Laughter echoed through the semi empty museum, Kara and Donatello poking fun at some of the displays. She covered her mouth to calm herself down while glancing at the passerby who was looking at them weirdly but kept their mouth closed. Once she had calmed down they moved on to another piece, Donnie going full tour guide. Somewhat listening her eyes trailed over to him, looking over his get up; a plain, purple hoodie, pants, and shoes. "For someone who doesn't wear clothes often he looks good." She blinked when he was suddenly close to her, smile as wide as his eyes, "Isn't that exciting?!" She gave him a nervous smile with a light chuckle, "Yeah, it is."
Donnie blinked, staying close to her for a couple seconds, now getting a good look at her and noticing dark lines under her eye. "Hey..you doing ok?" He stood up straight, his brows lifting in worry.
"Hmm? Oh, yeah, just have trouble falling asleep. Didn't help I was excited for today." She took a step back wearing an unzipped oversized white hoodie, sleeveless aqua turtleneck, black shorts, black leggings, and white shoes, playing with the matching aqua hair clip on her left side while averting her eyes hoping that would keep him from questioning her more. She glanced up to see his pupils had shrunk and he had a goofy smile on his face, making her internally sigh in relief but smile at his reaction. "Shall we continue?" She moved to his side and wrapped her arm around his.
"We, shall, madame." He grinned wide and walked onward with her by his side.
Kara took pictures here and there of the displays and them two together as they made their way to the garden exhibit. An audible gasp escaped her lips to see all the plants, insects and flowers, some not even native to this part of the country. While she bent down to read the plaque on a certain flower she lifted her head to see a blue monarch butterfly fly past her. Smiling wide, she reached her hand out to touch it when she heard a sudden shout to her side.
"Stop, Lanny, you're not suppose to be flying!" She turned her head in time to have something smack her in the face and flutter it's wings. She froze in place, a loud noise coming from her throat at the assault to her face.
"Woah! That moth is acting crazy." Donnie went to pull it away only to get smacked on the hand, "Don't touch her! She's very sensitive right now! She just got through surgery!" A 5'0 woman with wavy blonde hair, wide, hazel eyes with glasses came into view pointing at Donnie while he rubbed at his hand before turning to Kara and gently cupping the insect in her hand. Kara waited a couple seconds before slowly opening her eyes then taking a deep breath, having been holding it in fear of it going in to her mouth if she were to open it. "What hit me in face?" She began to wipe her face while looking down to see a moth with lime green wings, the outer part purple, that had a single spot on each wing, one wing seeming to have a bandage like substance on it with a white, fuzzy body. "Aw, it's kinda cute."
"This fine specimen, and patient," The lady eyes the moth who rubs at it's head with one of it's legs oblivious to her concerns, before looking back at them, "is a Luna Moth, whom I have named Lanny. She was transported here for surgery after being attacked by one of her many predators; Bats."
"Aw, how come here? Is this a special museum?" Kara asked while bending down to look it over.
"Not exactly but it was sent here because I specialize in plants and animals so I get sent many exotic creatures to take care of til they either go back to their original museum or be released. I'm Evelyn, by the way, but my coworkers call me Leafe."
"Leafe? I like it. My name is Kara and this is Donatello." He gave her a small bow.
"Donatello? As in the Sculptor of the Renaissance period?"
"Ah, I see you're a person of knowledge." This impressed him and made him feel a sense of pride from his name.
"Psh, well, we are in MUSEUM, knowledge is just an arm's reach away. Plus, the art museum is next door, so, yeah." Leafe gently placed Lanny on her shoulder and crossed her arms with pride.
"Well, since you're here, would you mind being our guide for this area?" Kara asked with a smile, for some reason she wanting her to stay and hang with them.
Leafe's cheeks reddened and she averted her gaze to the ground, her demeanor becoming shy suddenly. "Oh, really? You want me to show you around? Well..I...don't usually hang out with other people; I tend to stick to plants and insects...you sure? People tend to think that creepy."
Kara shrugged, now grinning at her, "To be fair, I don't have many friends either, and I don't think you're creepy one bit."
