Hi everyone. I hope you are all well. If you're here, it means you at least liked the first chapter. And I hope it will be the same with this one. And, well, all of them naturally. Thanks for reading this story.

So without further ado, read and enjoy.

The pups were doing their work around the mayor's garden when their pups tag flashed followed by Ryder's voice.

"Paw Patrol. To the Lookout".

"Ryder needs us", they all responded before running back toward their vehicles.

Chase finished setting up the cones and police tape coming from his truck between the hedgerows with Rubble's help before they followed the others. Ryder was already driving his ATV back to their headquarters. The pups jumped onto their driver seats and followed him. They arrived at the Lookout and parked their vehicles in their usual places, jumped off them and turned back into pup houses with two barks. They ran to the elevator inside the tower. Once inside, Chase realized something.

"Hey Marshall. No accident this time?"

"Guess not, but you can create one if you miss them."

The pups laughed as the elevator doors closed and it went up. They stopped at the change room behind the symbol of the Paw Patrol where they aligned themselves in the right order. Robotic arms came out of the walls and quickly equipped them. Once done, the symbol flashed and the elevator went up again to the observatory room. They were in their usual uniforms except for Chase who was in his spy outfit. They jumped and aligned themselves once again this time in front of Ryder.

"Paw Patrol, ready for action, Ryder sir," Chase said.

"Thanks for coming so quickly pups," Ryder said as a screen was coming down next to him. It showed what he said next with animations. "As you know, two sets of identical burned zones of unknown origin were found this morning. You already saw them and where they were, so no need for descriptions. We have to find out what caused them, since they could have been caused by something dangerous. Our only clue came from mayor Goodway who talked about a strange sound and a brief strong light. For this mission I'll need…Spy Chase."

Ryder pressed the German Shepherd symbol on his Pup Pad and it appeared on the screen alongside animations (again). Same for the following pups.

"I'll need you to continue examining the burned zones. Maybe your spy equipment will help you discover something. Start with the City Hall."

"Chase is on the case."

"Rocky. You and I are going to analyze the samples collected in my workshop."

"Green means go".

"And Skye. You're going to fly over Adventure Bay and see if there are other marks like those. You'll begin with the town."

"(Bark). Let's take to the sky," the Cockapoo said before doing a backflip.

"Alright. Paw Patrol is on a roll."

Ryder ran to his pole and slided on it to reach the lower floor while Chase, Rocky and Skye did the same with the slide that led them directly back toward the ground base. The parking lots spinned around the tower, lining up the corresponding pup house for each pup under the end of the toboggan. They turned them back into vehicles except Rocky who ran back into the tower to meet Ryder in his workshop. Chase and Skye left for the City Hall. Once there, the pilot gained altitude with her helicopter and activated her binocular goggles.

"(Bark) Goggles. Ryder. It's Skye. I'm in position and begin my research."

"Same for me," Chase said as he parked his spy truck and jumped off it.

"Roger that. Rocky and I too. Since I can't be with you, we'll stay in radio contact. Good luck," Ryder responded from his workshop with Rocky at his side and the samples in a box in his hands.

"So, with what do we start," Rocky asked.

Ryder's workshop was a rectangular room. On the left side, there was a table where the boy made designs and built the pups equipment. Pup packs and uniforms. Several incomplete or unused models of those were stocked in a large cupboard on the adjacent wall with glass doors alongside blueprints, spare parts and various pieces. On the right side, a bigger L-shaped table with different kinds of machines whose purpose is scientific studies. The last time Ryder used it, it was to study a fragment of the meteor that crashed in Adventure bay and temporarily gave the pups super powers. He hoped to understand how its energy worked and if it was possible to harness it. So far, he has had no success, but he wasn't giving up.

"With a basic analysis," Ryder responded, walking toward said table and putting the boxe on it. "If it isn't enough, then we'll go deeper."

Meanwhile, Skye flew above the whole town. There wasn't any other burned zone. "Ryder, it's Skye again. The town is clear. Do you want me to move to the countryside?"

"Yes. Good job. Continue like that."

"Will do." Skye changed her trajectory and flew in the direction of the mountains.

Back in town, Chase was examining the flowers again.

"Ruff. Thermal goggles."

A visor fell in front of his eyes, giving him a thermal vision. Sadly, they didn't reveal anything as he looked around so he deactivated them. Looking more closely, the position of the trampled tulips and the fallen petals seemed to indicate the culprit had walked away toward the City Hall. He jumped above the police tape and walked to the building door. There, he found small pieces of scorched earth going right. Probably coming from the garden. He walked to the edge of the building and found trampled grass. The traces seemed human, maybe the culprit. He followed it across the small grass field present on each side of the building. It led him to the edge of the terrain where the sidewalk replaced grass, making him lose the trail. He didn't like the idea of failing, but he knew he had to report it.

