The next event was in Kyiv, and the travelling members of the club were on the long haul flight to Ukraine. With her current attitude though, everyone was avoiding Rio, which seemed to be perfectly fine by her, as she sat quietly with earphones in. That was, apart from Maddy, who made a point of sitting behind her, and while the plane was in transit, with most everyone else sleeping, she tapped the Idahoan on the shoulder, causing her to pause her music and slip an earphone out.
'Someone wants to talk to me then.' 'I just want to say I know what's going on with you and your brother.' She rolled her eyes in response. 'I don't need Jana judging me, it's my life and my decision.' What Maddy said next surprised her though. 'I told Jana to back the hell off. All I know is you've been talking to him, and that I trust you. Not to do what's right for the club, or for me, or for Jana, but I trust you to do what you think is right for you.'
'That's the thing - I don't know what's "right for me". Because it's never been about what's right for me, it's always been me being roped into everything.' 'I guess it just comes down to where you see your future. Because I can tell you for a fact that nobody that matters here will think any worse of you for making that call. So don't think of anyone else, you make your decision for you.' This gave Rio a lot to think about, as she whispered 'Thank you', before putting the earphone back in.
At the back of the plane, Kenzie and Denzil were enjoying chatting with Freja. 'So like, they got all your memories back, and you still ain't speaking to her?' 'No, she's not until she starts being nice to Belle, we're not talking, that's what I told her, and I'm sticking to it. I'm sick of being taken advantage of.' 'But you forgrave Belle?' 'Difference is, Belle's been trying to get on with her. And getting on stops her apologising. It's helped with preparing for our duel though.' 'Didn't you have new gear for that?' Freja grinned at the question. 'Yep, it came through yesterday, it's gorgeous.' 'Can you show us?' Kenzie asked excitedly, missing one very obvious fact. 'It's in Belle's bag, in the cargo hold. You'll be shocked though, it looks amazing.'
Several days before
The day after her memories were restored, Freja was outside Katie's shop in Kendal alongside Belle. As they walked in, she turned around, ponytail swinging behind her. 'Hey, Phil said you'd be coming down. I'm surprised he didn't take the opportunity to come down here.' Freja grinned as she said that, and got up a picture on her phone of Phil and Hannah with Skylar. 'Oh my god, she finally popped!' 'That's why he's not here, and why he's not going to be at the next event with us. But we needed some duelling gear doing?' 'Yeah, totally.' She then pulled up a plain piece of paper. 'Right, tell me the kind of things you want on there, and I can get on with making a plan for the design.'
As she said this, the two started talking over each other, trying to get all their bountiful ideas on the table, while a shocked Katie took a step back. After this though, she took the pen out of her hair, and started listening closely to the cacophony of noise, and started jotting down words and themes that seemed to be coming up multiple times. By the time the two had finished talking over each other, she had a list of words that had come up.
'Right, I think I've got some things you're after. So the words I kept hearing were "Graffiti", "Edgy", "Underground", "Gangland" and "Rap-style". Does that sort of sum up what you're after?' Belle nodded enthusiastically. 'Yeah, but also we want them to sort of look like jogging trousers, and we almost want sort of a grunge feel.' 'Yeah, we want them to feel almost dirty and raw.' This appeared to perk up Katie's imagination, and she jotted down some more notes, before picking her pad up. 'Right, I think I know what I want to do. Are you doing anything right now?' They looked at each other, and replied with 'Nope.' 'Well there's a retail park about five minutes' walk from here, and there's a couple of fast food places there. If you want to go there for a while, I can have some plans drawn up in just about an hour? I'll give you a ring anyway when I'm ready.' 'Plans? That sounds big…' Freja mumbled, but Katie wasn't concerned. 'It's fine, just so we can confirm that you're happy with the design before I make it.' 'Oh, sure.'
A couple of hours later, they returned to find that Katie wasn't there. So after some patient waiting (for all of two minutes), Freja shouted around the corner. 'Katie, you here?' After several more minutes of calling, Katie emerged, carrying a couple of pieces of paper. 'You could have just waited for me, I was just finishing another order.' 'Oh, sorry.' 'It's fine, we've got a couple of big orders so obviously I'm on the phone a lot. So I had a lot of ideas, and I think I managed to put them into a plan.' As she laid out the drawings, both girls looked significantly excited at the plans. 'That looks amazing.' Belle then looked at Freja and smiled. 'It feels like we're a proper team now.'
As the excitement grew, Katie tried to organise the production. 'When do you fly out to Ukraine?' 'Four days. I know it's a bit tight' 'That's more than enough time, I'll probably need a day and a half, two at a push.' 'So you can do it?' Freja posed anxiously. 'Easy' Katie responded. 'Just need to take a phone number so I can contact you. If I can't get hold of you then I'll phone the base.' As Freja passed on her details, Katie had one more warning. 'Oh, and if you see Phil, let him know that from next Monday he won't be able to get hold of me - I'm closing up the shop while I go back home to Malta for a couple of weeks. So if you could pass on the message, that would be appreciated.' 'Yeah, no problem.'
Three days later
Having got the call, Freja and Belle returned to Kendal, this time using Jana's Primal Eolas. 'Thanks for bringing us here.' 'No problem, I'm gonna stick with you if I don't mind, gives me a break from teaching Jade not to warp on top of a random roof.' As they all laughed, they entered the shop, but found Katie on the phone. 'You know you'll have to bring him down here when I'm back from holiday, right? I know, but it'll do you some good to get out of the house. Trust me, you won't be thinking that in a couple of weeks. Yeah, they've just arrived, so I'll speak soon, you get to feeding the lord. Yeah ok, bye.'
As she put the phone down, she greeted her customers. 'Hey, sorry about that, Hannah needed a good natter, escape from Phil and Astrid's baby talk. So, you're here about your gear?' 'Yep.' 'I'll go and get it.' 'So you got it done?' 'Yeah, it took a little longer because my fabric printer isn't working so I had to nip down to a commercial place in Liverpool. But it's all sorted.' 'Thank you.' She then went to the back cupboard, and picked out two fabric bags. 'Now I did have to make one or two slight alterations, mainly around the exact colour because I don't have my normal printing machine working.'
As soon as the bags were slid down, Belle and Lydia's eyes lit up. The outfits, consisting of Cuban collar shirts and high-waisted jogging-style trousers, in a washed-out dirty grey, with their names and the words "Renegades" and "Dynasty" on the trousers, were beyond their wildest dreams. As they stared in amazement, Katie laughed. 'I'll take it you like them. By the way, don't worry about payment, Maddy's already sorted it with me.' 'Awesome, thank you.' 'You're welcome. Now just make sure not to wear them for 48 hours, just to let the stitching set.' 'Absolutely, thank you again.' 'Here, I'll put them back into the bag for you. If there are any issues, bring them back to me and I'll see what I can do.' 'Sure thing' Belle responded gratefully, as they turned and left.
In Ukraine
After departing the plane, the club members walked through the airport, but as they exited, Nash was waiting for them. Immediately Freja and Belle lunged for battle, only for Maddy to surprisingly hold them back. 'No, not now.' Seeing the confusion, he smirked. 'You should just come with me now Rio, you're far too good for this bunch of losers.' Unimpressed, Rio responded with 'I told you you'd get an answer, now just back off.' 'And let you hang around with these paupers? Face it, the Kastles are just better blood than these nobodies.'
This was the last straw for an already riled-up Belle, who got into Nash's face as nearby fans started filming. 'You might come from money, but Rio's the only one who came from respect. You want to make fun of us, belittle us, because we're not from the same background as you, because we didn't have a silver spoon in our mouths? Well we're not just paupers, we're from the wrong side of the tracks for you, and you're not just against anyone, it's me and Freja, and we're not just undesirable, we're the Bad Breed, and we're going to kick your arses so hard you'll be using your money to pay for a hospital bed.' She then threatened to headbutt Nash, causing him to scarper, causing Maddy some concern.
'I told you not to do anything.' 'I didn't touch him, I thought you just didn't want us laying a finger on him. In that way I followed your orders.' Rio then confronted her. 'Let me guess, you thought you'd threaten him and that would somehow make him change his mind on his offer?' Belle had a very different view though. 'You make whatever decision you want Rio, because if you don't choose correct, the world keeps turning, we keep going, you're important but you're still a cog in a machine much greater than any of us. So you do what you think, stop waiting for everyone else's opinion.' Belle and Freja then walked off, followed by everyone else.
The show began with a hype video playing, promoting Blair vs. Akiza II, which seemed to really irk Rio. 'The hell's the point of this - they know Blair isn't here, because they refused to help her with her visa issues because "it isn't our issue if you chose being homosexual over , and then they heard her enter the U.S. Championships.' 'That's the entire point, they noticed that Blair's been getting popular, and they don't want any of us getting popular. They'll be making sh*t up about you next, I'm surprised they didn't start with you.'
Meanwhile, in St. Louis, Missouri, USA
Blair arrived at the outdoor arena in St. Louis for the American Championships, but immediately found herself being heckled by a group of thin, tattooed men in military-praising clothes, each with a gun on their side. 'The hell are you doin' here ya limey?' 'Competing, whatdya think?' 'You don't belong here, you betrayed your country, you're not a real american now.' She responded by getting her passport out, and showing the nationality page. 'According to this, I'm an American national. So why don't you turn your (puts on a posh English accent) arse around, and toddle off to your seats.'
Angered, the leader of the group pulled out his gun, holding it down by his side. 'You wanna say that again smart ass?' 'You see, this is why I moved, I don't respect anywhere that lets small-minded dumbos bear arms. Oh, and don't bother trying to shoot me, it wouldn't be the first time this year I've disarmed a homicidal maniac with a Magnum.' 'Acting like some big chick? What've you ever done for this country apart from do it the favour of leaving?' This was where Blair revealed her x factor. 'You realise you're referring to a Marine Reserve, right?'
