"We need to decide how much we're going to tell SHIELD about Buffy, Slayers and the Watchers Council." Xander said, once his uncle and colleague had left to arrange transport for them to SHIELD headquarters.
"Xander - ." Giles started.
"They work with the Sorcerer Supreme, Giles. What are the odds that he hasn't at least heard of the Slayer and by extension, the Council? At the very least as a story or a legend. The Council has had control over Potentials and the Slayer for centuries and does little for them. Telling SHIELD could be a good thing or it could be exchanging one master for another, but the longer we're in contact with them, the more likely they're going to find out anyway. And we do need to stay in contact with them. They may be the only ones able to help Sunnydale. At the very least, they can help clean up the corruption. They can give us access to resources we don't currently have to fight the vampires. Actual training."
"They may very well simply clean out the vampires themselves, Xander." Jenny pointed out.
"Yes, they might. But right now SHIELD is stretched really thin. All that research I've been doing says they're working to keep on top of potential alien incursions, to keep anti mutant and mutant groups from killing each other and there's problems between the mutants and the Inhumans because the surviving mutants have gotten sick because of the Terrigenesis Mist. They may not have enough agents to spare to do much to deal with the vampires and we're already here, at least for another year until graduation and we decide if we're staying or leaving Sunnydale. If we decide to leave, I want to make sure things are as safe as they can be."
"And let's not forget." Amy pointed out. "The people of Sunnydale are also becoming aware of the outside world. They're already tense because they're starting to notice the reality of Sunnydale. Once the impact of the outside world hits them, which can't help but be sped up by the presence of SHIELD agents in the town investigating the corruption, we're going to be dealing with our own problems with fear here in Sunnydale. The world is a scary place, but Sunnydale is even scarier. We may need SHIELD to help keep all that under control as well."
"We also have to consider the possibility that Dr. Strange may know how to shut down the Hellmouth entirely." Giles said thoughtfully. "The means by which they've been shut down in the past usually involved overwhelming them with energy, but that has a deleterious effect on the surrounding environment."
"Huh?" Said Buffy.
Xander started laughing.
"What's so funny?" Buffy asked.
"That's fancy British talk for blowing stuff up and destroying everything around it. Probably fun, as long as no gets hurt."
"What if they do decide to do that?" Cordelia asked seriously. "Once it fully sinks into people what's going on in Sunnydale, they may just decide to leave. Get as far from the Hellmouth as possible. Which means destroying it becomes a definite possibility."
"Given the size it." Giles said. "The destruction would likely extend out for miles, it could destroy the entire town and surrounding countryside. The people would have to be gone for that to even be a feasible solution."
"I think we should talk to Dr. Strange about the Watchers Council and Slayers first." Buffy said. "Given who and what he is, he may be able to impress on SHIELD just why there's always been just one and maybe he can help us figure out why as well. Granted there's another one right now that we haven't met, but the Council hasn't done anything to try to make more Slayers, as far as we know and there has to be a good reason for that. They claim they're about fighting evil and Slayers fight evil, so it follows that more Slayers would be a good idea, but as far as we know, they've done nothing to make more. They must have investigated the possibility at some point and decided it's not a good idea. It doesn't make sense that they wouldn't have, especially since Xander revived me and there's another one out there."
"They may have." Giles agreed. "I would guess it was before the advent of the superheroes and mutants became known to the world since such groups help with fighting evil and is probably known only to the High Council itself, but you're right, it is something they should have and likely did investigate at some point. It would explain why they haven't activated more, especially in light of a second known Slayer. Dr. Strange could do his own evaluation and determine what that is. Perhaps the power that makes a Slayer is finite and could weaken or even be destroyed outright if too many Slayers are activated at one time. It's certainly worth knowing about it. Very well, I will speak to Dr. Strange myself and explain about the Council and Slayers and how you differ from mutants. Amy, Oz and Jenny, whether you tell them about yourself and your abilities, is your choice."
"Magic is known and they work with the Sorcerer Supreme, I'm sure what I can do won't come as a surprise." Amy said dryly. "And telling Dr. Strange about Willow might be a good idea too. He's far more powerful than all of us combined, you don't get named Earth's protector against mystical attacks if you're not. He may be able to help reverse her transformation. We were able to reverse the one on Harmony because I cast that spell. We don't know anything about the one who transformed Willow or how they did it, so reversing it isn't possible, at least for us."
"Yes, let's do that." Oz spoke for the first time. "I liked her smile."
"And if reversing the transformation does happen, a shovel speech will also have to happen." Xander announced and got doped slapped by more than Cordelia.
"Join the twenty first century, Dweeb!" Cordelia ordered. "Willow doesn't need big brother trying to scare off her dates."
"Oh, I'm not trying to him scare off, just making sure he understands what happens if he hurts her. If you had a brother he'd be saying the same thing to me. Keep her happy or I find a place to bury your body. You don't have a brother, so you threatened me yourself. I consider Willow my sister, so that means I get to say it."
"Acceptable terms." Oz agreed and had the girls all groaning.
