(Itta)
Looking at the letter, I read the news about the success of creating the cure. It also says a drop-off location where someone will hand me multiple cures to rid people of their essence. As well as a cure for Francisca's disease, well more of a step-by-step situation to help her get cured. Upon reading the location of the drop-off, I burned the letter and began making my way. Only when I leave a notice of my absence. And give Francisca her daily medication.
(Later)
"They really let this place get the worst of it all. No wonder they want to raid this city first." The location of the drop-off was the slums; why, I have no clue. If anything, it makes me look more suspicious. I'll give them an earful later. But during my walk, I heard someone calling my name. Confused as to who would know my name in these slums, I turn to face who's calling me.
"Elt?" I let out a small chuckle as I saw him stop before me. "It is little Elt. Well, maybe not so little anymore." The boy before me blushed a bit before speaking.
"It's nice to see you again, Ms. Itta. I was surprised to meet you again. Especially here of all places. Did you get fired as head maid?" Looking worried at the last question.
"With how lazy those snobs are, they'll never fire me." His eyes widened slightly at my pronunciation of the nobles, but he smiled nonetheless.
"That's good to hear. How's Francisca?" I couldn't help but smile at him. Despite all these years, he still remembers her.
"You still remember her. I'm glad, but to answer your question, she's fine. A bit lonely, but with me around most of the time, she's never been better."
"And her... You know, health?" Frowning, I let out a sigh before telling him.
"Because of me again, her health is that bad. But still enough about that, what about you. What have you done all these years?"
"Oh, right!" He basically beamed at being able to tell me what he's done all these years. "I've joined the guard to help protect people! I'm not good, but I'll only get better."
"Atta boy. The path to success is paved with failure, after all. Well, failure as well, but we gotta make mistakes to get better."
"Yeah, but what are you doing here, Ms. Itta? This place ain't for a palace maid. Especially head maid." Looking around, I got closer and whispered to him.
"Wanna know a secret?" He looked surprised a bit, but he nodded nevertheless. "My brothers and sisters have found a cure to make everyone here immune to being corrupted into a monster."
"THATS-" I instantly covered his mouth before he said anything else. I then moved us to a place where we wouldn't be heard, even if he did yell out in shock.
"Secret, remember."
"Sorry," He said more calmly, "But that's amazing, Ms. Itta. How did they do it?"
"Dunno; I'm only good at math and physical labor, not the complex biological sciences." At that, he looked confused. "Eh, forget about it. We won't understand it."
"Why haven't you told anyone else about this, Ms. Itta?" Questioned Elt. I answered, looking around to make sure we truly were alone.
"People will be desperate about this and cause riots. Right now, we are preparing to mass produce. But, we must also keep this as a surprise for the Mamono. If they hear about this, they'll hunt for my Brothers and sisters early." At that, he nodded.
"Ok, so where are you gonna get this cure?"
"Follow me, and we'll cure you there now." Grabbing his hand, I began to guide him to the drop-off.
(Later)
"Itta! Who's the boy?"
"Hea, this is Elt. He can be trusted, so don't worry." He turns her head towards Elt, who shies away at her examining stare.
"Sup."
"Uh... Hey."
"Oh, a shy one." Causing him to blush.
"Hea, the cures." snapping her out of her teasing.
"Huh, oh right. We can only spare 30 of the cures at the moment. Unless you want the kid here to get one right now?"
"Please, if you wouldn't mind."
"Well, we gotta wait for Ellis. He's the one who's gotta teach you how to apply."
"very well, I can wait. What about you, Elt?" He paused for a bit before answering.
"Oh, no. I'm free all day today, so I can also wait." Smiling at me, I nodded and looked back at Hea.
"Anything else we need to know, Hea?"
"Hm... hey kid, are you scared of needles?"
"Huh?"
(?)
"How did you get used to losing people you love?"
"I didn't, and I never will. With my immortal and fateless soul, I have no choice but to keep moving forward. Even though I feel held back, I have to keep going. I can take a break occasionally, but eventually, I must take that next step."
"... The more you explain these, the less I'm persuaded to your cause."
"You're scared. I get it. I once was, too."
"But if you indulge in this, you'll understand and join us. Maybe even find happiness."
A chuckle would be heard. "This drowning of lust ain't living, little Lilim. When we cling too tightly to life, we end up living in fear and anxiety, always worried about losing what we have. But when we accept that everything is temporary, we can find peace in the present moment and live our lives to the fullest. But choosing this, there's nothing. You go blind and blame the wrong things when things go wrong. Nothing lasts forever, child, not even this, not my children, and hopefully not even me."