This left the army guys shocked. 'You, a Navy Reserve?' 'Yeah, would you like to see my acceptance letter? Or do I need to go and get a letter of recommendation from my commander? I served for a year before being discharged on medical grounds.' Looking suspiciously at her, the question came 'What medical issues?' 'I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and Depression. I didn't want to leave, but they insisted I had to get treatment for my Bipolar before I could re-enlist. Now I'm better, I'm a Reserve. Now if you sweethearts don't mind, I've got somewhere important to be.'
As they left, Kris patted her on the back. 'Nicely handled.' 'I'm not scared of someone with a bigger handgun than genitals.' 'How… many times have you had a gun pointed at you?' 'A few' she responded cheerily. 'My own sister's pointed a gun at me before.' 'What - America?' Blair burst out laughing at the thought. 'She wouldn't even know which way round to hold it. No, Savannah did a couple of years back, she wouldn't have shot even if I gave her the chance though, doesn't have the guts. Trust me, I'm not afraid of a gun, I've got quick reactions and if all else fails, I'm a strong swimmer.'
'Strong? You did, like 20 laps of that pool the other week, and you still weren't even panting.' 'I was having a good day to be fair.' Suddenly, a TV reporter came running up to them. 'Blair, what's your reaction to the news that Chazz Princeton has pulled out to compete at WDC Rebellion in Ukraine?' 'Oh, he's pulled out, has he?' she responded snarkily. 'It's almost like he's scared of me. But I'll turn my focus back to him once I've won here.'
In Kyiv, Ukraine
The show was kicked off by the Dynasty's music, and Freja, Belle, Denzil and Kenzie alked out, Freja holding a microphone. 'Ladies and Gentlemen, the new WDC Champion…is not here.' This lead to a chorus of boos from the crowd. 'Phil is not here, but he has asked me to read out a statement on his behalf. It says "I apologise for not being able to be at WDC Rebellion in Ukraine, as I am currently spending quality time with my newborn son, Skylar. I am incredibly proud to be a six-time WDC Champion, one of only three this company has seen, and I intend on being a fighting champion, but only for challengers who are worthy."
"I accept the authority of the WDC to create Top Contender's duels, and in fact I embrace this as such. I will accept any opponent who has won an officially-sanctioned Contender's Duel, so long as the company informs me at least 24 hours in advance of the duel happening. In addition, I value the incredible skill and determination of my management group, competing as the Robinson-Cummings Dynasty. If a competitor challenges one of my Dynasty to a 1-1 "Proving Grounds" duel and win, they will also get a title shot. Finally, all challengers will be allowed to pick their date and location, with a minimum of 7 days' notice to myself.'
As this was stated, a tall woman with grey hair and a purple jacket walked out calmly, smiling sinisterly. 'Do you mind, you're interrupting the WDC Champion here.' 'No, I'm interrupting his bit on the side by the sounds of things. I didn't come to speak to a dog though, I'm looking for your master.' 'Well he ain't here, like I told everyone already. Oh, and while we're at it, why don't we talk about Astrid and' the rest of what Freja said was incomprehensible, as Belle put her hand over her mouth. 'Don't ruin the surprise of the court case Fre.'
'What court case' Henrietta asked, leading to Belle taking the mic. As her ponytail flowed behind her, she sauntered up to the senior Akaba, and stated 'Check your mail when you get home. Oh, and don't call Freja a dog again, otherwise you'll be spending all your masses of money on two prosthetic legs.' This seemed to convert the crowd, who started chanting 'Belle's gonna kill you'. 'You now have permission to talk.' Flustered, Henrietta tried to regain her composure. 'I was just out here to pitch for an LFD superstar getting first shot at your master.'
'Well you heard us earlier. Sadly none of us are available; me and Belle have a title defence, Denzil's got a duel, and Kenzie's not brought her deck. So if you can find someone to take on your representative later on, then by all means do. Otherwise, we don't do freebies.' Still shaken, Henrietta took her up on this. 'Fine, I'll do that. You'll regret ever crossing me!' 'We won't, because if you cross us again, it's going to end much worse. Not many people do what you did and walk away, and we'll happily stop making an exception for you.'
As Henrietta walked away, Maddy's music started, and she walked out to a tepid reception, as the Dynasty parted for her to pass. 'The following duel is for the WDC Young-Gun Championship with a 60 minute time limit. Introducing first, representing the Renegades, from Stonybridge, Northumbria, England, for 221 days, she has been your reigning and defending WDC Champion, Don Alpha - Maddy Smith.' As Maddy walked out, she acknowledged the Dynasty, and even shared a sneaky fist-bump with Belle, as she eased through the walkway, her jacket trailing on the ground. Entering the zone, she paused for a moment, embracing the ground, before taking her hat and jacket off, lifting her title up high.
When the Enforcers' music played, the crowd suddenly erupted into huge cheers. 'Introducing her opponent, from Santa Cruz, California, Crow Hogan.' Crow appeared and gladly saluted the fans, but he wasn't laughing and joking as he walked down to the zone, instead laser focused on his dangerous opponent. As he entered the zone, he didn't take his eyes off her, and before activating his duel disk, he reminded her 'Don't forget, lay a finger on me and you're fired.' 'Oh I'm fired now, previously it was just I'd lose my title. Don't worry, I don't need to touch you to beat you.'
WDC Young-Gun Championship: Crow Hogan LP:8000 vs. [c] Maddy Smith LP:8000
(Maddy hand: Frightfur Patchwork, Patchwork Fluffal, Fluffal Bear, Fluffal Wings, Witch of the Black Forest)
Turn 1: Maddy: 'You can start, I'll just watch from right here.' 'You ain't gonna be watching for long, I'll set one monster and end my turn.'
(Crow hand: Black Whirlwind, Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind, Blackwing - Kris the Crack of Dawn, Blackwing - Bora the Spear, Blackwing - Aurora the Northern Lights, Blackwing - Sirocco the Dawn)
Crow: 'I draw, and I'll activate Black Whirlwind, before summoning Blackwing - Sirocco the Dawn, because I control no monsters and you do (Atk:2000). That triggers Black Whirlwind, allowing me to add Blackwing - Harmattan the Dust to my hand. Now you heard about birds of a feather, they flock together, so when I control a Blackwing, I can summon this - Blackwing, Kris the Crack of Dawn (Atk:1900). And I can summon Blackwing - Bora the Spear (Atk:1700). And I'll add Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind (Atk:1300). Finally, I can summon Blackwing - Harmattan the Dust (Atk:800). When Harmattan is summoned, I can increase its Level by the Level of any other Blackwing on my field, including Sirocco the Dawn (Level:2-7). Then Level 3 Gale can tune to Level 7 Harmattan the Dust, and summon Blackwing Full Armor Master (Atk:3000).'
'Now Sirocco's effect. He believes in unity, you see, not unlike yourself.' 'Finally something you said I agree with.' 'So he unites my monsters by nominating one of them, and uniting all their Attack points. I choose Blackwing Bora.' All of Crow's monsters united behind Bora, and their combined power pushed it up to dizzying stats (Atk:1700-8600). Attack her monster with Black Spiral Bare.' Bora flew in with its spear rotating like a drill, piercing through Maddy's monster (Witch of the Black Forest Def.:1200), almost ending 221 days in less than 100 seconds (Maddy LP:8000-600). 'I end my turn with a face-down (Bora Atk:8600-1700).'
(Maddy hand: Frightfur Patchwork, Patchwork Fluffal, Fluffal Bear, Fluffal Wings, Dark World Dealings)
Maddy: 'All that matters is I still have Life points. I draw, and I'll activate Dark World Dealings. This forces us both to draw a card, then discard a card.' 'You're bluffing, you've got nothing in your deck that deals with this.' 'If you insist. I'll discard this, then I'll discard Fluffal Bear through its effect to set Toy Vendor on my field. Then I'll flip my Toy Vendor, and discard Fluffal Wings with it to draw another card. If it's a Fluffal, I can summon it. If not, it goes to my grave.' She picked the card up, then threw it straight into the graveyard in frustration, her title reign in major jeopardy. 'Right, last chance deck, I'll cash in Fluffal Wings from the grave, banishing it and Fluffal Bear to draw a card. Then I'll send Toy Vendor to draw another.'
Maddy drew both cards together, and then, her heart skipped a beat. 'Always the way. I activate the Spell card Awakening of a New Power!' 'You… you're kidding' a dismayed Crow muttered. 'This will allow me to call upon the ancients, ask them for their power, for their spirits to be at one with my soul. As the great alpha, I ask for them to share my burden, be as one with me. Come to my side, Miracle Wolf (Atk:2800). Then, I can use Miracle Wolf as three Level 12 monsters for an Xyz summon.' Her eyes glowed gold in the darkness, as she summoned her soul. 'I Xyz summon Number R97: my very essence sealed within a creature of destruction, Maddy, the Legendary Wolfblood (Atk:4000).'
Faced down with the magnificent beast, the experienced Crow looked intimidated for the first time in his career. 'Now I think I'll go after… Sirocco.' Crow seemed surprised at Maddy's decisive decision making, as Sirocco was mauled by the timber wolf (Crow LP:8000-6000). 'That's where I'll end my turn.'
(Crow hand: Blackwing - Aurora the Northern Lights, Blackwing - Steam the Cloak)
Crow - 'I'll draw for turn, then… work out the hell I'm going to do.' After a lot of consideration, with Maddy watching on uncharacteristically calmly, he managed to come up with a do-or-die play. 'I'll Normal summon Blackwing - Steam the Cloak (Atk:800). Then Level 3 Steam tunes with Level 4 Bora. I Synchro summon Assault Blackwing - Raikiri the Rain Shower (Atk:2600). Then because it left the field of play, Steam leaves me a little gift - a Steam Token (Atk:0). Now for my move, I need a Tuner and a non-Tuner on the field.'
