Going to what was happening with those that stayed behind in Mega Central...
"This far worse than we could have ever imagined," the leader of the normal defense force said looking things over as they made their way into the main government building.
"How in the world did things get this bad right under our noses" the vice leader stated
That is the question we would have to answer for ourselves once everything has settled down the leader replied.
The defense force was successful in overtaking the government themselves. It was even that hard for them really as thinking they were thinking that key members of the government were replaced with duplicates and/or those that took over were siding with the Robotnik brothers. Thus serving as means to sabotage them from within before calling for a ceasefire as they had.
That thinking had been way off the mark as they did not want to risk too much fighting in the government building itself. Thus a technical marvel that they had just finished developing in joint session with the technomage was put into usage for the first time. It was the only one of its kind at the moment though avoid it falling into the wrong hands the original blueprints were not written down but kept within the mind of the one who came with the idea.
A specialized EMP burst bomb that would shut down only robots. It worked to flush out even though they were shielded against normal EMPs through a method that was thought up by the creator. A crude idea that shows their age as it was a diamond in the rough however once refined it should be shinned like the brightest of them. At least that was the theory behind it after all. Since they did not want to cause too much harm this was used first.
Sure it might cause some confusion but it should help flush out any disguised robots for sure. However, what the group saw before them left them all in utter shock and amazement. It seemed there were no Overlanders in the building at all as everyone had been functional roboticized Overlanders that could mimic their original selves perfectly. The bomb had worked perfectly as they had all been shut down in the middle of whatever they were doing at the moment.
"This is truly unheard of," the defense force leader said
They noticed people sitting in the cafeteria area that was frozen at the moment. They were merely sitting there nothing in front of them but were seemingly in the middle of talking and acting as if nothing had changed for them at all.
"The leader there is nothing in these pots at all they are all empty and seem to be have been for quite some time now" the vice leader said looking in the cafeteria worker that stuck going through the motion of serving basically air. Everyone just acted as if they were eating not actually doing it after all.
"It can not be that everyone here in the government building is has been roboticized. Were they merely acting like their old selves or are they just roboticized and do not know it yet" another said.
'Sorry I am not that hungry lately so I have to pass.'
'I ate enough at work so do not worry about me.'
'You know I am finding myself liking watching you eat more than doing so myself lately.'
'Dining out? Why do not we do something else instead'
'I know since I am not that hungry how about I make you something instead.'
These were all the thoughts run through the leader of the normal defense force's head as he looked at the sight before him in shock and horror. It was one that he never thought he would see...one that he never thought that he could see as well. It was something that should not have been possible yet it was right before his eyes thus he could ignore the reality of it all just staring before him.
There sitting amongst others that were currently frozen in place having been shut down by a specialized EMP burst that only targeted robots. It was his girlfriend that he had been living with for a few years now. She was just sitting there amongst her other coworkers the same smile that she always had on her face was there. That smile that could light a room and he always looked forward to seeing after work was there however seeing it like this it felt so hallow. Sure the smile was there but those eyes she had at the moment did not see any sign of intelligence nor life to them at all. They were dull and vacant as if something had just been turned off inside of her.
"The leader snapped out of it," his second in command told him.
"We managed to find this all out and thanks to the bomb we did not have to engage with them at all. So we should really let everyone else know what is happening here. The world needs to know what is going on here after all" they added.
Not revealing their plan to carry out what they were doing to anyone even some members of the normal defense force. This was something they had to ensure was not going to get out and become known to anyone outside of themselves. Thus they spent all their time doing so also not revealing this finding to anyone else outside of the Mega Central or even writing it down. Seeing what they were seeing now was probably a good thing. If everyone in this building had been roboticized and had been for some time now. Then the plan would have been leaked and things could have gone a whole lot worse than they had for them.
So when the leader of the normal defense force was about to do just that the moment they picked up something to communicate this fact...they stopped. As the flash had occurred and they were instantly roboticized rather than doing that they returned to their post as they were defense force members. This place was not somewhere they needed to defend or be at the moment thus returning to their post as their programming dictated to them now. With the expecting of the now roboticized defense force leader as he left command of the forces to the vice leader. The restarting of the roboticized Overlander within the government building would his current task.
