The Accident

Alex

"Are we there yet" I asked my Mom for probably the fortieth time. "No, and for the last time stop asking. My mom said glancing at me in the back seat of the small car.

My older brother Sam Smirked.

He didn't seem to care that it was past midnight and we were still not home.

We had been driving way too long, the road to La-Push was empty but for us.

I glanced out the window tied, we were passing by the Ocean, my favourite place. It looked dark and ominous at night, it was so pretty.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when I saw something zip past my window. "What!" Sam said noticing my expression. "There was something out-" I started to say when suddenly faster than I could comprehend the same dark shape smashed into the other side of the car.

I closed my eyes as we were sent flying, and in all the chaos I felt myself get yanked out of the car. When I opened my eyes I found myself staring into a pair of hungry looking red eyes 'vampires' my brain said and I froze.

Two things happened at once the vampire dug her fangs into my neck. And I was suddenly sent flying over the guardrails and into the freezing cold ocean.

I tried not to breathe in, but the spot where I was bit hurt like fire. My lungs burned as I sank deeper and deeper into the sightless depths of the ocean.

Soon I couldn't tell up from down, my vision started to fade and my lungs finally burst, the little air I had left was gone and I was about to die. 'I'm sorry Mom I'm sorry Sam I wish I could say goodbye" I thought my eyes now burned trying to stay open.

Right before my eyes closed I saw something or felt something, there was a blinding blue flash of light and I felt my body touching something. Then everything went black.

Sam

My head hurts from the car flipping so much.

When we finally stopped I saw someone that I will never forget. There was my sister my 16 year old baby sister, and she was being held by the shirt by a vampire.

I saw my sisters eyes open and sometimes flashed across her face before the vampire sunk there teeth into my sister's soft skin, I barely took in the seen before my sister suddenly went flying over the cliff edge put I did see blood on her neck and in a few other places. Then she was gone and I vowed that I would find her and get revenge on the leech who did that.

Present Day June 10th Alexis formerly known as Alex

I was startled awake by an alarm. Wait there were no alarms underwater. I sat up and pulled my Kelp sheets of me. What was I late for again. Oh shit School. I was a late Mermaid. I honestly don't know why I even bothered going to school. It wasn't like I could get a job considering that I was a Mermaid. And I was physically unable to go on land and breathe air for more than four and a half hours, even that was stretching it.

Ok so basically four months ago something happened to me that made me this way. Instead of drowning, I had become a mermaid, at first I thought it was a gift I could become a mermaid by submerging my self in water and letting all the air in my lungs out.

I had a beautiful tail that faded from blue scales to a sea green colour the same as my new eyes, I also had three smallish slits on either side of my rib cage that acted as gills.

I even got a cool blue scaled bikini like top piece.

But when I realized that it hurts to breathe air when I got too far from a big body of water, my happiness lessened, and when I realized that I could die if I breathed air too long I felt like it was a curse. A curse to be a Beautiful mermaid that lives underwater.

When I realized that my mom was dead I was devastated and would barely do anything for a month. I was also supposedly dead though I felt sad and relieved, at least I wouldn't have to explain to my brother that I had to live underwater for the rest of my life.

So I did something I never thought I would do I forged a false identity, gone was Alexandra Miria Uley, my new name was Alexis Mira Evergreen.

I also decided that for some reason I needed to go to school and get an education but not wanting to move to far away from my family, I enrolled myself at Forks high school, and for some reason nobody recognized me, I mean I did look a bit different, my hair was growing unusually fast and all of my bleached blonde hair was gone within a month of me being a mermaid leaving it my natural Auburn colour, and my eyes had changed too, my once Blue eyes had become an amazing sea green colour that I now loved.

I also had powers Fire, water, and electricity.

Fire was the strongest I could use it to make things warm or to start a fire. Water was fun I could control it shape it.. electricity was basically lightning. I could almost make it rain.

I am a mermaid so when I get wet and empty my lungs of air and let my gills filter the water in I transform, to become human again my head has to at least be above the water and I have to say "I wish to be human" I don't know why I just discovered it on day or I can pull myself out of the water and dry of completely.

I had seen the news papers and knew that they would never find my body, hell I even went to the burial, I mean I watched from my spot behind a rock, my tombstone was bye the ocean just were I would want It.

There were people there that I didn't know and, then there was Sam, Emily his Fiancée and my boyfriend of two weeks Jacob, they all cried a lot and it broke my heart, but I knew that if I revealed myself I would break there hearts more every time I had to leave. And that one of those times someone would happen and I wouldn't be able to leave before I died. And then their hearts would break again.

Alexis

Skipping school wasn't something that I regularly did but I didn't feel like seeing, Bella and the rest of the Cullen's, I am surprised I still hang out with them they are vampires after all.

But deep down I don't blame vampires for my life problems, It gave me a chance to have a cool life with new friends, that are special like me.

I know that the Cullens and Sam along with some of the boys on the Rez have a problem with each other meaning that I won't have to worry about them recognizing me.

The Cullens know that I am keeping a secret from them and it is driving Edward mad, because he can't read my mind.

I think that I am going to tell the Cullens soon though, I mean it would be smart to have someone know in case I ever need help, special help.

June 30th

Alexis

"School is out" I shouted in glee punching my fist into the air. I had managed to finish the school year, my marks were all above 75. And my secret was still a secret. I should be celebrating.

"Alexis?" someone's familiar voice said from beside me. I turned to look "oh hi Alice" I said still in an excellent mood.

"We we're going to celebrate the end of school tonight at our house and guess what, you're coming" Alice made her point clear by puking me into Edwards shiny Volvo.