Maddy responded by staring, unimpressed. 'Where's your Tuner, genius?' His reply though, was 'Already got it - Raikiri is a Synchro Tuner when it's summoned with his Blackwing brethren. So I'll banish Raikiri and my Steam Token from the field, to summon Blackwing - Aurora the Northern Lights (Atk:0).' Maddy grinned at the new threat. 'Using everything you've got then? Give me your best shot!' she growled, as Crow did so. 'You're the boss, I'll use the effect of Aurora the Northern Lights to copy the entire identity of a Blackwing in my Extra deck. I choose Assault Blackwing - Chidori the Rain Sprinkling.'
While Chidori took the identity of the samurai-like Chidori with an auroran glow (Atk:2600), Crow explained its power. 'Chidori respects those who fell before him. For every Blackwing resting in the graveyard, he gets 300 Attack points. I see six (Atk:2600-4400). Now slay that wolf!' The masquerading Aurora took its sword, and as Maddy's miasma leapt, impaled the sword through her head, as Maddy grimaced in pain (Maddy LP:600-200). 'When my spirit is destroyed, it summons this from my Extra deck - Master of Oz (Atk:4200).' Frustrated, Crow ended his turn (Atk:4400-0).
(Maddy hand: Frightfur Patchwork, Patchwork Fluffal, Hidden Armory, Fusion Weapon, Double Fusion)
Maddy: 'I draw, and I'll activate Hidden Armory. By giving up my Normal summon this turn, I get an Equip spell from my deck to hand. I'll add Megamorph. Then I'll activate it, doubling the Attack points of Master of Oz (Atk:4200-8400). Attack Aurora the Northern Lights with Outback Attack!' The mammoth monster pulled its fist back, before smashing Aurora into feathers, securing the win for Maddy (Crow LP:6000-0).
After the duel, Maddy grabbed her title desperately and held it up high, clearly shocked at surviving. She then took aim, and suddenly speared Crow without him having chance to see it coming, before sarcastically laying a finger on him, as she spoke through the mic. 'So I'm still yer curtain jerker am I? You want to book me in this showcase against someone who ain't even allowed to hold my title because you suddenly tweaked the rules for one day, and even then I'm not the main event? What, because you're wanting to promote a duel that ain't even happening, because you denied Blair a visa because she's bisexual? This company is run by corrupt BASTARDS, and I won't stop until each and every one of you has gone. Oh, and Akiza, I see you sneakin' around, just know that I'm right here, so you can stop running away. Any time you want to face me, do, because I'm on a witch hunt right now, and I'll happily tie you up and throw you in the sea!
Backstage, Akiza was watching Maddy's latest tirade as a local reporter came in, and in broken english, conducted an interview. 'Akiza, you look ready to duel, you are aware Blair is not here, no?' 'I'm fully aware, Blair was denied a visa because of… personal decisions that she's made, although it wouldn't have made a difference. Everyone knows that talentless runt had to stall to even get a draw. Which means I get to have a duel of my choosing, any time, any place. Except I've not got to make that decision yet, so I won't. As for her (gesturing towards the screen where Maddy was), I'll get to her when I've destroyed her empire. The emperor will fall after I conquer Rome and leave it a city of ash.'
Near the duelling zone meanwhile, Denzil had a microphone. 'I should be intimidated by Chazz apparently, but I ain't. Some spineless coward who can't even face my mentor because he's shaking in fear? So I'm not scared, I'm going in there and win or lose, I'm going to show him just what the trainee of a "loser" can do. You're gonna be surprised, shaken up, 'cause the beat stays on.'
Chazz was out first for the duel, with several valets by his side, all of whom were very much there purely for his company and for no other reason. 'The following duel is a Top Contender's Duel for the WDC Young-Gun Championship. Introducing first, from San Francisco, California, he is the Thousand Thunders - Chazz Princeton.' Chazz smirked hearing his name, and in the duelling zone, raised his arm, prompting green notes with his face on them to rain down to the ground while his valets showered him with gold powder.
Denzil's beat then hit, and he walked out to a surprising ovation. 'Introducing his opponent, Denzil Davis.' As he was introduced, Denzil started rapping. 'Yo, listen, it's the notorious D.E.N and I'll tell you when, I learned that some guys just ain't men, you're accusin' of duckin', dodgin, but all I see is you're the one runnin', even when the world been watchin', you say you'll be in Missouri but you're just scared of her fury, like you know the last page of the story has already been wrote? You say she's a loser through and through, but I'm about to show you what the trainee of a loser can do, because here and now, the world gets to see me embarrass you.' He threw his mic down, and began the duel immediately.
Top Contender's Duel for the WDC Young-Gun Championship: Chazz Princeton LP:8000 vs. Denzil Davis LP:8000
(Denzil hand: Karakuri Bonze "Kunamzan", Karakuri Merchant "Inashichi", Karakuri Klock, Karakuri Ninja "Nanashick", Gold Gadget)
Denzil: 'I'll start by summoning Karakuri Merchant "Inashichi" (Atk:500). And I'll use its effect to add Karakuri Barrel "Shinkuro" to my hand. Next I'm using this Kunamzan in my hand, by switching Inashichi to Defence (Def.:1500), Kunamzan comes out to deliver the beats (Atk:2200). But now because he makes himself a Tuner, you're about to feel the cold steel. I tune Level 5 Kunamzan to Level 2 Inashichi and Synchro summon Karakuri Shogun "Burei" (Atk:2600). 'Burei's effect summons any Karakuri I like from my deck, including Karakuri Gama "Shirokunishi" (Def.:1000). You know what we do now?' As the fans responded with "Synchro", he nodded. 'I mean, you guys are the boss, right? So I'll tune Level 1 Shirokunishi and 7 Burei to Synchro summon Karakuri Steel Shogun "Bureido" (Atk:2800).'
The fans then started to shout "Shiro", as he grinned. 'These guys know my deck better than I do. Because they told me to, I'm going to summon another Shirokunishi, and tune it to Bureido, for the Karakuri Super Shogun "Bureibu" (Def.:1500). You know what Bureibu does? He summons! I'll get out Karakuri Soldier "Nisamu" (Atk:1400). I end my turn by setting this one card.'
(Chazz hand: Armed Dragon Flash, Armed Dragon Thunder LV3, Keeper of the Shrine, Armed Dragon Thunder LV7, Level Modulation, Level Up!)
Chazz: 'Time to Chazz it up. I draw and summon Armed Dragon Thunder LV3 (Atk:1200). Then I'll use this little guy's effect, sending Keeper of the Shrine from my hand to summon Armed Dragon LV5 (Atk:2400).' 'Hey hey, not so fast, while you were gassin', I was plannin', and used Shirokunishi to switch my Bureibu to Attack (Atk:3000). That triggers its effect, to banish Armed Dragon LV5.' Denzil's ace monster reached out a superheated red hand, which melted LV5 on contact, frustrating Chazz. 'I'll set a card and end my turn.'
(Denzil hand: Karakuri Ninja "Nanashick", Gold Gadget, Karakuri Showdown Castle)
Denzil: 'Time to draw, lay down the law. I'm summoning the Gold Gadget (Atk:1700), and then using the other Shirokunishi in my graveyard to switch Bureibu to Defence (Def.:1500), and use his effect to banish your face-down.' 'I'll activate it, it's Armed Dragon Flash, and in the blink of an eye, it summons Armed Dragon LV3 from my deck (Def.:800).' 'Fine by me, I'll attack your Dragon with my Nisamu.' Nisamu moved slowly like clockwork, its short dagger slowly piercing through the skin of Armed Dragon LV3, slaying it. 'When my Dragon is destroyed, Keeper of the Shrine invites himself back from the dead (Def.:2200).' 'Yeah man, the only think he's keeping is this from Bureibu.' Bureibu warmed up like clockwork, before lunging forward with its sword, destroying Keeper. 'And now Gold Gadget attacks.' One gadget flying to his head later, Chazz was down the first points of the duel (Chazz LP:8000-6300). 'I end my turn.'
(Chazz hand: Armed Dragon Thunder LV7, Level Modulation, Armed Dragon, the Armored Dragon)
Chazz: 'I draw. I'll summon Armed Dragon, the Armored Dragon (Atk:1900).' Aware that attacking Nisamu would simply result in his monster being banished, Chazz came up with an alternative. 'I'll attack your Gold Gadget.' Armored Dragon rammed itself straight into Gold Gadget, dismantling it with pure brute force (Denzil LP:8000-7800). 'Now the effect of Armored Dragon summons a Level 5 or lower Armed Dragon from my deck. Meet Armed Dragon Thunder LV5 (Atk:2400). Then by discarding a Thunder LV7, it can level up into Armed Dragon Thunder LV7 from my deck (Atk:2700). And Thunder LV7's effect adds an Armed Dragon card from my deck to my hand, like Armed Dragon Lightning. Now I can level up LV7 by sending Level Modulation to my graveyard, for Armed Dragon Thunder LV10 (Atk:3000). I'll activated Lightning, use it to increase Armed Dragon Thunder LV10 by 1000 points (Atk:3000-4000), and end my turn.'
(Denzil hand: Karakuri Ninja "Nanashick", Karakuri Showdown Castle, Golden Gearbox)
Denzil: 'I draw.' As he did, Chazz looked down, and realised with no cards in hand, he couldn't protect his monster. So he decided to take advantage of his inexperienced opponent, and blatantly lie. 'Just so you know, Armed Dragon Lightning stops all my monsters being targeted by your effects.' The crowd booed, but Denzil didn't realise why, as he took his time to consider any options. 'Man, I thought I was getting there. I'll switch everything to Defence (Nisamu Def.:200, Bureibu Def.:1500), and end my turn.'
(Chazz hand: Armed Dragon Thunder LV3)
Chazz: 'I draw. I activate Armed Dragon Lightning's effect again to increase my monster's power (Atk:4000-5000). Now destroy his Synchro monster!' Bureibu was no match for the fierce lightning palms of Thunder LV10, destroying it. 'I end my turn.'
