The day felt long... it actually dragged!
Gwen was being very 'sarcastic' to me, answering everything I said to her with a hard snarky voice.
I knew she was mad... but what could I do?
Just say sorry! My mind yelled at me in thought, and that you LOVE your little sister!
I shook my head hard, ignoring the advice of my head and soul and any other part of my body that felt something more.
Gwen eventually just waded through the waves, me keeping close by in case another shark decided it wanted duck for a snack.
"Gwen..." I groaned, and she only shook her head away, holding herself up high in position. I sighed exasperatedly but little did I know that things were just about to change.
"Who." I slammed into Gwen when she said this, her eyes going wide as a blue strong male duck dived into the ocean before rising back up in a harpoon-like soar and lifted to the sky again, a fish in his beak, "WHO. IS. THAT?!"
I cocked an eyebrow up confused as Gwen shoved me away and she just stared like a zombie at this other duck.
A duck that looked TOO old for her, if you ask me, but seemed close to the same age as me.
"Why?" I asked her then, and she glared back at me before ogling the duck up ahead, "Do you like him?"
"Yes." Is what she said, straight away with no doubt, "He is so-"
"Hot-?"
"COOL!" She then yelled in return and I only stared at her, befuddled.
The young male duck seemed to notice our eyes were on him and he just swallowed his fish whole before flying over to us and landing next to us on the waves.
"Hello!" He shouted, full of energy and zest for life, "You must be Dax!"
"Er...?" I said back in return, how did this guy know me? "How do you know me-?"
"QUIET, DAX!" Gwen hissed at me, looking at the other duck like he was an Adonis or something, "I'm GWEN! GWEN MALLARD!" She then screamed at him and he only laughed in such a charming way.
"Nice to meet you, Gwen,"
"MALLARD!"
"Gwen Mallard!"
"Huhhuhuh!" She sighed heavily, almost fainting but I caught her back before she looped over and fell into the ocean, under the water.
"Sorry, again," I butted in fast, still looking at him and his rippling good looks, "WHO are you?"
"I'm part of Kim's flock," He just said simply, winking at Gwen and she blushed, again nearly fainting once more, "And SHE has not stopped talking about you!"
"Oh," I said, my own cheeks going red now too, "Cool!" I squeaked.
"Yeah, cool," He said back, slightly coldly and I had to wonder why? Only moments ago he had seemed so suave and ready to meet us.
"Well, my name is-"
"Dax, yeah, I got that," He only said with a cool smile, winking at Gwen again and Gwen only giggled like a babbling buffoon, "I'm Max,"
"Max?!" I squeaked again, shocked at how similar his name was to mine!
"Yeah, like Dax, only better," He said, not even looking at me as he spoke. Gwen and I glanced between one another and she only whispered to me in a hasty voice.
"I've found my sugar daddy,"
"STOP." I said to her annoyed, "Do you even know what that means?"
"Y-yes!" Gwen snapped back at me, and held her head high as she answered, "He will give me candy!"
"You are SO dumb," I said to her with a giant roll of my eyes and she only stuck her tongue out to me, I grit my beak in anger at this response.
"Actually," Max then asked, looking at the two of us with eager sparkling eyes, "Have you seen Kim today?"
"Er... no?" I said back slowly and Max only laughed, holding his stomach from the dramatic act of his giggles.
"Oh, good! Good!"
Me and Gwen again gave each other confused looks.
"Welp, I'll be off!" He added instantly about to take to the sky and Gwen only sighed.
"Take me with you..."
"See ya!" He called and flapped his wings heavily, hitting the sky and disappearing from our sight.
"He seemed... nice?" I said, not knowing really what to say.
"He seemed PERFECT!" Gwen only sighed out heavily once more.
"You like him, huh?"
"Like him?!" Gwen said, finally locking eyes with me again and said like she was being taken up on cloud nine, "I LOVE him!"
"Heh heh," I only laughed at her and she went heatedly red in her cheeks, yelling back at me.
"STOP IT!"
I calmed down in my chuckles but I decided to follow Max a little bit, just to see where he had gone to so suddenly.
"We gonna stalk him?" Gwen asked me instantly and I nodded my head, replying.
"Yep."
"Brilliant!" She cried back and we both hit the sky moments later.
We were high in the bright blue within seconds and saw Max soar himself down in a round circle trail till he hit a lake and began wading through the water over to a pretty duck.
BUT I knew who that pretty duck was.
It was KIM!
MY KIM!
I nudged Gwen hard as we both landed hidden in a tree, peering out through the branches and leaves to see what was about to go down.
"So..." Kim said to Max, nudging him playfully as she asked, "Did you like him?"
"Honestly, Kim," Max said back, looking at her quite seriously and placing his wing on her shoulder like he was about to deliver some bad news, "I don't think he's good enough for you,"
My jaw dropped open, so did Gwen's as she whispered loudly to me.
"HE'S MAKING YOU LOOK BAD!"
"Yeah!" I whispered loudly back to her, "I can see that!"
"Why don't you like him?!" Kim continued to ask Max and he sighed heavily, moving slightly away from her now as he just gazed up at the sky.
"It's just... he's not even the same duck species as us,"
"I think you're being too superficial, MAX," Kim said to him, hurt and he only smirked, scoffing at her answer before only shrugging his shoulders and adding.