"Ryder. It's Chase. I found a trail, but I lost it outside of the City Hall terrain. And I couldn't find anything else."

"Uhm…Try to talk to Mr. Porter. He lives on the top floor of his restaurant next to the City hall. Maybe he heard or saw something too."

"Good idea. I'm going to do it right now."

Chase ran back toward his truck with a determined expression on his face. When he arrived next to the garden, he noticed something that made him stop. There was a pup inside looking at the burned flowers as if he was searching for something. Chase could only see his left side, but he was sure he had never seen him before. He was medium sized with droopy ears, a long and thin muzzle, a medium sized tail, golden-brown fur and cream colored paws. He was wearing an orange uniform with a pupack of the same color.

"Hey you," Chase said walking toward him.

His voice made the pup jump in fright as he turned around. It allowed Chase to see his…her face. Frightened at first, the pup became shocked as she saw him.

"You…You are…", she said, almost shaking.

"This is a restricted area. It's clearly indicated you can't stand here" Chase continued unfazed, though he did wonder if she was alright. Something then clicked in his mind. "What are you doing here anyway? Do you know anything about what happened?"

"Me? I…euh…", the unknown pup responded before suddenly running off in the opposite direction.

"What the…Hey. Come back," Chase called as he ran after her.

He jumped above the police tape as she did the same on the other side. She was fast, Chase had to admit it. But he was confident he was faster. He always was the athletic type and he was bigger than her. Though his spy equipment was slowing him down a bit. He pursued her as she ran across the small grass field on the left of City Hall. She arrived at the hedgerow and jumped above it, probably trying to get out of his sight. "Not bad. But you won't lose me that easily," Chase thought. He accelerated and jumped above the hedgerow with a bit more difficulty. Looking around, he saw her on his left still running away. They were now on a sidewalk with a road on their right and a crossroad not far in front of them. Adventure Bay was a small town, but traffic was still high at some hours like right now. The pups also had to dodge a few people and a bike who sent them confused glances. The unknown pup had reached the crossroad and stopped since cars were currently passing. Seeing that Chase was still on her tail, she decided to cross anyway, heading toward the upper-right corner of the crossroad.

"Don't do th…WATCH OUT," Chase yelled as he saw her cross afraid she'll get hit.

Thankfully, she had managed to find an opening between the cars. One came faster than anticipated, but stopped in time and honked. Chase stopped at the edge of the road, relieved. That pup was crazy, but she had managed to get ahead of him. He had no choice.

"Ruff. Zipline."

The upper compartment of his pup pack opened and a device came out of it, shooting a zipline across the crossroad high enough to avoid the cars. He quickly crossed it and without any risk, earning once again surprised looks from nearby citizens. Once on the other side, he dropped back on the ground. The pup, a bit farther on the sidewalk, looked surprised to see him so close.

"In the name of the law. Stop," he ordered.

Not surprisingly at all, she didn't obey and ran away again. Chase groaned, annoyed, as he continued to pursue her. They ran on the sidewalk until the pup turned right into an alley between the post-office and another small building.

"Ah. I got you this time," Chase said and he entered the alley which was a dead end with nothing but large bins.

Strangely the pup didn't stop or slow down. She jumped on top of one bin and jumped high up.

"Wouf. Magnetic hook," she said.

Her puck pack opened. A strange kind of circular hook shot out of it. The rope connecting it to the pup pack looked more like a yellow beam of electricity or energy or something like that. The hook stuck itself to the edge of the roof and pulled her up. Before hitting the wall, she did a flip to land directly on the roof.

"Whoa," Chase said surprised as he stopped in front of the bin. "What was that?"

He then shook his head. Questions will come later. First, he had to catch her.

"Ruff. Zipline."

Chase's pup pack opened. The device came out again and shot a line to the same place the pup's hook had stuck. The line pulled Chase toward the roof, except he miscalculated and his lower body hit the wall.

"Ouf," was the only word that escaped his mouth as the air was expelled from his lungs.

Despite the pain, he climbed on the roof.

"That was painful."

He shook himself and looked around, expecting to see the runaway pup only to find out he was alone on the roof.

"Wait. Where did she go?"

He ran to each side of the square building. No sign of her. He sniffed the roof, hoping to catch her scent. He did and it reminded him of the scent he found in the burned zone in the forest. The scent led him to the edge of the building where she probably had jumped, so he came down from the building using his wall climbers. He arrived in another alley, but couldn't pick up the scent because of the smell of garbage coming from the bins. It was so strong it almost made him throw up. He lost the trail, again.