(Denzil hand: Karakuri Ninja "Nanashick", Karakuri Showdown Castle, Gift of the Martyr)
Denzil: 'I draw, and I'll tribute Gold Gadget to summon Karakuri Ninja "Nanashick" (Atk:2200). Now for his effect, he counts up every Defence-position Karakuri I have, and each one draws me a card. So that's one card. I'll set it, and end my turn.' 'When you do, I'll use Thunder LV10 to discard Thunder LV3 and destroy Nisamu, gaining 1000 Attack (Atk:5000-6000).' Denzil grimaced, knowing that the end was likely nigh by this point. 'And Thunder LV3 draws a card when discarded.'
(Chazz hand: Armed Dragon LV5, Pile Armed Dragon)
Chazz: 'Chazz it… up!' He saw the card and sneered. 'You were never a match for me, that's what you get for learning from a bum. I'll activate Pile Armed Dragon, to discard Armed Dragon LV5 and summon itself (Atk:2800). That trigger Thunder LV5, for Armed Dragon Thunderbolt. Then I'll activate Lightning again to increase Thunder LV10 further (Atk:6000-7000). Afterwards, I can use Pile Armed Dragon to send Armed Dragon LV10 to the graveyard, and increase Thunder LV10's Attack by 300 for every Level it had (Atk:7000-10,000).'
'That allows LV10 to use its ultimate effect!' Chazz's Dragon unleashed a huge blast of electricity that radiated around the arena, wiping out Denzil's entire field in one shot, leaving scorch marks in its place. 'Attack!' One more lightning palm, and Chazz had secured his win, albeit in dubious circumstances (Denzil LP:7800-0).
After the comprehensive win, Chazz was being interviewed by one of his valets. 'The great Mr. Princeton with another crushing victory. You must tell us all, how do you do it?' He smirked, and responded with 'Natural talent. I'm the greatest duellist to have ever lived, and now I'm here to show everyone.' 'So what's next for your journey of greatness?' 'The Young-Gun Championship. Because everyone talks about how great Maddy is, but she's just another loser who surrounds herself with even dumber losers. And she's held that title for far too long, so it's about time someone made it valuable again.' As he smirked again, a graphic showing Chazz vs. Maddy at LFD Euro-Fest was shown off.
Outside, Rio was using one of her cannabis cigarettes when Nash approached her. 'I already told you.' 'I know, I just wanted to know why I've not been ambushed by the troupe yet.' 'Me and Maddy had an agreement, after Japan we're not laying a finger on you anymore, you're welcome.' This appeared to confirm her brother's suspicions, as he smirked. 'I knew you'd make the right decision. Smell ya later sissy.' As he walked away though, she took another puff, and stated 'Yep, you will.'
In the duelling zone, Tee was entering, for a scheduled duel with Jade, but by now everyone was aware that Jade also had been denied entry to the country. When she arrived at the zone, the youngster of Black Rose Inc. got a microphone. 'Count her out already, the glory is ours.' Instead, what she got was MGA walking out, to a very negative reception. 'Jade may not be able to be here for these fans, but we did locate a replacement for her in this duel. Introducing'
As he went to introduce the opponent, Myka walked out to some new music, wearing cobalt blue all over. 'I can introduce myself, thanks. My name is Myka Grainger, and I am the reigning three-time Amateur World Champion. And since nobody else wanted to step in for this duel, I did. In fact, I would have stepped in to face Akiza, but nobody told me Blair wouldn't be here. But it doesn't matter, because I've got someone I fancy taking on after I see you off.' She then walked down, and activated her duel disk.
Tee Taylor LP:8000 vs. Myka Grainger LP:8000
(Myka hand: Kozmojo, Kozmotown, Emergency Teleport, Kozmo DOG Fighter, Kozmourning)
Turn 1: Myka: 'Let's start this off strong with Emergency Teleport, to summon Kozmo Tincan (Atk:0). I'll set two, end my turn, and activate Tincan's effect, before chaining Tincan's other effect, to banish itself and summon Kozmo DOG Fighter (Def.:2400). Now back to Tincan, it can reveal three different Kozmo monsters from my deck. It adds one to my hand. Or should I say, you add one to my hand. At random, obviously. I'll reveal Farmgirl, Tincan, and Wickedwitch.' Tee immediately shouted out 'Middle', and it was Farmgirl which was chosen.
(Tee hand: Ultimate Fusion, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Flamvell Guard, Kaiser Sea Horse, Monster Reborn)
Tee: 'I draw. I' 'Excuse me, I am still here.' 'Yeah? Well it's my turn! So shut up!' Myka just laughed this off. 'Charming. In the Standby phase, I'll activate DOG Fighter's effect to summon a DOG Fighter Token (Def.:2400).' 'Summon all you like, I'll activate Ultimate Fusion. This combines my two Blue-Eyes White Dragons to Fusion summon Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon (Atk:3000). Then I'll go straight to my Battle phase' 'I activate Kozmojo at the start of the Battle phase. This will destroy my DOG Fighter and banish your Dragon.' A dark, ghostly black hand crushed the token, and then reached out towards Twin Burst, slowly reeling it into the abyss of its palm, before closing and vanishing. 'Oh you're so clever doing that, I'm sure you're so proud. But I'm not done, I'll activate Monster Reborn to bring back Blue-Eyes White Dragon (Atk:3000). Then I can pair it with Flamvell Guard (Atk:100).' 'Synchro 9?' 'You know it - I'll tune Guard to Blue-Eyes, and Synchro summon Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon (Def.:3000). I end my turn.'
(Myka hand: Kozmotown, Kozmo Farmgirl, Trap Trick)
Myka: 'I draw, and I'll summon another Token in my Standby phase (Def.:2000). Next I'll activate Kozmotown.' The field changed to an emerald-green metropolis, with spaceships randomly flying overhead them both, as Myka looked to create an opening. 'With this, I can target a banished Kozmo monster, and pay LIfe points equal to its Level multiplied by 100 to add it to my hand. Or how about a practical demonstration for you - I'll pay 100 to add the Level 1 Tincan back to my hand. I'll summon it (Atk:0), and end my turn, triggering my Tincan. I'll reveal Kozmo Dark Destroyer, Kozmo Dark Eclipser, and Kozmo Forerunner.' This time, Tee paused, before declaring 'Left', seeing Myka get Forerunner.
(Tee hand: Kaiser Sea Horse, Dictator of D)
Tee: 'I draw. During my Standby phase, I can use my Azure-Eyes' effect, to revive a Dragon from my graveyard. Guess which one I'm picking (Atk:3000).' 'You might have Blue-Eyes back, but I'm getting a gift as well (DOG Fighter Token Def.:2400).' 'So what? I summon Dictator of D (Atk:1200). And then, I'll attack Tincan with my Blue-Eyes.' 'I'll use Tincan's effect, tagging out to Kozmo Forerunner (Def.:1400).' 'That's never going to stand up to White Lightning!' Tee's reckless attack appeared to pay out as Forerunner was split clean in half, but that's when Myka revealed her ploy.
'When Forerunner is destroyed, it doesn't completely leave me. Instead, it calls out a lower Level Kozmo from my deck. I'll summon Kozmo Landwalker (Def.:1200).' 'Whatever, I'll just end my turn. I dare you to attack me.'
(Myka hand: Kozmo Farmgirl, Trap Trick, Kozmotown)
Myka: 'I draw, getting another DOG Fighter Token (Def.:2400), and I'll set this straight away because… yeah, and then I'll use Kozmotown to get my Tincan back (Myka LP:7900-7800). I end my turn, and then use Tincan's effect to reveal Dark Destroyer, Dark Eclipser, and… Dark Lady I guess.' Tee silently pointed at the card on the left, and Myka added Dark Eclipser.
(Tee hand: Kaiser Sea Horse, Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon)
Tee: 'I draw. I'll go straight to battle, and attack Tincan with Blue-Eyes.' Strangely though, Myka didn't trigger her monster's effect again, instead taking the attack as Tincan got battered (Myka LP:7800-4900). 'I activate the effect of Kozmo Landwalker.' The towering and lumbering Landwalked slowly wandered over to Tincan, and stood in front of Tincan, deflecting Blue-Eyes' attack into the air above them. 'What's going on?' 'Landwalker can deflect your attack into any other card on the field, destroying that instead. And I'm destroying the emerald city!' As the town started to explode around them, Tee smiled. 'You're a maniac.' 'I know, but I'm a maniac who can now add any Kozmo to my hand thanks to the destruction of my town. I'll add Kozmo Dark Destroyer.'
'Now I'll ditch this old Tincan, banishing it to summon Dark Destroyer (Atk:3000). And its effect will destroy Azure-Eyes.' Dark Destroyer arrived through a portal, shooting its laser guns as it did so, felling Azure-Eyes. 'I'll activate Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon's effect in my hand to summon itself because you destroyed Azure-Eyes (Atk:3000).' 'I'll respond to its activation with Trap Trick, to set Kozmojo on my field, banishing the 3rd copy from my deck. Then as soon as you summon Jet Dragon, I'll activate Kozmojo, destroying Landwalker to banish your Jet Dragon.' Like Twin Burst earlier, Jet Dragon was dragged inescapably towards its doom, disappearing out of sight. 'I'll end my turn.'
(Myka hand: Kozmo Farmgirl, Kozmo Dark Eclipser, Kozmo Lightsword)
Myka: 'I draw. I'll summon Kozmo Farmgirl (Atk:1500), and equip her with a Kozmo Lightsword, raising her up by 500 (Atk:1500-2000). Then I'll switch all my Tokens to Attack (Atk:2000x3) and attack into Blue-Eyes with Kozmo Dark Destroyer.' In desperation to prevent lethal damage, Tee had to make a difficult decision. 'I'll use Dictator of D's effect to make you attack it.' As Blue-Eyes was shot at, Dictator stood in front of the legendary Dragon, taking the fall in its place (Tee LP:8000-6200). This proved to be futile though.
