At the mayor's funeral, it was raining like a cliche. Mara felt royally obligated to go along with virtually the entire school and town. Mara held no expression and was the last one to leave as the highest-ranking person present. Mara then saw movement in the forest. Wondering what it might be, Mara gave chase.
The forest felt an intense wind as Mara sped through it faster than the eye could see. Mara then stopped herself as she lost the figure. She scanned the forest with falcon and X-ray vision all at the same time. Suddenly, she powered up to Super Insane as she was attacked with a sword. She raised her index finger and blocked the sword blade. Super Insane Kon smirked as he thought he almost had her. Their golden auras flared blasting leaves and dirt away from them.
"Not bad," Kon smiled amused.
"Kon, what are you doing here?" Mara asked annoyed as they both powered down.
"Monsters, murder, mayhem, how could I resist?" Kon smiled. "I kind of need to keep a low profile. I just had a major fuck up in Boston."
"Very well," Mara said as she brought him to the bee hive. "This place belongs to a friend. Don't mess with the bees."
"You know, when you give me the death stare of disapproval, you remind me of Mother," Kon smirked. "Speaking of scary things, what are we dealing with here?"
"Shapeshifter that may be under the control of someone else. Obviously, if we kill the monster, we won't know the puppet master," Mara said.
"Obviously," Kon agreed.
"I'll handle the monster. You just...stay here," Mara said and then left him at the bee hive.
Mara went back to her dorm room only to be interrupted by Dawnstar. "Hi. I just figured you were still at the mayor's wake."
"There was a wake?" Mara sighed, realizing she had forgotten an important public function.
"So...how is it going?" Dawnstar asked conversationally.
"I've noticed you have annoying habits. I can help fix that for you," Mara offered.
"Such as?" Dawnstar frowned.
"Your dancing and chanting, smoking weed, alcohol abuse, and gambling addiction," Mara said insensitively. "However, none of these things are your fault."
"Oh, really?" Dawnstar asked offended.
"They're the result of thetans in your body. I have the means to extract them so you can assimilate into proper society," Mara said.
"That sounds like bullshit," Dawnstar doubted.
"If you don't join us, you're against us," Mara said wide-eyed.
"Who is us?" Dawnstar wondered.
"I can't tell you that until you agree to the treatment," Mara said.
"No way," Dawnstar shook her head.
"Then, I have no use for you. You should find another roommate," Mara said coldly.
"Maybe I will," Dawnstar said incredulously.
"I should have clarified. You should move your stuff out and leave," Mara corrected herself.
"Enjoy your Fortress of Solitude, princess," Dawnstar said as she stormed out.
"It's not solitude if you're still here," Mara said as she exited.
That evening, Mara entered the basement library. Instead of finding Lemnos, she found Ulu. "Oh, it's you," Mara rolled her eyes. "What are you doing here?"
"I don't have to explain myself," Ulu deflected.
"You shouldn't be here," Mara advanced on him. "You're not one of us."
"One of whom?" Ulu wondered.
"You need not concern yourself with it," Mara backtracked.
"You know what you're problem is?" Ulu asked rhetorically.
"Do tell," Mara entertained.
"You don't know who your real friends are. I have a collection of paintings just on you in my studio," Ulu said. "But all I get is suspicion and rudeness."
"Fine, you want honesty. Here, it is. You're not the monster," Mara revealed.
There was an awkward silence between them. "Well...no shit," Ulu agreed.
"You're boring. You bore me, Ulu," Mara told him off.
"So, you actually want me to be the monster?" Ulu asked incredulously.
"I'd like you better," Mara admitted.
"That's fucked up. You're fucked up," Ulu pointed out and then stormed out of the library.
Mara then scanned the library and saw a secondary figure watching. "How long have you been back there?"
"Enough to know that guy is a beta male," Kon mocked.
"Do you have something useful to contribute?" Mara asked.
"What am I? An exposition dump?" Kon mocked. Kon then took a painting off the wall and put it aside revealing a safe.