"Ugh. Way to go Chase. You failed the case. Twice."

With a sigh, he left the alley only to come across Mr. Porter putting boxes in his truck. A smile appeared on his face as hope filled him.

"Hey Mr. Porter," he called as he walked toward him.

"Oh. Hello Chase. How are you," the man answered as he turned around and wiped his hand on his doily.

"I'm fine, thank you. I was wondering. Have you seen a pup in an orange uniform with an orange pup pack coming out of this alley?"

"Euh…I don't think so, but I was busy inside my truck, so I wasn't paying attention."

"Oh. And would you happen to have heard or seen something unusual last night by any chance? Coming from the City Hall?". There was still hope in his voice.

"Eh. No. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper."

Chase's ears and eyes went down as he heard this. His only leads eluded him. Now, he had no idea and nothing to bring back to Ryder.

"I'm sorry I can't help you," Mr. Porter apologized seeing the defeated expression on the pup's face.

"It's not your fault. Have a nice day Mr. Porter."

Chase walked back toward his truck, afraid that this time, Ryder will be disappointed by his double fail. He didn't see a pup looking at him from under Mr. Porter truck. Once Chase was far enough, the pup discreetly left her hiding place and ran into another alley, one less smelly, where she sat and took the time to breathe. She was safe for now. But the pup that chased her. Even without the pictures she saw, she would have recognized him. Just like she had recognized Adventure Bay when she found the town. While a part of her wanted to ask him and the others for help, she couldn't bring herself to do so. Her fears were becoming true and she wasn't sure what to do. One thing was certain however. Now, she will have to avoid the Paw Patrol. At this moment, she would give anything to hear one of her father's advice. For him and her mother to be here. But it wasn't possible. "Come on Race," she thought. "You can do it alone. You must do it alone. Arg, has self-motivation ever worked?"

Meanwhile, Skye was currently flying above the countryside. Nothing around her but small roads, fields and trees. Farmer Al's farm wasn't far on her left. She was about to pay him a visit when she spotted something with her goggles. Squinting her eyes, she increased their precision. What she saw made her gasp. Another burned zone at the bottom of a slope. She quickly hovered her helicopter above it. It was the same size as the other two and nothing beside grass was burned. In the middle of the zone, there was a strange object. A tablet. Skye landed her vehicle on the outside of the burned zone and walked to it. Made in stone, the tablet was rectangular, fifteen inches by thirty. On the upper-middle, there was a small cylinder coming out. Lines were also traced going from the bottom of the cylinder to the upper and bottom corners. Unknown writing that looked like numbers were disposed in a semi-circular pattern from the upper-left corner to the upper-right one.

"What is that?" she said, intrigued.

She sniffed it, but didn't smell anything strange. So she briefly touched it to see if it would do anything. No reaction. It seemed to be a simple tablet.

"Ryder. It's Skye again. I found a third burned zone in the fields west of farmer Al's farm. This one has a tablet in the middle. I bet you want me to bring it back to the Lookout."

"A tablet? And I thought Chase's report was weird. This day just doesn't make sense. You're right though, I need you to bring it back, but be careful. It could be dangerous."

"No problem. See you soon," Skye said as she ended the call. "Come on you, my copter is big enough for the two of us," she then said to the tablet.

She took it in her mouth but it was too big for her to lift it, so she dragged it instead. With some effort, she managed to put it inside the cockpit.

"(Giggles). Nailed it."

She went around her vehicle, jumped inside and took off. As she flew away, someone arrived at the top of the slope. A man, around the twenties. He has brown hair, green eyes, and was wearing a red-black uniform composed of pants and a T-Shirt. He also had two long black rectangular devices, each attached and covering one of his arms. The unknown person looked at the helicopter then at the burned zone. He ran to it hoping to find what he was looking for, but it was obviously too late. Just like when he went to the other burned zone in the forest. He swore and looked back at the sky, but the helicopter was already out of sight. At least, he had recognised it. It was the same one he saw with the Paw Patrol when he was in town. He saw them examining the flower where he had landed when he had arrived here.

"Great. Just great. Now I have to take back the artifact from those pups too before the worst happens."

So, we see a bit more of the mysterious pup introduced in the first chapter. And it seems she is not alone, but that was told in the story resume. What is that tablet Skye found? Why did that pup ran away from Chase? Well, I'm not gonna spoil anything, so if you want answers, stay tuned for futur chapters. Since it's summer, one should come out every week if everything goes fine.

So, until next time. Take care.