Leafe's eyes widened in surprise, her cheeks darkening but a small smile came to her face. "R-Really? Then yeah! We can start over here!" She pointed to a large tree and walked towards it with a skip in her step; this making Kara giggle.
In the Hidden City, Baron Draxum stood in his repaired labs; a pod filled with his ooze. His henchmen gargoyles Huginn and Muninn flew to his shoulders and planted themselves there.
"Whatcha thinking about, boss?" Huginn asked while scratching his head.
"Were you able to discover the location of our test subject?" Baron kept his eyes on the pod.
"You mean that-"
"Yes, Muninn, her. Do you know where she is?"
"You're not going to like this, boss; she was hanging with one of those turtles."
"Yeah, the purple one." Muninn nodded in agreement.
Baron stepped towards his pod placing his hand on the glass before it clenched, a smirk crossing his face while his shoulders shook, the two gargoyle's flying off them, til the lab echoed with his laughter. "This is too perfect! She could help us in convincing those...turtles to see the real picture; to realize why they were created." He pulled away his clenched fist, staring at it. "Go find her. Now." His eyes followed as they flew off before going back to the pod.
The sun was setting when Kara stepped out of the convenience store carrying a small box. She took a step to the side to get out of anyone's way while opening the box and emptied the contents of two blue pills into her hand. She went to pop them in her mouth but stopped and sighed before pocketing them in her jacket pocket before making her way back home. She ran her hand through her hair her mind wandering to the sleepless nights she's been having for several weeks; each night having nightmares of fighting mutants, robots, even her own mother. On occasion she'd have a goodnight's rest but it would soon change to either a nightmare or darkness. She ran her fingertip under her left eye and grumbled about needing to use make up to cover the bags til something hit her on the head causing her to fall over with a startled yell. The passerbyers glanced at her weirdly but continued on their day, ignoring her.
She sat up while rubbing her head and looked down to see what hit her only to blink to see the chubby gargoyle on the ground, curled in a ball then looked into the alleyway where he came from to see the skinny, big headed gargoyle smiling at her and waving. She picked herself up, grabbing at the chubby one and threw him right back at his partner and walked towards them as they fell to the ground with a squeak. "Hello, you two, it's been awhile." She crossed her arms watching them pick themselves up and fly to her level, seeming to have quickly recovered.
"Hey, you remember us!" Muninn smiled wide, holding his arms out in victory.
"Uh, I remember you but not your names." She rubbed back of her head awkwardly.
"..Now that's just hurtful." Huginn pouted, flying around her.
"I'm not good with names, ok?" She followed his movements with a raised brow. "Anyways, what's going on?"
"Get this; our boss wants to see you..ready for this..to be experimented on! Isn't that exciting?" Muginn flew next to his brother and smiled wide in joy, Huggin on the other hand face palmed.
"Wait, what? How is that a good thing?" She practically yelled unaware of the portal appearing behind her til she felt a hand clasp over her mouth, her eyes widening in panic.
"You'll find out soon enough." She heard before she passed out.
She woke up to muffled talking and groggily opened her eyes to see her vision was blurry. Immediately remembering what the gargoyles said she began to panic and slam her arms against the glass pod, screaming for help only for her lungs to be filled with the water surrounding her, the feeling of drowning causing her to go into even more of a panic. Hearing a loud, electronic start up noise the pod she was in lit up and the next thing she felt: pain.
Pain shot through her body feeling it morph, unaware of a blue substance floating out of her pocket, her screams changing to agony feeling something rip out of her sides and back and break through the glass, her body falling onto the ground with water and shattered glass around her. Coughing up the water and gasping for air her eyes flashed open, scanning the area frantically before rushing out the first door she saw.
"Everyone ok?" Donnie and Mikey hovered behind the bus stop where his two older brothers sat, looking upset so to speak.
"We're fine but the oozuitos got away." Raph crossed his arms and closed his eyes. "Another failed mission."