"How did you know that was there? The painting has lead paint all over it," Mara asked amazed.
"When you coat only one thing with lead in a room, it's a dead giveaway," Kon said obviously.
"How do you hope to open the safe without the combination?" Mara asked impatiently.
Kon punched the safe through and took a book out. "You think this might be useful?" he asked sarcastically.
Mara and Kon hung out in her dorm room. "A room all to yourself? Royalty has its perks," Kon smiled amused.
"Actually, I did have a roommate but I evicted her because she refused to join the Sharing," Mara said vaguely.
"The what?" Kon wondered.
"Mother's yearbook wasn't informative," Mara said, putting the book they found aside.
Miss Thorn then abruptly entered the room. "Dawnstar has requested to room with Mysa Nal for the remainder of the semester," she informed Mara.
"Good," Mara said pleased.
"When there's a girl fight, I like to get both girls' perspectives on what happened," Miss Thorn said gently.
"I was constantly making racist derogatory remarks about her Native ancestry while implying her disability was akin to homosexuality and pressing her to join my cult," Mara explained.
"That sort of behavior can result in an EO complaint," Miss Thorn warned.
"I'm immune from such things," Mara said dismissively.
"Part of the dorm experience is making friends with people that you wouldn't normally connect with and those friendships turn into lifelong bonds," Miss Thorn told her.
"Only if they join my cult," Mara insisted.
"Is it really that difficult to admit you made a friend?" Miss Thorn asked incredulously.
"Whether she's a friend or not is irrelevant. I'll select my own roommate, one that is on the same page as me. You'll make it happen," Mara ordered.
Miss Thorn shook her head sadly and left the room.
The next morning, Mara was hauled into Principal Ream's office with Dr. Kong already present. "Dr. Kong and I were just discussing your assessment," Principal Ream said pleasantly.
"I need to sign off on it before I send it to your mother's office," Dr. Kong said.
"Well, what's the verdict, doctor? Am I cured? Or do I need more doses of conformity and obedience to the Crown?" Mara mocked.
"I'm glad you find this amusing. Your mother will not be," Dr. Kong warned.
"I've explained to Dr. Kong that you have taken small but meaningful steps toward embracing your Midvale family," Principal Ream said diplomatically.
"Have I?" Mara wondered. "I mean, I have joined a secret cult that has purged all negative...spirits from me. I have finally realized my inner Mara. You know what I mean?"
"Absolutely," Dr. Kong said, a member of the Church of Scientificity, herself.
"Then, we're done here," Principal Ream said pleased.
Later, Mara and Kon hung out at the Talon. Mara eyed Kon as he obnoxiously squirted the ketchup bottle into a tall glass of water to supposedly make it a V8 drink. "I think that guy is eying me," he said paranoid referring to Tyler.
"He's not interested in you," Mara assured him.
"Good, because that would be queer if he was," Kon said reassured.
Tyler then walked over and gave Mara another cup of coffee. "This is Kon-El, my brother," Mara introduced.
"Nice to meet you," Tyler said shaking his hand.
Kon smirked as he nearly crushed Tyler's hand before releasing him. "Yikes, you got a good grip," Tyler said flustered.
"Behave," Mara warned Kon.
"So...about our date?" Tyler asked awkwardly.
"How about...here?" Mara suggested.
"Sure," Tyler agreed.
That night, Mara and Tyler watched a movie at the Talon. After the movie, Tyler got bold. "Okay, don't hate me, but I think we should be more than just monarch and servant."
"You mean more than just a cynical plot to embarrass my mother?" Mara questioned.
"Right," Tyler nodded.
"I'm not romantic material. I will ignore you, stomp on your heart, and always put my interests and needs first," Mara informed him.
"Yeah, you can't push me away," Tyler said resolved.
"I'm being entirely serious," Mara assured him. "You will not survive an Insane Kryptonian."
"I'm tougher than I look," Tyler said confidently.
"You're making a mistake," Mara told him.
"Probably," Tyler agreed and then kissed her.
