Chapter 7: Journey to Duelist Kingdom part 2
"It was nothing." Weevil said as he was putting on the humble act.
"Yeah. I went easy on him that time. I'd totally crush him in a rematch." Rex said, trying to act tough in order to get Yuki to fall for him.
'Desperate much? Ugh, his shameless attempts to get my attention are gonna make me hurl...' Yuki thought in disgust as she watched Rex justify what she said. He is indeed a creepy little fucker, and now, a shameless creepy little fucker.
"Yea? Well, this time, Yuki and I are gonna take the tournament. Right Yuki?" Joey asked as he pulled himself free from the hold the two goons on him. This lets him come stand next to Yuki who was looking at him.
"To tell you the truth, winning the last championship didn't feel like much of an achievement. I guess I can't really call myself the champion until I beat the duelist who beat Kaiba. But I'm sure I'll end up battling you in the big tournament, Yuki. Frankly, I look forward to it." Weevil said whilst adjusting his glasses so they're higher on his nose. Though Yuki honestly didn't like the tone of voice that the cyan haired boy had just then.
"Thanks, I uh, I look forward to it too." Yuki said, but she didn't like how Mai and Weevil were acting towards her. They were acting like she was the only person worth beating.
"I'm looking forward to some dino-demolition." Rex said as he cast a sideways glance towards Yuki and Joey. He was mostly looking at Yuki though as he was wondering how he could make her his.
"Let me tell you a little secret. It's something none of the other players know about the games yet." Weevil said as he took a step closer to Yuki in order to talk to her.
"Do I look like I want to cheat my way through this?" Yuki asked with a frown as she was more irritable than usual because of her sea sickness.
"Don't worry. The other duelists will find out soon enough, but there are new rules on the island that require more strategy." Weevil said with a smirk as strategy is his forte in this game. He has yet to be beaten in a game of strategy, and he plans to keep it that way.
"Ah, rules are for wimps. In dueling, you either smash your opponent or get smashed yourself. It's one or the other." Rex said as he was smirking as well since that tactic has won every duel for him. Well, almost every duel, he still can't believe he was beaten by a bug.
"Yea and look where that got you, beaten by a bug." Yuki mumbled to herself as she rolled her eyes at Rex and his unwarranted smugness.
"Strength is good, but you also need to combine them with other types of cards." Joey said with a smile and a raised clenched fist, causing Yuki to smile slightly too.
"Who asked you? Stay out of my way or I'll stomp you like everyone else. See ya around toots." Rex said with a sideways glance to Yuki before he walks away.
"Drop dead you little guttersnipe. I'd rather be stuck in a room with Kaiba..." Yuki grumbled as she flipped the retreating Rex the middle finger. She really hated Rex enough to want to be alone with Seto Kaiba of all people.
"We'll see who stomps who when we get to the island." Joey said as an anime tick mark appears on the side of his head out of annoyance.
"Ignore him. Let's scope out the competition, and you should do the same in the girls section later, Yuki." Weevil said in hopes of defusing Joey's annoyance for the time being. He was still pretending to be humble and nice as to get on Yuki's good side, said girl only nodded at what he said.
"What do you mean?" Joey asked not knowing that scoping out the competition meant one thing. Which was to look around to see who is the weakest and the strongest.
"Check out those chumps." Weevil said as he pointed behind Yuki and Joey, causing them to turn around. He was pointing at all the guys who were huddled in small groups as they talked and traded cards. "They're already trading over there. Players here are swapping cards and strengthening their decks, getting ready for the big tournament. It's also a good chance to get a feel for your opponent's cards." Weevil said as he watched the boys as they traded cards with each other.
'He basically explained what normally happens, though I could see this as a way for Weevil to get some insight on his opponent and their strategies. Or he could just be a big fat cheater, after all he mention knowing about the "new rules" before we're even supposed to hear about them.' Yuki thought with a frown as she tried to pass off hugging her stomach as crossing her arms.
"Whoa, strong cards. Hey, want to trade? How 'bout you? Anybody? Help me out here." Joey said as he was hopping around from group to group, hoping to coerce someone into trading with him.
