Gadd had invited him over because he'd heard that there were a number of ghosts and boo's haunting a building, Luigi felt uncertain given what Peach had told him and Mario about Dream Weddings, she was worried about how he didn't know who he'd been married to and since he and Mario were from a different world they had only a vague understanding that dreams could influence the waking world thanks to their experiences with the Pi'illo.

Entering the house, he could hear movement and giggling, yup there were ghosts for sure. Creeping deeper he kept catching moving shadows in the corners of his eyes, but this wasn't like them Usually they tried to jump scare him, but something was causing them to hold back…

Tripping over a loose floorboard he flinched trying to catch himself before faceplanting and the ring he'd been given slipped out from under his shirt, smacking him gently in the face. The chain keeping it around his neck saved it from rolling away from him.

There was so little ghost activity that he was a bigger goof than normal! What was with these ghosts anyway? Usually, they got him quickly with a jump scare or two, or half a dozen… He spotted a ghost while he was kneeling, but it took one look at him and fled.

"I'm stumped my boy; I've never seen them react to anyone like this."

The only thing he could think of while Elvin complained and just genuinely was confused was that something about his ring spooked the spooks. Despite this, the ring was made of stone and didn't seem to have any supernatural powers other than appearing on his hand after the dream wedding. Whoever it was that he was married to was powerful if the ghosts were paying attention to the ring.

As the thought of the kiss crossed his mind, he felt his face flush. It was a sweet kiss, but he was still completely clueless as to why anyone in their right mind would want to marry him, though it had to be a ploy of some kind…A trick to cause mischief or something because he wasn't…As much of a hero as he could be, Luigi was more than aware of how others thought of him.

"Luigi?" Gadd asked softly, placing a hand on his shoulder and pulling him out of his thoughts with a startled eek.

"Yeah?" Gadd looked a little worried and he didn't like to see the man worry about him that much, there were days that he was at odds with the man but generally, they were good, they worked together well, and he felt like he could tell the older man nearly anything.

"You've been out of sorts all night; do you want to talk about it?" Did he really want to mention what had happened? What if Gadd freaked out simply because of the implications? There was a lot going on that he couldn't make heads or tails of.

"I had a weird dream last week, and Mario found this on me." He pulled out the ring from under his shirt and Gadd's eyes got as round as saucers.

"That's. But that belonged to, wait-who did you marry in your dream?" Luigi shrugged; how did he even explain that one?

"I never saw their face…maybe a hint of glowing eyes but even then, I don't know if that was in the dream or my mind trying to fill in the picture." Gadd frowned rubbing his chin with one hand and moved to sit down. Luigi followed and sat near him, waiting for what he had to say.

"It could be just a rumor rather than the truth because King Boo hasn't confirmed it with anyone as far as I know but he was supposedly a prince from a kingdom that is long gone now and this ring…It was his mother's, but it's supposed to hold power only a Royal could ignite, lost to time." King Boo? As in the King Boo that loved to scare him and put his friends and family in paintings King Boo! That couldn't be right! Why would Boo marry him? Why kiss him like that!

But if that was the case then he wanted to know how to use it because if he knew how maybe it couldn't be used against him. "How would a royal activate the power do you know?" Gadd nodded and spun in his chair rummaging in the bookcase he'd sat next to. Finally pulling out an extremely old-looking book, blowing dust from the book causing Luigi to cough and swat in the air.

"Apparently if you say a specific command word it will activate whatever power the ring has, though it doesn't say what the power is only that the last person to have that ring died using its power to save the kingdom." Oh well, they were not going to test that out today then.

"I still don't understand any of this, I just…I can't understand what plan he had, why he needed to marry me for his plan, what the hell even is the plan I just can't." Luigi's chest tightened and tears formed in his eyes. He hastily wiped them away; Gadd placed a reassuring hand on his arm.

"We'll figure this out don't worry." He gave Gadd a watery smile and nodded, throat too tight to talk. Because if it was true and Boo was the one who married him then…

Then any hope Luigi had that the mysterious husband would care about anything that affected him was dead. Boo wouldn't care about his feelings or what kind of damage this whole mess would cause him and he just couldn't cope with that. Couldn't cope with how lonely it would make him in the long run.

Was it too much to ask to be loved? To have someone who would cherish and care for him like he would if he'd had the choice, was he doomed to forever be alone and unwanted by everyone around him?