The next day, it was revealed that Dr. Kong had been brutally attacked. Principal Ream, Mara, and Sheriff Don met at the hospital. "She dead," he said glumly.
"Ulu has a shack in the woods filled with paintings of the monster. You should arrest him," Mara revealed.
Police immediately arrested Ulu and photographed his creepy studio in the woods. They found stalker pictures of Mara and a painting of Dr. Kong having her face shredded. "Oh, what the fuck?" Ulu exclaimed as he was taken away.
That evening, Mara and Tyler hung out at the Talon after hours. "I heard what happened to Ulu. That's crazy shit," Tyler remarked.
"He didn't do it. I just hate him," Mara explained.
"But he had pictures of you, paintings of the monster, and a recently painted picture of the dead shrink," Tyler said confused.
"He's able to see visions in the present and then draw them. It's his thing," Mara said dismissively.
"If he's not the killer, then who is?" Tyler wondered.
"You, obviously," Mara said nonchalantly.
"Wait...what?" Tyler asked confused.
"I really do need to reevaluate my relationships," Mara said dryly.
"Why do you think I'm the monster?" Tyler asked confused.
"I have X-ray vision which means I can see a shapeshifter immediately. In your case, since you're human, I wasn't able to figure it out until you attacked me at the carnival," Mara revealed. "Also, when you kiss me, I can see through your memories so that confirmed it for me as well."
"You knew this whole time and didn't say anything?" Tyler asked stupefied.
"It's not really my job. I'm just a student trying to mind her own business and failing miserably," Mara sighed. "Also, I wasn't aware of who was controlling you until we kissed. If you had taken me up on my original bribe offer, it would have saved us both a lot of time and other people's lives."
"I'm being controlled?" Tyler asked alarmed.
"Wouldn't you like to know," Mara smiled amused.
"I would, actually," Tyler pressed.
"Look, it's a sensitive issue. I have to tread carefully here which is why I'm not going to do anything," Mara said. "So, you have nothing to fear from me. I'm not going to rat you out."
"But you're saying I've killed people. That I'm the bad guy," Tyler pointed out.
"You were being controlled by someone else. It's not your fault other than being an idiot that couldn't connect the dots. Also, your kill count is nothing compared to my friends and family," Mara downplayed.
"I'm feeling an existential crisis now. You're not fucking with me, are you?" Tyler asked hopefully.
"Afraid not. But here's the thing, Tyler. We can just let all of this disappear...if you join the Sharing," Mara said wide-eyed.
"The Sharing?" Tyler questioned.
"It's the term I used to describe...a church...known for...science," Mara said vaguely. "Just say you'll join, come back with me to the basement, and we'll square you away."
"That sounds like a cult. I'm not interested in jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire," Tyler said apprehensively.
"If you don't join, I'll turn you in or have someone else kill you," Mara said obviously.
"Alright, I'll join your...cult," Tyler agreed.
Mara and Tyler then shook hands. "I realize this little talk has ruined the mood, so I'm going to see you tomorrow," Mara said and then calmly left.
Later that night, Mara visited the sheriff's department jail where Ulu was being chained and locked up. "What are you doing here?" Ulu asked confused.
"I know you're not the monster. Probably wasn't a good idea to obsessively draw the monster and its victims though," Mara said.
"That was my secret studio no one was supposed to know about," Ulu said pissed off. "By the way, how do you know I'm not the monster?"
"I kissed the real monster. I mean...he was human when I kissed him and then I saw a vision. It's a Kryptonian power," Mara explained.
"So, you were kissing the murdering monster while I was being falsely accused?" Ulu asked outraged.
"Falsely accused in the loosest sense. You're under investigation for sexual assault," Mara said unsympathetically.
"Which is also bullshit," Ulu said outraged.
"We'll see," Mara said uncertainly. "I'm not here to bail you out of jail. Here are some crayons. Start drawing the monster's next move on the wall."
"You want my help? You ruined my life. You can go fuck yourself," Ulu refused.
"You can't say that to me. I'm a princess," Mara scolded.
"You're toxic," Ulu told her.