"Looks like Joey's gonna try and trade..." Yuki said as she watched her goofball of a friend finally got someone to consider trading with him.
"If you've come all this way and you're still trying to improve your deck, you've got to be pretty desperate. I'll catch you on the flip side." Weevil said as he stayed to watch Joey for a moment before he turned and left.
On the other side of the boat near the girls section Rex was heading towards his private room, still unable to wrap his brain around Yuki's reaction to him. He is the runner up of the last tournament, he had babes dropping down at his feet just begging for him to give them attention. Yet this one girl, practically a nobody aside from her defeating Seto Kaiba which in his opinion was probably dumb luck, won't even give him the time of day. It hurt his brain to think about it, if she wasn't impressed with the fact that he was almost the Regional champion then he would find another way to impress her. Rex Raptor doesn't give up without a fight and he'd be damned if he didn't give getting Yuki Muto's attention another go, and it may work if she sees him duel. Yea, seeing his dino cards completely crush his opponent and get him a one way ticket to the finals will surely get her to fall head over heals in love with him. Both him and his superior dueling skills to be exact in this current situation.
Then not only will he be on his way to winning the Duelist Kingdom tournament but he also will have a cute girl on his arm that will be fawning over every single thing he does. Rex was soon broken out of his thoughts by arguing coming from the girl section. For a moment he thought it was that loud mouth blond from before complaining on behalf of Yuki this time. He was only partially right though as the person arguing with whoever they were arguing with, one of the guys in suits most likely, was a loud mouth and was a blond. He stopped walking when he was just about to go upstairs since this could be entertaining. Though he was pleasantly surprised when he saw that the chick doing the arguing was smoking hot. That gave the sleazy dino duelist an idea, if he couldn't have Yuki's attention for the time being. Then he'd get this tall vixens attention for a portion of the boat ride to Duelist Kingdom.
"This is truly, truly outrageous. You expect a lady like me to stay in this dump without even a shower?" Mai said as she backed the man out of the room whilst ranting in his face.
"Rules are rules ma'am. There's nothing I can do." The man said as he tried to defuse the situation before it gets worse.
"Call your superior. Get him on the phone right now." Mai said as she wasn't going to take that as an answer.
"Keep acting up, and they'll throw you off the boat." Rex said, making his presence known as he walks over.
"Who do you think you are?" Mai asked as she glanced at Rex, wondering who this little cretin was.
"A champion with a luxury room." Rex said simply with a smirk and a blush on his face.
"Really? Could I see it?" Mai asked as she closed her eyes and covered her mouth with one hand. She had a plan, if they won't give her a room then she'd take one.
"You bet. Come check it out." Rex said as his smirk turned to a grin at her agreeing to come to the room.
Back outside in the cold night air Tea, Tristan, and Yugi were still hiding from the guys in suits who were doing rounds on the deck every few hours to check for stragglers. So far the three stowaways have done well with keeping themselves hidden. However the fact that it was cold and one of them, a certain brunette female who thought a skirt and no jacket was a good idea, was freezing her ass off. Sitting still wasn't helping with that fact either, though her companions were fine because they thought ahead and wore pants and jackets. Yugi also brought a bag full of snacks too in case they started to get hungry. Since none of the guys in suits were on patrol Tea, at the risk of blowing their cover, stood up slowly as she started to shuffle in place.
She kept an eye out for anyone who maybe walking towards their hiding spot as she did this. Tea only did this because she had to get some warmth back into her frigged body before she catches a cold or the flu. Or even worse she could catch pneumonia and possibly die! Though she didn't understand why they couldn't just go inside and pretend that they are duelists. After all its not like the goons will remember if they checked if their duelists or not. It'd be so easy for them to just go inside and mingle among the duelists and if any one asked questions they could just lie and hopefully no one would be the wiser. Or it could backfire horribly but at this rate Tea didn't care because she was cold. Anything sounded better than sitting around outside in the cold for hours upon hours with no end in sight.
"Hey, Tea, stay down or we're busted." Tristan said as he peaked out from behind his hiding spot to look at said girl.
"Yea, do you wanna get us thrown overboard?" Yugi asked as he peaked out from his hiding space as well.