"Not a total failure, we got this to go get em now." Donnie rubbed the side of his latest invention but blinked when he realized, "Oh, I-I am, however, out of webs so uhh partial failure? Yaaaay.." He hunched his shoulders, giving him a weak smile with an even weaker victory shout, Leo shooting to his feet.
"Raph what was that crazy power up? You saved my life!"
"I don't know. I just knew if I didn't save your life I'd never heard the end of it from you." Raph answered unamused.
"And on a side note; Draxum created us! He told me just before he threw me off the roof so I don't think he's very attached." Leo crossed his arms, still irked about being thrown off the roof.
"Wait, does that mean we're Teenage-"
"Mutant."
"Ninja."
"Sheepmen?" Raph looked confused, his brothers leaving him behind at how he ruined the mood.
Raph caught up with them a few seconds later all of them pondering the night's events when they suddenly heard a scream for help. Looking at each other they jumped to a roof and discovered a new mutant having hold of a human, and not just any human, Mrs. Rachel Sharper.
"Gasp! She's here herself!" Donnie's eyes sparkled being able to meet a celebrity.
"I wonder if I could have her get me Sara's autograph." Mikey smiled with hope.
"FIRST, let's take care of this new mutant and show them whose boss." Raph punched his fists together thinking this would lift the team spirit.
Leo lifted the sword from his shoulder with a grin and dropped down. "Halt, evil villain! Let that person go."
Kara flew clumsily through the skies, the brightness of the lights causing her to stumble in the air, covering her eyes. A million thoughts were going through her mind that she didn't notice the building til her body made contact with it's wall and fell into a pile of garbage. Groaning in pain she lifted her hand to her face and moved it over her head, her hair following her hand and out of her face in the process constantly blinking her eyes to get them readjusted to the dark alley only to gag and cover her mouth when the foul stench of the garbage hit her nostrils like a dump truck.
When her eyesight finally cleared she clenched her ears hearing the constant sounds of the city, almost as if someone had recorded the sounds and had them pressed right to her ears. She blinked when she realized she could feel the ground and her head at the same time and slowly lowering her arms and her gaze til she saw a set of two thin, four fingered arms. She jumped to her feet, letting out a gasp, now getting a good look at herself. "Wha..what happ-" Tears pricked the corners of her eyes at the barrage of her heightened senses til she froze hearing a familiar voice and slowly lifted her head to the mouth of the alley the sound of her mom's voice reaching her ears. She moved to the mouth and poked her head around the corner to see her mom on the phone looking annoyed, "Yes, she wasn't there. She hasn't been there for the last couple days and this is my last day in the city. I'll just have to-" When she reached the alley she let out a gasp when a thin arm covered her mouth, wrapped around her shoulders and sides with her arms stuck to them, and was pulled into the alley. She began to scream into the hand and thrash around but the arms weren't letting go. She managed to get her mouth free and let out a quick, "HELP!" before her mouth was covered again, now tighter.
"Calm down, I need you to listen to me! I'm not gonna hurt you." Kara tried to keep her voice composed but when her mother turned to see who was assaulting her her eyes widened in fear and began to thrash harder, screaming louder. "Wait, please, list-"
"Halt, evil villain! Let that person go!"
Both of them turned to see the turtles but Kara ignored them, trying to focus on her mother and to get her to calm down but during the distraction and the emotion of her mother looking at her in fear her arm's had loosened around her and her mother was able to free herself.
Kara's eyes widened watching her mother run from her and reached out, tears releasing from their hold, "Please, wait, MOM!"
A bright, orange, ball appeared in her vision and had touched her hand before feeling a string wrap around her arm and pull her away from her mother and on to the ground, hard.
"Wait, did she just say mom?" Leo asked looking at his brothers curiously.
"Mom? But she only has two.." Donnie's eyes widened and soon everyone was on the same page looking at the now mutated Kara as she began to pick herself up.
"Oh, Kara, I'm so so-" Mikey took a step forward to apologize til his weapon burst into flames surprising everyone til the sounds of Kara's scream brought them back and Mikey immediately brought his weapon back in. "Kara! Are you ok?!" All of them moved towards her as she picked herself up, her black wings falling over her body and covering herself. She lifted her head, staring up at them in fear while backing away from them. "Stop! Get away from me!" She gripped her injured arm unaware that her wings were starting to twitch.
