Those New Guys
PART 1
Rey's (Stephan's) POV
Music was the first thing that graced my ears once I woke up the next day. The music honestly wasn't something that I appreciated though, no matter how whimsical and light-hearted it sounded. I groaned as my eyes slowly opened, adjusting to the darkness of my room. It wasn't totally dark though as the dim blue light from the sky, which was the hue it was due to the rising sun I couldn't see, filtered light into my room. I shifted my head to the side and groaned at my phone which was still playing that annoying music.
It was my alarm and I hated it with every fiber of my being at that moment. However, when comparing it to how my grandparents would push my door open and turn on the light right near said door (which was bright as fuck), and exclaiming how it's time to get up, this alarm was the better alternative. I reached over and slid the clock icon on my screen to the side, turning it off. I sighed and looked down at my body, seeing the two sleeping Pokemon in random locations on my chest area. Mira on my chest under the sheets and Kai on my side. I'm surprised those two haven't woken up from that alarm…granted, it's not like I had the sound blaring. It was just loud enough to wake me because of how much of a light sleeper I am.
I raised a hand to my face and grabbed the bridge of my nose, working up the courage to get up. After nearly a week of constant training, not to mention the crazy adventure we had yesterday with Mohammed and Jonta'e in going to the Pokemon world, I felt drained. Granted, I definitely wasn't expecting Mira to turn us into Pokemon OR to even fight off Pokemon Poachers but I know that I wasn't hearing the end of it from either of them yesterday. Hell, if I'm right, I might not hear the end of it from them today either or the next year…not that I can deny their excitement. It's not every day you go to another world and turn into a magical creature with awesome powers. Like something out of an anime…well…
Alright, with that small bit of monologuing out of the way, I slowly shifted my Mew sister from my stomach to the bed, thankfully not stirring her. I swung my legs over my bed and took a few seconds to collect myself. "Dammit, I wish I was out of school right now." I can do this though. Summer vacation is literally around the corner and it's not like there is too much important shit to do in school these days. Just gotta get through 'em is all.
I stood up and stretched, feeling strangely exhilarated from my own few words of self-encouragement. Summer vacation IS around the corner! And not only that, Jakey is gonna be moving from Colorado to Ohio! I just hope that it's within driving distance and we'll, for sure, be hanging out a bunch. I'd tell him about the Pokemon shit but I think it'd be best to show him personally. Besides, you can't trust the internet nowadays, right? As if I'm sending a picture of a real Riolu or Mew online. Maybe people would think they're realistic renditions but I won't change anything. Besides, contrary to what one might think, besides our world not having that animated aspect to it, Pokemon in our world honestly don't look too different. Just their details are much more accentuated like their fur and such.
Grabbing anything needed for the bathroom, I made my way out of the door to freshen up for the day with the usual things. Relieving myself, brushing my teeth with added mouthwash, and washing up my torso in the sink. Though as I looked at myself in the mirror, I couldn't help but finger the necklace around my neck, seeing the misty-like power slowly swirl around in the sphere. I know dad said this was to help keep Shadow Giratina off my back and all if he ever came around me or something…but I must admit that it looks badass. I'll have to hide it under my shirt so as to not draw attention.
"Good morning," my grandmother called out to me, her climbing out of bed.
The bathroom was slightly parallel to her's and Grandpa Charles' so it was easy for her to see me once she stood up. Her light was on and so was the TV, which Charles turned on. This is also one of the only times one can see how old she is without her makeup, dentures, and wigs. Crazy how accessories can change a person.
"Morning, grandma," I replied with a small wave and walked back to my room.
Coming back in with my bathroom supplies and placing them back in the appropriate location, I went over and grabbed my phone before placing it on my desk, currently ignoring the sleeping Pokemon. Jonta'e, Mohammed, and I agreed that, until school ends, I'd be picking them up from their houses so we can drive there. This would give us a bit of time, plus breakfast time at school, to talk about Pokemon stuff and to better go over what we plan to do moving forward.