"It's freezing out here. I can't sit still." Tea said as she looked at Yugi and Tristan over her shoulder.
"Heh heh. In another few hours, the sun will rise. Ha!" Tristan said as he stood up in order to point at the horizon before sitting back down.
"That's not funny, Tristan." Tea said as she turned towards said male, gaining an anime tick mark on her head. Though suddenly a nearby door starts to open as someone was coming out.
"Get down!" Tristan said as he ducked back down behind his hiding spot.
"Don't have to tell me twice!" Yugi said as he followed Tristan's lead followed by Tea.
"Look. Isn't that Bakura?" Tea asked as she saw that the person who walked out was Ryou Bakura. He was a kid from school who was a British exchange student that had come to Domino last year. Said boy had long white hair, pale skin, brown eyes, and was in a cream long sleeve sweater, light blue pants, and brown shoes.
"Bakura? You mean Bakura from school?" Tristan asked as he wondered if they were talking about the same boy.
"What do you think he's doing here?" Tea asked as she moved to be a bit closer to Tristan, said boy peeks out of his hiding spot to look at her.
"Uh, I guess he's in the tournament." Tristan said with a smile as he glanced off to the side.
"It doesn't matter if he is. My sister is the best duelist in the history of duelists. She'll beat everybody, including that Bakura guy." Yugi said confidently as he crossed his arms causing Tea and Tristan to sweat drop slightly.
At the same time in a private room on the boat Rex was sitting on the couch with his legs crossed and his right arm resting on the back of the couch. He was sitting there smugly as he watched Mai take a look around the room that was his for the ride to Duelist Kingdom, thinking she might be one of his fans now. Said girl of course was no such thing as she was just waiting for the opportune moment to put her plan into action so she can get this room all to herself. After all a lady like herself shouldn't be forced to bunk with the riffraff newbie duelists who probably only got halfway through the last tournament due to dumb luck. If anyone deserved to have a luxury room it was her, after all Mai lives for living in the laps of luxury. It was why she always entered dueling tournaments no matter how small or big they are. Rex, wanting to have the beautiful blonde in his room for as long as possible, let her have her fill of seeing the room. This was before he decided it was time to start talking and also time to put his charming personality to work.
"So, what do you think of my cool digs?" Rex asked with a sly smirk, knowing she already thought the room was great.
"It's beautiful. You must be quite a strong card player." Mai said, finally putting her plan into action.
"I am." Rex said as he closed his eyes, he had no sense of humility whatsoever.
"Hmm." Mai hummed to herself as a smirk came to her cherry red lips. She knew it, he was a shameless egotistical twerp. "Heh heh. Really? I love Duel Monsters. How 'bout we play a game?" Mai asked as she walked closer to Rex, setting her duffel bag down on the floor in the process.
"Ha! Who do you think you're talking to? There's no way you could beat me." Rex said as he was still over confident in his ability to win.
"Please? Let me try." Mai said as she sat down on the couch across from the one Rex was on.
"You'd never win." Rex said, insisting that she'd lose against him hands down.
"Tell you what. If you win, I'll give you a kiss." Mai said, giving a bargain that she knew Rex couldn't refuse.
"Huh?" Rex asked as he gained a new blush on his face before he started grinning like a fool.
Elsewhere on the deck of the boat Yuki found a table to sit at, hoping it would help with her sea sickness but it didn't do much at all. She took out the golden sarcophagus from her bag and set it on the table. It was what she kept her extra deck in, plus she was sentimental of how only a year ago the same sarcophagus held the unfinished Millennium Puzzle. Therefore the heterochromic eyed girl couldn't help but want to keep using it. After all it was such a beautiful yet strange box, with its hieroglyphics that depict that whoever solves the puzzle will be granted one wish. Its eye that matches the one on the puzzle seeming to be blindly staring at whoever holds the sarcophagus.
Yuki had just finished placing a certain set of cards, the Exodia cards, inside the sarcophagus when Joey walked over with some cards in his hands as he was smiling as well. The tall blond had just successfully traded some of his other cards for ones that he hoped were better. He couldn't wait to show them to his small friend as soon as he had gotten them. So, a few minutes prior to this, Joey had pretty much ran around looking for Yuki until he spotted her sitting at one of the tables. Upon seeing her he had immediately rushed over there to show her the cards. He was extremely proud of himself and he knew, or at least hoped, that his best friend would be proud of him too for not getting screwed over in a card trade.