"And?" Mara wondered.
"If you want to help, leave and never come back," Ulu suggested.
"Look, I'm just going to put this here if you decide to change your mind," Mara said and gently placed the crayon box in his cell.
"Just leave!" Ulu shouted.
The next morning, Mara and Dawnstar had a chat. "I'm rooming with Mysa now and there's nothing you can say to change my mind," Dawnstar said to her.
"She's controlling the monster that kills people," Mara said nonchalantly.
"What the fuck?" Dawnstar squeaked.
"As a Naltorian witch, she has that power," Mara explained.
"I get that but she would never," Dawnstar doubted. "She's a hero."
"And also the younger sister of the Vindicator, Nura Nal, which makes this situation politically awkward. I surmise she took out Rol to make sure he couldn't predict her next move," Mara said.
"This is actually freaking me out," Dawnstar admitted.
"I've always believed relying on other people was a weakness. I still do," Mara said flatly.
"Well, it's certainly the case that we can't rely on the royal family to solve our problems because you just don't give a fuck," Dawnstar remarked.
"You expect too much from me. I'm only five years old in a teenage girl's body. My childhood has become completely compromised," Mara said resentfully.
"If you're not going to stop the monster, I'm going to rally real heroes that will," Dawnstar pledged.
"Yeah, good luck with that," Mara said as she went back to her reading.
"I'm not moving back in," Dawnstar said resolved. "As they say, keep your friends close and your enemies closer."
Mara eyed Dawnstar with visible confusion as she left the room.
In the conservatory, Mara summoned Mysa for a meeting. Like Nura, she had white hair and was always dressed in white. "So...how can I help you, Your Royal Highness?" Mysa asked with false sincerity.
"You can drop the act. I know it's you controlling the monster," Mara accused.
"Dawnstar is right. You really are crazy as fuck," Mysa denied.
"Rest assured I didn't use elaborate detective work to figure this out, just powers," Mara said. Mara then gestured for Tyler to enter the room.
"That's enough," Mysa rolled her eyes and then fired a magical blast from her hand that punched a hole through Tyler's torso dropping him. He immediately transformed back into a mortally wounded Principal Ream. She convulsed on the floor, went back to her Durlan form, and then died on the spot.
"Well...shucks," Mara muttered.
Mysa fired another blast hitting Mara in the head, dropping her.
That night, Mara woke inside the Danvers' mausoleum. Her hands were chained together with magical bonds from the ceiling. "Did you really think that trick with the shapeshifter was going to work?" Mysa asked unimpressed.
"For a moment there, yeah, I kind of did," Mara said honestly.
"I've been waiting a long time for this moment," Mysa said. "Soon, I'll be adding you to my collection of foot soldiers," she said referring to Tyler who was hanging out a distance away.
"What's your deal?" Mara demanded.
"A thousand years ago, a male Naltorian attempted to gain precognition by flooding his system with female hormones and going through female puberty. It actually worked...to a degree. No one knows how it worked. You simply can't "feel" your way into a genetic disposition. Nura and I are distant descendants of that Naltorian transsexual and our name has been tainted ever since," Mysa said peeved.
"How does this involve me?" Mara wondered.
"Because your mother made it happen. In 2018, your mother met Neo Nal, befriended him, made him a Super-Friend, and made it possible for Him to reproduce. Your mother fucked us over," Mysa said resentfully.
Mara gave her an odd look. "How is that possible?"
"Your human records are notoriously incomplete but we know exactly what your mother did. Now, I can't get to your mother just yet. She's far too powerful, so I'll use you for the time being," Mysa said.
"My mother is building a time machine. I'll remind her to fix the situation," Mara offered.
"You can go forward in time but never back," Mysa shook her head. "And I don't need your cooperation once I've made you a perfect slave." Mysa took her staff which glowed green and then tried to control Mara's mind. She gave Mara an odd look as she failed. "You have a seal around your mind," she realized.
"What are you going to do about it?" Mara mocked.