"I wonder what they think they're doing, trying to include themselves like that. I mean, it's me who must be careful here. They don't have some crazy bad guy trying to come after them." I said to myself.
But that's unfair for me to say. If one of them was the son of a powerful entity, I'd wanna know everything going on with my friends too. Especially if I was in a situation where I was given powers, however temporary. I grabbed a blue short-sleeve button shirt, a slightly misshapen striped tie, and dress pants; the school uniform. I heard a small groan behind me and looked to see the small white and black Fighting-type sit up in the bed. He yawned and rubbed his eyes before looking at me.
"R-Rey? What…what are you doing up so early?" Kai sleepily asked me. He turned his head and saw me putting on my pants.
"I told you and Mira last night, remember? I've got school." I said, putting on my shirt right after. Kai just blinked and yawned again.
"Oh…yeah," he said without a care, rubbing his eyes. "So…what's that again?"
"It's a place kids go to learn things about the world, prepare us for our futures as adult humans…and do a crap job at it." I looked back to the bed and saw Mira sitting up herself, stretching her short arms and yawning.
"And…you and your bed are very comfortable to sleep on, Rey."
I smiled a little bit. "Well, I'm glad I'm a comfortable pillow. Both of you are comfortable yourselves…I mean, when you're not sleeping at random locations on my body."
I got back to getting dressed properly, fixing up my tie or as fixed up as it could be. Mira, after being sufficiently woken up, used 'Psychic' to turn on the switch for my lamp to light up my room properly before floating over to me. Kai laid back down on his back and sighed.
"What's the big deal about this school place anyway? Especially for you to have to leave so early? What are you even learning about anyway?"
I thought about it for a bit before shrugging. "Mainly…a lot of shit that won't help us in life unless we're trying to specifically look for a job pertaining to whatever is being fed to us. So, all in all, it's boring as far as learning goes."
I could just feel Kai's groan. "Wonderful." That was very sarcastic, just so you know. "So, what am I supposed to do then? You said other humans in this world can't know about us Pokemon existing in their reality…besides your two friends, of course."
Mira floated over to him and bopped him on the nose lightly. "Well, you are going to be a good partner and stay in your Premier Ball for however long Rey needs you too. There's no way you're staying here by yourself."
Kai didn't seem to like that with how he narrowed his eyes to her. "Say what?" He then turned his head to look at me putting on my shoes. "And how long would that be?"
I didn't miss a beat in my response. "7 hours."
That got Kai to shoot up and look at me like I was crazy. Luckily, Mira was fast enough to zip to the side to avoid a vicious accidental headbutt, as Kai seemed to have forgotten she was there. Or, should I say as if he forgot she was there.
"Say what!? 7 hours in the Premier Ball!? What if I gotta eat!? Or take a piss or a dump!? How am I supposed to let you know if I have to do either!?"
Mira bopped him on the head this time. "Hey, shhh! Don't let anyone outside this room hear you! And you're getting worked up over nothing. You both have surprisingly in-synch Aura. That means that you guys can talk to each other through your Aura if you wanna let the other know something."
We both blinked and looked at her in surprise…but I'm guessing for different reasons. I nearly forgot that was a thing actually! Sir Aaron's Lucario and the Riolu that Ash met in Sinnoh both had an Aura that perfectly matched his. Riolu especially allowed Ash to see images of things he's seen or convey things that might as well have been said, even though no words passed between them.
Kai stared at her with wide eyes. "Seriously? I didn't know we could do that. But Rey is the first person I ever had a synchronized Aura with."
"She's…not wrong though," I started, "to be honest…when I first went to the Pokemon world, that was exactly how I managed to find you when you were running from that Machoke. I could see through your Aura and followed after you."
Kai then took a moment to jump to his feet and gasp while pointing to me. "Oh, yeah!" Mira shushed him again and he gasped before calming down his voice. "So, that's how I was able to see your memories too. You know, about seeing Sasuke's fight with Yaroi. I had no idea Aura could be used for things like that and for talking with our minds."