"Yuki, I got some good card trading in." Joey said as he looked at the cards before turning them so Yuki could see them.
"Really, lemme see 'em." Yuki said as she looked at the cards when they were shown to her. Despite how sick she felt she couldn't help but be proud of Joey. "Salamandra, and A Kunai with Chain, Baby Dragon, and Shield and Sword? Awesome, those cards will help give you a real strong deck." Yuki said, giving her friend the praise he was hoping to get from her.
"All right! So now, I'm ready to win every duel I play." Joey said, more than glad that Yuki thought that he did good when it came to these cards. That also gave him quite the confidence boost that he so desperately needed.
"Don't get ahead of yourself Joey, because I think your going to find that it's a bit harder than that. Here, put this card in your deck." Yuki said as she opened the sarcophagus and pulled out a card. She then held it out for Joey to take and put in his deck since she knew it would help. "It can be real helpful in a tight spot." Yuki said as the card was The Time Wizard and it was a big cartoon like clock with eyes, arms, legs, and a cape, top hat, and wand/scepter.
"Thanks. I'll take it. I can't get over how you're always helping me out." Joey said as he accepted the card and looked at it with a smile.
"Ahh, we meet again." Weevil said as he walked up from behind Yuki, causing her to turn around.
"Weevil..." Yuki said in greeting, though something about his grin was just creeping her out.
Back with Rex and Mai said girl had gotten him to agree to playing one game of Duel Monsters with her but with a twist, one that was going to get her this room. She honestly wasn't all that surprised that he had agreed to the game, after all he was a man with needs and said needs were making him do stupid shit. For instance, she knew the he will dumbly wagered his room in return for a kiss if he wins because he was so sure that he was going to win without a second thought. His stupidity was honestly laughable and Mai was going to enjoy beating him and taking this room right out from underneath his nose. Not only that but there's going to be nothing he can do about it.
If he does complain to any of the guys in suits afterwards they won't be able to do anything either. This is because Rex wagered his rights to the room in a "fair" game of Duel Monsters. Ergo he'd look like a liar if he tried to forcibly take back the room after losing it "fair and square" in a duel against a girl. One that he thought couldn't defeat him in a game of Duel Monsters. Plus Rex would be the laughing stock of the tournament that word got out that he lost a duel before the tournament had even begun. Mai knew that would damage his pride greatly if word got out that he lost a duel that wasn't for a tournament.
"Ok, then cut the cards." Mai said as she placed her deck in the middle of the coffee table.
"Playing with your deck, huh?" Rex asked as he cut the cards just like she told him to. It didn't matter to him if they were playing with her deck or his. 'Heh heh heh. This'll be a snap.' Rex thought as he focused on cutting the cards.
'Hmm.' Mai thought as she watched Rex cut her cards with the same smirk on his face.
"What if you win?" Rex asked as he picked up the now cut deck as he looks at Mai.
"If I win, you agree to clear out of the room for the rest of the trip, ok?" Mai asked as she crossed her arms, knowing Rex was walking right into her trap.
"Clear out? I'm not gonna lose. You've got a deal." Rex said with a confident smirk, placing the deck in the middle of the table as Mai smirks.
"Hmm." Mai hummed slightly before closing her eyes, now for the killing move. Rex was going to be in for a real surprise and will regret accepting this duel. "The first card is Shadow of Eyes." Mai said as she knew that the card was indeed Shadow of Eyes.
"How'd you do that?" Rex asked as he drew the card and looked at it, seeing that it was Shadow of Eyes.
"The second card is Harpy's Lady, then Elegant Egotist, followed by Cyber Shield." Mai said, her eyes still closed as Rex placed those exact cards on the table.
"Oh, no. She's right again." Rex said with wide eyes as he lost his confident smirk, wondering how she knew what cards he was going to draw from her deck.
"Heh. This is my own card technique. I always know what cards I have and can pick anyone I like at any time. So, go ahead and deal 'em, Rex." Mai said as she opened her eyes, seeing how Rex was grinning nervously now.