'I'll banish Farmgirl through her effect to summon Kozmo Dark Eclipser (Atk:3000), and then crash that into your Dragon. You got another Dictator of D?' Tee didn't speak, instead watching as her monster got blown up by a spaceship crashing into it head-on. 'Now I can banish Eclipser to summon another Dark Destroyer (Atk:3000), and with that I can attack with all four of my monsters.' Tee could only look on, seeing her chances go down in a laser light show (Tee LP:6200-0).
After her hard-fought win, Myka gave a knowing nod to Tee, and then got her microphone back. 'I'm going to present this straight - I'm going after my half sister. And I mean biological half-sister, none of this "I'm adopted" bullcrap. So I want a shot at you Maddy, and your title. No ifs, buts, or maybes, I want to show you that while I may be on the amateur ranks, that's by choice, and I could smoke your ass any day of the week and twice on Sundays. And if you had any guts, you'd come and find me, and accept my challenge.'
No sooner had Myka finished speaking, then Maddy's music hit again, and she walked out wearing her hat, and a purple red right hand shirt over her vest. She walked straight down to the centre of the zone, and then raised her title in front of Myka. 'I've got plenty of guts, and if you wanted a title shot, all you needed to do was ask, 'cause I'm not difficult to find. If you want me, and if Chazz wants me, you can both have me. Together, one after the other, 2-1, I don't give a fuck. Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough.'

Hannah was preparing some food for Skylar, when Astrid passed, carrying a nappy. 'Doesn't stink as bad this one. Oh, did you want me to sort his food?' 'Astrid, you're already doing plenty, thank you though.' 'I turned Sky over as well because he was lying on his front.' 'He's stubborn like his Dad' Hannah joked as Phil was walking out of the bedroom nearest the stairs. 'I've got that room cleared for you Astrid, so any day you want us to go up to the base and collect your belongings.' 'Honestly I don't really need anything, especially since Hannah started using the same shampoo as me.'
'Yep, and I've already written my initials on mine.' 'You didn't need to do that, I'm happy to share.' 'It's not for you, it's for me, my hair's about half the length of yours. Hopefully now I'm not carrying a massive weight in my stomach my body can concentrate on growing this mop out.' 'You know you could just ask Blair to sort it out?' Hannah smiled, and shook her head as she pushed the black hairband up her shoulder-length hair. 'There's no point just yet, it's only going to get messed up. To be fair though I don't mind this look too much.' 'Yeah, it does suit you.'
Meanwhile, Phil got a phone call. 'Hi, how you doing? Yep. Oh… ok then, that's interesting. Yep, I'll pass that onto her. Yeah, I'll see what I can do for her, thanks. Yeah they're good thanks. I'll speak soon, bye.' As Astrid looked over, Phil had some revelations. 'That was Frances - apparently she's just been on the phone to Declan, and he's going to be on your side when you sue LFD.' 'That's fantastic' she responded, delighted. 'She's going to need to meet with you in the next few days though, just so she can go through the next steps, along with what you want to gain.'
'All I want is to compete. But I suppose I'm not complaining too much to the break, especially when I get to play fairy godmother for this one.' 'Well I'll come with you for your meeting whenever it is.' Hannah then signalled over to him. 'Let me go with her, you've done plenty.' 'If you want to, you can.' 'Yeah, let me do it, give you some quality time with the lord as well without us women hovering over you.' He just laughed. 'Thank you. I'll enjoy not having you around, and that's all I'm going to say because I'm outnumbered.'
In St. Louis
Blair walked out for the U.S. Championships finals, having won 11 duels in one day without conceding a single Life point. Facing her down in the final was Radley, who had lost in the final to Kris the previous year. The crowd were firmly in his corner, but Blair didn't seem concerned, sporting an orange bandanna and a bright purple jacket. The sun beating down, she commenced the duel.
U.S. National Championships Final: Blair Flannigan (MI) LP:8000 vs. Radley (CA) LP:8000
(Blair hand: Foolish Burial, Inari Fire, Invocation, Mathematician, Fusion Weapon)
Blair: 'I'll open by summoning Mathematician (Atk:1500). When it's brought out, it sends any Level 4 or lower monster from my deck to the graveyard. I'll send Shaddoll Squamata, and use its effect to send Naelshaddoll Ariel to my graveyard. Now I'll Special summon Inari Fire (Atk:1500), and link off both of them. Unleash the beast, Aleister, the Invoker of Madness (Atk:1800, Link Arrows: Bottom Left, Bottom Right).' Radley appeared to be impressed at the move. 'Never see it, then you see it twice in a row.'
'Yeah, let's just say I've been doing some specific training - this lot are a nice warm-up. Now I'll activate Foolish Burial, sending Aleister the Invoker to my graveyard, and activate Invocation, fusing Aleister and Ariel to Fusion summon Invoked Cocytus (Def.:2900). This triggers Invoker of Madness, to add Book of the Law to my hand. Then I'll equip Cocytus with Fusion Weapon (Def.:2900-4400), I'll use Invocation to get Aleister back to my hand, and end my turn.'
(Radley hand: Fire Formation - Tensu, Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear, Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Spirit, Fire Formation - Tensu, Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Caribou, Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Boar)
Radley: 'I'll draw, and activate Fire Formation - Tensu, allowing me to Normal summon Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Boar (Atk:1100). And then Caribou can join it (Atk:1100). Now I'll tune Level 4 Boar to Level 4 Caribou, and summon Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Kirin (Def.:2800). When it's on the field, your monsters lose 100 Attack for every Fire Formation I control (Cocytus Atk:3300-3200). Now because Boar was sent to the graveyard for a Synchro summon, I can set Fire Formation - Ingen from my deck. Then I'll activate it (Cocytus Atk:3200-3100), and fuse together Spirit and Bear from my hand for Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Swan (Atk:2600).'
'When Swan is summoned, you lose 200 Life points for every Fire Formation I control.' The crowd cheered as Blair finally took some damage for the first time in the event, smoke flying through her face (Blair LP:8000-7600). 'Now I'll enter my Battle phase, and use Swan's effect to send Ingen from my Spell and Trap zone to destroy your Fusion Weapon (Cocytus Atk/Def.:3100/4400-1700/2900). Ingen's effect adds Spirit back to my hand when it's sent from the field to the grave. I'll end my turn.'
(Blair hand: Aleister the Invoker, The Book of the Law, Rage Fusion)
Blair: 'This one's over.' 'I'd love to see you try' Radley responded, but saw that Blair was smiling. 'Let's do this! I'll summon Aleister the Invoker, and then I'll use his effect for Invocation. Invocation, fusing Aleister with the Inari Fire in my graveyard to Fusion summon Invoked Purgatrio, who gets 200 extra Attack for every card on your field (Atk:2300-2900). Then I'll use Invocation to cycle Aleister back to my hand. Purgatrio, attack'
'Don't even bother, Swan effect sending Tensu to destroy your Purgatrio.' 'Book of the Law, targeting Cocytus for another Purgatrio (Atk:2700). Purgatrio, attack. And when he does, I'll use Aleister's effect to boost him by 1000 (Atk:2700-3700).' Purgatrio's spectral flames surged towards Kirin, disarming him and turning him to ashes (Radley LP:8000-7100). 'Now I'll destroy Swan.' Purgatrio took a second victim as Swan was also burned by it (Radley LP:7100-6000). 'Invoker of Madness can also attack.' Aleister crafted a purple and red square in front of himself, and fired a beam directly through it, dropping Radley's Life points (Radley LP:6000-4200).
'Now I'll activate Flash Fusion. This will fuse Aleister the Invoker of Madness and Invoked Purgatrio so I can summon Extox Hydra (Atk:2000).' 'The hell is that thing?' Radley responded, facing down the reptile on her field. 'Extox Hydra, attack.' The serpentine Extox launched its heads like lightning, slamming through Radley and returning to their original position immediately after (Radley LP:4200-2200). 'The effect of Extox now lets me draw a card for every 1000 points of damage you took. So that's two more cards.'
Drawing the cards, she smiled again. 'This is it - I activate El Shaddoll Fusion, to fuse together Shaddoll Falco and Extox Hydra, to summon El Shaddoll Anoyatyllis (Atk:2700). Attack!' The Shaddoll monster fired a web-like string at Radley, who puffed his cheeks out, knowing there was little more he could have done (Radley LP:2200-0).
As the dust settled, Blair smiled, and pumped her fist at her first national title. The fans booed, but that started to change as they saw tears in her eyes, as Kris pounced on her and gave her a hug. The interviewer went over to Radley first, but he simply stated 'I'm not interested in interviews when I lost, you should be talking to the winner. Just know I'm coming back bigger and better next time.' As the fans applauded him, Blair was interviewed.
'Blair Flannigan, I believe I'm right in saying this is your first major singles title?' 'Yep, I mean I've done things with the Amateurs and the Young-Gun Championship before, but this feels like something totally different.' 'Feels good?' 'Vindicating's the word. Just to show everyone that I'm as good as I know I am, and that I can show it in the heat of battle. Because this isn't even all I have to offer, I'm so much better than I've shown previously.' 'Now we know that you've never been the most naturally confident person, is that something you've worked on recently?'
'Erm… I suppose? I've not really worked on it, I'm still the same person I always was, I just have people backing me up now. I'm still the kid from Michigan with a dream.' 'You think the best is yet to come then?' 'Absolutely, I'm only 20, I feel like I've still got a way to improve, but I know how good I am already, and anyone will tell you how hard I work to improve every single day. This is all I've ever wanted to be - since I first watched when I was 11, all I've ever wanted to be is a pro duellist. Doesn't matter if I was in the Marines, or a hairdresser in England, or working in a gemstone assessors in Shelby, all I've ever wanted to do is this. And I'm never going to stop until I'm the absolute best, and even then I'll push harder.'