"I think it's more like talking with Aura. Not…really our minds…right?" I asked looking at Mira who nodded. I then narrowed my eyes to look at her. "Wait for a second, what are you gonna be doing while we're in school?"
"Well, I won't be doing a lot of exploring this world this time. I'm going to head back home and help the search for Shadow Giratina, well, as much as we possibly can. He can suppress his own power to appear invisible even to sensing various energies. So, a lot of us are going to be using our eyes and various other methods." Mira explained which had us nodding in agreement.
Yeah, any help will do for sure. I mean, I hope that my meeting with this Shadow Giratina is put off as long as possible. Not saying that I doubt dad's powers and this necklace but I don't wanna test how well the damn thing works, and so early. Besides, all the moves that I currently have, when I'm not a Typhlosion, won't even touch the guy, him being part Ghost-type and all. And Normal and Fighting-type moves don't hit Ghost-types…which is actually a bad time to not have the move 'Odor Sleuth'.
"But what if I need you over here?" I asked.
I wasn't sure why I did, because it's not like there were currently a lot of normal humans that could really hurt me unless I let them. No, I'm not being full of myself. I'm just saying that when you've got the physical prowess and the speed to outfight any normal human, even without superpowers, then you feel oddly confident. And if I throw up a 'Protect', bullets from guns won't be able to get to me either. Even using 'Protect' as a shield in front of me instead of a dome surrounding my body is more than enough. But I could still get shot though if I'm not careful and I'm not trying to throw around powers in front of people either, for as long as I can help it. The kind of commotion THAT would throw the world into? I can't even imagine it.
Mira smiled at me. "Don't worry, Rey. I won't be gone for long periods of time. Maybe a day or two at most and then I'll be right back to check up on you." She patted Kai, who grumbled at being treated like a pup and then floated to me. She wrapped her little arms around my neck, hugging me, with me bringing up a single hand to hug back. "Have a good day at school, little bro."
"Thanks, big sis," I said simply before we broke the hug.
She then floated back and slashed her arm through the air, making a magenta rip appear in the air. She then flew through it before it closed. I stared at the area she was at for a little bit, feeling just a tad weird that she was gone. Kind of a weird thing to think because she hasn't really stayed here for all that long but she made herself home very quickly.
"So, is this school thing boring or…" Kai asked, jumping over to my table. He stretched his arms above his head getting the kinks out of them. I made sure to get fully dressed by throwing on my jacket and gloves.
"Kinda? I'm sure it'll be boring in the amount of time we'll be there until I leave it. Hell, you might get bored staying in the Premier Ball for so long since you haven't been inside for more than…I think 45 minutes."
I was, of course, thinking back to when I first told Jonta'e and Mohammed about Kai and his very abrupt need to go and take a piss right after. And that just made me think…does that happen often to Trainers? Like, if their Pokemon must go, they'll just pop out the balls and go? I used to think the balls also had some kinda…I guess a form of stasis function but Kai's pee-break the other day proved that was false. Or did it? I don't know the intricacies of Pokeballs and if they have waste-removing functions.
Kai shrugged while sighing. "I'm sure I can manage it. But you better get me some food though. I expect to be compensated for staying in that damn ball for so long."
I laughed a little bit and nodded. "I'll go make you lunch for later in the day. Now let's go already." I returned him to his ball and then, after making sure I had all my necessary things, bookbag, and clothes, I went to go fix him that lunch I said I would. Nothing too fancy, just a good sandwich with an apple. The sandwich, I made sure to put in a small translucent container so as to not get crushed while I put the apple in a pocket.
I then left out the back door, got in my car, backed out the driveway, and went to go pick up Jonta'e since he lived close to me. Driving up the hill, the guy happened to walk outside of his apartment building just as I pulled up. Convenient for me while I watched him climb in the car. I could instantly tell that he was beaming at me. Jonta'e usually didn't wear expressions like that often but how could he not? He lived an adventure yesterday that would last anyone a lifetime.