"Why? Why are you so adamant about this? Why can't you let me live in this LIE!"
"Because a beautiful lie is just that. A lie, nothing you do, would mean nothing. While the truth is ugly and harsh, at least it's true. I know you fear death; I know you want to live life without suffering. But it's a necessary part of life. By embracing this reality, you can learn to appreciate and savor your moments and strive for authenticity in all aspects of life. This can lead to a greater sense of fulfillment and a deeper appreciation for the beauty and meaning of life."
Lilim would be weeping as she heard this. She hates this truth but has no choice but to accept it. Even if this world does get fully converted into a mamono realm, there will soon be a decrease in males. Ultimately, her mother's cause will lead to this world's doom. "I hate you."
"Do you hate me? Or do you hate I'm right?"
She wouldn't respond but continued to silently weep. She would soon be embraced by the immortal stranger, and she would hug him back.
(Kellion)
"What happened here?" I said to myself. I was walking through a burning village filled with corpses of both humans and mamono. I only found this because Betty smelt something and began to run to it. She was searching around the burned houses, hoping to find someone. I, too, helped by searching the other houses. One by one, I only found slaughtered families or burnt people. Until I heard whining noises from Betty. "What'd you fine girl?"
"Mastah, I smell people here!" I cringe at that; damn girl, what did I just say about calling me master! Ignoring that, I let her lead me to the place she was talking about. I entered what looked to be a town hall.
"Go girl, show me where?" At that, Betty entered and began sniffing around before waving over to me. Getting closer, Betty pointed to the rug on the floor. Moving out of the way, I saw a hatch leading somewhere. I tried to open it, but it was locked from the inside. So, having no choice, I used my strength and forced it open anyway. But doing that, I heard panicked yelps from inside and what sounded like children crying. Slowly, I went down and landed on the floor of the basement. Lighting my hand on fire with my magic, I lit the area. I let out a small gasp of surprise; in front of me were tons of children. Both human and mamono. Soon, Betty entered, too, but she had a more audible and physical reaction as she covered her mouth at the scene.
Knowing I had to take action, I kneeled and softly spoke to the children. "Hey there, little ones. You don't have to be afraid. I ain't gonna hurt you." But they only huddled closer to each other and tried to scoot further into the dark basement. "It's ok, it's ok. Look, how about I introduce myself. I'm Kell, and this is Betty, my companion and friend. What're your names?"
At that, a few kids said their names, but they still had a small amount of fear. "Look, I'm not gonna hurt none of y'all. I wanna help. I know a place where you'll be taken care of. Please, you have nothing to fear." As I extended my hand outward to them. Slowly but surely, some kids began to get closer and huddle over to me and Betty as we embraced them. Soon, we led them out of the town hall, and I began to guide them to the base.
(Yondu)
"Oh hey, Kellion. Woah, that's a lot of kids." Noticing the large number of children following behind him.
"I know. Have you recently gone hunting so that we can feed these kids?"
"Thankfully, I have."
-Entree-
[Mandragora]
From what I heard from Yondu, these Mamano screams suck. Especially if you're immune to its effect. But thankfully, they're easy to kill with a knife in the eye. Or if you don't have one, just use your thumbs to do and reach their brain to kill them like that. That's how Yondu did with the first one. *Do note they will scream more.* Either way, their meat has the texture of a carrot, but they have an earthy, mushroomy taste. They tasted good in a pot and cooked in skewers.
[Roots]
Mother fuckers are sweet to suck on. When boiled, it's like sweet potatoes.
[Others]
Sadly, since these things are mostly plant-based, they don't have many organs besides their wombs. Which doesn't taste good for me, at least. But you can still go for them if you want.
[Mothman]
Their meat has a weird but welcome taste. It's a mix between lamb and beef. But with a perfect blend with each other. Their powder is problematic, but we quickly found a way around them. If you want to be unaffected by their power, whether inhaled or consumed, eat some cured mandragora roots or beer. Please don't ask why beer works. I have no fucking clue why.
[Heart]
Mothman hearts contain an anti-depressant in them. Why? I have no clue. But hey, at least you'll feel upbeat when you eat their hearts... I think.
[Eyes]
They're like escargot if you know what that is. Or you can deep-fry them and eat the jello in the eyes.
[Kidneys]
Great source of vitamins, but with a huge taste of iron. But still, if you mix the organ well with other food types, you'll barely taste it.
[Other]
Either too fatty or too tough to eat properly.
Devlin the bandit: For the cure I decided to make essence like a drug that all living being became addicted to that they now need it to survive. As for the Lilim they'll have plans for her in certain ways. (Plus the Lilim mention in this one isn't the same one in last chapter.)
