wrong way to go about delivering those compliments. Zuma's method may work on some pups, but there is no way you could pull it off yourself; it just creates this clash between your personality and the words you are saying. Between that, and your terrible compliment, it was just revolting."

"I'm sorry" Marshall apologized, laying his head down in shame.

"Don't feel bad babe," Everest said, laying down next to him on her side, facing him. "Take it as a compliment that Zuma's play-pup style doesn't work for you." Everest used her paws to roll Marshall onto his side facing her. "And I can teach you how to deliver a compliment that will be well received." Everest wrapped her forepaws around Marshall, and he naturally did the same. "The first step is knowing what you are complimenting…" Everest whispered in a sultry voice as she pushed Marshall's paws downward.

"Oh sweet pup treats!" Marshall whispered before fainting.

"I guess we aren't getting to intimacy level two today" Everest giggled as she kissed the unconscious Dalmatian on the nose. "You don't know it, but fainting from the amazing feeling of touching me is a wonderful compliment, Marshy" Everest softly continued as she snuggled as close to him as she could make herself.

(A/N: How far down did Marshall's paws make it before he fainted? The world wonders…let me know what you think! Special thanks to MarshalB and Amelia154 for their feedback on writing this chapter!)
