This was unexpected, he watched as Boo moved about the grand drawing room. Luigi had expected that in the waking world, Boo would look as he always did, but he'd taken his humanoid form into the waking world. He was every bit as handsome now as he was in dreams and Luigi hadn't been certain if Boo was making him feel that way in the dream meetings or if that was how he felt about the form his archnemesis had taken- Excuse him, former Archnemesis now husband.
His face warmed as he thought about all the things Daisy had said to him teasing really, about wooing his husband and he was not about to do that at all! Luigi was not in love with Boo, and he doubted that would ever happen with the way Boo had tricked him.
Boo turned as he paced and paused. Their eyes met and Boo shifted as if suddenly nervous but why would he be? Luigi had been the one to take the risk and come here, Boo could easily just trap him and why had he thought this was a good idea?
Maybe it was just the paranoia kicking in, but he suddenly got the feeling that Boo didn't want to talk like he was bidding his time to just capture Luigi and do whatever he wanted but was worried about something interrupting him or Luigi managing to beat him again…
"Look all your pacing is freaking me out." Boo frowned and shook his head before taking a seat in one of the comfortable-looking chairs with a small table between them, probably used for tea between people while they chatted. Luigi finally took his seat, a cup of tea appearing at his elbow as if by magic. Or maybe a ghost? Either way, it was a warm drink and something he could do with his hands despite his mistrust of it. Luigi inhaled the scent of the tea, warmth tickling his nose. He knew this tea, Honey Ginger Chamomile, he had some in his cupboard at home and Mario refused to drink any of it, but it was a relaxing tea and he especially enjoyed drinking it on a rainy day watching the storm clouds as they doused everything outside.
"While I know you need answers, I also find myself at a loss at how to explain any of what has happened."
It wasn't difficult, they had already gone over the basics, but he wanted to know more, like why the artifact existed and why living brides were important. Not to mention what role he would play as the Living Bride.
"Look, what's expected of me as the Living Bride? What if anything do I need to do?" Boo nodded and steepled his fingers together.
"There's not much you have to do really, just make sure that my 'needs' are met." That sounded like a big deal because what exactly were those 'needs'? Luigi could feel his face warm, and he swore steam was pouring out of his ears.
"And what does that mean? What needs are we talking about here?" Boo flushed, eyes closing with a grimace on his lips.
"I know that sounds well the way you took that but that's not what I meant. It's more emotional based, it's to keep the current King or Queen from becoming overwhelmed, just little things like sharing dinners occasionally, or having tea, just something to distract me when everything gets to be too much."
That didn't sound nearly as bad as Boo initially made it out to be and it sounded like something he would have been willing to do even if he hadn't been the living bride, though given the way Boo had seemed to be well for lack of better words off his rocker. There had been a loneliness that called to Luigi the way it almost always seemed to for him.
Mario said it was his gift, it felt more like a curse. Though if Boo just needed someone to keep his head on straight that wasn't going to work out so well, he had no clue how to make sure Boo didn't get stressed when he wasn't around, which meant he had to be around.
Boo was saying they had to live together as well as be married. This got him thinking about the last Living Bride, where had they gone when the last king had passed the mantle?
"I take it as to mean there is a room for me here." Boo nodded, letting a breath escape-clouding around him like it was cold. The room was not that cold, but Boo was standing before Luigi could even think to ask the man about the strange occurrence.
"Come I'll show you it." He followed the other and watched as wispy hair waved in the non-existent wind that always with Boo. It was odd being so maybe not welcomed but also not attacked and having Boo show him to what would be 'his' room. The other ghosts, few that there were had been told about the state of things because none of them gave him bad looks or whatever they might do otherwise.
Luigi grunted as he ran into something solid and Boo chuckled, moving Luigi around from his back where he'd crashed and into the doorway of a room. It was a beautiful room as he moved forward, ghostly plants thriving here and there, a sitting room with green touches here and there, the chairs all had little green painted plants climbing up them, the table a flower that spread across it underneath a glass surface and three doors.
The window in the sitting room overlooked a garden, this was more than he'd expected. It was worthy of a king…or their consort. It was still odd to think of himself that way, honestly, he was having trouble wrapping any of this around his mind.
Turning from the window he spotted Boo settling into one of the chairs, their tea reappearing on the table now with cute little biscuits and cakes. Luigi sat pulling a little cake onto the saucer, thinking of how to approach their situation.
"I think it's interesting that you wanted me to be the living bride, was I your first choice?" He took a sip of his tea and Boo wasn't prepared for the question.
"You were, but why are you asking me that now?" Because if he was going to help Boo, he would have to understand the Ghostly King better than he had as an enemy and the best way to do that was having a conversation. And what did one talk about when suddenly pushed into a situation? How did they get into it in the first place?
"If I'm going to help as the Living Bride it would be beneficial to know more, right? I should know at the very least what stresses you out, what makes you rage or saddens you. We must be partners and share ourselves. You'll probably learn things about me, and I'll get to learn more about you than I ever expected to."
Boo was abnormally quiet after his little speech so Luigi took a bite of his cake, savoring the rich flavors of the cake and the frosting.
"Would it be so odd if I were to tell you that I already wondered what you were like beyond the terror I made you feel?" Peculiar certainly as Boo only ever seemed to want to frighten and lock him up before this whole mess.
