Chapter 64
(While at home enjoying a cup of coffee and sitting on the couch to relax, Elizabeth has a flashback to just before when her sons came to visit her at the hospital)
***Flashback***
Jason: "I still think it's too early to call Dante. You're still in the hospital, baby."
Liz: "I know, honey, but I'm going to have to talk to him sooner or later. I just want to get it over with."
Jason: "You have more will power than I do."
Liz: (chuckles) "I love you, too, honey. Okay, please call Dante so we can do this."
(Jason begrudgingly calls Dante so Elizabeth can give her statement to the police about when she was kidnapped. About a half hour after Jason makes the call, Dante arrives at Elizabeth's room. He knocks at the entrance before hearing a 'come in'. After Dante closes the door, he faces his target)
Dante: "Hi, Elizabeth."
Liz: (nods) "Hello, Dante."
Dante: "Jason tells me that you're ready to give your statement."
Liz: "Yes. He thinks it's too soon, but I just want it over with. I'm sure you understand."
Dante: (nods) "Yes, ma'am."
(Dante sits next to Elizabeth's bed on a chair. He pulls out a tape recorder and sets it on the tray next to Elizabeth's bed. He presses record and speaks)
Dante: "This is Detective Dante Falconeri. I'm about to get the victim, Elizabeth Baldwin's, statement about the day she was kidnapped and leading to when she was rescued. Elizabeth, whenever you're ready."
Liz: (sighs) "It was another ordinary day. I had to work that morning all day, from 8am until 5pm. After work, we were planning on having company overnight."
Dante: (nods) "Okay. Is that company related to your kidnapping?"
Liz: "It was Danny, who was staying over. We recently found out news that Sam was not happy with. Our only guess was that she wanted revenge because she doesn't like me and Danny considers me a mother figure."
Dante: "Elizabeth, would you say that you don't like Sam, either?"
Liz: "I feel 'don't like' or 'hate' is a strong word. I don't agree with Sam's choices and feel she doesn't put Danny first. She was threatened by my close relationship with Danny. I could be wrong on that. But that's how I took it."
Dante: (nods) "Gotcha."
Liz: "Anyways, I left home at 7:30am and parked in the basement parking lot like I always do. Just as I was getting out and getting my stuff out of my SUV, someone grabbed me from behind. They put their hands over my mouth so I couldn't scream. I tried to fight back as hard as I could. I immediately felt a piece of cloth covering my nose, though. I knew what that meant. It was only a matter of time before I was officially chloroformed. So, I did the only thing I could think of in that moment. Without my abductor noticing, I broke off the clasp of the chain of my necklace that Jason bought me, letting it fall to the floor."
Dante: (confused) "We never found that."
Jason: "That's because I retrieved it when I found out she was abducted. She left that clue for me."
Dante: (nods) "Okay. You do know that there could have been fingerprints or DNA on it."
Liz: (shakes her head) "No. Because from what I hear the kidnappers were being very careful."
Dante: "How would you know that?" (curiously)
Liz: (smirks) "A lady never gives up her sources."
(Jason can't help but smirk at his girl's sassiness. Dante just sighs as he knew he wasn't going to get anywhere with her on that topic, so he moved on)
Dante: "Moving on. Go on, Elizabeth."
Liz: "I woke up in a somewhat darkened room with a gag around my mouth. I couldn't really tell where I was until all the lights came on. Then the place looked a bit familiar. A guy approached me. He looked familiar as I've seen him before. He had salt and pepper hair with a pony tail and salt and a pepper mustache and beard."
Dante: "His name for the record, if you know him?"
Liz: "Cyrus Renault. I've seen him around town a few times and I think I remember Jason warning me to steer clear of him as he's dangerous."
Dante: "How long did he hold you captive, if you had to guess?"
Liz: "About a day and a half."
(Dante wrote a few things down before letting Elizabeth continue)
Liz: "We talked. He asked me if I knew who he was. I said yes…Cyrus Renault. He was curious what I heard about him. I said no good. I immediately asked if Sam had him kidnap me? He wondered why I thought that? I told him she gave too many hints and that I would pay for taking Jason away from her. He tried to deny it for a little while that it was Sam, but I knew it was her. He asked what I knew about Sam. I told him what I knew. I don't 'hate' anyone. I just don't agree with their choices. And Sam?" (chuckles dryly) "She doesn't have the best track record on making good choices. She has always accused me of stealing Jason from her. Even when I was in a relationship with someone else, I was friends with Jason. Jason and I always vowed that, no matter what, we'd remain friends. If for nothing else, for our son, Jake. Anyways, after everything I told Cyrus, he realized he was dead wrong about Sam. She was NOT the person he thought she was. I basically offered Cyrus a deal…he let me call Jason and for Jason to come rescue me right now, I will NOT turn against Cyrus." (nods) "Dante, I gave my word on that. Cyrus helped me out. Yes, he helped kidnap me. But he realized the error of his ways. I have to give him credit for that. Cyrus may be a bad guy to everyone else, but to me? He was kind and considerate, for the most part. Anyway, I called Jason and he came to rescue me."