"I didn't mean to! I'm sorry!" Mikey stared down at her worried with how frightened she looked and took a step back.
Donnie stepped forward slowly reaching his hand out to her thinking he could calm her down. "Kara, relax, we're not going to hurt you."
Seeing him get closer to her she squeezed her eyes shut, "Get away from me!" Her wings flared up and flapped releasing a blue, powdery substance from her wings that flew towards them.
Donnie took a step back, Raph now being the closest turtle and breathed in the substance only to lose conscious and fall over, passed out, and snoring.
Kara flinched wondering what just happened only to shake her head and use this time to clumsily fly away.
"Kara, wait! You guys wake Raph up! I'm going to follow her." Donnie brought out his hover drones and flew after her.
Kara flew in no particular direction, tears streaming down her face and holding her burning arm. She wanted to get away. Wanted the noises to stop. Wanted to know..what she did to deserve this. Her breath caught in her throat when she could hear water and flew to where it was coming from, landing in the park and in front of a water fountain. She grimaced knowing these things weren't taken care of properly but..she had no choice. Hesitating at first she took a step forward and finally got a good look at herself; her hair was the same but now there were feather like antennas sticking out from her forehead, her eyes were large but the colors were still the same, her skin was paler, almost white with a hint of discoloration of her normal skin tone, she had a black, fuzzy poof around her neck and her arms and legs were now black, looking as if she were wearing gloves. She shook her head and forced herself to lower her arm into the water and shuddered with a whimper. "I..thought we were friends..why would they attack me...I thought I could trust them.." She fell to her knees crying silently until she heard a noise behind her and quickly turned around to see Baron in front of her. "You...you did this to me, didn't you?!" She stood to her feet, glaring at him.
"Yes, I did."
"Why?! What did I do to you to have this be done to me?!" She screamed, fresh tears running down her face.
"You've lived amongst the humans. You've seen how they're destroying their world through pollution, decimating forest life. They forced us Yokai to live in hiding underground but soon that will change. You were different. You helped me despite the possible dangers you were in and I feel with your help we can take over the surface and turn every human into Yokai to live in peace. We can change the world. Will you help me?" He extended his hand to her.
Kara rubbed her second pair of arms nervously, her eyes trailing to the side in thought. What he said made sense and was upfront with her but..would she be able to force people to change like she was. She lowered her head in thought. "Where would I go..I don't have anyone to rely on..not anymore." She bit her lip and slowly reached her hand to his when Donnie landed to their side, his staff out.
"You. Get away from her!" He moved to a battle stance his eyes on Draxum. "Kara, get away from him, he's a bad guy; he's the one who turned you into this!"
"I know."
"Huh? What?"
"He told me..he was upfront with me and..I'm going with him."
Donnie's eyes widened, lowering his staff in shock. "No, don't, come with us, we can help you."
"You attacked me!" She screamed, trembling in fear and anger. "I was scared and alone..and you attacked me without hesitation, without trying to see if I was dangerous..how can I trust you guys after being hurt like that?!"
Donnie gasped, taking a step back. He opened his mouth to say something but when nothing came out he lowered his head, glaring at the ground. When he looked up though Draxum was behind her and placed a hand on her shoulder while smirking down at him. He gritted his teeth while gripping his staff and charged at him. With his staff raised he went to strike but flinched when Kara brought up her arms to cover her face, showing off her burnt arm which made him hesitate and giving Draxum the time to bring out a vine and smack him away from them.
"Come, Kara, I will show you that now you have nothing to fear." Draxum opened a portal and turned to leave.
Kara reached her hand out towards Donatello in worry but clenched her hand and turned around, entering the portal.
"Kara...wait.." Donnie reached out to her leaving form til she was gone and dropped his hand and head in defeat.
Once Kara's feet had planted on the ground back in his lab and saw the pool of ooze from where she had been mutated she could take no more and passed out.