I checked my watch, I still had an hour before I would start dying. I think that today i the day to tell them that I am a mermaid, they are vampires they'll understand.

…

I was fidgeting by the time we got the the Cullens mansion. I had a less than half an hour at the most left before I had to return to the sea. I groaned internally, why can't I just have one normal night of no near death.

…

They all sat in front of me, I didn't know what to say though, 'hey guess what my real name in Alex Uley I'm a mermaid and I am by law dead' nope.

"Ok so I'm- I- Im A Mermaid" I blurted out

They all stared at me. Emmet was the first to speak. "Mermaid's have tails, so where is yours?"

He clearly meant it as a joke but I took it as a challenge, "follow me" I said grinning as I headed out the door.

Alice

The walk to the Ocean was slow and quiet, I wanted to say something but my eyes were on Alexis, mermaid! I was confused. First vampires then werewolves and now Mermaids, what the Hell.

When i just started to hear the distant sound of the waves. Alexis suddenly clutched her throat her face pale almost as pale as me. I noticed something on her neck were those Bite marks, only they didn't look new.

I was snapped from my neck reverie when I saw Carlisle kneeling in front of Alexis she looked like she couldn't get air into her lungs.

I saw her trying to speak "the ocean" she choked out her voice only Audible to our vampire hearing.

With those words Carlisle picked her up and disappeared in the direction of the ocean.

Jacob

I sat in-front of my imprints grave, it was so calm and peaceful, I was about to get up when a horrible pain in my throat and lungs made it impossible to move. It was so like the pain I had experienced the night of her death, as well as a few other times. This time through it was much worse I felt like I was dying.

Alexis

I was going to dye, but the moment I felt Carlisle place me in the ocean I used the rest of my strength to pull myself under the water and I gulped down water, my lungs slowly stopped burning and I felt my tail appear. I knew the others would be watching and waiting.

But I need to go deeper the water up here was not the same and I needed to be strong if I wanted to go to the surface so soon.

I swam down distantly someone called my fake name. But I wasn't ready yet.

Alexis

It was midnight when I returned to the mansion, I was wearing my sea garb a beautiful sea green dress that was airy and left little to the imagination, it always appeared when I came out of the ocean.

Alice's eyes lit up when she saw the dress. "where did you get that dress?" Alice clearly was jealous. I smirked "mermaid magic" I said mysteriously.

Alice frowned. "Um hello this isn't what we are here to discuss" Edward said breaking the smile on my lips.

"Ok so I'm a mermaid I live underwater becau-" I was cut of by Emmet "you live underwater that's so cool, how long can you breath underwater?"

"Well I said that's just it the question you should be asking is asking is how long I can breathe air" I tried to sound brave but I knew I failed, when they saw my expression and realized what I had said the all liked shocked.

Surprisingly Bella spoke first speaking a question no one else wanted to truly know "how long can you breathe air?" she said voice steady.

" I can live without the sea for approximately 4 hours, then I must return to the ocean, depending on how much time I spend on solid ground" when I finished it felt like a big weight was lifted of my shoulders and I felt lighter.

Nobody spoke but they looked sad " I don't want pity!" I said angry.

Jasper started to speak but I gut up and walked out the door before sprinting to the ocean.

I needed some me time.

July 1st

Alexis

"I miss you" I said to the gravestone. It was my mother's tomb right beside mine and one of the only places I could escape the crazy life I had.

"I love you Mom I miss you so much I almost wish I did actually die just so I could escape all this" I motioned at myself. The Gil's on my neck that never disappeared human or mermaid, I also motioned at my ankles which each had a small almost unnoticeable pattern of scales on them.

" I bet if you we're here you'd understand and know what to do" I sighed

I decided that I was done being sad and miserable for today and settled against a tree to watch the sun rise.

Jacob

"I miss you a female voice said and I could tell bye her heart beat that she was in front of Alex's mom's grave. That was weird.

As I payed the mistery girl more and more attention I noticed things. Her voice was so similar to Alex's but this girl sounded more grown up.

I waited to see if she would leave, who would come to a grave so early in the morning, I slowly and quietly tried to get a better view of the Girl at the grave.

"I love you Mom I miss you so much I almost wish I did actually die just so I could escape all this" the girl was saying as I finally got a good look at her.

I froze seeing her before hearing her.

The Girl in-front of me looked like a older version of Alex, and I knew this without seeing her eyes, her hair had grown out and was it's natural colour, her skin was slightly paler than it was before.

She looked like she had been working out, her smell was slightly different but I didn't pay any attention to that, I only wanted to stare into her gorgeous blue eyes.

She was still staring at the ground in front of the grave, she was wearing some sort of bikini top and I sucked in a breath when I saw something on her neck, bite marks.

She Heard me and her eyes flashed up. They were a striking Sea green that you could easily get lost in.

She was Alex but also not.

Alexis

There was someone here I didn't know were but I didn't care, I jumped up and took of in a run towards the water. I ran fast and didn't stop when I got to the water I dove straight in and headed deep before opening my mouth.

I felt all of the air wosh out my lungs and I let the water take its place, I at once felt my senses sharpen.

My legs started tingling, before feeling lighter, I was home.

Jacob

I didn't see her leave I was too lost in my thoughts about what I had seen and heard. Was she a vampire, she couldn't be her eyes weren't golden or red, her skin didn't sparkle. Though now that I thought about it her skin did almost seem to glow.

It had to be Alex Mrs. Uley had only had one daughter. Alex.

But Alex was dead and had been for five and a half months. But they never found her body.

Bye the time I came to the conclusion that I would go see Sam She had disappeared. I smelled the differences in her sent. She smelled like the ocean and the Cullens.
