Earlier, Robotnik had teleported himself to the Space Colony ARK. Once a bustling research station sanctioned by the Columbian government, it had sat dormant for the past fifty years, but with the Doctor's intervention, it would once again come to life. A few minutes after entering the station, he came to a central control room with a large monitor and control panel on a circular platform surrounding a core of some sort, but he was surprised to see a familiar face here before him…
"I've been waiting for you, Doctor," said Shadow. "Now, I will show the glorious achievement of what the world's leading scientist, Professor Gerald Robotnik, has created." He pressed a few buttons and keys on the control panel. "The ARK was the first space colony created by mankind. Not many people know that the ARK contained a top-secret research facility where weapons of mass destruction were being created. This is one of them: a weapon capable of destroying an entire planet, codenamed…the Eclipse Cannon."
"Destroying an entire planet?" Robotnik's eyes widened. "No…but…this couldn't have been my grandfather's legacy! Even I would never be this cruel!"
"It's been deactivated for some time now."
Shadow took the green Chaos Emerald and threw it at a perfectly-sized indent in the central core, thereby granting power to the Eclipse Cannon.
"To reactivate it, large amounts of energy are necessary," said Shadow.
The core gave off a greenish glow as the Emerald's power coursed through it.
"Oh, so that's why you requested the Chaos Emerald!" said Robotnik.
Shadow nodded. "Exactly. To reactivate the machine, we need the seven Chaos Emeralds. Once you have that, then you have the ultimate power of destruction to use as you please. And then…the world could be yours."
Robotnik shook his head. "No! As much as I desire world domination, I simply could not resort to planetary destruction in order to achieve this aim! You overestimate my cruelty, Shadow!"
Shadow crossed his arms. "And you underestimate the cruelty of your dear grandfather, Doctor. If you don't bring me the Chaos Emeralds, then I'll have no choice but to kill you and retrieve the Emeralds myself, at which point I will destroy the damn planet anyways."
Robotnik sweated as he smiled nervously. "Although on second thought, having had my plans thwarted three times thus far, that does sound like an appetizing plan! I like the way you think, Shadow! I will get the Chaos Emeralds, use the machine to dominate the world and build a legacy of my own!" He let out one of his trademark evil laughs.
"Do you really think it'll be that easy?" asked a mysterious female voice.
Robotnik and Shadow turned around to see who'd addressed them: hanging on the ceiling of the control room was a white-furred vampire bat with orangeish-tan skin and aqua green eyes with powder-blue eyeshadow. She wore a magenta long-sleeve T-shirt with a large pink heart on the front and exposed shoulders, white opera gloves with pink cuffs, black leggings and white thigh-high high-heel leather boots with pink cuffs and pink, heart-shaped steel toecaps. She flew down to the walkway where Robotnik was.
"I've got a great idea: how about making a deal?" said the bat.
"A deal?" said Robotnik.
"When you grabbed that huge Emerald, you said something about a reaction, a reaction that it may have with the Master Emerald. Now, if you could just let me borrow that radar, I may be able to help you. Sound good, honey?"
Robotnik put his index finger up to his cheek. "If I do, what's in it for me?"
"I have an idea of where the other Chaos Emeralds are." The bat flew up in the air a few feet. "I may not look like it, but I'm one of the world's top treasure hunters!" She whipped out the Blue Chaos Emerald.
Robotnik and Shadow eyed the bat curiously. In particular, Shadow's Hedgehog Sense was tingling. He believed what she said about the Emeralds, especially considering that she produced another one of them right before their eyes., but on the other hand, he also knew that there was something she wasn't telling them, something that made him suspect her. Robotnik, however, had no such reservations:
"Very well."
"Then it's a deal!" The bat gave a thumbs up. "By the way, allow me to introduce myself: I'm Rouge the Bat, but you can call me Rouge!"
Later on, Sonic and Tails were preparing to take a flight to where Robotnik was last seen when Sonic's Hedgehog Sense tingled.
"Tails, look at that!"
Sonic pointed at a TV in an electronics store display, which was broadcasting a message from an all-too-familiar face…
"Citizens of Aigess, lend me your ears! My name is Dr. Ivo Robotnik, but you may also call me 'Dr. Eggman', and I've come to make an announcement: Sonic the Hedgehog is a pestilent rodent who sent my greatest plans down the drain! That's right, he took plans that I worked on for years, and he crushed my dreams! However, that changes today! As the world's greatest scientist and soon to be its greatest ruler, I command you all to bow down before me! Should any of you defy me, then I will give you a taste of my power!"
Suddenly, the TV cut to a feed of the White House getting shot by a giant laser and exploding in an equally gigantic fireball. People who witnessed the display reacted with shock, whether by gasping really loud, running around waving their arms about or just screaming like banshees. Then, the TV showed Robotnik again, this time laughing evilly:
"I fooled you all! That was merely footage from the world-famous blockbuster Independence Day! However, the real thing will be much worse unless you accede to my rule! You have 24 hours to make a decision! That is all."
The TV resumed its usual broadcast.
"Man, that sucka never gives up!" said Sonic.
"But how would he harness all that energy?" asked Tails.
Sonic stroked his chin. "No doubt he got his hands on some more Chaos Emeralds. We gotta get the rest of those stones!"
"There's the fugitives! GET THEM!"
Sonic and Tails turned around and saw a couple of police officers heading for them.
"Come on, let's race, Ace!" said Sonic.
Sonic and Tails made a hasty exit.
Criticism is gold. Negativity and nitpicking are pyrite.