"Guess what I dreamed about last night." He opened and I knew immediately where this conversation was going to go. I gave a small snort and I began to pull away back to the street and started driving to Mohammed's place.
"I'm gonna guess it was about Pokemon."
"I wanna know everything, Steph!" He exclaimed, staring dead at me. The grin on his face couldn't be stopped as I glanced to check it but made sure to keep my eyes on the road. "I wanna know more about Pokemon! I went to another world yesterday! I was one and talked with them and understood them and… and everything! All I could do was just relive what that all felt like! Again, some of those female Pokemon were actually hitting on me and I still don't know how to feel about that part." He stared at his hand and made a fist. "The power running through me was… I felt like I could do anything. All that power in my hand before we punched that Drapion together…"
"Didn't think you'd remember the name of it." I said but he sat back in the seat.
"The moment I got home, all I did was just… research. I researched so much about Pokemon, especially the ones from yesterday. I even looked up everything I could find on Zoroark's but I haven't memorized it all. It's weird knowing that I was a bipedal canine with superpowers and I know what it feels like to be one. Even having all of that Super Saiyan 3 hair."
"You think that's weird? The back of my neck was on fire. Do you have any idea what it's like to just feel flames exhaust from your neck?"
"Did it hurt?"
"No? Not really. It was…you know how it's so natural to breathe, you don't really think about it? It was like that but the air superheated and also came from the flame sacs. I don't know if that makes any sense."
Honestly, how do you properly explain the sensation of new body functions that even you aren't sure how they work? Not like I was born a Typhlosion or anything like that. And considering the both of us have lived our lives as humans this whole time, it's not like there is a human-like experience I can match it too. Hell, just the sensation of being completely nude but covered in fur was sorta alien too. I knew I was nude but didn't have to worry about my balls swinging around? Did I have to be aroused for that to become a problem?
Though Jonta'e just looked at me and with a contemplative look on his face, he nodded.
"I guess that makes sense. I mean, I had digitigrade legs and you didn't. So, I don't think I can explain how that feels." He placed a hand on one of his knees and I was also coming up to Mohammed's house, in about a minute. "I mean, it was new and I spent a bit of that time with all of the other Pokemon just figuring out small things about being a Zoroark. But I think whatever your…big sister…?"
I nodded and he blinked and smirked.
"That's weird. Gonna have to get used to that now. Uh, but whatever she did, I figured she gave us innate knowledge on how to be Pokemon so we weren't making fools of ourselves trying to do simple stuff. That also explains how we could use their powers so effectively, even without experience. But now that I got a feel for that kind of power I-"
His sentence was cut once I pulled up to Mohammed's house, who was already standing there waiting. He power-walked to the car, as if I was going to drive off without him. He entered and buckled up with as much enthusiasm as he walked. His expression was more bubbly and he just radiated this hyper energy.
"What's good, bros!? Did anyone sleep last night!?"
"No," I said simply.
"Nope," Jonta'e replied, "was just telling' Steph about it."
Mohammed leaned back and gave a huge groan into his hands before looking at us. "Yooo, I had a dream about it! All I could think about when I got home was-"
"Being a Pokemon and you probably did research on everything about Electivire." I said, cutting him off, beginning to drive away from his house.
"And you were thinking about how different it was to have a crazy body and real super powers." Jonta'e said, looking back at him. Mohammed bit his lip a bit
"...You guys already talked about all that? Okay, well, so what?! The shit was awesome bro! WE went to ANOTHER WORLD! And we were POKEMON and fought other Pokemon and….fuck! EVERYTHING! Yesterday was something out of a Isekai anime or something!" He leaned as far as he could while seat-belted. "And it's because Steph here is…what!? Pokemon Jesus or something!?"