"Whatever... you will only find out the HARD way,"
"Hmpth!" Kim only huffed loudly, getting ready to lift herself to the sky and I freaked out then, shaking Gwen fast as I whispered to her.
"C'mon! We have to move before they find us!"
"DITTO!" Gwen yelled back and I cupped her beak with my wing, whispering.
"SHH!"
"SORRY!" Gwen yelled in my wing and I looked at her annoyed as I removed my feathers from her beak, "Sorry..."
We waited for Kim to be out of sight before the two of us began our own ascent, but as we left the tree and were back in the blue sky, I caught eyes with Max and he watched us fly, a dangerous look in his expression.
Gwen and I continued our worried flight back towards the beach but because we were in such a hurry and not paying attention to what was ahead of us, we ended up bumping into a flock of seagulls.
"WATCH IT!" They all screamed at us in unionism.
"Sorry! Sorry!" I begged for forgiveness quickly and they only swooped around us, circling the two of us suddenly like we were dinner or something.
"You think you can mess with us?!" They yelled together and me and Gwen shook our heads instantly.
"No!" We yelped together.
"YOU THINK YOU CAN-!"
"HEY! LEAVE THEM ALONE!" I looked up ahead of us as Kim had seen the bad situation I and Gwen had gotten ourselves in and she dived to beside us, puffing her chest out as she yelled, "You mess with them! YOU MESS WITH ME!"
The gulls all seemed to move back when she threatened this, and they all turned to leave, uttering together.
"You're lucky, DUCKIES!"
Within a minute they had all left and Kim was fluttering there beside me and Gwen, saying in a heavy panting breath.
"You two okay?"
Gwen suddenly flew at Kim, hugging her around her stomach and crying in happy relieved tears.
"YOU SAVED US!"
Kim laughed nervously as Gwen hung around her tightly.
"You would've done the same for me," Is all she said, modestly and I flew closer to her, looking into her amazing eyes as she gazed back at me.
"I would've..." I told her honestly. I would do anything for Kim.
"Ah! There you are!"
The three of us looked behind as we saw Max come our direction, flapping his strong wings like he was the hero we needed but never asked for.
"Oh... hey, Max," Kim said coldly and Gwen let go of her, fluttering closer to Max.
"HEY, MAX! SUGAR DADDY!"
"Gwen!" I hissed at my sister and Max only laughed, saying in return.
"I've never been called THAT before,"
"Yeah," I said, snapping at Gwen to keep quiet, "SHE doesn't even know what it really means!"
"I think it means, that I will supply the candy."
I slapped my wing in my face in disbelief and humiliation, "No... no it does not."
"Would you two like to join us?" Kim asked me this suddenly and I looked at her, not getting what she was asking us now.
"Join what now?"
"WE," Max then said in a loud voice, flying over to Kim and placing his wing over her shoulder like she was his property or something, "Are having lunch now, FRESH FISH!"
"Mmm!" Gwen said, licking her beak, "I love sushi..."
"We'd LOVE to!" I finally answered for me and my sister.
"GREAT," Max said with a grating smile and nodded his head at Kim, who only rolled her eyes at his attitude.
He then took off from us, and Kim just smiled weakly at me, saying in a soft warm voice.
"Ignore him,"
"Gladly," I replied and she only giggled at this but Gwen nudged me in the gut with her wing as she proclaimed.
"Don't speak that way about my future sugar daddy!"
"YOU need to be educated in what THESE words mean!" I said to her and she only humpth at me defiantly.
"I hope that is just sarcasm!" She said and I rolled my eyes hard, replying.
"NO. That is a warning! PROTECTION!"
"Hmpth!" She only responded again to me and Kim looked at the two of us, asking in an almost shy voice.
"I'm guessing you two aren't getting along right now?"
"No," Gwen only said, closing her eyes hard and turning away from me, "He HATES me."
"Urth!" I groaned aloud and was about to respond when Max yelled from away.
"ARE YE THREE COMING OR WHAT?!"
Kim smiled sheepishly at me and nudged her head Max's way as she said, "I guess it's lunchtime,"
"Mmm," Gwen said again, licking her beak, "Sushi..."
I didn't say anything, only moaned in exasperation at everything that was going down right now.
I flew by Kim's side, Gwen trying to keep up as I asked my crush nervously.
"Does this guy Max... like you...?"
Kim only giggled at this and rolled her eyes smoothly, "Yeah... LIKE FOREVER."
"Oh," I peeped.
"But I prefer my ducks to be kind and funny, like you,"
"Like me?!" I peeped again and she only giggled once more, nodding her head.
"Believe me. I have ZERO feelings for that airhead."
"Uh huh,"
"GOOD!" Gwen called from behind and I looked at my little sister, myself feeling exhausted from all the drama of today, "Because HE is MINE!"
Kim only laughed, but my own laughter sounded worried and she looked at me confused as she asked.
"What's wrong, Dax?"
"You may THINK that Gwen is joking... but she's not,"
Kim cocked an eyebrow up lost as I whispered the scared words.
"May God have mercy on our souls,"
Little did I know, it wasn't Gwen I'd have to worry about as much anymore.
No.
It was Max...
My new nemesis.
My new mortal enemy...
