Chapter 67

DA Scorpio: "Elizabeth, what threats did Sam make against you? Or what did you count as threats?"

Liz: "Sam felt I was in the way of her and Jason being together. That I needed to accept the fact that Jason loved Sam, not me. When I wouldn't step aside, Sam pointed at me with Jason in the room and warned me, but I wouldn't listen. Now, I would pay."

Scott: "Objection, your honor!"

DA Scorpio: "How can Mr. Baldwin object when it's the truth that Miss Webber is stating?"

Judge Heller: "Overruled."

(Scott shook his head as he was getting nowhere)

Judge Heller: "DA Scorpio, call your next witness."

DA Scorpio: "Cyrus Renault, your honor."

Judge Heller: "Being it's the end of the day, court will convene tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Court is adjourned."

(Everyone sat up. Sam got up and looked at Scott)

Sam: "Why didn't you object more?"

Scott: (scoffs) "I couldn't! Elizabeth was telling the truth. You need to accept that. You and I are going back to my place so we can strategize." (to himself) "Is it worth it, though?"

(Sam and Scott leave the courthouse and head to his place. Meanwhile, Jason, Elizabeth, and the boys eat supper at Kelly's. They are all chatting when Alexis walks in to get a coffee to go. Alexis and Elizabeth make eye contact. Elizabeth excuses herself for a moment to talk to Alexis)

Liz: "Hi. How are you?"

Alexis: "Hello. I'm okay…considering everything."

Liz: "I'm sorry for what you're going through."

Alexis: "You have nothing to apologize for. My daughter is, unfortunately, screwed up. Instead of taking responsibility for her actions, she is blaming everyone else."

Liz: (sighs) "I never wanted it to come to this."

Alexis: "I know. Me, either." (smiles) "I wanted to thank you for allowing Danny into your family. I appreciate it."

Liz: (grins) "I am happy to do it. Danny and the boys are brothers, whether they're blood related or not. They love him and vice versa. I know biologically Franco is Danny's father. But we all agreed Jason would be his father and Franco would be another father figure and get to know him. I hope you are okay with that."

Alexis: (nods) "I'm perfectly fine with it."

(Alexis is caught off-guard when Elizabeth embraces her, but she graciously accepts it. After breaking free, Elizabeth speaks)

Liz: "You are nothing like Sam. You are always welcome in our lives."

Alexis: (smiles) "Thank you for saying that. I appreciate it."

(Alexis gets her coffee, pays for it, and walks out. Jason gets up from his chair and goes to his girl)

Jason: "I couldn't help but overhear that. I am so proud of you for that."

Liz: (shrugs & smiles) "It's the truth. Alexis is nothing like Sam. Neither is Kristina."

(Jason and Elizabeth kiss and enjoy the rest of their night)

***Day 2 of the Trial***

(Once again, Elizabeth, Jason, Alexis, and Terry are on DA Scorpio's side regarding the seating. No one is on Sam's side and she was actually surprised)

Judge Heller: "DA Scorpio, at the end of the day yesterday, you called Cyrus Renault."

DA Scorpio: "Yes, your honor. I call Cyrus Renault to the stand, please."

(After Cyrus sits behind the witness stand, DA Scorpio speaks)

DA Scorpio: "Mr. Renault, were you in charge of Elizabeth Webber's kidnapping? Or was it Sam McCall? Ms. McCall stated it was you when she gave her statement?"

Cyrus: "Sam was in charge and I was merely following orders. She approached me, asking me to kidnap Elizabeth…Baldwin… at the time."

DA Scorpio: "How'd you respond?"

Cyrus: "I was curious why Sam wanted me to kidnap Elizabeth."

DA Scorpio: "Sam's answer?"

Cyrus: "Because Sam hated 'Lizzie' as she calls her and wanted her out of the way so she could get Jason Morgan back."

DA Scorpio: "And what was your response?"

Cyrus: "I will kidnap Elizabeth if Sam sleeps with me as I am a lonely man. Sam agreed. At first, I also wanted payback against Jason Morgan. After a few days, that was no longer the case."