The three of us snorted out in laughter before I shook my head a bit. "Maybe on technicality. Son of the God of Pokemon, sure. But honestly, it's not like I can move mountains or create world-wide storms. Not counting what Mira did for us, the only powers I got are my enhanced body, some Normal and Fighting-type moves and the Aura stuff. Hell, even the few moves I have aren't super crazy either and I can't say I mastered 'em."
"They the same attacks we saw yesterday?" Mohammed asked, with me shrugging.
"Well, nothing with fire in it. That was the Typhlosion body and everything. But 'Mega Punch' is something I can do as a human but I think it was stronger when I was an actual Pokemon. Must be because of them being naturally capable or…something, I guess."
"What, and you say you aren't? The fact that you have real powers alone, Steph is still insane. Shit, we've talked about the kind of things we'd do with real powers all the time and its sorta came true, didn't it!? Just not in the kind of way we thought." Jonta'e said and he wasn't entirely wrong either. I've talked in length with them both about things of this nature for a few years if nothing else, than just for fun conversation. Ironic that my main choice for powers was Shapeshifting into either one creature or any creature. The whole 'being a Pokemon' thing sure didn't lose its novelty. I just can't help but remember every aspect of myself from yesterday in that form.
Besides the obvious things like the fur, ear placement and having a muzzle…the power is what I remember the most and I'm sure the others feel the exact same. Pokemon Power just coursed through my veins whenever I used a move. More-so than when I used my abilities as a human. The feel of my more powerful muscles moving with every step, jump, dodge, and punch I did felt like a breath of fresh air. The sensation of my fists on contact against another Pokemon in a true fight and nothing like when I beat up those douchebag people a while back. My senses were jacked in all fields compared to how they are now.
"Bro, when summer comes around, we're going to the Pokemon World every day! We've GOT too! Like, even if we don't become Pokemon again, we can get our own Pokemon too! And we can watch anime together!" Mohammed said, breaking me from my thoughts as school was in sight. Lord, I was actually dreading it, only because I already wanted the day to be over. Guess they weren't the only ones eager for more Pokemon things and I've technically been at this longer than them.
"Well, we'll see about that. It's not like I exactly planned to catch Kai when I went over my first time. It just happened, if you remember."
"Yeah, I know but still!"
"Ohh, then I'll wanna catch a Zoroark!" Jonta'e said. "I'm going to name him Sebastian."
"You already picked a name?" I snorted with a smile, pulling into the lot. Mohammed crossed his arms in thought.
"Dammit, right. I need to actually know what Pokemon I'd want first and I don't have a name for 'em. You know what, I'll think about it throughout the day." When I pulled into the parking lot, Mohammed's energy deflated and this wasn't me sensing his emotions. "Fuuuuck, I don't wanna have to go to class. This is gonna be a long day."
"Hey, dude, like you said, we'll have a lot of shit to do in the summer. And we have next to no work anyway since summer vacation is already so close." I turned off the car and climbed out. Least when it comes to school, I won't have to expect any surprises.
"I….you want me to what?" I asked, standing in the office of the school counselor. After arriving at school, it was the same-old, same-old as one could imagine. All of the students had to stay in the lunchroom for breakfast and then filed into the upper floors once the time for classes passed. So, I filed into my homeroom where Mohammed actually had this class with me. I would have class with Jonta'e later in the day when it was time for Science but that wouldn't be until hours for now.
Sadly, I could tell how much Mohammed wanted to speak with me during class but that was a bit difficult to do without getting caught by the teacher. Granted, we sat next to each other so writing separate messages in our notebooks wasn't impossible. He wanted to know what kind of gameplan we would have going forward since that wasn't explicitly talked about. I honestly didn't know what to do. I told him Mira went back to the Pokemon World to help the other Legendary and Mythical Pokemon look for the escaped Shadow Legendary so our world-hopping was put on hold.