"I'm going to stab you instead," Mysa said and then sliced into her gut with a magical knife. Mysa then left the mausoleum with Tyler, leaving Mara hanging mortally wounded.
Mysa proceeded to go to the school to take out all the would-be Vindicators while Tyler patrolled the forests. Dawnstar was out and about looking for Mara when she was attacked by the Tyler monster. The two tumbled on the ground a bit until they slammed into a tree. Tyler bitch-slapped Dawnstar away as he quickly recovered. Dawnstar extended her wings to their maximum extent, flew up, and kicked Tyler to the ground. Tyler got back up, took Dawnstar by the neck, and slammed her against a tree.
A shot rang out as Sheriff Don arrived on the scene. Dawnstar kicked Tyler away and then rapidly went into a spin. Her wings sliced into Tyler's gut. Dawnstar then flew up and tried to get Tyler into a headlock. He resisted her and threw her off. Dawnstar flew up and gave Tyler a kick through a tree trunk. At this point, Dawnstar was exhausted and hurt. She collapsed on the ground completely done.
Tyler roared and went to attack her again. He suddenly stopped moving as a blur went past him. Kon materialized and clinked his sword. Tyler, the monster, fell to the ground with dozens of slash marks all over his body. The body then became human again revealing his identity.
"Tyler, is that you?" Sheriff Don asked stunned. "My boy!" he shouted stunned.
Kon gave Sheriff Don a sympathetic look but was also made aware of the sheriff's negligence in not knowing his own son was the killer. As the sheriff grieved over his son, Kon considered the best-case scenario for all concerned. He raised his hand and fired incinerating them both instantly.
Instead of fighting like heroes, the would-be Vindicatos fled the school like cowards giving Mysa control of the grounds. Kon then dropped down in the quad in front of Mysa. Fires raged all around the quad. "I've killed your sister and now I'm going to kill you just as easily," Mysa said to him.
Kon readied his sword and considered what slasher move he was going to use against her. Finally, he made his move. Mysa managed to avoid his strikes as her staff glowed green. Kon's power and speed radically decreased as he was now fighting at a nearly human level. Mysa blocked his sword strikes and then finally shattered his sword to pieces. Mysa then blasted Kon to the ground and held him in position with her staff.
"I'm sending you to hell where you belong," Mysa sneered as she pressed her staff's end toward his heart.
Suddenly, a fencing sword went through Mysa's back and out her chest, stunning her. Mysa spun around and saw Lemnos, the only teacher who remained behind. Enraged, Mysa bitch-slapped him away knocking him out.
Kara then flashed on the scene in her Supergirl uniform. Mysa held firm to her staff unintimidated. "What's your deal, Mysa?" Kara demanded.
"To prevent you from changing history and, therefore, changing this future," Mysa said vaguely.
"What the fuck?" Kara wondered.
"I can't trust you not to go back in time. Your feelings for your late sister are just too strong. I'll have to kill you here and now," Mysa said.
Kara eyed the injured Kon. "Find your sister," she ordered. Kon simply nodded and took off. She then turned back to Mysa and immediately fired heat vision that liquified the ground into mud. Mysa was caught up in the mud and disappeared.
"Drop the act, Mysa. I know that wasn't enough to kill you," Kara scoffed. After nothing happened, Kara reconsidered. "Maybe, it actually was."
Mysa laughed as she materialized from the mud and took humanoid form again. "Difficult students are all that more difficult to teach, am I right?" Mysa mocked.
"Don't I know it," Kara said dryly referring to her kids.
Mysa then raised two coffins from the ground and opened them revealing Astra and Non. "Your two greatest foes from your history. What are you going to do now? What can you do?" Mysa smiled wickedly.
"I didn't think I'd have to beat both of you a second time. I must thank you, Mysa, for the pleasure," Kara said sincerely.
"It's been a long time, little one," Astra said.
"You've not aged a bit. What's your secret?" Non asked confused.
"Well...it's a long and complex routine...," Kara began.
"Enough talking. Let's begin this," Mysa interrupted.
