Day 10 Prompt: Desperate for Attention
Takes place a day or two before Potential (7x12).
They'd been talking about him hunting the girls for the next drill when the soul's desperate cry for attention made him recoil against the pain inside.
"Shut the bloody hell up, the lot of ya!" He roared angrily.
The silence became deafening as Buffy stared at him, eyes wide with concern.
"Sorry."
"I didn't realise you could still hear them."
He snorted. "Signed myself up to a life sentence there, pet."
He meant it as a joke but she looked down sadly.
"Hey. It's worth it."
Being on the receiving end of her kindness. Her smiles.
It really fucking was.
So soon after getting it and being tortured by the First, I recon Spike's soul is still overwhelming to him at times, especially when he's planning on acting like his old self again (even if it's to play pretend) and the memories of all the times he killed like that start flooding back.