I did want to stretch the limits of mine and Kai's training though and see what boundaries we could push. Eh, we'd figure that out later. Basically, school was going normal until the school counselor called me into her office. It wasn't about me though. Ms. Mossman is her name and I think I was one of her favorite students. Usual reasons why for students like me, so I'm not surprised. Pretty great grades, don't get into fights, support certain systems where possible. But I didn't have any grand-standing among the student body or anything. We just genuinely liked each other. She was a caucasian woman with short brown hair. Glasses that she wore over her brown eyes and a yellow shirt along her brown pants.
Her office was pretty small actually but it was part of the main office on this floor where my homeroom class was. The 3rd floor and each floor had its own mini office but the main one was on the 1st floor.
"We have someone who is going to be a new student. He'll be taking a few proxy classes until he's properly integrated after Summer Vacation. I am asking if you would be willing to have him shadow you around as you go about your day. Help familiarize himself with Shaw." She explained.
"I…I mean, I never did anything like that before. Is…like, is he really supposed to just follow me everywhere?" I questioned back, hiding my climbing nerves.
"I know this sounds strange. On such short notice, I don't have too many students I can rely on who have a schedule similar to his and even then, you're easy to get along with. I'm hoping he'll feel relaxed with you. It will only be for today, I swear."
"I'm not…saying I don't want to help…"
But I AM worried come lunch time. I am going to have to let Kai out of his Premier Ball so that he can get his lunch. On top of that, Jonta'e and Mohammad will want to talk about Pokemon related things. REAL Pokemon related things and having some random guy shadow me the whole time? I inhaled a bit when I felt my Premier Ball shudder slightly.
Shit, Kai must be picking up on my agitated Aura. I tried to send back calming vibes to him and I relaxed my breathing.
This has got to be some joke cliché, right? This isn't an anime! Just when my friends and I find ourselves in a scenario where we have to keep a world-changing secret, well, secret, this happens? I'm going to have to try and ditch him during lunch. Sadly, the rooftop isnt exactly within the bounds of school rules unlike.a Japanese one.
I barely noticed her eyes light up from my response and she smiled. "So, you will? Thank you, I mean it. He's actually sitting out in the office so you might not have noticed him."
"Wait, is he?" I asked.
"Yes, let's introduce you."
She got up from her desk and began to move. I was surprised. Did I just pass this guy and not care to notice him? The office on this floor wasn't that big. When we walked there I saw the guy.
He was sitting on the chair in the furthest corner and he looked uncomfortable but he gave a feel of…what was it? Indifference? Nervousness? He just felt like he was unsure of his surroundings even though his looks said otherwise. He was of caucasian complexion and brown fluffy hair that reached down to his middle of his ears.
Couldn't see the color of his eyes in detail but I'll guess brown for now. He had a bit of a round face but not baby faced and a slightly angular nose. I was just surprised that whatever I was expecting, this guy wasn't it. Just seems so out of place in this kind of school, that's all. He was in the school uniform with a short-sleeve cotton white shirt and black pants. He noticed us which gave Ms. Mossman the chance to approach, giving him the notice to stand.
"Stephan, this is B'Liahl, from Pennsylvania. B'Liahl, this is Stephan. He's going to be the one you'll be shadowing for today. His schedule will mirror yours in terms of the locations of your classes and he's one of our model students." He looked at me and had a half-shrug.
I inwardly groaned when she said that. Yes, it was true because I find it useless getting into trouble at school but it sounds kinda narcissistic. We looked at each other only for me to get some neutral vibes from him. Literally. I'm still not a master of controlling my aura so I unintentionally turned on my senses.
Like usual humans, there was a small flow of emotions coming from him. Apprehension, indifference, and an eagerness to get this over with. I'm not a master at sensing emotions through Aura but being around Kai and fighting a Machoke is pretty great experience. Also, his name is… what now? B'Liahl? I might've missed the proper pronunciation if my enhanced hearing didn't exist but I know I don't know how to spell that. I have to admit, it's pretty exotic-sounding in a weird way.
Being guided away from the office, I felt my heart beating a bit faster. So… what? I was supposed to just walk around and do my classes normally? Okay, then…

... I'm back...
Rest in pieces, bitches!
