John, Isaac, and Octavia entered the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom but were immediately confused when they saw that the desks had been moved aside with a large cabinet at the front of the classroom.
"Any idea what's going on?" asked Octavia.
"Not a clue." Said John.
"Greetings students."
Harry Potter stepped out of his office.
"Today, we're going to be learning about boggarts. These creatures are able to shapeshift into whatever a person's worst fear is." Said Professor Potter.
The students went stiff, they knew about boggarts, but they didn't think that they would learn about them in only their second year.
"Now, once I open this cabinet, the boggart will come out, but there is a spell that will allow you to combat a boggart, does anyone know what it is?"
There were no answers from the students.
"No? Well, the way to defeat a boggart is with laughter, if you are to encounter a boggart, the spell to cast is 'Riddikulus' but that is not all, the spell will transform the boggart into whatever you focus on, but you need to focus on something funny. Now, who wishes to go first?"
A Gryffindor boy with light brown hair and green eyes stepped forward.
"Ah, Mr. Goldfinch, tell me, what is it you fear most?"
"It's…the extinction of all magical creatures."
"Well, once I unlock the cabinet, be prepared." Said Potter.
With a wave of his wand, the cabinet unlocked, the corpse of a hippogriff fell out of the cabinet. A niffler limped out of the cabinet before dropping dead. The skeleton from a porlock was thrown out of the cabinet. One by one, more dead bodies of different magical creatures came from the cabinet.
"Remember, Caleb, focus on something funny and cast Riddikulus."
Caleb raised his wand.
"Riddikulus."
Within the blink of an eye, the dead creatures suddenly turned into cartoonish looking balloons. The students started laughing.
"Wonderful, now students, line up." Said Potter.
The students lined up. After Caleb, Ravenclaw student, Vance Karter, took his turn. The balloons turned into a vicious looking werewolf.
"Riddikulus."
The werewolf shrunk in size, turning into a cute little puppy. After Vance was Karmah Buttah, whose boggart took on the form of a mummy, only for her Riddikulus to cause the mummy to shed its bandages, revealing a house elf on stilts. Thea Aves' boggart was her father expressing his disappointment in her, with a cast of Riddikulus, the boggart was given a pumpkin for a head. Shadow Foxglove's boggart was fire, which became a red tube man.
"Well done, Mathias, you're next." Said Harry.
Mathias stepped up and the boggart transformed into Professor Ironbark. Mathias' hand shook as he cast Riddikulus, transforming the boggart into a clown. Sunny Primrose's boggart was a banshee, which she turned into an opera singer. After Sunny, it was John's turn. Everyone was extremely curious, John was the student that was known for catching a dark wizard last year, what would someone like him fear? The boggart morphed into something Harry recognized immediately, a Death Eater. John's hand shook, he tried to keep the funny image in his mind, but it didn't work, the only thing he could think about was more of his biggest fear.
"Riddikulus."
The spell was able to transform the boggart, but rather than into something funny, it morphed into what appeared to be a hooded dark figure with pale skin and glowing red eyes.
"Riddikulus."
Another failed attempt, the boggart now turned into another villainous looking wizard, their face still hidden. John kept trying, but after several attempts, it still failed.
"Riddikulus."
One final try, but still with no success, the boggart morphed into a form of Rudas, complete with his mask. John dropped his wand and fell to his knees as the boggart removed the mask, and John was staring at the visage of himself.
"RIDDIKULUS." Said Harry.
The Boggart morphed into a puff of smoke. John picked up his wand and walked to sit in the back as he caught his breath. Everyone looked at him in confusion and surprise, unsure what they just saw. Even Professor Potter didn't know how to react.