DA Scorpio: "Was there a cash payout involved?"

Cyrus: "No, there was not."

DA Scorpio: "Was there a recording of all of this?"

Cyrus: (smirks) "Yes, there was. I recorded it as an insurance policy. Sam didn't know about it."

Scott: "Objection! Unfair!"

DA Scorpio: "Cyrus was only protecting himself against Sam McCall."

Judge Heller: "I'll allow it."

DA Scorpio: "I enter the recording into evidence, your honor." (to Cyrus) "Miss Webber said you let her call Jason Morgan so she could be rescued after learning of Sam McCall's true intentions, correct?"

Cyrus: "Yes. I realized Sam was unhinged and Elizabeth was a good person."

DA Scorpio: "Thank you. No further questions, your honor."

Scott: "I do."

(Scott gets up and walks to Cyrus)

Scott: "You technically recorded a private conversation between you and Sam, didn't you?"

Cyrus: "I needed an insurance policy incase Sam turned on me, which she did."

Scott: (shrugs) "How'd she turn on you? Because didn't you technically kidnap Miss Webber? Not Sam?"

Cyrus: "Mr. Baldwin, if you listen to the recording, it clearly states that she asked me to do it."

(Scott waves Cyrus away as there were no fighting Cyrus' words. How could Scott argue it? Really? Scott knew he was losing the case. He knew from the very beginning he probably would)

(DA Scorpio enters a video tape into evidence which shows a minute of Sam, with her mask down, and Cyrus, with his mask on, talking in the elevator with a laundry cart full of towels)

DA Scorpio: "I know there's no proof that Elizabeth is in the cart. But it clearly shows Sam mask free with Cyrus and his pony tail underneath with a mask on. Sam had the means and the motive to kidnap Elizabeth. I also incorporate a statement from Monica Quartermaine, Chief-of-Staff, at General Hospital. It's information in regards to the underground sub-laboratory."

(The judge accepts the evidence and then announces that court is convened for lunch. Court will resume in one hour. Sam stands up and faces Scott)

Sam: "Put me on the stand so I can tell my side of the story."

(Scott's eyes widen in shock)

Scott: "Are you out of your damn mind?! Not on your life unless you for sure want to lose…more than we already are. You had an outburst already. I know you'll have another one if I put you on the witness stand."

(Sam briefly looks down before facing Scott)

Sam: "I know you're right. I wish we'd win, though."

(Scott mumbles under his breath out of earshot)

Scott: (mumbles) "Maybe you shouldn't have had Elizabeth kidnapped then."

***Outside the Courtroom***

Terry: "We miss you at the hospital, Biz."

Liz: "I know. I miss you all, too."

Terry: "Monica told me to tell you to take care of yourself regarding the trial. When it's concluded, you'll know when you're ready to return."

(The best friends hug. Everyone goes to have lunch. An hour later, court is resumed)

Judge Heller: "DA Scorpio, do you have any more witnesses?"

DA Scorpio: "No, your honor."

Judge Heller: "Mr. Baldwin, do you have any more witnesses?"

Scott: "No, your honor."

Judge Heller: "The jury will decide on a verdict for Sam McCall. You will be informed when the verdict is in. Until then, we are adjourned for the day."

***About Three Hours Later***

(Everyone is shocked when they are asked to come back so soon. Diane Miller had informed Jason and Elizabeth and Scott told Sam. This time, Diane Miller sat with Elizabeth and Jason and came to the trial to hear the verdict. She wanted to be there for her client. Everyone sat down as the judge sat in her chair and the jury came into the room)

Judge Heller: "Court is in session. Has the jury reached a verdict?"

(A member of the jury at the end stands up)

Juror: "We have, your honor."

(The bailiff gives the judge the verdict for her to see and then back at the juror)

Judge Heller: "How do you find the defendant?"

Juror: "We, the jury, find the defendant, Sam McCall…"