Astra and Non went for a coordinated attack. Kara blocked Non's punches and then swept his legs forcing him to withdraw. Astra attempted to slam down on Kara with her leg from above. Kara caught it and threw her away. Kara fired heat vision at them both to incinerate them. Astra sent frost breath in the other direction neutralizing the heat vision and creating a large cloud of super-heated steam. Mysa chuckled at the high-level battle she had manufactured.
Non skated across the icy ground and went for an attack. Kara fired heat vision bursts at him which he was able to deflect with his hands. Non leaped up and went for a kick. Kara managed to block it but then Non gave Kara a punch to the face. Non then kicked Kara away. Kara fell to the ground stunned. The Kryptonite in Mysa's staff was affecting her but not zombie Astra or Non.
Astra then took hold of Kara putting her in a headlock. Surprised, Kara found herself even in her strength with her. Kara eventually threw Astra off of her and took to the air. Non fired heat vision beams, dropping Kara back to the ground.
Mysa then used her staff to create an instant forest of trees. The tree trunks and roots took hold of Kara and pinned her in place. "It would seem this battle is over," Myssa said victoriously as she advanced.
The nano-machines on Kara's suit then shifted and liquified revealing a simple cloth suit underneath. The liquid metal took the form of Brainiac 5. "Ah, a newcomer," Mysa said amused.
"I warned you this could happen. Magic is your weakness, after all," Brainiac 5 lectured.
"I just wanted a well-rounded team. Is that so bad?" Kara rolled her eyes.
"Stop him now!" Mysa ordered Astra and Non.
The two zombie Kryptonians immediately attacked. Brainiac 5 formed sharp blades on his hands and sliced them both up forcing them to withdraw. Astra and Non's wounds immediately healed. Brainiac 5 then swiped at the tree roots freeing Kara.
"Well, at least, this will be a little more interesting," Mysa said as the fight went to another round.
Brainiac 5 detached a limb and gave it to Kara. The limb became a sword. Kara went straight for Mysa, the source of the problem. The two struck repeatedly staff-to-sword. Astra and Non intervened from both sides to trip Kara up. Kara blasted them both in their legs with heat vision just as they made contact. Mysa found an opening and struck Kara to the ground. Astra and Non's limbs quickly regenerated.
Mysa went over to Kara putting her staff in the ground and hunched over Kara's fallen body. "Are you alright, Supreme Leader? Surely, you're not done already. I am so disappointed. You, the mighty Supergirl who has mastered so many ridiculous powers, the legendary empress of the galaxy."
Kara suddenly punched her a distance away. Kara then blasted Astra and Non with frost breath, freezing them in place. Mysa got back up and quickly recovered. "I think a little psychological warfare is in order," she said and then masked her face with that of Alex Danvers.
"Oh, fuck me," Kara muttered. "You think that deters me? I've fought with my sister plenty of times," Kara shouted at her.
"Yes, but that was before her death," Mysa smirked.
Trees sprouted all around them invading every room and hallway of the school. Kara kept her distance from the tree roots and branches putting her exactly in the position Mysa wanted her. A tent of darkness then came over the top of Kara. Inside the darkness, Mysa punched at Kara repeatedly. "Whatever you do now, it's too late. I've won. I'm going to smash you, the pillar of the Vindicators, and destroy the world you've adopted," Mysa taunted.
"No matter what you do to me, there will always be someone left to kick your ass," Kara shot back through the darkness.
The darkness then faded revealing Lemnos with a tight grip on Mysa's shoulders. "What the fuck?" Mysa wondered.
"I'm not letting go until all your memories of your spells are gone," Lemnos said fiercely.
Mysa summoned Kara's sword and sliced Lemnos through the back with it. Still, Lemnos persisted in his hold on her staring intently into her eyes. "And now, I'll drag out all of your knowledge and seal it away," Lemnos told her.
"Knock it off. I won't let you do this to me," Mysa shrieked.
Lemnos fell to the ground finally succumbing to his injury. Kara then advanced on Mysa. "Your ambitions against me end here, witch. If not for the respect and admiration I have for your sister, I'd kill your ass where you stand."
