Dean was crying... again. Sam was trying to figure out just why he was bawling at this time. Dean disgustingly snorted up his snot and wiped his red and puffy eyes. Sam and Jack leaned against the door frame to the map room looking in.
"Is it too hard to ask for one frick'n band that's as good as the old days?" He sniffled, "I just want some new bangers to listen to,".
"Is he really crying about hair bands?" Jack looked at Sam.
"I guess so," Sam replied. Sam typed and scrolled through his phone in search of some new bands to try. He walked in and set his phone down with the speaker turned up on a playlist of newer hairbands.
"Hey, listen to this," he smiled. Dean scoffed and started to cry again. Sam froze, not sure why he started crying again.
"I don't want new music. I want to listen to the oldies like they're new! Are you a damn idiot!" He shouted in Sams face. Jack quickly pulled Sam back as he smelt distress pheromones from the omega. Sam covered his nose and quietly escaped.
Sam had his nose buried deep in the garbage to get the pheromones out of his system. Jack sighed and looked back in the direction where Dean was.
"When did he stop wearing scent blockers? I know he's stuck down here, but does he not realize that his pheromones will affect both of us?" He looked at Sam, who was nearly gagging at the stink, "well, you more than me, but still,". Sam pulled his head out of the garbage and went to the sink, and washed his face.
"Can you go give him one?" Sam asked.
"A scent blocker? I dunno. I know it doesn't affect me as bad as it does you, but it still messes with me," Sam sighed.
"And I doubt he'll take it willingly right now. Let's just let him cry himself out,".
Sam and Jack stayed in Jack's room for the next few hours. They wanted to space themselves from Dean but wanted to know when he returned to his room. Around 3 in the morning Sam finally heard Dean's door shut. He looked back to Jack. He was passed out on his bed, slumped over the bible he was studying. Sam got up and threw his blanket over him. He turned off his light and gently shut his door. He turned to Dean's door and placed his ear on it. He heard more sniffling and a quiet mumbling.
"Come on Cas, pick up... I need you," Sam opened the door and poked his head in. Dean was sitting on his bed and had his phone next to his ear. His face was dry but it was obvious that he had been crying all day. His eyes stared in the distance, hopeful and needing. "Cas, please pick up," he repeated. Sam wanted to go in and rip the phone away from him. But something in him hoped Cas would answer and Dean would tell him the truth. Suddenly Dean's face contorted and he collapsed into himself after he threw the phone hard against the wall. His hands covered his face as he silently wept. Sam stepped in and looked at the phone. He picked it up and put it to his ear.
"...Voice a mail," the phone beeped, alerting that it was recording. Sam sighed and hung up. It was Cas's' voicemail. He turned back to Dean, who was now slumped over and his hands were in his lap. Sam knelt down in front of him and looked up into his eyes. They were red and puffy but also tired and dark. Sam hesitated but put his hands in Deans. He released his calming scent to help soothe his brother. Dean didn't react to it at first. But then he took in a deep breath and closed his eyes. Sam removed his hands but continued to squat down to his brother's level.
"All day... I just wanted him," Dean spoke in a hoarse voice.
"Huh?" Sam looked at him.
"Cas... I just... miss him so much. I just wanted to hear him. I need to hear his voice,"
"Is that why you've been crying all day?" Sam gave his brother a soft smile. Dean nodded.
"I want him to come back,". Sam's smile faded and he sighed, looking down.
"You know he can't come back. He'll kill your pup. You know that" Dean's lip started to quiver.
"I don't know if I care," Dean admitted. Sam knew this wasn't true. He knew he loved his pup and would want it to live, even if it had to stay in hiding forever. Sam got up and pulled the desk chair to him. He sat in it and Started releasing his calming scent more. Dean took it in and silently cried. He soon couldn't keep his eyes open and laid on his bed and fell asleep. Sam watched him until he woke up the next morning.
