Rowena was showing everyone who wanted to watch how to swaddle the little pup, Avery. Sam stood a little further back, watching but knew she was still very much mad at him. Bobby moved to his side.

"Sam," the older man whispered.

"Yeah?" Sam looked at him. Bobby moved his head back, gesturing him to follow. Sam did just that. They entered the kitchen. Garth, Donna, and Jody were already there. They were all circled around someone. Sam looked over their shoulders.

"Shit," to his horror it was Chuck. Again. The god smiled at him innocently, wrinkling his eyes and showing his teeth with a innocent smirk. "What are you doing here?" Sam tried not to show his fury.

"Well, after the show you put on I had a feeling that I would be able to meet my grandpup a little sooner than expected," Chuck shrugged playfully.

"You're not welcome here," Sam growled. Chuck laughed.

"I only showed up here and not directly in the infirmary because I didn't want little Avery to cry. You should really be thanking me," Chuck put his finger on his lip, pointedly.

"Why did you make me take that deal?" Sam huffed, guilt eating at him.

"Sammy, Sammy, Sammy- I didn't make you take the deal. You made Dean take the deal. And I wouldn't call it a deal," Chuck looked into the air, gasping for the right word, "more of an exchange,".

Everyone looked at eachother.

"What do you mean?" Bobby glared at him. Chuck only smiled.

"Let me see my granddaughter," he paused, "please," Chuck seemed to cause no harm. Bobby looked at Sam. The tall alpha bit his lip.

"No,". Bobby answered for him.

"Shh, shhh," Chuck wagged his finger, "I'm not asking you,". Sam took in a deep breath. He shook his head. Chuck didn't like that.

"You can invite me oooorr..." he trailed off. Sam looked at Bobby. Bobby still shook his head. "Follow me," Sam rolled his eyes. Hewalked to the infirmary, Chuck following right behind him. Donna ran up to his side.

"Sam what are you doing?" She spoke in a hushed tone.
"Look- maybe he just wants to see the pup, maybe he's just being cryptic and foreboding because he's an asshole," he paused, "Wouldn't be the first time."

Sam led them in. Dean looked up smiling and holding his pup with Cas by his side. They looked up and scowled. Cas snarled and Dean let out unpleasant scents. Chuck put his arms out, wiggling his fingers.

"Grandpa wants to see his puppy!" Chuck smiled. Dean pulled Avery away covering her pale face with her blanket.

"Go to hell," Dean growled. Chuck smiled.

"What's the harm? I've given you everything you wanted. You have your pup, your Alpha, and your life," Chuck pouted, "can't I ask just for one thing? Kelly made Jack into a full gown man before I even knew she was pregnant,".

"That's not true," Cas glared.

"You're right," Chuck shrugged, "I did know, but she did have him grow faster than normal. So, if I could just hold her once, I would just be so happy."

Dean stared at him. He knew he shouldn't. He knew it would turn out badly. But he knew something worse could happen if he didn't comply. Dean held her out. Cas tried to pull her back but Chuck swept her away. He looked at her and smiled. He cooed and awed at her. He rubbed his nose on hers and kissed her forehead. The longer he held her the more calm Dean felt.

"There," he handed her back to Dean and Cas, who scented her over and over, "That's all I wanted," Sam sighed in relief. "Oh, and this," he snapped his fingers and Cas collapsed. Rowena and Garth went to Cas' side and Sam grabbed Chuck by the collar. Dean froze with Avery sleeping in his arms staring at his alpha.

"What the hell did you do?!" Sam barked and growled in Chuck's face. Chuck shrugged nonchaluntly. Sam then smelled an intimidating scent. He dropped Chuck and coward away. Sam looked at him confused.