Mysa looked to Astra and Non. "We apologize for the trouble we have caused you," Astra said to Kara.
"Please forgive me," Kara bowed her head to her.
Astra and Non then turned against Mysa. "Fuck this," Mysa said and then created a portal with her staff to the dreamworld where she disappeared. Astra and Non then turned to ash and blew away into the wind.
Kara merged with Brainiac 5 to repair her suit that was torn in several exposed areas. "Thank you, Lemnos. With Principal Ream gone, the school is yours," Kara promoted.
The next day, everyone was accounted for. Kara, Mara, and Kon were treated for their injuries while Sheriff Don was celebrated as a hero who died heroically fighting his monster son. Dawnstar was also given an assist and told to keep her mouth shut on what really happened. Midvale's leadership was shuffled due to the recent deaths and Midvale High began renovations due to the battle.
Mara and Dawnstar met at Prinicipal Ream's empty office. "I'm going to miss her," Dawnstar said tearfully.
"Well...that makes one of us," Mara said dryly. "But she died wanting to protect this school and the reputation of the royal family. She fought above all else to preserve the peace between Earth and the rest of the Galactic community. For that, she has my respect."
"She was one of us," Dawnstar agreed.
"In so far as she was an alien or a hero?" Mara asked.
"Yes," Dawnstar nodded, and then the two of them walked out into the halls.
"I'm going to fly my way to San Francisco now that classes are canceled for the foreseeable future," Dawnstar said ambitiously.
"So, you managed to straighten your wings out all on your own without needing doctors or clinics?" Mara asked.
"Yep," Dawnstar said proudly.
"Impressive," Mara said genuinely.
Mara then went over to Ulu who still looked pissed off. "I hear my mother freed you but what you said to me while you were in the cell, I will never forgive."
"I'm sorry. I should know that being close to you comes with a warning label. So, I have this for you," he said giving her a package.
Mara opened it revealing a thumb drive. "What is this?"
"All of my paintings of you, your family, and the school, are on that drive," Ulu said.
"You auditioning to be the royal family's official painter?" Mara asked cynically.
"Yes," Ulu stared her down.
"Don't bother. You already have the job," Mara informed him. "Don't expect me to call you for orders. I delegate people to do that for me."
"Of course," Ulu nodded.
"Goodbye, Ulu Vakk," Mara said respectfully and then left the school grounds.
Mara entered the royal limo that would take her back to Metropolis. She inserted the thumb drive into her phone and eyed all of the portraits Ulu had made for her. After looking at several dozen of them, she cracked a smile in appreciation.
End of Midvale Series
Author's Notes: I felt it was obvious Tyler was the monster from the beginning and this mockery of a mockery mocks this by having Mara know in the first episode. Mara's nonchalant do-nothing attitude toward murder, monsters, and mayhem is in great contrast to Kara's attitude in the AOS Midvale series. The plot twist with Miss Thornhill was also obvious with the casting of Christine Ricchi. I wanted more scenes of Mara delegating the cops but, honestly, the cops don't do crap in Wednesday (TV) and neither do the other outcasts really. So much emphasis is put on Wednesday that if she were removed from the story, which this series attempted to do, a lot wouldn't happen. I'll let you decide which extreme is more appropriate: Mara Vs Kara.
Time travel is complicated but if you're reading this far, you know Kara successfully goes back in time in AOS Seasons 3, 5-7. Knowing this, it creates a time loop where the past is in constant flux as to whether Alex dies or simply disappears from time, whether Kara's actions in AOS Seasons 5-7 have impacts here. This is made even more confusing with Alex having an appearance in Season 1 of this series, from the future to the past which is still the future relative to us. It's intentionally a cluster-fuck as a parody on time travel itself. There is a potential pothole with Mysa stating one can never go back to the past but Mysa is unaware Kara disappeared in 2017 rather than in 2018 and is thus unaware Kara successfully built a time machine in the future relative to this episode.