"Oh, I think I'm in trouble." Rex said, realizing that he had made a big mistake.
Outside at the sitting area Yuki was honestly skeptical as she looked at Weevil. Giving advice was one thing but being in the same place as her was kind of stalker-ish to her. Plus the way he was grinning at her made her already twisting and turning gut twist and turn even more. He was just giving off a vibe that screamed he had bad intentions. It was honestly the same vibe she got from Seto after he left the game shop after being denied what he wanted. This was that same day that she was there with her friends looking at her grandpa's Blue Eyes White Dragon. Sure she could just be jumping to conclusions about the vibe he was giving off. Right now though she had no time to give anyone other than her friends the benefit of the doubt.
Yuki had to be cautious about this because for all she knew Pegasus could have made it so people were out to get her. He would have possibly done this in order to prevent her from winning and saving her grandpa. All of these conspiracy theories were starting to give Yuki a headache as she was being a bit too paranoid for her liking. She blames that and her sudden paranoia on Pegasus since its all his fault. None of this would have happened if he hadn't talked for most of the duel and if he hadn't used that magic mumbo jumbo to psych her out. Then she would have won the duel before the timer ran out and her grandpa would he safe and sound at home awaiting her return. Instead of that he'll be waking up in a hospital wonder what happened.
"Ahh, the evening winds sure feel nice." Weevil said as he stood by the railing of the deck. He was trying to act nonchalant as to not seem suspicious in any way. "So, did you trade for any good cards, Yuki?" Weevil asked, turning towards Yuki since she was the target of his question.
"Nope, I'd like to stick with the cards I have for, sentimental purposes." Yuki said as she frowned, her hand on the golden sarcophagus in a protective way.
"I figured as much." Weevil said as he glanced at the golden sarcophagus. He had been spying on Yuki so he knew all of her extra cards were in it. "You used the Exodia cards in your duel with Kaiba, right? Those are the strongest cards of them all." Weevil said with his usual creepy grin as he had a plan forming in his head.
"Yes, the strongest, and very rare." Yuki said as she pulled the golden sarcophagus closer to herself. She didn't like how he kept staring at it like he knew the Exodia cards were in it.
"Could I possibly see those legendary cards?" Weevil asked though his intentions weren't pure. He didn't want to look at the cards he wanted to get rid of them.
"Uh I dunno Weevil. I'd rather not risk losing them, no offense." Yuki said as she could tell he did not have pure intentions towards her cards.
'Dammit, fine. If she won't show me the cards, then I'll get rid of the whole box!' Weevil thought as he gritted his teeth at the fact that she wouldn't show them to him. Here he thought she was just a naive little girl, but maybe he misjudged her. "I understand. Though, I must say, that is an interesting box you have there..." Weevil said as he walked closer as if to take a closer look.
"It's not a box, it is called a sarcophagus." Yuki said since she wanted Weevil to be politically correct about what currently houses her extra deck.
"I see. How, interesting." Weevil said as he suddenly snatched the sarcophagus away from Yuki.
"Hey!" Yuki said as she tried to get the sarcophagus back as Weevil walks to the deck railing.
"That's not cool man, give it back." Joey said as he tried to help his friend get her sarcophagus back.
"You know for a long time, I've been trying to come up with some kind of strategy to finally beat Exodia, but I couldn't come up with anything..." Weevil said as he glanced down at the golden sarcophagus. If he wants to win, he has to do what other's aren't willing to do. "Until just this moment." Weevil said as he got even closer to the railing.
"Weevil, don't do any crazy..." Yuki said though there was no reasoning with the bug duelist.
"Say goodbye to Exodia!" Weevil said as he tossed the golden sarcophagus over the side of the boat.
"No!" Yuki shouted as she ran over and jumped over the side of the boat. Though she had forgotten one thing as she hit the water and sank deeper after the sinking sarcophagus. She doesn't know how to swim, she's been to scared to learn how to do it, and in the heat of the moment she forgot that and her fear of bodies of water. 'I have to get to the sarcophagus before it sinks too deep!' Yuki thought as she was making herself sink faster to get to the sarcophagus.
