Null reappeared next to the bed he last slept in, which fortunately meant he was still in the village. As soon as he respawned, he screamed in frustration and punched the wall, which did nothing but hurt his hand. "What did I ever do to deserve this!?" He screamed at no one.
His mind flicked back to the many, many times he killed and tried to kill Notch, Herobrine, Heather, Steve, and Alex. He sneered at the very thought. "It's not my fault!" he continued screaming. "It was never my fault! It was THEM! ALL OF THEM! Notch tried to DESTROY me for just existing! Herobrine sealed me in that—that NIGHTMARE! The hacker changed me into THIS!" He was so angry at this point that he was spitting as he spoke. "All I ever did was try and kill the monsters that tried to kill me, but I'm the villain!? I get to sit here and suffer at the hands of this world while that egotistical CHILD of a god gets to walk away without any consequences!? AFTER ALL HE DID, BUT I'M THE MONSTER!?"
Something wet trailed down Null's cheek and he realized he was crying. He clenched his fists and tried to get control of his breathing. "I never deserved this," he whispered to himself. He was shaking with held-back sobs. "I never deserved this."
For the first time in a very long time, Null allowed himself to break down. He slumped on the bed and sobbed until he couldn't breathe.
…
Eventually, when Null had pulled himself back together, he dragged himself out of the house and reclaimed the stuff he had lost when he was attacked by the iron golem. It was patrolling nearby and scowled at him when it saw him, but he just scowled back. It wouldn't attack it again unless he provoked it.
Null looked down at his sword and contemplated attacking the golem. The construct only killed him because he wasn't prepared to fight when it attacked. Maybe this time, if he started the fight, he could win it.
Null shook his head and walked away. He didn't feel like losing again. He gathered up the rest of his items and retreated into his stolen house. A villager was just standing in the center of the room, so Null promptly kicked it out.
Null sat on the bed and rubbed his head. The gashes where the phantoms had clawed him were throbbing painfully, but at least they didn't seem to be bleeding anymore. Hopefully they will heal soon.
Null scowled at his surroundings. He was SO SICK of this! He was so tired of being powerless! Being human! For centuries, he never had to worry about injuries healing, or eating food, or mobs killing him! So many little things he had taken for granted had now been stripped from him, along with his very appearance! Nothing had been left alone by that hacker. The only thing that remained was his personality and his unrelenting desire for revenge.
Could Null even look at the changes made in his code? The thought distracted Null from his anger for a moment. The hacker had said that Null couldn't change anything anymore because it would be immediately reset, but he never said anything about just looking. It was worth a shot, anyway.
Null opened his inventory. It showed him the armor he had equipped and all the items he had stolen from the villagers. He pressed his hand against his inventory and closed his eyes, concentrating hard. He had done this a million times before, but it was no longer easy for him. He had to focus, but it worked. His inventory glitched and crumbled away, revealing the code behind it.
He grinned and started skimming through the new code. This was the first time he had felt positive in weeks, at least since his transformation. It wasn't the same anymore, though, and that was the hacker's fault. He used to be able to see every file in the game; every line of programming for every mob, block, and item. Now, the only file he could access was his own. A bitter reminder of his weakness. He no longer had total control of the game and that was beyond infuriating.
He huffed in aggravation and skimmed through his code. Almost everything had changed. If Null hadn't known better, he would have guessed that this wasn't even his. He saw several sections that matched parts of Steve's code, which were probably the parts that made him a pathetic player like them.
Null suddenly stopped, puzzling at what he saw. He hadn't noticed previously, but his file's name had been changed. Instead of "Null", his name had been changed to "Neo".
It took Null a moment to realize what this meant. He thought for a moment that he had access to someone else's file, but that didn't make sense. The hacker would have never given him access to someone else's file. Besides, as far as he knew there was no one named Neo. So that left only one possibility. One that made Null's blood boil in rage.
"So, stripping me of my powers and changing my appearance wasn't enough!?" Null roared, as if the hacker could hear him. "You had to change my name, too!? You couldn't destroy me, so you just did the next best thing! You tried to strip me of everything that made me who I am! WELL, GUESS WHAT!? YOU CAN NEVER CHANGE WHO I AM! NO MATTER WHAT POWER I WIEEILD, OR WHAT I LOOK LIKE, I WILL FOREVER BE NULL! AND I'LL STILL BE NULL WHEN I KILL YOU!"
Null's hands were shaking with anger and adrenaline. He had bit the inside of his mouth sometime during his rant and he could taste blood. The taste further fueled his deranged state as he grabbed the flint and steel out of his inventory.
He may not have access to commands anymore, but he still had the power of fire in his hands.