Dante: "Sounds like Cyrus did you well in the end."
Liz: (nods) "Yes, he did. I'm sure he'll be prosecuted because he helped out Sam. For the record, though? He did his good deed in the end…unlike Sam…who is still trying to get me out of her life and Danny's life. I have NEVER done anything to Sam or hurt Danny. All I'm guilty of is being a mother figure to Danny. When Sam fails to do so."
Dante: (nods) "I have noticed or heard she seems to blame you for a lot of things going wrong in her life. Anyways, thank you for giving me your statement. I appreciate it. Now comes the question as I'm sure the DA is wondering. Do you want to press charges against Sam McCall?"
Liz: "Yes, I do. I know that Robert Scorpio is going to want to prosecute Cyrus Renault as he was technically Sam's accomplice. But, I know it was mostly Sam's idea."
Dante: "Do you want to press charges against Cyrus, if it were up to you?"
Liz: (shakes her head) "No, because he was nice to me. In the end, he knew what he did was wrong and he helped me out. He realized the error of his ways. It doesn't matter if it is my choice or not, though. The judge makes the final choice."
(Dante nods at both Jason and Elizabeth before leaving. Jason shakes his head at his girl)
Jason: "I thought he'd never leave."
Liz: (chuckles) "What I did had to be done, though."
Jason: "True. Unfortunately, as much as I hate to admit it, you make me see that things need to get done. What am I going to do with you, Webber?"
Liz: (smirks) "Love me?"
Jason: (nods) "For life."
(He gives her a kiss on the lips)
Liz: "Now, I need to talk to Diane about my statement and prepare for the trial."
(Diane goes to Elizabeth's hospital room. She rests her briefcase and coat on the counter in the back of the room)
Diane: "Hello, Elizabeth, sweetie. How are you doing today?"
Liz: (nods & smiles) "I'm okay now."
(Diane sits on the chair next to Elizabeth's bed. Even though Jason offered to stay, Elizabeth insisted he didn't need to and go check in with Sonny. Jason makes his exit)
Diane: (chuckles) "I can see Jason is worried about you."
Liz: "Ever since the whole kidnapping and Sam's involvement with it, he's a bit protective. I can't say that I blame him, though. We are finally together and Sam can't interfere."
Diane: (chuckles dryly) "And to think there was a time when I was rooting for Sam to be with Jason. Boy, those days are LONG gone."
Liz: (shrugs) "Sam fooled a lot of people. It happens, Diane. I don't blame you for that."
Diane: (smiles appreciatively) "Thank you. You two are good for each other. Don't ever let the other go."
Liz: (smiles) "Trust me. We don't plan on it."
Diane: "Now, I'm sure that you told Detective Falconeri about your kidnapping."
Liz: (nods) "Yes, ma'am."
Diane: "I want to hear your side of it. Before the kidnapping, during the kidnapping, and once you were rescued."
Liz: "I was scheduled to work Monday morning until about 6pm. After work. We were going to get Danny for the night and tell him the truth about Franco being his biological father. However, when Cyrus took me that morning, that plan was shot to hell."
Diane: "Did you ever see Sam during any of this, meaning while you were kidnapped?"
Liz: "No. But before I was kidnapped, Sam gave all sorts of hints that I was in her way and I needed to go. The last time Sam threatened me, Jason was there and cut Sam off before she could slap me."
Diane: "Just so you are aware, sweetie, both Scott and Robert will put you on the stand for questioning. However, based on the evidence DA Scorpio has and what you just told me and Dante, I don't think anyone can accuse you of lying. Scott might technically say you didn't actually see Sam during the kidnapping. BUT, Sam did make a lot of threats. Not to mention, she was on camera around the time of your kidnapping in scrubs and she briefly let her face show. Plus, there is a lot of damaging evidence against Sam." (winks) "I'll be shocked as hell if Sam gets away with it."
Liz: "Thank you for everything, Diane. Do I need to go over my testimony before the trial?"
Diane: "No. Just tell the truth and what you remember. You'll be fine."
(Elizabeth embraces her lawyer as well as friend)
Liz: "Thank you for all your guidance and help."
Diane: "You're very welcome."
***End of Flashback***
(Elizabeth sighs deeply as she can't wait until all of this is over)