"Yuki!" Joey shouted as he jumped in after his sinking friend as Weevil ran off. He had realized too late that Yuki didn't know how to swim as he swam after her. He needed to get her above water before she ran out of oxygen and possibly drowns.
'Just... a little... deeper...' Yuki thought as she was indeed running out of air. As her vision blurred her finger's touched the cold surface of the sarcophagus as she smiled. Pulling it close she realized that it had opened up and two Exodia cards had come out. As she shut the box and held it to her chest Yuki tried to grab the two cards, only to have what little breath she had knocked out of her by the current.
'Yuki, I should've stopped her.' Joey thought as he swam deeper, looking around for the small girl. He was so glad when he saw her but was concerned as she had run out of air. Wrapping an arm around her and the sarcophagus he began to swim towards the surface. 'At least this time, I can help one person I care about...' Joey thought as they got close to the surface, his thoughts drifting towards Serenity as he swam faster. Finally breaking the surface he gasped for breath as he held Yuki close, wondering how he was going to get them back on the boat.
"Joey!" Tea yelled as her, Tristan, and Yugi had come to see what was going on.
"Big sister!" Yugi shouted in worry as he could just barely manage to see that his sister seems to be unconscious.
"Are you okay?" Tristan yelled as he looked at the blond who was helping the bearer of the Millennium Puzzle stay afloat. This caused Joey to look up just as a rope ladder wad dropped down for him.
"Grab ahold!" Tea shouted as they planed to pull their waterlogged friends up once Joey grabs the ladder.
"Hurry!" Tristan yelled as they had to do this quickly before their friends get too far away from the boat.
"Tea, Tristan, Yugi!" Joey shouted with a smile, glad to see all three of them right now. Doing as he was told he swam over and took hold of the ladder, making sure not to let go of Yuki or the sarcophagus.
Whilst this was happening Mai had just finished schooling Rex in a game of Duel Monsters. The dino duelist had been completely psyched out by the blond female's so called ability to know which cards are which without even looking at them. Being psyched out had made him unable to focus which in turn had cost him the duel as it was over before he could even save himself. Though now he was paying for it because as the wager stated, he loses his room for the rest of the trip to Duelist Kingdom. Since Mai had gotten what she wanted she had no more use for Rex as she shoved him out the door. This causes his deck to get scattered all over the place as he falls to the ground out of shock as he looks up at the blond girl.
"Get out, loser! And thanks for the room, Rex." Mai said as she dropped his duffel bag onto the floor. Then she shuts the door in his face before he has any time for form a coherent sentence.
Back on deck Tea and Tristan had barely managed to pull a sopping wet Joey and Yuki back on deck. Said girl was hacking and coughing up water as she held onto her golden sarcophagus. Yugi was next to his sister, trying to help her by giving her a hug because she was shaking both from the cough and from the fear from almost drowning. However her attention wasn't really all that much on her near death experience, her was on the ornate sarcophagus that she had dived into the ocean to retrieve. She had it back, her extra deck was safe and sound, but she lost two of her Exodia cards that her grandpa gave her. Now not only will Yuki never be able to summon Exodia ever again but she'll never be able to look her grandpa in the eye. How on earth was she supposed to tell him that she lost two of the rarest cards that he had spent all of his life collecting?
"That was close. I'm sure glad you three showed up-" Joey said as he looked at his friends and Yugi with a smile.
"I lost them..." Yuki said, effectively cutting off what Joey was saying as they all looked at her.
"Big sis?" Yugi asked in concern, wondering what Yuki was talking about.
"I lost two pieces of Exodia. Grandpa trusted me to have them, and I lost them..." Yuki said as she was now crying slightly, she felt like she betrayed her grandpas trust.
"It's okay, Yuki." Joey said since he wanted his friend to know that its not her fault.
"It's not okay. I feel like I betrayed his trust in me." Yuki said, still feeling like she had just done the most awful thing in the world.
"Yuki..." Tea murmured sadly, she hated it whenever her friends are sad.
"I get it Yuki, you feel like you failed him. I feel the same with my little sister, Serenity." Joey said suddenly which caused Yuki to look up at him.
"Really?" Tea asked since none of them knew that Joey had a sister.
