"We've come to an agreement." Xander told the others. "I'm not going to be charged with anything. Besides the fact that there isn't any proof that I did anything, just my word, Director Fury believes the Mayor was ultimately responsible for the condition of Sunnydale."

"That's good news, indeed." Giles exclaimed, relieved. He couldn't help but worry about any of them.

"He'd better have decided that or I would have had a word or two to say to him." Cordelia said darkly. Xander grinned at her.

"I'm sure you would, oh Queen C."

"What else did they decide, Xander?" Buffy asked.

"They're convinced at least the highest officials in Sunnydale are corrupt, they're going to investigate and find the proof needed for convictions. In the meantime, I was right that they're spread too thin to do anything about the vampires themselves, but they are willing to provide our group with training and resources to deal with them ourselves. He also said, that aside from Oz, we're too young to recruit currently, but we can consider this a trial period. If it works out, once we turn eighteen, we may be offered positions with SHIELD."

"A job?" Buffy exclaimed. "Actually getting paid to be a Slayer? Not that they'd call it that. Agent Buffy Summers, has a nice ring to it, don't you think?"

"Would it just be vampires we'd deal with?" Amy asked. "Or other things?"

"It depends on what we're best suited for, I guess." Xander answered. "I like the idea of continuing to make my vamp sensors. Maybe eventually selling them to cities to line roads and mount in public buildings, like I figured out how to do for Joyce's gallery, as well as selling them to people to protect their personal property. They can go a long way toward keeping people safe."

"We could only put magical protections around the warehouses we've cleaned out so far." Amy said. "Since adding your vamp sensors would constitute property damage. Magical protections can be overcome and we know some vampires are willing to use Magic. But if you could get whole cities, as well as private business owners to buy and install them, it would cut down on the number of places vampires could make a nest in. It's a goal that could take years to accomplish, but is certainly worthwhile."

"It's also something I'd prefer you be involved in." Cordelia said. "If you were single like your Uncle, than being a agent would be just fine, but I want you to come home every night. Being a business owner means a much better chance of that happening. You can still fight vampires, just not directly by selling your sensors. In the long run, those sensors may save more lives anyway. Even if I am being selfish in my reasons for wanting you out of direct fighting."

"Wow, that's really honest of you, Cordelia." Buffy commented. "Confessing to being selfish in why you don't want Xander involved."

"It's his decision, I'm just making my preferences known. And there's a reason why you guys call me Tact Girl, remember? I consider tact just not being honest."

"And honesty mean's a lot to her." Xander pointed out. "In this instance, our goals coincide. Sure being an agent might be a great adventure and if I was single I'd probably at least consider it. But I'm not single and I'm committed to Cordy and what we're building between us. And my vamp sensors really could pay off in the long run in making people safer and I like that goal. As Uncle Rory put it, we've been fighting a holding action here, just barely treading water. With SHIELD's help we can get ahead of the game and I can feel like I'm not abandoning anyone if I then concentrate on producing and selling the sensors."

"What kind of training and resources would SHIELD give us anyway?" Buffy asked.

"Remember the dhampir in New York I mentioned that hunts vampires? SHIELD will provide us with some of his ultraviolet weapons, free of charge or at least we won't be charged for them. They'll pay, Blade, that's his nickname, to make enough for us to use. As well as the protective clothing that he's known to use. Which is basically a heavy duty, form fitting tactical vest with places to hold the weapons and training in how to use the weapons."

"Wow, talk about leaping into the twenty first century!" Buffy exclaimed. "With equipment like that I may survive to old age. Giles, we need to find the other Slayer, what's her name and see about getting her equipped too."

"Her name is Kendra Young and she lives in Jamaica with her Watcher." Giles answered. "And unfortunately, the Watchers Council wouldn't allow it. But that may change before long as Dr. Strange is launching his own investigation of both them and the Slayers. We both came up with several disturbing theories to explain both the reason for the existence of the Slayer in general and the Watchers Council as well. His investigation will hopefully yield answers and possibly a change in how Slayers are treated."

"That would be great." Buffy agreed. "But it might come too late for this Kendra, she's already past a year and you told me that's the average that Slayers live given how little support they actually have. I survived longer because I had outside support, first Pike, then Xander and Willow. And I still died and without Xander would have stayed dead. Kendra is on borrowed time."

"Unfortunately, I believe you are correct in that assertion." Giles agreed somberly. "Unlike you, she has no one except her Watcher looking out for her. Dr. Strange may not find answers before it's too late for her."