The trophy was then brought out; a gaudy, bejewelled American flag, sitting atop a diamond-encrusted card. As the trophy was presented to her though, she had one more thing to say. 'Oh, and I want to send a message to someone who couldn't be here today. Chazz, I know you're dodging me, you've been dodging me for years, and you'll continue dodging me. But just know, you can't avoid me forever. I'll be in Germany for LFD: Euro Fest, and if you don't agree terms to duel me there, I'll tell the full story of how we know each other.' With this warning, she raised her trophy, triumphant.
In Ukraine
Belle and Freja were being interviewed backstage ahead of their first title defence. 'Here with the new LFD Tag-Team Champions, Belle and Freja of the Dynasty, just to get their thoughts on the upcoming duel.' Freja was more than happy to share her views. 'You might think we're feeling the pressure of the titles, but no, because we're in the Dynasty, and when you're in such a… such great company, that's pressure enough. It doesn't get more pressurised than that, doesn't get harder to live up to expectations. You have to constantly deal with the fact that you're not just with some mid-rate jokers, you're with the best. That's what we have to live up to, so no, we're not scared of our challengers, the only pressure we have is ourselves.'
Belle then took the microphone. 'We're not some sweethearts, we're bad asses, we're the Badd Breed. And we never back down from a challenge. So if you think you've got what it takes, come and find us, you'll be shocked at what you find. Bad Breed, born to battle, forged in war, sharpened by iron. We're not scared of you or anybody, because we weren't chosen by some mythical god, we were chosen by a legend, and we have to carry that burden. Every day. But that's our cross to bear. We're the Dynasty, and we are excellence.' They held up the symbol, and walked away.
Nash and Kieran emerged first for the title duel, both wearing purple jackets. 'The following duel is for the LFD Doubles Championships. Introducing first, the challengers, representing Junction 7, they are the team of The Last Emperor, Nash and Kieran Byrne.' The challengers swiftly walked down, getting strong reactions from the crowd, as highlights of Nash's run to the final of the AllStars were shown to hype him up. Behind them was Tee, carrying the J7 standard. In the zone, they both held their right arms out in front of them, and waited.
Shortly after, the champions' music hit, and they came out wearing their brand-new outfits. 'Introducing their opponents, representing the Dynasty, from Renegades HQ, North Shields, England, they are the LFD Doubles Champions, the team of Belle Draper and Freja McKinna, the Badd Breed.' They walked down together, getting an equally promising response as their challengers, and in the zone, they got in the faces of their opponents, with Belle and Kieran in particular getting right into it, to the point where security had to separate them.
LFD Doubles Championships: Junction 7 (Nash/Kieran Byrne LP:8000) vs. [c] Badd Breed (Belle Draper/Freja McKinna) LP:8000
(Freja hand: Cyber Angel Benten, Ritual Foregone, Meteonis Drytron, Drytron Alpha Thuban, Drytron Gamma Eltanin)
Turn 1: Freja: 'Let's go! I'll activate Drytron Alpha Thuban, tributing Cyber Angel Benten to summon itself (Def.:0). Then Benten adds a Level 6 or below Fairy, like Eva, and Alpha adds a Ritual monster, so Herald of Ultimateness. Then Gamma Eltanin, tribute Alpha Thuban (Def.:0). Gamma effect, summoning back Alpha (Atk:2000), then I'll overlay both into Drytron Mu Beta Fafnir (Atk:2000). Afterwards I'll use Meteonis Drytron, tributing Alpha from Fafnir to summon Herald of Ultimateness (Def.:3000). I end my turn with a face-down.'
(Nash hand: Buzzsaw Shark, Water Hazard, Silent Angler, Rank-up Magic Barian's Force, Reincarnation of the Seventh Emperors, Dream Shark)
Nash: 'I draw. I'll summon Buzzsaw Shark (Atk:1700), and use its effect.' Freja immediately went to negate the effect, but Belle gave her a slight nudge, giving Freja the smallest of openings to think. 'You're good.' 'Sure?' 'Yep. Go ahead.' 'Fine, I'll summon Lantern Shark (Atk:1500), and then, because both my Sharks can treat themselves as Level 5s, I'll overlay them both to Xyz summon Number 73: Abyss Splash (Atk:2400). Now I can use the power that our god gave us - Rank-up Magic Barian's Force!' Freja responded to this, not with a negate, but with a cheeky decleration of 'Your god sucks', annoying him.
'You will pay! With this, I'll rebuild the overlay network with Rank 5 Abyss Splash. Chaos Xyz Evolution! Barian's power, born of chaos' Before he could finish his chant, Belle interrupted. 'Can we… err… get on with this? I'm bored.' This briefly put Nash off, before he continued. 'Lay waste to these rude fools! I Xyz summon Number C73 - Abyss Supra Splash (Atk:3000). Now I'll attack and use Abyss Supra's effect' 'I'll respond with Herald, sending Eva to the graveyard to negate your effect and destroy Abyss Supra.' 'Well as long as I have Abyss Splash as a material, Supra can't be destroyed by card effects.' 'Oh well, I'll use Eva to banish itself and Benten to add Cyber Angels Dakini and Natasha.' Nash still had another move of his own though. 'I'll summon Dream Shark in Defence because all monsters I control are Water monsters (Def.:2600), and end my turn.'
(Belle hand: Qliphort Stealth, Qliphort Monolith, Summoner's Art, Summoner's Art, Qliphort Helix, Wavering Eyes)
Belle: 'I'll move next, activating Summoner's Art for Qliphort Scout. Then I'll scale up Scale 1 Monolith and Scale 9 Scout, before using Scout's effect to pay 800 (BB LP:8000-7200), to add Saqlifice. Now I'll Pendulum summon one monster, Qliphort Helix (Atk:2400-1800), and equip it with Saqlifice (Atk:1800-2100). That means I can use it as two tributes, so I'll sack it for Qliphort Stealth (Atk:2800). Chain Link 1 is Saqlifice's grave effect to add Qliphort Cephalopod to my hand, then I'll chain Stealth's effect to send Supra back to where it came from. Enjoy being back to the beginning.' Stealth vanished as soon as it appeared on the field, resulting in a single laser coming apparently from thin air, making Supra vanish like a magic trick. 'Now I'll attack.' Stealth materialised right in front of J7, and took another shot, dealing the first damage (J7 LP:8000-5200). 'I end my turn, and Monolith's effect draws a card.'
(Kieran hand: Superheavy Samurai Big Waraji, Superheavy Samurai Soulbreaker Armor, Jizukiru, the Star Destroying Kaiju, Superheavy Samurai Battleball, Superheavy Samurai Motorbike, Superheavy Samurai Magnet)
Kieran: 'Fun's over kids. I'll tribute your Herald so I can give you Jizukiru, the Star Destroying Kaiju (Atk:3300). Then I'm summoning Superheavy Samurai Battleball (Atk:400). The effect of Battleball makes it tune to your Kaiju now. 2+10 is 12, so I'll summon Superheavy Samurai Steam Train King (Def.:4800). The effect of Steam Train King allows the discard of one card to destroy a card on your field. I'll throw out Soulbreaker Armor and get rid of Stealth.' 'Effect Veiler from hand to grave, negating the effect.' 'I'll just attack you then with Steam Train King. Get rid of Stealth!' The Train King rumbled along, running straight over Stealth despite it attempting to vanish, equalising the scores (Badd Breed LP:7200-5200). 'I end my turn.'
(Freja hand: Cyber Angel Dakini, Cyber Angel Natasha, Ritual Foregone)
Freja: 'I draw, set this, pass.' Nash gloated at the move. 'You're completely useless, give us some real opponents.' This seemed to get under her skin, but Belle kept her calm. 'Like you'd know what a real opponent is, people only care about you because you're Rio's brother.' This lead to gasps from the crowd, as it was Nash's turn to see red.
(Nash hand: Water Hazard, Silent Angler, Overlay Reversal)
Nash: 'You're going to PAY for that! I activate Overlay Reversal. This targets an Xyz monster in my Graveyard or Extra deck that left the field since my last turn, and brings it back with this as a material, but it can't attack this turn. Return, Number C73: Abyss Splash (Atk:3000). I end my turn.'
(Belle hand: Summoner's Art, Wavering Eyes, Negate Attack, Pendulum Area)
Belle: 'I draw, and I'll end my turn setting two cards.'
(Kieran hand: Superheavy Samurai Big Waraji, Superheavy Samurai Motorbike, Superheavy Samurai Magnet)
Kieran: 'If you're not going to do anything then I will. Attack with Steam Train King! Full steam ahead.' 'Looks like your attack's out of puff this time big boy, Negate Attack.' The Train King looked set to wreak destruction again, but instead ran into a forcefield protecting the new champions. 'Maybe that's a lesson, power is nothing if it isn't paired with skill. A little bit of grace goes a long way.' Still annoyed over Belle's earlier comment, Nash struck back. 'And just what do you think gives you the right to talk to Kieran like that, he's far more' 'I end my turn' Kieran said, interrupting the rant. As Nash remonstrated with his teammate, Freja took her next turn.
(Freja hand: Cyber Angel Dakini, Cyber Angel Natasha, Ritual Foregone, Pot of Greed)
Freja: 'I draw, and I'll activate Pot of Greed to draw another two.' Seeing the card, she murmured 'halfway there' to Belle, who gave nothing away. 'I'll activate Meteonis Drytron's effect in the grave, to add itself back to the hand at the cost of 1000 of Fafnir's Attack points (Atk:2000-1000).' At that moment, Belle made her move. 'I activate Wavering Eyes. This destroys all cards in the Pendulum zones, and then depending on how many, I get a series of effects.' As a strong wind whipped up and destroyed Scout and Monolith, Belle explained. 'For two cards, you take 500 damage, and then I can search my deck for a Pendulum monster and add it to my hand. I'll grab myself another Scout (J7 LP:5200-4700).' She then glanced over at Freja, who glanced back, knowing what she had to do.