"You have a sister?" Yuki asked, sniffling slightly as she scrubbed at the tears and sea water on her face.
"Our parents divorced years ago when we were kids. She lives far away with my mother. My sister's had really bad eyes since she was born. Eventually, she'll go blind." Joey said as he looked at his friends, they deserved to know what was going on.
"Shit, that's awful Joey." Yuki said as the fact that Serenity may never be able to see again really hit her in the feels.
"Thanks, Yuki. She sent me a message." Joey said as he closed his eyes, remembering the video so vividly.
Flashback beginning
"I was hoping to see you one last time." Serenity said with tears in her eyes as she closed them.
The memory soon faded into that of a young Serenity crying on the back of a cab ad she is taken away from her brother. Then that memory fades to one where both Wheeler siblings are sitting on swings, laughing and smiling happily at each other. Back when they didn't have to worry about their parents divorcing and then possibly separating the two of them at such a young age.
Flashback ending
"The doctors told her the time has come. Soon, her eyes will be impossible to repair, even with surgery. But there are specialists who could preform an operation now before it's too late. They could save her eyesight. But there's now way I can pay for the operation. I have to win for her. Winning in the Duelist Kingdom and getting the prize money is the only was I can help Serenity." Joey said as he looked at Yuki with tears welling up in his eyes. Though he quickly rubbed those away before they began to fall. "So, if I can do that, then you can save your grandpa. With or without Exodia." Joey said as he was determined to help his sister now more than every before. Question is, is Yuki just as determined with or without a complete set of Exodia cards in her deck?
'I don't know, Exodia was the only way I was able to beat Seto...' Yuki thought as she glanced down at the puddle of sea water that she was kneeling in. Though she then shook her head at her own thoughts because they sounded so pessimistic. 'No, that's ridiculous! I didn't need Exodia to win duels before and I certainly don't need him now.' Yuki thought with newly added fire to her determination as she nodded at Joey's statement.
Yuki soon went in search of her bag, Yugi trailing along behind his sister since he knew better than anyone that she get's sea sick so he wanted to help. Thankfully her bag was still by the table she had been sitting at and no one had messed with it which she was also grateful for as she sat down in the chair again. She then went through the process of draining out the sea water that had gotten into the golden sarcophagus and dried off all of her wet cards. She was now desperately hoping they won't get crinkled when they dry. When she got to the Exodia cards she noticed that his left arm and leg were the only ones that she had lost. Nevertheless that still didn't take away from the fact that she lost them. Even if it was because of Weevil she still felt like it was her fault. If she had just kept a better hold on the sarcophagus or had been able to get it back then none of this would have happened.
Yugi knew his sister still felt like it was her fault when it really wasn't, and it would take her a little while to realize that. He'd help her anyway he can because he is here to protect her. Though that is usually the older siblings job but he didn't care, his sister is always getting herself into trouble now a days. If he can't at least try to protect her from that then who will? As Yuki finished drying her cards and drying out the inside of the golden sarcophagus the sun began to rise. It was morning and none of them got any sleep whatsoever. Whilst the sun continues to rise the heterochromic eyed girl packs everything away in her bag and slings it over her shoulder. Then she leads her little brother to the bow of the boat where everyone was waiting for them. Coming over to them Yuki picked Yugi up and squeezed her way past Joey and Tristan. The boat inches closer and closer to it's destination as the group of five watch the horizon.
"I know we both'll do our best, Joey- you for Serenity, and me for Grandpa." Yuki said with a small smile, but Joey stayed quiet and serious which is so unlike him.
"That's right. We'll do this together." Tea said, whole heartedly agreeing with Yuki as she looked at said girl.
"Look! The island!" Tristan said, drawing everyone's attention to the island that was getting bigger as the boat gets closer to it.
"It's the Duelist Kingdom, we're almost there guys." Yuki asked as she held her brother close as said boy yawns slightly as she looked at the island. The one where she will have to fight tooth and nail to get into the finals. She should really scold her brother, and kill Tristan and Tea, but that would have to wait. 'I'm coming Grandpa, just hold on until I get there, please.' Yuki thought as the island was so close yet so far away from her right now.
