At the hospital, Barry and Eddie sat with the doctor on call, Dr. Refry. Eddie was still in her uniform, but got permission from Renzulli to take a few hours off from her shift.
"Well, Barry," Dr. Refry said, "the X-rays came back good. No broken ribs or anything, just a couple of bad bruises."
"Thank God," Eddie sighed.
Barry squeezed her hand. Eddie squeezed it back.
"So," she said, looking at the doctor, "he's okay to go home?"
"Absolutely!" Dr. Refry said. "Do you want anything for the pain?"
"No, thanks," Barry said. "I'll just take some over-the-counter acetaminophen."
"You sure?" Dr. Refry asked. "It's going to hurt a lot."
"If I really need something," Barry said, "I'll see my primary physician."
"Fair enough," Dr. Refry said. "I just don't want you to be in more pain than you have to be."
"Appreciate it, Doc!" Barry said.
"I'll go start the discharge papers, then," he said and walked out of the room to give the couple some privacy.
"So," Barry asked, "you still want to call me Muscles after some guy half my size flipped my wheelchair over?"
Eddie smiled and placed a comforting hand on his chest, "You'll always be Muscles to me," she said sweetly. She leaned in and kissed Barry tenderly. She pulled away asking, "You are okay, aren't you?"
"I'm okay," he said, looking at Eddie. "I just have one thing I really need."
"What's that?" Eddie asked.
Barry grinned. "Another kiss."
"Well… If you insist!" She leaned forward and kissed him tenderly, her lips dancing with his.
"Oh, for crying out loud!" a familiar voice whined.
Eddie and Barry broke away.
Kara smiled. "You guys should really get a room… Oh wait! You already got one!"
Eddie shot Kara an unamused look. Kara laughed it off.
"Seriously," Kara said, walking into the room and looking at Barry, "how are you feeling?"
"I'm okay," Barry said. "I'm more embarrassed than anything that a string bean like Travis could've flipped me."
"Yeah, I was shocked, too," Kara concurred. "We did a tox screen on him and he had drugs in his system."
Barry shook his head. "That explains so much."
Eddie nodded, scowling. "Good thing I rode with you to the ER," she said, looking at Barry, "Otherwise, I might've slugged him."
Barry chuckled. He then looked at Kara.
"Thanks for having my back,' he said. "I owe you big time."
Kara waved off his compliment. "You don't owe me anything," she said graciously. "Just doing my job."
Barry smiled and nodded.
"Well, I'll get out of your guys' hair," Kara said. She looked at Eddie as she asked, "Is it okay if I give your boyfriend a hug?"
"Of course!" Eddie said.
Kara bent down and gently hugged Barry. "You take care, alright? And try to stay out of trouble."
"Yes, ma'am," Barry said with a wink.
"Oh! Almost forgot! In speaking of trouble…" Kara reached into her pocket and pulled out a card. "This is my Courtesy Card. If you ever get into a bind, present this and have them call me. I know this goes without saying because you know better, but I'm required to say that I'm giving this to you because I trust you and you're a responsible person who won't use this as a get-out-of-jail-free card," echoing Barry's words about Eddie.
Barry took it gratefully. "Thank you," he said with humility. "I know you don't hand these out willy-nilly, so I appreciate it."
Kara nodded. "Well, I'll let you two get back to making out."
Eddie rolled her eyes while Barry snickered.
"Later!" And with that, Kara turned and left.
"You sure you're okay?" Eddie asked, genuinely concerned.
"Yeah," Barry said. "But… uh… About being at the jewelry store…"
Eddie immediately held her hands up. "Say no more! I won't ask and you won't tell, got it?"
She knew why Barry was there. Barry knew that she knew. They both knew that the other person knew.
"Gotcha," Barry said with a knowing nod.
Eddie nodded right back at him. "Whatever it is… I'm sure it'll be beautiful." She leaned in to give him a kiss on the cheek. "Are you good if I take off?"
"Yes," Barry said. "Go, get out of here!"
"Bossy, are we?" Eddie said flirtatiously.
"What?" Barry playfully tossed out. "You thought you were the only one?"
Eddie gave her boyfriend an unimpressed look. "Hardy har har," she said.
"Hey," Barry said, extending his arm out for a side hug, "come here."
Eddie leaned in for the hug as Barry kissed her tenderly.
"I love you," he said.
"I love you, too."
