A/N Baby Thomas working on LBSCR, until 106, his "twin" was built.
At Brighton Works, they decided to give Thomas a twin.
The workers at the factory were told by the head, "Thomas means twin so 106 will be his twin. We shall build 5 of these extended side tank E2s, at least, before we're done. Thomas included, so 4 more."
Thomas and his older siblings worked on the railway. When he could, Thomas talked to his siblings and was cheeky with his brothers or sometimes on his own. He generally had a perpetual cheeky smile, but sometimes things bothered him. Being ignored or treated meanly made him get sad and cry. If his driver was with him, he'd say, "Driver, can you dry my tears?" with the saddest look on his face. Sometimes, he found something disgusting or he got angry, but showed little fear. Though he was cheeky, he was also friendly and liked to cheer up his friends when they were unhappy. He and his siblings shunted and at times, pulled freight as well. Two of the older ones had tried passenger trains, but didn't have enough coal capacity, in addition to their tanks being too small.
Mary told her brother, "My fireman wishes I wouldn't cry, but I get overwhelmed with sadness or stressed. He says, "Don't be a cry-engine. Your tanks don't hold much water, so don't waste it.". Driver just wipes the tears away with a cloth and says, "Mary, you've got feelings you need to let out. Not being able to help my brothers or a friend in need of help and also when someone can't see good in me makes me stressed and sad."
In September, Thomas was introduced to his twin, Albert, a quiet, present, sensitive and cheeky little engine, before leaving. Thomas felt a mixture of emotions about leaving his home railway, excited about going to a new place, yet sad about the friends he had to leave behind and his siblings. He began to cry, huge water droplets streaming down his cheeks. WAAAAAAAH!
"Driver, can you dry my tears?" he sniffled. His face was wet with tears.
Thomas's driver climbed on his buffer beam. "There, there, Thomas," he said, pulling out a cloth from his pocket. "Let it all out. I know you've got emotions, so I'm here for you, to wipe your tears and help you through it." He gently rubbed his engine's cheeks and wiped his teary eyes, listening attentively to pick up on his values and cues.
Thomas cried more, fresh tears filling his eyes. He sniffled again, long and loud, then said, "I'm just so emotional, excited and sad to be leaving this place.", as his driver offered comfort.
He said, as he continued to wipe the tears away, "Go ahead and cry. Just vent and I shan't judge you, just give my care and compassion for the sad part. I accept your feelings, so feel them and I shall dry your eyes. Your fireman and I are going too.". He pressed the cloth to his engine's eyes and wiped all his tears away as best he could.
Thomas wept for awhile, then his tears finally slowed to a stop. His driver dried his last tears away, wiping his cheeks and eyes dry of tears, then went back to the cab with the wet cloth. His crew gave him a drink and they set off.
Thomas arrived on Sodor, unexpectedly. Though they were expecting another engine, Thomas was told he could stay if he could help build the new railway there.
A/N The next chapter will be Thomas helping build NWR, kind of a mash-up of a rewrite of The Building of NWR and Thomas and the Bullies, old fics of mine, but only because it covers the same ground as them. The end scene of this chapter comes from book and model canon.