'I activate Sprite's Blessing, tributing Natasha from my hand, to summon another Natasha (Atk:1000). Then I'll use Meteonis, tributing Natasha and the Gamma attached to Fafnir, to summon Cyber Angel Dakini (Atk:2700). Now for Dakini, her effect forces you to send a monster from your field to the graveyard. Your choice.' While Kieran and Nash discussed the move, Freja did her best to distract them by constantly moving, but it didn't appear to be working, as they quickly came to a consensus. 'We're sending Steam Train King, and keeping our other monsters.'
'Oh, who said anything about keeping your monsters? I activate the effect of Natasha in my graveyard, summoning her and taking control of Abyss Supra (Atk:1000). And now your Abyss Supra does my bidding, attacking your Dream Shark.' 'You may be confident, but you seem to forget that Dream Shark can't be destroyed in battle.' As it transpires, Freja had forgotten this. 'I end my turn. When I do, Dakini's effect adds a Ritual monster from my graveyard to my hand, so I'll choose Herald of Ultimateness.'
(Nash hand: Water Hazard, Silent Angle, Lantern Shark)
Nash: 'I draw. I summon Lantern Shark (Atk:1500), and overlay it and Dream Shark to Xyz summon N. Knight (Def.:2700). The effect of my monster allows it to detach two materials to attach two other monsters as materials - one being a Number monster with a number above 100 from my Extra deck, and the other being a monster on your field. So I'll attach Number 104: Masquerade, and Qliphort Stealth, then end my turn.'
(Belle hand: Pendulum Paradox)
Belle: 'I draw, and I'll activate Qliphort Scout in the Pendulum zone, paying 800 Life points (Bad Breed LP:5200-4400), to add Saqlifice. Then I can activate Summoner's Art to add Qliphort Monolith.' After a quick confirmation with Belle, she continued the play. 'Scale Monolith, and I'll summon Qliphort Helix from the Extra deck (Atk:1800).' Immediately, Nash triggered his monster. 'Effect of N. Knight, targeting Umbral Horror Masquerade and Qliphort Helix.' 'I'm done.'
(Kieran hand: Superheavy Samurai Big Waraji, Superheavy Samurai Motorbike, Superheavy Samurai Magnet, Superheavy Samurai Soulpiercer)
Kieran: 'I draw, and I'll summon Superheavy Samurai Big Waraji because I have no Spells or Traps in my graveyard (Def.:1800). Next I'll summon Superheavy Samurai Motorbike (Atk:900). The effect of Motorbike increases the Level of Big Waraji by two (Level:5-7), meaning I can tune Level 2 Motobike and Level 7 Big Waraji to Synchro summon. You're not the only team carrying an animal, because we have Superheavy Samurai Beast Kyubi (Def.:2500). For every monster you control, Kyubi gains 900 Defence (Def.:2500-3400). Destroy Dakini.' Kyubi flared up its back, and charged at Dakini, taking her down in flames (Bad Breed LP:4400-3700). 'I end my turn.'
(Freja hand: Herald of Ultimateness, Giant Trunade)
Freja: 'I draw. I activate Giant Trunade, bouncing Belle's Pendulum Scales back to her hand.' As the storm raged, the champions were readying to take control. 'Drytron Alpha, tribute Herald of Ultimateness (Def.:0). Alpha effect add Amorphactor Pain, the Imagination Dracoverlord. Gamma tribute Alpha (Def.:0). Gamma effect, revive Alpha (Atk:2000). Now I'll overlay my two Level 1 monsters to build the overlay network, and summon a friend's signature. Spread your wings and soar, Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale (Atk:400).' Nash immediately laughed off the threat.
'You call that a move? With friends like that, Marin doesn't need enemies.' Freja struck back though. 'Her name is Rio Kastle, and she understands that friends help each other out and value each other. Now if you allowed yourself to have friends you might understand that, but you're so busy being this pretend warlord that you're not able to allow yourself to have any. You wouldn't understand what it means to fight together.' 'You're just reciting the same old tired tales, Rio doesn't need to be held back by your ideas of friendship, you're no better than leeches!'
'We're the leeches? As oppose to the brother who only cares about his sister when she's successful or stealing his spotlight? You're not family to her, you're just a pathetic excuse who is jealous that he's no longer the biggest star in his own family.' 'Rio needs real friends she can rely on, not a stripper and a psychopath. Don't worry, she tells me everything.' Freja was about to react, when Belle called his bluff. 'So you'll know that she said she'd sell her half of the mansion to you if it meant getting you out of her life? Or that she's told anyone how you got scared by an onion that time? Let's face it, she tells you everything. Freja, turn.'
This appeared to refocus Freja. 'I'll attack with Assembled Nightingale. She can attack directly, and she attacks once for every material.' Nightingale flew into the sky, before shooting down hard and sharp feathers, dropping Junction 7's Life points (J7 LP:4700-3900). 'Afterwards, because an Xyz monster attacked this turn, I can overlay Assembled Nightingale to Xyz summon Divine Arsenal AA Zeus - Sky Thunder (Def.:3000).' Facing down a huge mecha, Nash still appeared to be completely confident. 'Do what you like.'
'If you insist, I'll use the effect of Zeus detaching two materials (Xyz materials:3-1), and sending every other card from the field to the graveyard.' 'That's fine, I'll just use N. Knight's effect, targeting Number 101: Silent Honor ARK and AA Zeus.' Nash was more than happy with his work, until he saw every card leave the field anyway. 'How did that not stop your monster?' 'You never negated it dummy' Freja responded curtly. 'I end my turn.'
(Nash hand: Water Hazard, Silent Angler, Glory of the Seven Emperors)
Nash: 'I draw. I'll set this monster and pass it back.' It was clear at this point that his confidence had drained, having used many of his most powerful resources up. This wasn't helped by Belle still having a masterful poker face, her expression having rarely shifted up or down from the beginning.
(Belle hand: Pendulum Paradox, Qliphort Scout, Qliphort Monolith, Qliphort Cephalopod)
Belle: 'My go. I'll re-set my Scales with Scale 1 Monolith and Scale 9 Scout. Then the effect of Scout adds Qliphort Shell to my hand (Bad Breed LP:3700-2900). Now I'll Pendulum summon two - from my Extra deck, Qliphort Stealth, and from my hand, Qliphort Shell (Atk:2800-1800x2). Now I'll activate Saqlifice, and allow it to use Shell as two Tributes for Qliphort Cephalopod (Atk:2800).' Belle was about to use Cephalopod's effect, but then paused, and had a question. But with Phil not around, it was up to the referee to clarify how her monster's effect would work.
After the brief time-out, Belle returned with answers. 'If you have more monsters in your graveyard than we do, we gain Life points equal to the difference x 300, and you lose those Life points. Look, they've got to come from somewhere.' With 13 monsters in Junction 7's graveyard to the 6 in the champions' grave, the challengers saw their points almost halved (Bad Breed LP: 2900-5000; J7 LP:4400-2300). 'Now I can attack your monster.' Cephalopod dropped a traction beam over Nash's monster (Silent Angler Def.:800), destroying it. 'I end my turn.'
(Kieran hand: Superheavy Samurai Magnet, Superheavy Samurai Soulpeacemaker, Superheavy Samurai Blue Brawler)
Kieran: 'I'll draw, summoning Superheavy Samurai Magnet (Atk:900). With its effect, I'll summon Superheavy Samurai Blue Brawler (Def.:2000, Magnet Def.:1900). And I'll equip Blue Brawler with Superheavy Samurai Soulpeacemaker, which prevents you from attacking any monster apart from Brawler. And Magnet attracts attacks to it, so you can't attack anything. I end my turn.' With his defences fortified, Kieran looked to have regained stability for his team, as Freja took another turn.
(Freja hand: Herald of Ultimateness, Amorphactor Pain, the Imagination Dracoverlord, Terminal World)
Freja: 'I'll draw and activate Gamma in my grave tributing Herald of Ultimateness in my hand (Def.:0). Gamma's effect revives Alpha from my graveyard (Atk:2000). Alpha effect, I'll add Herald of Ultimateness. Then I'll activate Meteonis Drytron in the graveyard, dropping Alpha's
Attack by 1000 and adding it to my hand (Atk:2000-1000). Now I'll activate Meteonis, tributing Gamma and Alpha to summon Amorphactor Pain, the Imagination Dracoverlord (Atk:2950). And I'll add the Spell card Terminal World.'
This set up a particularly nasty lock, as Belle explained. 'When Amorphactor Pain is summoned, you have to skip your next Main Phase 1. And Terminal World locks you out of Main Phase 2. So you can't do anything during your turn apart from draw. And as long as you don't out our combo' Freja then finished with 'We can keep doing this every turn. We call this the Endless Hell Cycle.' 'It's only a matter of time until you lose.'
(Nash hand: Mystical Space Typhoon)
Nash: 'I draw. In my Draw phase, I activate Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Qliphort Scout.' As the typhoon ripped across the field, Nash was forced into his Battle phase, despite having nothing to attack with. 'I end my turn.'
(Belle hand: Re-Qliate)
Belle: 'I draw. Gamma, tribute Amorphactor Pain (Def.:0). Gamma effect, revive Alpha (Atk:2000). Meteonis effect, reduce Alpha (Atk:2000-1000). Meteonis, tribute Alpha and Gamma for Amorphactor Pain (Atk:2950). I end my turn.'
(Kieran hand: Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei)
Kieran: 'I'll draw.' Having no Main Phases, Kieran had no choice but to end his turn.