"You often forget that I can really do anything I want. I can make myself in to Enigma if I want. I find it boring though," Chuck rolled his head around and the scent disappeared. Sam recovered quickly. "I honestly don't know how you boys are so trusting of me continuously," he laughed "Like- it's so human and amazing that you keep trusting people you shouldn't," he put up his hands in a admittance pose, "But, I will take some blame. I wasn't forthcoming with you all," Chuck frowned. "I mean I did have a book full of rules and pups with angels was a big no-no and cost the life of the monster's mother. But I knew I would miss you and-" he rolled his eyes," would figure out how to come back," he waggled his finger playfully, "like you always do. So; I decided that I would have to take something away. Something you can't get back," Chuck booped Deans nose.

"You-" Dean's horrified face twisted into anger, "killed Cas!?"

Chuck threw up his arms and shook them. "No, no, no, that's the best part! He's not dead!" He smiled. "He's brain dead," he pointed at his head.

"Wh-what?"

"So- first, I was kill Dean, no, too easy, done it before, next. Kill the pup, HELL no. I'm not messing with a dams pup. I made dams so crazy. 'm god but- a new dam, pff- no thank you. And pup killing is kinda old testament. Ehh" he waved his hands again, "messy stuff. So that leaves Castiel. My son. I was inspired by uninspired writers. Amnesia, done it, didn't work, make him impotent- I like it- believe me it was a hard contender, but I thought- irreversible coma. Brain damage, ooooh chefs kiss of bad writing."

"No," Dean hands shook with Avery in them.

"No, it works, I thought of all of the plot holes. So Angels don't really get brain damage, but make him human- done. Then give him irreversible brain damage," Chuck explained.

Dean pulled himself off the bed, falling to the floor with Avery clinging to his chest. He shook Cas with his free hand. "Cas, CAS!" He shook him. Deans vision blurred, his head spun. Nothing was right. Chuck leaned down and grabbed Avery from him. He held her gently in his arms.

"You're right, it's not bad writing, or lazy. Just- if not written thought out, it becomes a crutch and a cop out. I would like to think I'm on the better side of using the trope but I have to step back and let my work simmer and come back with new eyes. Well, I would if I was really writing," He leaned down and offered the pup to Dean. Dean looked at him then his pup. He took his pup in his arms and leaned on Cas, still shaking him.

"Cas, damn you, wake up. I can't lose you now," he whispered.

"But I'm not coming back to fix this if I change my mind. You are stuck with a brain dead alpha and a newborn pup," he poitned at her and she coughed, "with the croup," he waved, "bye-bye". Sam lunged at him before he completely disappeared.

Bobby leaned down and slapped Cas' face, already knowing that Chuck wasn't lying. Rowena went through a catalouge of spells in her mind that might help. Jack stood next to Cas trying to wake him too. Everyone was doing something to get Cas back to life. But Dean. Dean sat frozen. He couldn't move. He hated that he couldn't do anything. His brain swum and spun. He couldn't think. Only images passed through his mind as he clung to Cas's shirt.

Cas looked down on him. His hand outstretched, reaching for him. Cas grabbed Deans shoulder and pulled him up, close to his body. This... this was the first time they met. The first mark Cas put on him. The first time he was truly saved. He could see it now. It was a new memory that was dormant in him. His angel form was beautiful but, he missed his human like face. Although this form still felt familiar. He could feel his warmth, his grace, his perfectness.

He then pounded on Cas's chest. He pounded it again. And again. He screamed his name, his voice breaking.

Everyone just watched him.

After a few minutes Bobby Garth, Donna, and Jody carried Cas out and drove him to the hospital. Everyone watched Dean hold Avery on the floor. His eyes were dry but he still couldn't see. He hummed a random tune broken up by sobs and sniffling.

As the hours passed more people left the room. Dean didn't know where they went, he didn't care. Sam was the last one in the room. Sam picked him up off the floor and put him back on his bed. Sam kissed Avery on her head and put his forehead against his brothers. He left them too.

Dean was alone. More than he ever had been before.

Avery coughed. Dean blinked and looked at her. He looked down at her face. The corners of her eyes teared up as she coughed. Her eyes opened and shined. Green like his own. She was beautiful. She was warm. She was perfect. She shared the same graceful aura as her sire. Dean sniffled. He didn't even realize he was crying. He held her close to his face.