(Freja hand: Drytron Delta Altais)
Freja: 'I draw.' Annoyed, she decided to go beyond their previous efforts. 'I'll tribute Drytron Delta Altais from my hand for Drytron Gamma Eltanin (Def.:0). Gamma effect revives Alpha (Atk:2000). Alpha effect adds Cyber Angel Benten to my hand. Delta effect, tribute Amorphactor Pain (Def.:0). Delta effect, reveal Benten to draw a card. Which I'll use now - Drytron Nova, summoning Drytron Zeta Aldihibah (Atk:2000). Zeta effect, add Meteonis. Meteonis, tribute Zeta and Gamma to summon Amorphactor Pain (Atk:2950).'
'Zeta effect tribute Amorphactor Pain (Def.:0).' 'You're tributing it?' Freja's response showed her growth and the teaching she had received. 'It's already locked you, I don't need it out now. I'll overlay my three Level 1 Drytrons to build the overlay network, and Xyz summon. Take flight, Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale (Atk:600). Nightingale, attack!' The three materials her Nightingale had resulted in three attacks, striking the challengers hard (J7 LP:2300-500). 'I end my turn.'
(Nash hand: Buzzsaw Shark)
Nash: 'I draw. I end my turn.'
(Belle hand: Re-Qliate, Qlimate Change)
Belle: 'I draw, and I'll' Belle was swiftly interrupted by a hooter honking, as the 30 minute clock flashed up empty on the screens.
As the time limit expired, Freja immediately appealed for more time to the officials, only for the appeals to immediately be waved away, as the result was confirmed. 'The result of this duel is a time-limit draw. Still your LFD Doubles Champions: the Bad Breed.' While Freja continued to protest, Nash made it clear that he believed he and Kieran would still have won, leading to another face-off with Belle, before he brushed her off and left.
Backstage, the champions were still ruminating when Freja got a video call from Lydia. 'Just calling to tell you that you did super well there sis, I really thought you were going to clutch it out at the end. You've really improved, and I just want you to know, it's ok that you didn't quite get it, because next time I'm sure you will. And I'm just so proud of you.' Freja seemed far from appreciative though. 'Lydia, I know when you're talking down to me, so just quit it, alright? I'm not interested in your pettiness or controlling or whatever.'
This tense conversation was interrupted by Henrietta walking in and talking to them both. 'Champions, good effort out there. I understand your frustrations at not being able to finish the job, but I have some good news for you both - at LFD Euro Fest in Munich, there will be a rematch against your opponents from here, so you get another shot at completing your quest. Be warned though - if you fail to get the job done in your rematch, the titles will be stripped from you. Champions are expected to win.' She walked away, leaving Belle and Freja to assess the duel.
In the duelling zone
The Sledgehammer was out first for the main event, with Chazz and Nico by his side. 'The following is your main event - a Top Contender's duel for the WDC Championship. Introducing first, accompanied by Nico Smiley and Chazz Princeton, from Kabuchiko, Tokyo, Japan, this is The Sledgehammer.' Sledgehammer grunted on his way down, indignant at the thought of competition. Reaching the duelling zone after his imposing walk, he roared and lifted both arms, being applauded by the crowd as he did.
His opponent was then revealed to be Lukas, walking out with Tee, and nobody else from his group. 'Introducing his opponent, representing Junction 7, from Bishop and Clerk, Tasmania, Australia, Lukas Chipperfield.' As he walked down, his Black Rose Inc. cohort gave him a pep talk, which appeared to focus his mind. Reaching the zone, he immediately activated his duel disk, followed by Sledgehammer.
Top Contender's Duel for the WDC Championship: The Sledgehammer LP:8000 vs. Lukas Chipperfield LP:8000
(Sledgehammer hand: Cubic Dharma, Cubic Karma, Damage Alteration, Crimson Nova the Dark Cubic Lord, Cubic Rebirth)
Turn 1: Sledgehammer: 'The invincible Sledgehammer draws.' 'Invincible? We'll see about that' Lukas confidently stated, rousing cheers from the fans. 'The Sledgehammer will reveal Cubic Dharma, Cubic Karma, and Cubic Rebirth from his hand to summon Crimson Nova the Dark Cubic Lord (Atk:3000). Then he'll activate Cubic Dharma, and send Cubic Karma to the graveyard with it to draw a new card. He'll set all the remaining cards from his hand and end his turn. At the end of the turn, both competitors must pay the toll for Crimson Nova.' Crimson Nova released a harsh red light, dropping both players' points (Sledgehammer LP:8000-5000, Lukas LP:8000-5000).
(Lukas hand: Special Schedule, Night Express Knight, Machine Duplication, Hanewata, Train Connection, Heavy Freight Train Derricrane)
Lukas: 'I draw, and I'll summon Night Express Knight by dropping all its Attack (Atk:3000-0). Then because I did that, I can summon Heavy Freight Train Derricrane by halving its Attack (Atk:2800-1400). Now I can use Machine Duplication, targeting Night Express Knight for two more (Atk:3000x2). And I can overlay them both to summon my trusty Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Gustav Max (Atk:3000). And I'll overlay the other two and summon Number 81: Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Super Dora (Atk.:3200). Gustav Max, use your effect to turn an Xyz material into 2000 points of damage to the face!'
There was a response though, from a rather hyperactive Nico. 'The incredible Sledgehammer has an unbelievable response to your fierce play! He activates the Trap card Damage Alteration, which reduces all effect damage to nil.' The cannonball launched by Gustav Max was swiftly met with a flare of fire, blocking its path. But unpurturbed, Lukas made another big push. 'I'll rebuild the overlay network with Gustav Max. I Xyz summon Rank 11, Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Juggernaut Liebe (Atk:4000). With its effect, Liebe can detach a material to increase its Attack by 2000 (Atk:4000-6000). Now attack!'
'Sorry, but the unbeatable Sledgehammer activates Cubic Ascencion. This summons Vijam the Cubic Seed from his deck and redirects your attack to it (Def.:0). Now Vijam can't be destroyed in a battle. Afterwards, Vijam places itself in the Spell/Trap zone, and places a Cubic Counter on your monster, negating its effects (Atk:6000-4000). 'Well I can still destroy Crimson Nova with Super Dora.' Dora shot a harpoon from a cannon, which split Nova and put Lukas in the lead (Sledgehammer LP:5000-4800). 'I end my turn.'
(Sledgehammer hand: Pot of Greed)
Sledgehammer: 'The complete article of destruction, the Sledgehammer draws again. He'll use his Pot of Greed, dipping into it for two more cards. Then the effect of the Vijam the Cubic Seed in his Spell and Trap zone to summon itself (Atk:0). Afterwards, he removes Cubic Ascension from his graveyard to summon two more Vijams from his deck (Atk:0x2). With three Vijams on the field, they all get sent to the graveyard, so Sledgehammer can call upon Buster Gundil, the Cubic Behemoth (Atk:0). If summoned this way, Gundil gains 3000 Attack (Atk:0-3000).'
Lukas still didn't look concerned at this point, but the next move completely changed the game. 'Now he'll use Cubic Wave. This takes half of Liebe's Attack points. But where do they go, I hear you ask? Well they go straight to Buster Gundil! (Atk:3000-5000). And the special talent of Gundil is destruction, for it can attack thrice.' Gundil floated over Lukas' field imposingly, and dropped three bolts of fierce lightning, ending the contest in an instant (Lukas LP:5000-2000-200-0).
After the duel, a frustrated Lukas pounded the floor in frustration, before leaving. Meanwhile, Nico picked up a microphone. 'The unbeatable, unbelievable Sledgehammer is victorious once more, to the surprise of nobody. Everyone knew Chazz and Sledgehammer would both be successful, because after all, I only pick winners. And soon, Sledgehammer will have an even greater goal.' Sledgehammer then snatched the microphone from his manager. 'Phil… Champion of the WDC… LFD Euro-Fest… Munich… your title, my treasure!' This received decent cheers, as the show started to close down.
This wasn't the end of the show however, as just after the first fans started to leave, Junction 7 all walked out past Sledgehammer, with Reginald holding a microphone. 'Rio, your time's up, time to reveal it all to the world.' As soon as he finished talking, his sister's music hit, and Rio walked out, wearing a silver jacket and grey jogging trousers. They all seemed happy to see her, especially Reginald, but instead of embracing them, she asked for, and received, a microphone of her own.
'I'm not looking for a family, I have a family already. All this is because I want to know where my future lies, I need to know that I have the right support network around me, a network that can push me to the top and will be there for me in everything I push for, that allows me to be the best I can be, and allow me to succeed or fail on my own terms, by my own hand. Because I'm sick of just being the substitute, the junior, the weak link, the fucking joke? This is why we're here. You offered me something special. For everyone's attention, Reginald sent me a letter, and offered me the chance to not just join Junction 7, but to be the figurehead, to lead you all and to have whatever opportunity I want. Because you have the power to do that.'
Rio then removed her jacket to reveal a red vest, and as it dropped gently to the ground in a heap, the crowd roared, pleasing Nash. As she turned around though, he stopped, as he saw the word "Dynasty" tattooed on the top of her back in gothic writing. 'There was never any decision to make. I don't need politics to get to the top, I don't need the hype machine behind me, I don't need pushing to the forefront by everyone, and more to the point, I don't want to turn my back on my family. Because they are my family, and because they trust me. I've spent 20 years being "Reginald's sister", so now, I'm going to make it my way. Because I'm Rio Kastle, and I'm more than just your chaperone.' She then looked behind her, and stated 'Let the pack loose!', causing all the lights to go out.
When they came back up, all the club members were stood around Junction 7, with Rio stood in the middle of them. 'This is what a family really looks like. Maddy.' Maddy looked at Rio, and patted her on the back. 'You do the honours.' Rio raised her right hand, with everyone making the symbol with her, before they all charged in on an attack, with J7 responding, leading to a large and messy brawl, which ended with J7 retreating, clearly outnumbered and outmatched. Rio stood tall, as she was embraced by Freja and Belle.
